The road is fully paved to the beach because there are homes at the beach end of it. At one time the road appears to have gone even further but an older gentleman on the beach when I was there said the sea has washed away that extra piece of road, during storm surges. He mentioned that this beach is his favorite for fishing, although I saw people fishing at every bay beach except Cooks Beach. People fish the bay all year. The views of the coast are great at this location, and there is a nice chunk of beach to spend some quality hours hanging out. Kimbles and Cooks Beach are my top Middle Township bay beaches to visit! Definitely worth a trip! Like all of the small Middle Township bay beaches, this feels very remote and private. As with its neighbor beaches, you need to drive out through a stretch of marsh to get to it. There are homes on solid ground at the mouth of the road (by 47), and also as you get out at the beach, but the stretch in between is marshland. Marsh makes for great wildlife but also many bugs, so prep for that in warm months.

If you're looking for a more relaxed and less crowded Cape May experience, I definitely recommend adding Higbee Beach to your itinerary. Would I come back? Absolutely. Side note: HIGBEE BEACH is Hidden behind wooded dunes and far from the crowds, Higbee Beach is a wild, untouched stretch along the Delaware Bay. No lifeguards, no boardwalk, no badge required-just nature, birdwatching, and calm waters perfect for quiet mornings. Pro tip: bring water shoes.

Douglass Sr. Memorial Rotary Park is located right next to the Cape…read moreMay Lewes Ferry and is a quiet beach front with peaceful views of the Cape May Canal and Delaware Bay. It was named after Lower Township Police Officer David C. Douglass, Sr. who was killed in the line of duty and the spot serves as a memorial to his legacy. Dogs are fully allowed on the beach from the day after Labor Day through the day before Memorial Day. They can also go on the beach in-season from 4pm-11am (overnight). It is unclear if dogs have to be leashed, so use caution. Watch the ferry and find some relaxation here.

A small beach within a short distance from the parking lot, calm water, a jetty for my husband to fish off of, and lots of shells and treasure to be found. On our most recent trip we came on Labor Day weekend- which I won't do again- it was mobbed with people- which is not my thing. I get anxiety being in crowds- so the boardwalk was a bit of a mess and panic for me. When we came to the bay- it was something totally different. Way less people- still the same amount of fun. Soft sand, easy to make sand castles with my daughter. Seagulls to feed endless popcorn too. Just a time to take in some cool breeze from the waves and enjoy the sounds that come along with it. The bay is the way to go for someone like me who isn't much of a crowd person. My daughter seemed to enjoy it also.
