I would not ever go back to get my firearms worked on in this shop. I took a rifle there and wanted a fixed sight put on my tactical bolt action rifle. He said he could do it, drilled the hole then gave the rifle back explaining that he couldn't finish the job? Well he just drilled a hole in my rifle, why the heck didn't he figure out it couldn't be done BEFORE drilling? read more

A few people on here complained about ammo prices but ammo is more of a convenience item at Deer Creek. If you want cheap ammo go to Walmart or buy online. The people at Deer Creek are gunsmiths who can fix what other gunsmiths cannot. They are also awesome at cosmetic repairs. I bought a Colt 1911 for a cheap price but the previous owner scratched it up badly, somehow leaving deep gouges. I brought it in there and they made the gun look brand new for what I felt was a very fair price (re-applied blasted and brushed finish back on every surface of the gun pretty much). It looks brand new. It looks so good I don't even want to shoot it anymore because I'm afraid I'll put a scratch in it. During recent session at an indoor range, my handgun decided to give up the ghost and subsequently died. I was referred to a supposedly outstanding gunsmith located some 40 one way miles from my home. After two failed attempts by the expert gunsmith and 160 miles later, I decided to bring the handgun to Deer Creek Gunshop.I could not have made a wiser decision. I took an older pistol into the shop that I knew didn't fire, but had no clue as to why. This pistol is my mother's and isn't valuable at all, so I didn't want to put much money into it. I dropped it off and let the employee know that I wanted to be contacted before any work was done on the gun. After two weeks of not hearing from the business, I called to see the status of the gun. They told me they were swamped and it might take another week before they even look at it. It was Christmas time so I understand volume and time and wasn't that upset at that point; however, I got a call the very next day telling me the gun was finished. When I arrived, I told the worker that I had asked and was assured that I would get a quote before any work was done, which led me to ask for the price. After I was told that it was going to be almost half the price of the gun, I began to get irritated. I asked what prompted the price ($45 to "fix" the firing pin - I have no clue if it is a suitable price) and was told it was labor related. I told the worker I wasn't comfortable with the price and work should not have been done. The worker didn't look concerned, shrugged his shoulders, and then proceeded to answer the phone while I was still talking. After a few minutes on the phone, the worker came back and asked what I wanted to do. I told him I wasn't paying his price, so he took the gun to the back and "shaved" off the repair to the firing pin. Looking back, I was naive to go to such a small gun shop. I had no clue what this place was like before coming, but it's obviously a place with a stereotype customer. I should have known after it took two weeks to finally get time to work on the gun something was wrong. After getting a call the very next day saying it was done without any warning of the price, I definitely knew something wasn't going to be right. Also, $45 for something that only took 5 minutes to "reverse" seems more and more unreasonable. Lastly, when the worker shrugged to me, it gave me the impression that he didn't care that they were in the wrong and didn't try to offer up any kind of solution to the problem. When he promptly walked to the back of the shop with the gun and quickly undid the work they had done, I got a question from another customer, who seemed as shocked as I was. It's very unbelievable that the worker, who I think may be the owner, would do this in front of potential customers. Take my advice and stay away from this place!!! read more

Wow. These guys just ripped me off. I approached them with a small job, to move a rear sight post on a beretta 90-two auto pistol. It was clearly to the right of center, as we both agreed when I dropped the pistol off. We agreed that this was not an exact science, and centering the sight was the best starting point as the gun shoots off in the direction of the sight. Well, I left it there overnight, and when I went to pick it up, the sight was even farther off in the other direction. I politely brought this up, and the guy got mad. He said he was sure it was correctly centered. I firmly but politely said I am not happy, please move it back some to the right. Regardless of how he felt, he should have moved it to please the customer. Instead, he bickered about it, and then fed me some crap about having to disassemble the gun (C'mon 20 seconds max for that pistol) and that I would have to leave it and come back the next day. At that point I realized they weren't in a position to provide customer service. The guy in the back supposed to be working was just sitting there, and continued to do so the entire time I was there. In summary, I spent $20 and two hours of driving to get back a pistol in worse shape than when I took it to these guys. Don't waste your time or money, find the proper tools and do it yourself.
