Staff sprays off everyone's feet so they don't bring in beach debris. The swimming beach is so shallow. My boys walked for the longest time and even when they started to swim, they could still stand if they wanted. Warm, too. Not the softest sand, but the way out into the lake isn't too bad. The way back, it feels a little more prickly. Guess the rocks face away from the beach. Plenty of parking, seating and shade.

Tip: There's a path here which (upon closer examination) is actually an old street that's in a pretty far-gone state of disrepair. I visited in the winter to see the falls frozen over, and the park rangers had done an excellent job keeping the trail well maintained. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the waterfall, and there's very little elevation change along the way. North Rim trail entrance was close during winter due to ice and snow. But you can skip the dangerous part of the trail by parking at the Taughannock Falls overlook point and start hiking from there. Then you will reach the upper falls. Parking is only $10. lot is small so warmer weather probably will fill up pretty quickly.

I thought it was a fairly easy 1 mile hike out to the falls (though my coworker vehemently disagrees that 1 mile and easy belong in the same sentence - sorry Miss Sheila!), and there were some falcons swooping around. There is a fee to park, but were still spots remaining when we arrived. We should have received discounted parking with a Military ID, but the booth was unmanned that day, so we paid anyway. There is a restroom facility at the parking lot, and it wasn't bad. I actually think it was heated, so that was nice. I'd be interested in seeing the falls and hiking the upper trail when the weather is better!

Picnic benches, grills, benches, grassy areas, and lots of parking. Putt putt golf, pickleball, playground, free military museum, and clean restrooms with showers. Wineries all around and some breweries too. South is Watkins glen and north is Geneva. Lots of options for things to do. Highly recommend visiting this beautiful park.

Sampson State Park set on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake. Today, roughly 2,000 acres of open space for mobile campers, tenters, and even fixed cabins for rent. Family friendly throughout the grounds. Boat launch, lakeside beach, play grounds, snack shop, game room, outdoor movie theatre and a Camp Store for replenishing camping needs and the ever popular S'mores refills. On-site, many former military roads and infrastructure during WWII Naval base, and Korean War Air Force base, including a Military Museum on-site built in the 1960's. We enjoyed a day walking and driving around the grounds and a good old fashioned picnic along the shore. Later an ice cream at one of the snack shops.

In the middle of this historic town is a mile long "sculpture trail" along the canal. It's short…read moreenough to be a nice walk. There are benches along the wya, and of course, sculptures. It was opened in 1999. It starts at the base of a bridge, on the aptly named Bridge Street. It walks along the Seneca-Cayuga Canal. It's named after Frank J Ludovico - who donated the land it is on. The statutes are mostly by female artists and are inspired by the women's movement, which started here in Seneca Falls. It's a great active activity with tons of history along the way.

Parking could be better, but even on hot sunny days, we can usually find a free spot. There is a playground, a big gazebo right on the water, covered picnic tables, swinging benches, docks, a small "beach" area, and a gorgeous view all the way up and down the walking path! It's a fabulous place for a picnic! And the FOOD possibilities are endless! You are barely minutes away from fast food, ice cream, and hidden gem restaurants. Highly recommend!

The area is a little slippery with the rocks and you have to be careful to not turn an ankle. Not handicapped accessible to the falls aside from the view at the rim. Deep overhang helps keep it cool but also have to watch falling rock eventually.
