12/29/25; I hate leaving bad reviews. But it's important information. The business can't address issues if they don't know where they've fallen short. I also feel compelled to review because we went to this restaurant on the strength of the 4.8 star rating. However, our experience was more in line with the 1-2 star reviews. Building is an old church, we found. I suspected that because of the stained glass around and the layout of dining room. It can get pretty loud in the dining room. At some point early in the service I felt I needed my earplugs. So, I put them in. You order via QR code on the table from your phone. Then.....the...wait....begins. We're seated at 11:18am. Order in around 11:30am. We finally got drinks at 12:09pm (39min). Drinks were really good, had the Ginger Turmeric Shot, Chia Latte, Cappuccino & Passion Fruit Juice. We thought that was a sign of more good things to come. Food arrived at 12:41. 30min later. Now, after waiting for 1hr9min, if the food comes out and it's bangin', all is forgiven and the drop in service is just a small blip in the experience. However... The Food: Chai Pancakes Pumpkin Pancakes Veggie Scrambled Eggs The EGGS were good. But nothing I couldn't do easily in my own kitchen. The Chai pancakes were the worst pancakes I've ever had. Far too much spices added and dry, dry, dry! I had one bite. One. Pushed it off. My wife had the Pumpkin Pancakes. She only had a few bites. "Have some of mine." I tried them. Weird flavor and gummy. She then said "Yeah, I didn't like them, either." Pushed the plate away. Funny that they make you PAY and TIP at the beginning of the meal. So, no matter how good or bad your experience is, they get their money. And this terrible experience cost us $68.00. $68 for breakfast!! Most of which didn't get eaten. There's no incentive for them to improve. And because of that...we will not be back. So the drinks, good. Eggs, good. Everything else WTF?? Oh, I almost forgot, you get your own water from their water station. A filtered water dispenser machine. Which seemed okay at the time. This place is amazing. Found it on Happy Cow app, was walking distance from our hotel. Cool architecture inside and out, love the concept, menu was good but wish they had a few more vegan entrees. I had a golden latte which was delicious and the chai pancakes. My husband ordered scrambled eggs and my son had breakfast tacos. Portions were huge. We tried to order from a QR code but our credit card kept declining so we had to go up to the counter to order. They said the the clover app often doesn't work. Loved the decor in here. This restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. There's a beautiful sage green aesthetic, community art you can buy, and it's across from what appears to be a town square. But that's about all I can say before I start to get upset. You have to ring a doorbell to get in, which is super annoying to hear constant buzzing when you're trying to eat. There are community tables where anyone can sit, which is just not personally my thing. You have to get your own water and it is not automatically served to you (water is a MUST in the Puerto Rico heat). The menu is a QR code that keeps scrolling back up when I don't want it to. The smoothies we ordered - Chocolate Devotion, Pa'Pa'Passion, and Par-ch-aiso - are all very bland. Pumpkin pancakes were kind of dry. I did not try anything else as I had already had breakfast earlier and nothing sounded very appetizing. Best hidden coffee shop and co-working space in proper San Juan! It's like a cocktail lounge but for coffee. They experimented with different flavors and condiments for the coffee. The building was a church so it has high ceilings and airy. I love that they didn't need to blast the air conditioning but I felt cool inside. Music wasn't loud either so you could be having a meeting with no problem. The soup of the day was always delicious and came as a surprise. We went there on two different days and were always impressed with the soups. Great quesadillas as well. Service was fast as you ordered and paid with your phone. I wish I took more photos to capture how awesome this place was. One of my top vegan experiences in San Juan, if not my #1 favorite spot. It's technically a vegetarian restaurant, but the great majority of items are vegan. We ate at La Isla twice in one week, it was so good. My favorite item was the chickpea scramble. I was expecting some kind of "just egg" type situation made with chickpea flour. But it's even better: a scramble made with whole chickpeas with the most flavorful seasoning. Basically a chickpea curry shaped into a little brick and covered with incredible green cilantro sauce and pumpkin cream sauce. So innovative, healthy, and delicious. On our first visit, we got the chickpea scramble as part of the vegan Isla brunch sampler, which comes with avocado, toast, and a choice of French toast or pancakes. All delicious. When we returned, I asked the waiter if it was possible to get just a plate of the chickpea scramble, because I liked it so much. You basically have to get it as part of either the brunch sampler or on top of avocado toast, which is what we got on our second visit. Delicious. Their soup of the day (made with white beans and malanga) was also excellent. The lunch special, a beet burger, was incredible. Their drinks also deserve special mention. They have an incredible lineup of smoothies. The best one is a bright pink one made with beets (not always available). The chupacabra (made with espresso) and the papaya cinnamon one are also great. The "cold chocolate" (exactly what it sounds like) was also excellent. The ginger shots were great too. The ambience is great too - a huge sun-filled space with an open kitchen and an adjoining eco-friendly shop. They hold yoga classes in the restaurant a few evenings a week, to give you an idea of how relaxing and pleasant the space is. read more

Don't let the building fool you. When I first saw it, I thought it was saying hair salon, or a church. It was a restaurant. Got good reviews I figure I check it out since my Airbnb was walking distance. Beautiful space atmosphere was very tranquil and very airy with a airplane size fan.The staff were very friendly, and it's vegetarian mostly and organic menu , which I'm a huge fan. But they fell short and I'll explain. We sat and waited about 25minutes for our breakfast. First you scan QR code for menu and you order , tip and pay . That was fine an and all. After a while I was getting ansié as 6 people in the kitchen and no food yet . Any way I digress. When the food comes out the food was cold and small portions after paying $42 dollars with tip included which doesn't make sense . Not a happy customer LAISLA you can do better. read more

I found this wonderful gem in the hidden streets of San Juan! The food is phenomenal, nothing like fresh everything to make the meal stand out! The owners use the best local sources for their selection and you can taste it. We had a party of 3 and we all enjoyed our different selections. It's a pity I didn't take a picture. I begin with the positive aspects of the experience: La Isla has a spacious nice cool setting which is greatly appreciated during the summer months. If you are a person who loves animals, you will be pleased to see that they are accepted without problems. However, La Isla does not offer the waiter service that many of us are used to. To order it is necessary to scan a barcode with your cell phone, through which you order and pay. If you have problems placing the order there is no one to help you, since as I said, there is no waiter service. Fortunately one of my friends came to the rescue and placed the order for me. Orders are delivered to the table in the order in which they are ready, so what happened is that some people at the same table receive their food while others have to wait for their turn to be served (even though everyone at our table placed the orders at the same time). The employees come to the table to bring the dishes and drinks when they are ready. Some arrived quite quickly while others took much longer. At some point, I guess when the kitchen is short of plates, cutlery and glasses, someone comes to collect them. You serve the water yourself from a tank designed for this purpose. At one point one of my friends wanted to order something and when she tried to do so, the app told her that at the moment the kitchen was not taking any more orders !! The place was not full to capacity, so it seems to me that they work with the minimum staff or are very disorganized. The dishes taste good, but in my opinion they are very simple and the portions are small and not worth the price they charge for them. But the most surprising thing is that they have the "audacity" to suggest a tip of at least 10% for a table service that they do not offer!! It was my first experience in La Isla and although it was not unpleasant, it was not memorable either, so I do not think I will repeat my visit. read more

It looked beautiful, and the atmosphere was amazing. The staff was amazingly friendly, especially our helper Paula. She helped us through the entire. By far the best restaurant experience, all the staff was bilingual. The food was amazing - I had the vegan French toast, and it was to die for... one of my friends had the pumpkin pancakes and she loved it, my other friend had the avocado scramble and she really enjoyed it. The little store where you could get natural snacks, nuts, and seasonings was definitely a plus plus. Would definitely come back!! Enjoyed every minute. read more

This place thrives on sustainability. I'm a tourist, learning Spanish, and walked in and immediately went the store (unsure of where to go.) Because I was already there, I decided to take a look around. Shampoo and conditioner bars, reusable and sustainable women's products, self serve grains, pastas, and trail mixes. I was really impressed with their little space. The clerk spoke Spanish, and I did too, apologizing that I was just learning and she gave me a compliment. She was full of smiles and sunshine. After I purchased some chocolate trail mix, I headed over to order, and was greeted with a genuine warm persona. I asked questions about the menu, showed pictures I found online, and everyone was really kind and working hard. There's a self serve water dispenser, and they don't use plastic to go cups which I find out of the norm and really noble. Haven't gotten my food yet, but I do know this place is worth a 5 star review regardless. read more
