I think the GPS led us to the residential area parking and there's no parking there for the public so my boyfriend left me there and I thought he meant that I should just go there myself and there is NO signal here so I had no idea where he was at for over an hour and he was so close to calling the city to report a lost child lol. We went in the mid morning and it's a fairly bright, well lit path there that's not too far or difficult and there were lots of other hikers and travelers so at no point did I feel like something bad was going to happen. The farm is also true to its name because I did get to see a momma deer and her baby right at the entrance of the farm near the barn picnic table area. Neat! It's a great place to see animals too since aside from the deer and farm animals I saw a quail and its chicks, as well as lots of ground squirrels. The chicken are in a coop and pen but some hop out and walk around the farm. Love to see the pigs, sheep, goats, cow, bunnies, ducks and geese too. Would love to one day see the farm cats. There's lots of informative signs and flyers throughout the farm of all reading levels and how much information are on them, and there's small interactive parts too and you learn about the work that goes into working on a farm and what these animals provide for people. The docents and volunteers are also very helpful and are happy to answer questions. Lots of benches and seats in the shade too so you can sit back and take in the scenery and the animals hanging out. You can see the little gardens that they have there and I guess on some days some of the other buildings are open too. I don't mind coming back, but this time, I won't make that same entrance mistake again. read more

Such a cute little place Especially if you have little ones! Fair warning, it is a little of a walk from the parking lot (if you can get parking). The walk is about 20-25 minutes but it's worth it! The farm is FREE of charge, & they have quite a few variety of animals & sights to see. They close at 4PM, so make sure you go fairly earlier. Visited on a Saturday afternoon at around 2pm. We were able to snatch the last parking spot at one of the lots, as there were many families and friends who were at Rancho San Antonio soaking in some sun. It can be a bit confusing where to go from the parking lot -- find the map in the middle by the restroom or follow the wooden signs with arrows to guide you. The walk from the parking lot to the zoo is about a mile. The trail is flat and solid, not muddy. The farm had a large variety of animals from ducks to cows to sheep and goats. Since they are livestock, no touching or feeding but they were adorable to look at from afar. Beware of the one mile distance + no petting if you're looking for an interactive farm with no walking -- but I'd recommend the hike + farm if you're looking for a low impact stroll and to soak in the sun! read more

This is a great place to get outdoors with the whole family! Free and plentiful parking. One mile walk to the farm through gorgeous trees and mostly flat trails. The farm had two cows, two hairy pigs, lots of ducks, geese, chickens, goats, and sheep. I also appreciated the farmhouse hand washing station and restrooms. If you have little ones, I recommend the stroller even if it gets a little muddy from trail. The larger open space preserve is great for hikes, cycling, and even saw some dudes with their toy drones. Had this farm on my list of bookmarks for a while now. Checked it out for the first time and sadly wasn't impressed. This is not a very interactive farm and maybe it would be enjoyable for little kids to see animals through a barrier. These animals are so far away and don't hang anywhere near the fence where the people are. You cannot feed, touch or even get close the animals here. The distance from the parking lot to the entrance is a mile long or more depending on where you park. I came on a Sunday and the trails were full of families walking so slowly together or solo joggers speeding by super fast. I left a one star review because they should really consider creating a more hands-on experience for visitors, especially since the farm itself is not accessible by vehicle and you have to really put in the steps to get there! Don't go here if you are looking for a farm experience. Pay less $ and go to the Hidden Farm in Los Altos or Ardenwood Farm in Fremont or pay $0 and go to Tilden Farm in Berkeley where you can actually PET the animals. Oh yeah, parking is limited. There are not enough parking spaces for the volume of people who enter this park. You might be circling in the lots until you find a space. read more

This is a cute little farm inside Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve (stretching from Cupertino to the Los Altos Hills). There are several adorable animals to see, including ducks, chickens, goats, and pigs. My fave, during my visit this past Saturday, were the darling little lambs just prancing around and eating grass around their mama sheep. I only saw one cat and no bunnies (though there were signs indicating that these animals exist on the farm, perhaps seasonally or during certain special events/days). There's also a large wooden hay barn at the farm, occasionally used as a classroom, and the tables are listed as first-come first-served seating for the public, nice shady spot to enjoy lunch if you bring a picnic. This is a cool educational farm, family friendly, and just a nice peaceful spot for individuals or couples to enjoy the surrounding nature. Hopefully, you're in shape and/or prepared to walk, it's at least a mile one-way from the parking lot area (we saw a lot of deer up close during that walk). There are about six small parking lots adjacent to each other, they were pretty full on a Saturday afternoon, but if you're patient, you'll find someone leaving and can snag a spot. Also, conveniently, there's a public restroom in the parking lot area, as well as a restroom past the farm. Deer Hollow Farm isn't exactly quick and easy to access, but it's free to visit and a nice opportunity to slow down and appreciate the landscape of this beautiful park. read more

Pretty sad for a farm, but the kids (3 and 6) were pleased enough...It takes a mile to walk to the farm. Not only are the animals far from the gates, but we had to double-check to make sure one of the pigs was not dead. Tucked inside Rancho San Antonio County Park is this gem! Volunteers run and care for the farm animals. There are many chickens (fresh eggs for sale $8/dozen, cash only), ducks, geese, 2 pigs, 2 cows, multiple sheep and goats. Great spot for families and adults alike. About 1 mile walk, mostly shaded, from Parking lot 6. Parking lot fills up fast. Get there early (before 9am) or else have to wait for someone to leave. What a gem tucked away in the Rancho Antonio Open Space Preserve! We arrived on a Saturday morning after 9am and before 10am. I am not sure if the place is usually this packed. We were visiting from out of town. Almost all of the parking lots were full. We ended up having to park at the carpool lot, the first lot as you enter, which made the trek to this farm even further. There wasn't much guidance from the park rangers. It seemed like they just sat around looking at the sky and not paying attention to cars coming in and out. I highly recommend bringing good walking shoes. If bringing little ones, definitely a sturdy stroller that can handle mixed terrain. If your kiddo rides their bike, the paths are kid-friendly. Not much hills-wise. We realized that the bike versus pedestrian paths are not strictly adhered to, which was a plus for us since we didn't have our sturdiest stroller with us. This first parking lot has flushing toilets, stocked with toilet paper and soap. The toilets near the farm are your typical park non-flushing toilet. It was stocked with toilet paper and antibacterial soap. We arrived to the farm and saw the cutest little baby goats (also called kids). We were invited to pet the baby goats and my toddlers shied away from that. We also saw chickens, roosters, rabbits, cows, pigs, and goats (oh my!) behind fences. So fun to introduce our toddlers to real farm animals! The property is well maintained and the animals appear happy and healthy. A cute farm to bring your little ones to and to get some physical movement in. read more

We went for their spring tour. The parking was ridiculous. I almost gave up to go back home but miraculously found a spot. It was fun but I was a bit stressed out because my toddler refused to go to the bathroom there because he was scared of it. Their bathroom was the one on the trail. I wasn't expecting this so we had to rush and go back so he could use the bathroom by the parking lot. The lines were long but I'm sure we would have stayed and had more fun if I wasn't stressing about the bathroom situation. We got to pet a chicken and bunnies. Be warned, in order to get here you're going to have to deal with some of the most crazy parking for a park in the entire state of California. You might have to fight someone! Also, you will have to walk about a mile to get here. So, the big question is the trek worth it? Yes, and no. You get to see some cool animals, but you can't actually feed them or touch them. Still, it's a very popular spot for the kids so there is that. I'm not sure I'll quickly coming here again, but it's still pretty nice overall. Plus, it's free. That's always a bonus. read more

Ummmmm. After looking for activities for my Granddaughter, I noticed Deer Hollow Farm with four stars. Immediately added that to my list of must do's. Well we went today. It was a beautiful day. We found our way to the park. Parked our car and started to walk. I guess I had not read the reviews well enough because I did not realize it was a 1 mile walk. Good thing we did bring the stroller based on the recommendation of a previous reviewer. It was quite hot and dusty. The warning signs along the way made me a bit apprehensive. Watch out for cougars, bees, ticks and, forest fires. Ha ha I had no idea. After about 25 minutes we got to Deer Hollow Farm. Along the way we saw several chipmunks and wild turkeys. Upon arriving at the farm which seemed abandoned, we did happen to see pigs, chickens, goats, and sheep. We were not allowed to touch or feed any of the animals. The restroom facilities were questionable. One porta potty looked like a giant refrigerator and had a sign "This toilet is closed to the public. The public toilet is near the big brown hay barn". Ummm that was in the other side of the farm. I guess it was a good adventure and it was Free. Would I do it again? Probably not. read more

I'll have to come back here another time with my husband because when it was just me and two kids, they couldn't make it all the way. We literally walked for 10 minutes and they got tired and it was such a hassle to try to walk back to my car with two crying toddlers. There's multiple parking areas but go all the way down to the end of the hill and park there! It's closest one to the trail next to the large bathrooms. The area was really nice. I never knew this place existed. Lots of greenery. There's also signage on the way to the farm such as there are mountain lions. My son enjoyed it until he got grumpy. Located in the Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve (RSA), DHF is like walking back through time. This is a swell place to take the young 'uns on a nature adventure, and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. However, before you go you'll need some key details that I've provided--just for you! Parking- The best access point is the RSA parking lot off of Cristo Rey Dr. It's a very busy, but nice sized lot that holds ±230 cars and has a restroom. I didn't have an issue finding a space, but that was on a weekday. I'd imagine weekends are much different, so get here early. Ingress- DHF is approximately one mile from the parking lot. To get there you take Permanente Creek Trail north, and then hook a left (west) onto Lower Meadow Trail; both trails are stroller and bike friendly. I didn't see any signage pointing to the farm until I got about a half-mile in. So, if you're not sure, don't be afraid to ask one of the many trail regulars. Admission- The farm is free and open to the general public. If you want, you can make a donation through the website, or choose them as your charitable donation through the Amazon Smile program; just go to smile.amazon.com, and enter "Friends of Deer Hollow Farm." Amenities- DHF has an open-air hay barn for picnicking, on-site restroom and water fountains. Features: -Century-old, restored buildings on display -They have your typical menagerie of cows, chickens, pigs, goats, etc that the kids love to see. We were lucky enough to witness a milking demonstration of Luna the Cow! -Demonstration garden and fruit orchard. Apparently they will sell some of their fruit, but don't come in January and expect fresh strawberries. -Hands-on Nature Center, that's only open on the 3rd Saturday of the month. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to see it, but I'll be sure it's open next time I visit. Depending on how fast you walk, you can make the whole excursion in as little as a few hours, or one can easily spend the entire day navigating the copious amount of surrounding RSA trails. Either way, DHF is a terrific family-friendly getaway and is highly recommended, by yours truly. read more

Really enjoyed seeing this lovely farm and the animals. It was educational for my toddler, and it was a nice family outing for everyone. There is a one mile trail to the farm, but it is an easy walk and mostly paved. I pushed my daughter in the stroller, and she enjoyed the trip. Hi-ya! The trail and weather were perfect combination to visit this farm today. When we first got there they were milking a cow and that was an interesting experience you don't often see. The animals, cleanliness, clear signs and layout of the place made it great for an enjoyable midway point to a hike. It's a farm and funny to judge a farm, but it was more a chill destination to take a packed lunch as there is a eating area with picnic tables under a shaded area to relax at. The trail to Deer Hollow Farm was fine for my 4 1/2 year old but I did need a stroller for my 19 month old. It wasn't too bad of a walk though, some of the trail was even paved. The farm itself was ok, there were goats, pigs, chickens, cows and bunnies but the kids weren't able to really interact with them, just look. There wasn't anyone there to really greet or talk to you about the farm, there was a nature camp there at the time and all of the employees were dedicated to helping and talking to just them. There was an area to sit and eat which was nice but I wasn't overall thrilled with the farm. My girls did enjoy themselves though. read more

I believe there are more animals you can see, but the farm was unfortunately closed when I went :( Tip: drones aren't apparently allowed here- you may be given a $300 ticket if you get caught. I LOVE coming to Deer Hollow Farm and seeing the cute goats, cows, chickens (my personal fave), pigs, ducks, and sheep. The animals always seem loved and well taken care of. The farm cat is also super friendly and will come over to you and let you pet her if she's in the mood. Generally, though you aren't allowed to go into the pens and pet the animals, (for safety reason, I imagine). They have volunteer docents and guides on some days to answer questions about the farm/animals. One time I even saw them milking the cow. I never get tired of stopping by to say hello to the farm animals. In fact, I don't even bother coming to hike Rancho unless the farm is open for me to make a pit stop! P.S. On a nice day the paths leading to the farm are crowded with cyclists, runners and parents pushing strollers. If you're lucky, on the way up you'll spot lots of deer and other wild life. The farm itself is a working farm offering several educational programs. My kids have enjoyed watching baby goats frolick in their pen, looked in on baby pigs, fed a cow and watched the chickens run around. This place also has one of the most amazing vegetable gardens I have ever seen as well as some of the most beautiful scenery in the valley. Word of advice -- staying on the paths will keep you out of the poison oak! read more

So yes, walked to this farm with my 3yo, took us a good 45min and he was so excited! He got even more excited when he saw all the kids petting goats and sheeps but oooops not my 3yo since he wasn't part of a school class. Yes they cold heartedly denied my toddler access while 20 other kids were allowed in. I don't even know where to begin with this, I mean he's 3! This is our family's go-to place when we are feeling cabin fever. Toddlers: Our 4-year old has no problem making the walk to the farm and back. He never tires or the adventure along the way. Especially when he and his 11-year old brother play along the creek. The farm animals are always a hit. Pre/Teens: Whenever the pre-teen or teen joins us, we take their friends along and they are always happy to walk in front or behind us. We were looking for a hike that was kid-friendly and do-able for our 7 year old (who whines a lot and doesn't enjoy hikes) but since we were walking to a farm, this made it enjoyable for everyone. We took our son here for a tour over the weekend. The farm is a mile long trek away from the lower parking lot. The trek is stroller friendly and a well defined path with signs leads straight to the farm. Be sure to watch out for wildlife during the trek; we had a rattlesnake cross our path!!! The entrance fee was pretty reasonable- $5 per head and the farm was not too crowded. Our son had a wonderful time petting the baby animals- the baby goats, especially, were very tolerant of human contact. The farm is not very big but one can easily spend a good hour to an hour and a half here. They have a cow, sheep, chickens, ducks, rabbits, pigs and goats. The docents are wonderful, patient and knowledgeable. They also have a well grown vegetable patch at the end of the farm. At times, they also sell fresh eggs on the farm! We wound up our trip by having fresh coffee-berry cake, coffee and lemonade served just outside the garden. What a treat!! Be sure to stop at the cute little nature museum at the entrance to the farm which is a treasure trove of taxidermy. We saw a stuffed :mountain lion, coyote, raccoon,rabbit, owl as well as a number of preserved snakes and snake skin. The collection of birds' nests is also worth looking at - I was amazed to see that a hummingbird's nest could be so tiny. Rancho San Antonio has a number of challenging trails, but if you have little ones and still want to trek , then the two mile round trek to the farm and back is definitely worth your while. Be sure not to forget the following before you start : stroller, sunscreen, hats, plenty of water and maybe a snack or two. No restroom stops along the way, though I think the farm has a restroom. Caveat: Parking at the park is limited. Be prepared to come a little early to get a spot! read more

omg, this place is the cutest farm! i've run the trails at rancho san antonio many times and typically run past this farm on my way up, but i don't ever take the time to stop and say hello to the animals. the other day, i was hiking with a friend along the wildcat loop trail and we stopped by here on the way back to the parking lot. we saw chickens, roosters, bunnies, sheep and cows. lots of kids and their parents were also there, admiring these animals, watching them eat, sleep, and play. other reviews indicate that you are allowed to enter some of the pens to touch the animals, but this was not so on the day we visited. we had to stand outside the fence to see the animals and could not touch them. hopefully i'll have the opportunity to return on a day when petting is allowed. admission to the farm is free, but hours are limited to 0800-1600 on tuesday, thursday - sunday, and 0800-1300 on wednesday. note that they are closed on mondays. check the website for their most up to date hours and visitor information: http://deerhollowfarmfriends.org/plan-your-visit/ parking is available at the main rancho san antonio county lot, which is about a one mile walk from the farm. read more

Cute farm! The kids and I did the one mile hike to the farm. It was an easy, flat walk/hike. Once there, we were immediately greeted by the two huge cows looking at us from the wire fence. There were plenty of animals for the youngsters to gawk at. We saw pigs, sheep, goats, chicken, ducks. My favorite were the many baby goats. We weren't allowed to go into the barn, but you can peak through the barn doors to see the baby goats eating and talking away. We were lucky to be there during feeding time. This made our visit that much more exciting. This is a place I recommend if you have kids that like farm animals. It's low key, free, and easily accessible.
