Best hidden coffee shop and co-working space in proper San Juan! It's like a cocktail lounge but for coffee. They experimented with different flavors and condiments for the coffee. The building was a church so it has high ceilings and airy. I love that they didn't need to blast the air conditioning but I felt cool inside. Music wasn't loud either so you could be having a meeting with no problem. The soup of the day was always delicious and came as a surprise. We went there on two different days and were always impressed with the soups. Great quesadillas as well. Service was fast as you ordered and paid with your phone. I felt like I need to gate-keep this place. Great coffee shop!

Items ordered: Iced cappuccino, pumpkin pancakes, banana loaf (to-go) Service: Very quick, kind staff Value: Prices are a little high for the area but very worth it The Review: Walking into La Isla was an experience all on its own. The historic charm hits upon entering the door. The airy main room is quite notable. It is also a coworking space, so members are present, working and having meetings. The food was excellent, with gluten free and vegan options galore. You don't often have the option of an iced cappuccino, which was SO good. Cannot say enough kind things about La Isla. Despite being a bit boujee, La Isla and its customers are actually very local rather than touristy. Highly recommend.

I wish I took more photos to capture how awesome this place was. One of my top vegan experiences in San Juan, if not my #1 favorite spot. It's technically a vegetarian restaurant, but the great majority of items are vegan. We ate at La Isla twice in one week, it was so good. My favorite item was the chickpea scramble. I was expecting some kind of "just egg" type situation made with chickpea flour. But it's even better: a scramble made with whole chickpeas with the most flavorful seasoning. Basically a chickpea curry shaped into a little brick and covered with incredible green cilantro sauce and pumpkin cream sauce. So innovative, healthy, and delicious. On our first visit, we got the chickpea scramble as part of the vegan Isla brunch sampler, which comes with avocado, toast, and a choice of French toast or pancakes. All delicious. When we returned, I asked the waiter if it was possible to get just a plate of the chickpea scramble, because I liked it so much. You basically have to get it as part of either the brunch sampler or on top of avocado toast, which is what we got on our second visit. Delicious. Their soup of the day (made with white beans and malanga) was also excellent. The lunch special, a beet burger, was incredible. Their drinks also deserve special mention. They have an incredible lineup of smoothies. The best one is a bright pink one made with beets (not always available). The chupacabra (made with espresso) and the papaya cinnamon one are also great. The "cold chocolate" (exactly what it sounds like) was also excellent. The ginger shots were great too. The ambience is great too - a huge sun-filled space with an open kitchen and an adjoining eco-friendly shop. They hold yoga classes in the restaurant a few evenings a week, to give you an idea of how relaxing and pleasant the space is.

This spot is down the street from Calle Cerra and love the ambiance. I can stay there for a few minutes to eat, and their store is attached for some healthy grains to take home.

Served to your table with a menu of a huge variety! The food is super affordable i would say cheap even like a few bucks with the option to pay for small extras for like a buck! Very optional menu. Its nice and busy but quickly served and you can order online. They have seperate areas for laptop work too if you bring one with you.

I love how simplistic the decor is in this restaurant and the cute shop within it. The menu has plenty of delicious choices for various dietary needs/preferences. The latte I ordered was perfect as was the guava mallorca and veggie scrambled breakfast. I will definitely be back soon!

Guava butter toast was amazing! The vibe was warm and comfortable, just perfect, and our waitress Santana was perfect too - super hospitable. The chickpea dish was delicious too. Clean, and YUMMY food. I'll be going back here before I leave for NY.

So fun to eat delicious food in a cool traditional room. Coffee menu to die for (melted honey with espresso!?). Daily lunch specials. We loved the yogurt made from coconut.

We sat down for dinner at 7:45 and did not receive our drinks until 8:20, even though we put in our order as soon as we sat down... and asked politely how much longer until our drinks would come out... twice. Food did not come out for an hour and half, it was cold by the time we got it. Mac and cheese is not great cold. The ribs are extremely overcooked and like eating beef jerky. Drinks were okay, but by the time we got them everyone's cocktails were watered down, as well as the soft drinks. The ambiance was not great either since everyone around us was visibly frustrated by the wait times and lack of service, a table across flagged the waitress multiple times to ask where their stuff was. The food was decent, but again, cold. The wait times were no joke. We wrapped up our 7:45 dinner around 10, simply because of how long it took to be served. Our waitress came to our table maybe 3 times total, we would have to stand and find her to figure out where our food/drinks were. They were also out of a good majority of items on the menu when we tried to order them. Overall I unfortunately don't recommend! Price, service, and food are not great.

We arrived with no wait, but by the time we were eating, there was already a long line outside. Also, if you're in a hurry, this may not be the best choice. Everything is made fresh from scratch, so the food does take a while to come out. Service is definitely on island time, but once the food arrives, you'll understand why--it's well worth the wait. I ordered the California Surfer wrap, and wow...it was absolutely amazing! Everyone in our group raved about their meals, and the fresh-squeezed orange juice was out of this world. I'm honestly sad we only made it here once during our week in Puerto Rico. I would absolutely come back again and highly recommend Pinky's to anyone looking for a fresh, delicious breakfast. Everything we ordered was very good, and on an extremely hot day, I was especially appreciative of how well the A/C was keeping up. I was actually a little cold--and I'm never cold. It felt so nice after getting overheated right before we got there. One thing I noticed while wandering around Old San Juan is that some restaurants likely survive on location and foot traffic alone, while others earn people seeking them out. Semilla definitely felt like the latter. It's tucked just around the corner from some of the busiest pedestrian areas, so it felt like we escaped the crowds for a little while without actually going very far. Overall, I'd happily come back. If you're staying nearby and looking for a good meal without being surrounded by the busiest tourist crowds, Semilla is well worth checking out.

This is global techniques blended with locally sourced Puerto Rican ingredients. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcome. I was there to celebrate my birthday (a reservation is a must). I asked if I could be seated in a different section of the restaurant, and even though they were packed, they said absolutely and found me a lovely seat in the bar area. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive. I suffer from severe food allergies but wanted to experience their tasting menu. My server spoke to the chef directly and then took the time to walk me through every option. I TRULY appreciated that they did not take anything off the menu but rather told me how they could adjust for my allergies. That is very rare and so very much appreciated that they went that extra mile for me. I highly recommend the tasting menu. It's 5 courses and they give you 3 options to choose from, within each course. And for the price ($85), a great value. Everything was delicious but I highly recommend the Breadfruit Gnocchi, Rainbow Runner Crudo, and Criollo Duck Mofongo. Chefs kiss! What I also noticed was, even though they were insanely busy, they didn't make you feel rushed. The invited you to savor the experience - which I did. Everything else was very well done. The two of us split one order of the five-course tasting menu plus an additional starter, and it ended up being a nice light meal. Had we each ordered our own tasting menu, it would have been far more food than we wanted...something we found to be a fairly common theme with portion sizes throughout Puerto Rico. The standout of the evening was the Criollo Duck Mofongo, which was absolutely exquisite and easily the best mofongo we had on our trip by far. The cocktails were tasty and unique, but a bit small for the price. This definitely isn't an every-night kind of restaurant...the prices are on the higher side. The café had a modern, inviting atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. I asked if one of the frozen drinks could be split for the kids, and although they didn't split it for us, they happily gave us two extra cups so we could divide it ourselves. I've bought them at the grocery store for my mother over the years when I couldn't find Menier. I was hoping to see some unique desserts at Chocobar Cortés. Let's just say that the chocobar at this location was not what I was expecting. It's like an express version of their original one in Old San Juan. This is located in the lobby of the Condado Palm Hotel. There are 2 entrances. Don't make the same mistake we did by trying to access at street level. That door is locked. You'll need to enter through the hotel lobby. The service is very slow here. There was only one other person there. We ordered a box of 6 chocolates and payed for it. I'm guessing he was making a drink for the other guest because he asked us to wait a few minutes. It ended up being longer so he told his colleague (who just came back from a break) to make up the chocolate box for us. Unfortunately, it took even longer as this other guy was more interested in the 2 young girls who just walked in. The chocolate bonbons were good, but nothing unique. It's the same artisan chocolates that you see everywhere for the same high price. Perhaps this location is better for their specialty cocktails in the evening time. I was looking forward to trying the choco-latte at some point. I doubt there will be a next time.
