I am going to make this review as accurate as I can…read more Scheduled for Tammy to be my hygienist due to some good reviews; I'm very particular about who touches my teeth, so I do extensive research before booking an appointment. Came to the office to find they booked me with the wrong hygienist, which is no big deal, mistakes happen (I knew she wasn't the correct hygienist because I saw her photo on the website as I was reading the bios of the dentists, and scrolling down to the hygienists section, so I had somewhat of a mental image already of who to expect for both my dentist and hygienist). As I was heading out, I spoke with the front-end staff who do the scheduling and let them know that I was scheduled with the wrong person. They informed me that there were in fact two Tammy's, one is Tammy Marie and another is Tammi. I immediately went on the website to search for the name Tammy Marie, and the name didn't exist, her name was simply 'Tammy', so there was no way I would have known that differentiation between Tammy and Tammi, but for some reason they were pushing back at me as though I should have known her real name is Tammy Marie almost as if I had made the mistake. Throughout this conversation, I remained calm and respectful despite this pushback. I never raised my voice. Suddenly, a dental assistant named Hannah came out of nowhere to the front desk area and became actively involved in the conversation with a clear attitude in which I asked her why the attitude whilst I was trying to relay to the front end staff that it would have been helpful if the hygienists names could had been clarified during the scheduling phone call to prevent this. Hannah's level of involvement was oddly strange tbh, but I wasn't trying to get sucked into that either. So I moved to request to speak to the dentist, hoping this simple confusion would be smoothed out and we could move on positively. When I spoke to the dentist, Dr. Brynn Van Dyke, I didn't feel that she had tried to make things right, nothing about her gave good intentions or any sense of care. You know that type of care where you feel when a person genuinely cares about you. I think (and this is my speculation) that Hannah may have falsely gassed her up against me prior to speaking to me as I felt Dr. Brynn Van Dyke came already negatively biased. Actually, when the hygienist, Tammi, later came to the front desk area, my immediate reaction was to assure her that none of this was personal. I told her, "This has nothing to do with you and I don't want you to feel any type of way. I specifically thought I had booked another hygienist based on reviews I had read." It was important to me that I reassure her that because I was sensitive to her feelings as well to make sure she wasn't slighted...that is the type of genuine care for another person that I didn't feel from Dr. Brynn Van Dyke. To summarize: This was a minor scheduling misunderstanding that could have been resolved with a single sentence from any of the staff: "We're sorry for the confusion. Let's get you back on schedule with your preferred providers." I understand things don't always go as planned, and I'm okay with that, but what matters most is not the issues that occur, but how the staff respond to make things right. That's what shows the character of an establishment and team. Being a doctor myself, I personally deal with challenging situations and patients, but I always remain focused on the patient and the quality of care they receive so as to provide positive outcomes and experiences. This practice checked all of the boxes. They are very professional and kind. No pressure, no telling you that you need more than what you're asking for, they let you make your decisions and provide transparency with pricing. They don't send you automated spam texts for years after visiting and they treat people fairly. I'm very happy with Dr. Tenney's level of expertise and service-minded support. The office staff, dental assistants, neat & clean office and RESULTS are what has made their reputation so great. I actually had fun we laughed the entire time they worked on my teeth. And no I didn't have laughing gas. Dr. Schuerman has to be the coolest hippest most caring dentist I have ever met. She took her time, she explained what she was doing, she checked to see how I was doing. She gave me three shots and not one of them hurt. She was very professional. I went with a different place at first because it was closer to where we were living. Well, that turned out to be a mistake. I ended up having a bad experience there and finally switched to S&L. Dr. Ngo and his team fixed everything the other dentist had messed up. Right away I knew my wife had been right all along. I've been going to S&L for four years now and they really are the best dental office I've ever been to. Dr. Ngo has removed all my old metal fillings and replaced them with modern ones, plus he's done a couple of crowns for me. Everything looks and feels great. My wife has also been extremely happy with all the work he's done for her too. I'm almost 55 and I've seen a bunch of top-rated, highly recommended dentists over the years, both here in the US and a couple in Mexico. Nothing else comes close. One thing I have to mention is how good Dr. Ngo is with people who hate dental visits or get nervous about pain. His work is excellent, but it's the way he takes care of you that makes the biggest difference. For example, the way he does Novocaine shots is unbelievable. You barely feel it at all. Every dentist out there should learn his technique. With all that said, I do think the front office experience could be better. If the customer service up front matched Dr. David's clearly caring vibe, it would be 100% perfect. ONE STAR -- GET A SECOND OPINION BEFORE AGREEING TO ANY MAJOR DENTAL WORK HERE…read more I had been a patient at Desert Smiles Dentistry and went in on August 4, 2026 for nothing more than a routine six-month cleaning and X-rays. I left being told that I needed crowns or veneers on my four front teeth because, according to the dentist, I had been "cracking my teeth good" I was shocked. I had Invisalign three years ago, religiously wear my retainers, have always taken excellent care of my teeth, and have never had any significant issues with my front teeth. I've even done teeth modeling because of the appearance of my smile. The dentist pointed out visible lines on my front teeth and specifically told me these were new and that he had never seen them at my previous six-month visit. He then had his front office provide me with a quote for FOUR crowns. I was also told that if I decided to move forward with his proposed treatment plan, I could receive a discount because, ironically, the practice was having "Crown Week" at the end of August. He even told me that another dentist would probably try to convince me to crown my entire upper mouth. Thankfully, I did not agree to anything and immediately sought a second opinion. I was evaluated by another dentist today, and the difference in professional opinion was astounding. She explained that what I had been shown were craze lines -- common lines that naturally develop in teeth over time, similar to wrinkles as we age. She explained that the lines were internal rather than external, told me my teeth were essentially in excellent condition, and said she would not recommend doing anything to them at this time. She further explained that perhaps decades from now, as I reach my 60s or 70s and normal wear progresses, veneers might become an appropriate cosmetic option. She specifically did not recommend crowns on my healthy front teeth now. What makes this even more concerning is that during my 12-year-old daughter's previous routine cleaning at Desert Smiles, we were also told that she needed an expander. She has since been evaluated and treated by an orthodontist and got braces this summer. An expander was never recommended as part of her orthodontic treatment... Recommending four crowns on someone's front teeth is not a minor suggestion. Crowns require permanently altering natural tooth structure. Had I simply trusted this recommendation without questioning it, I could have undergone significant, irreversible dental work that another dentist believes is completely unnecessary. The fact that I was presented with a four-crown treatment plan, given a quote by the front office, and then informed about a "Crown Week" discount only added to my discomfort with the entire experience. Based on my family's experiences, I have completely lost confidence in this practice. I strongly encourage anyone who receives a recommendation here for expensive or invasive dental treatment to get an independent second opinion before agreeing to anything. We will absolutely not be returning to Desert Smiles Dentistry.

Thought I just got something stuck in my cap. Nope I had a fracture in the root. So har to have my tooth pulled. This was part of a bridge so she had to cut the bridge and pull the molar.
