Many locals picnic here, exercise and you can take multiple trails down to the lakefront from here -- including a staircase and wooden ramps that you can ride your bike on. During the main season, there are people posted at the entranceways to make sure you either have a Lake Forest sticker or pay an entrance fee. Yes yes. Complain if you want about the fee but that means you aren't a resident. The city spent considerable money on upgrading the waterfront and then experienced major trainloads of people coming to the town just for the beach. It just got too expensive for the ongoing maintenance and clean up. Why should residents pay? That said, the beachfront is wonderful. The beach is clean and has well-marked areas for swimming. There is a great playground for kids. Lots of picnic tables. And lots of park benches for those who don't want to frolic in the sand. There is also a boat launch and storage area, volleyball nets and a covered picnic area you can reserve for parties. Two things that could improve -- The restroom facilities aren't fancy but do the trick. And the little food store down there is very limited. So plan on bringing food of your own.

Maybe others will feel differently, but I actually like the…read moreconstruction of this beach considerably more than most beaches on the North Shore - you walk down to the beach and it's not a trek across the sand, the water is right there. It's more a long strip of beach than the usual square of sand that you see on most beaches. Decent amount of parking. While there are usually three ways in and out of the beach, unfortunately, the only current one as of this review is the drive. Otherwise, there's a steep staircase that is usually used by exercisers (and I don't blame them, you definitely feel it) and a beautiful woodsy ramp/walk-up further down the beach. The work that they are doing in the upper park area will hopefully done soon - I'm guessing it may have taken as long as it has in part due to the harsh Winter. The upper park part is very pretty, but there's not a whole lot to it. As another reviewer noted, it would be a lovely picnic spot. As of this review, they are doing considerable work on the park area and it's not open - hopefully they will get it done soon as it would be nice to get the two walkways down to the beach back open. You do have to be a resident to pay taxes, which is the same as many beaches in the North Shore. While not optimal, it's a really pretty walk from downtown Lake Forest if you want to take a peek at the beach area.

Winnetka Public Library has helped me discover and locate historical records that have been immensely important for my Illinois genealogical and historical research and writing work. There is lots of natural light and plenty of nice cozy areas to read together. It does get loud during busier times. Also the bathrooms are nice and clean. If they don't want to post a squad to show that they care about the safety of the citizens that pay their salaries it would be nice if they would actually come to a complete stop and obey the rules of the road. It's tough enough to teach your kid to drive but then when they call out the police in our town that sucks! It also doesn't teach them to respect authority! I would also suggest that some brush up on some laws. It is okay to not know everything but when a situation presents itself to learn something and get educated to show you care about what you signed up to do, you should probably take it! I'm no Spring chicken but my day doesn't feel complete until I learn something new! A commander who raises his voice and talks over you and has no idea what the definitions of some words are is absolutely irresponsible, irritating and disgraceful!! That is your job sir! When things get heated you are supposed to calm the situation!! I always am a respectful, kind and empathetic person. If you think I will not continue to express my extreme disappointment, perhaps you should get to know me better!! All I can think is... if my husband called can I believe he would speak to him in the same tone? Would he tell him he was wrong and would he talk over him? Not sure, that wasn't the case but my gut tells me he would have spoke more like an adult who protects this community!!! So, after speaking to 2 Commanders I feel let down. I did miss a couple phone calls but I have no voicemails. I am not an officer so I also don't know everything but I'm wondering when an investigation consists of listening to me and showing clear forgery and identity theft documents I have secured and then just taking the time to call the person who is an insurance agent and just get his side of the story with no proof and say that there is not an issue!! I hope that I am wrong about others that do care and take the time to assist and protect this community. I am sure they are there, when your commander reacts and handles things in a certain way it really makes someone worry about what is important to the Deerfield Police Department? Sitting in the Church and library parking lots ? Not sure, just my observations over the last 3 years‍
