We haven't come across a vegan juice bar like this in these parts of Puerto Rico. Hell, we haven't come across a juice bar period. It was a total surprise. At home, we're used to drinking fresh-pressed juices I make, especially early in the morning. My body's practically used to it. But while traveling, finding something that fits that rhythm is usually tough. Then we found 18° and honestly, it felt heaven-sent. This spot almost looks like a tiki bar meets a surf shack: laid-back, breezy, with tropical wood accents and pops of color that say beachside vibes. Service is great and the menu is a dream: smoothie selections that go from tropical blends to hearty, protein-packed options and cold-pressed juices and these almond (or peanut butter) protein balls that my husband and I grabbed were just what we needed to power up before heading into El Yunque National Forest, not far from here. After all the mallorcas and breakfast sandwiches we have been eating on our trip, we were craving something healthy and refreshing before heading to El Yunque. I got their açaí bowl and my husband got their mango smoothie bowl. Both were made fresh on the spot and were SO DELICIOUS. It's an outdoor area with large fans and nice art murals around the walls. While this establishment is vegan, there are food truck options right next to this place. Everything is made to order, and ordering was a breeze. We got the purple haze, tropical sunset, and banana strawberry twist. Honestly, I wanted to try all the other 7 smoothie options because they sounded so good. Base is coconut milk, almond milk, or orange juice. Almost all options have banana in it, and many have interesting items like bee pollen, chia seeds, and hemp seeds. Finally, the environmental consciousness of this place feels nice too. First of all, EXCELLENT wheelchair access-- the best we've seen on the island-- and second of all, incredible empanaditas that still have us talking, days later. We were in Puerto Rico for our honeymoon, stayed at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar and stayed there four days. We struggled to find good vegetarian food and breakfast food and this place was GREAT! It became our go to for lunch and breakfast. They had smoothies, acai bowls, and veggie burgers. We had the veggie burger for lunch and it came with chips and love it! Good enough portion. I ordered the tropical sunset smoothie however when it came, it came in juice form. I thought it was still good so didn't say anything. Five minutes later, the waiter came to give us an apology and the smoothie I ordered for free. Also, had an acai bowl for breakfast another day, and also was great, good size! Hummus arrived in abundance with a side of delicious tortilla chips and carrots. I was not expecting homemade hummus, but what a pleasant surprise. The warmth from the hummus was a clear indicator that it was just whipped up in the vitamix. The pacha (passion fruit) smoothie was ridiculously good. This smoothie is also made with pineapple and banana but the taste of the passion fruit really shines through. Loved it! I will be stopping by again and again when I am on the island.
