Maybe the weather had something to do with it (it was HOT). We accidentally set up in the wrong site - it was a BIG site but was very open and kind of felt like sitting in the middle of your driveway having a fire. (Site 21). The bathrooms/showers were not notch and very clean, seems to be a fairly new building. I had expected the well water to be very iron-y considering the location, but the water was great! The lake is beautiful, the beach was wonderful to cool off in.

Rachel and Travis really are the owners that care about making this a place that people love to visit and return again and again. During the years we have stayed here, there have been many regulars that have not returned and I know one problem has been with the previous owner. Now is the time to give it another try and I am sure you will be more than happy with the "New Spider Shores". We have just returned from our recent stay and I have to admit that this has been probably the best stay in a long time. Even all the little improvements have not gone unnoticed. One important thing Travis told me that I feel tells a lot about the direction of the resort. He said "it is only going to get better" and I think that says it all. For us, we like the setting and the lake itself and it just adds so much having owners like Rachel and Travis. We wish them a ton of success in this new adventure!

But when my boyfriend's fam books Clear Lake Resort for their fishing/hunting/very Minnesotan excursions, I am relieved and tag along. We recently stayed in Deer Cabin. It has three bedrooms, 4 beds, a damn-near-full kitchen, full bathroom (stand-up shower), living room area with electric fireplace, satellite TV, a deck with charcoal grill, and fire pit. And the kicker, it was $85/night! It sleeps 6-7 comfortably so that could be ~$15/pp/night! Resort amenities include a main lodge w foosball, pool table, board games, wifi and TV. There's a fish cleaning house, basketball hoop, volleyball, and several hiking/ snowmobiling trails too. And since it's right on Clear Lake, you can bring non-motorized activities, and they might even have some for rent. The owners live on the property and their family is so kind and accommodating. And we love their dogs! (They will be playful w you outside but never enter the cabins). Not everything is top-of-the-line and updated, but it's the perfect place for outdoors-lovers for the right price, location, and hospitality.

The photos on the website do not lie and we were very happy with our cabin. *The water has a sulfur-like smell to it, but this is the case for most of the area and the resort has better smelling water than some other places in the area.

First off the location and the lake itself is beautiful! You truly feel at peace with nature while you are out there. The owners are incredibly nice and friendly people. The cabins are very clean, cozy, and have the basic essentials. However you'll find yourself spending much more time outdoors enjoying the lake. No boat? No problem! When available they do have a few pontoon boats for rent. As far as the lake itself goes. There's a large variety of species in it so fishing is a lot of fun! The quality of the fish are also remarkable up here. Some of my most memorable catches came from my stays here. There are different sized cabins to accommodate various sizes of families and we were able to rent four cabins all in a row. The resort is very family and kid friendly - plenty of activities for littles with a playground, beach area, pontoons for rent, fishing stuff, etc. The cabins are comfortable but still feel like you're in the woods and the porch area is definitely the best part of the space - coffee on the porch looking at the lake was just awesome! Lake views, fire pits, picnic tables - all make it feel very up-northy. There is a little lodge down by the beach area where too can buy a limited assortment of snacks as well as toiletries that may have been left at home. They have pizzas, arcade games, and free popcorn and coffee too. Wifi was super strong throughout the resort! A few minor things that I didn't love: - The beach area is pretty weedy which contributed to swimmers itch for a few of us but the kids didn't seem to mind. - There isn't really anywhere to walk for exercise, just the dirt roads but no paths or anything. Flies were terrible when I tried to walk anywhere! - Porch furniture wasn't super comfortable and we spent so much time there that it would be great if those chairs could be upgraded! - The tap water tastes and smells irony. We chose to bring bottled water to drink just because of the taste. One of the best parts was taking the pontoon out to what we called 'secret beach' which was a really nice sort of sand bar that was a short ride away from the resort. A true mom and pop place! If you are looking for something that's a bit rustic but still comfortable, this is a good choice. Nothing fancy but that's the way it's supposed to be!

Normally I'm not into mozzarella sticks, but something about these really did it for me. Got the chocolate cheesecake for dessert and it was so yummy. All the rest of my family also really enjoyed their food (and there was a huge variety of orders). Spent a lot of time playing darts and pool. Love when a place has activities.
