He thoughtfully adjusts what's necessary and works through the muscle tension surrounding problem areas, providing real relief. After just one treatment, I'm extremely pleased with the results. I don't require regular maintenance, but I do experience occasional flare-ups. Sorry in advance... this will be a long one. I really can't say enough great things about Dr. Paul. He is the best and his entire goal is to make sure you only need to see him once or twice a year, if that. I have been going to a chiropractor to relieve chronic neck and back pain for years - since I was in my 20s and it always consisted of 3 appointments a week for 5/10 min with those electromagnetic pads... you know the routine. With Dr. Paul, he spends 30 min or an hour on you depending on how much time he needs, and he works on you from head to toe. I used to have chronic neck and shoulder pain but I have not experienced that type of pain since seeing him. If I do have pain, I may see him once a year. he also pads his appts with 15 minutes of time in between just for free touch ups! I have sent every client, friend and family member to him. He is a miracle worker and I would gladly pay out of pocket for that kind of care, even with insurance. It's worth EVERY CENT- although you can absolutely submit to your insurance for reimbursement! My husband was on of the biggest skeptics when I first told him about Dr Paul. It took at least one or two years before he actually went bc I paid for the appt in advance. But after just one visit, he became Dr. Paul's biggest fan. I also brought a good friend who was dealing with chronic hip pain for at least a year or two after a fall. She was scared to go but after nagging her for a couple years, she finally went and Dr. Paul fixed her in one visit. Granted she is still scared to go to any chiropractor but I am sure if she felt bad, he would be the first person she thinks of. I feel we are so lucky to be in Alexandria and have access to him, but I know people travel in from all over to see him bc he really is the best. I can go on and on but I think you get the hint. I've been going to Paul for over three years now, after he was recommended to me by my boyfriend and it turned out to be one of the best recommendations I've ever received. A couple of years ago, I started experiencing sudden dizziness. I was scared and had no idea what was happening. I went to Paul right away, and he fixed the issue almost immediately. That visit was truly one of the best decisions I've ever made because I've never had those symptoms again. I also make sure to see Paul before every international flight I take -- and again right after I return -- because he helps me so much with pain, tension, and overall alignment. Those visits make a huge difference in how I feel during and after long trips. On top of being incredibly skilled, Paul has such a great personality. Went for an hour long of chiropractic and massage. It was easy to book an appointment online and I needed it quick and so badly as I woke up with a neck pain where I couldn't turn my head or bend my neck up or down. Paul is a nice guy and was able to place my neck back in its place to reduce the pain. I was able to turn my neck to right fully without restriction or pain first time in maybe fifteen years! Amazing and I do go to my chiropractor regularly but I just moved and had to find a new chiropractor. I didn't have time to visit a chiropractor for 4 months and it was overdue! I'd say it was an excellent choice and he was referred from my old chiropractor. The office is on third floor by stairs above the Greener Cleaner shop. It's nice and cozy place. My sister and B-I-L visited Dr. Caffey and couldn't stop raving about how he fixed their (multiple long-standing) body problems. I took this with a grain of salt at first, purely because both of them are sometimes super uber hippies. So, when I mentioned it to my ailing aunt in passing and she went and couldn't stop telling me how great Dr. Caffey was, I just had to see for myself. And now I can't stop telling you how amazing Dr. Caffey is. He's one part quirky, one part super methodical and scientific. He's talkative, energetic, and has lots of stories to tell of people he's "fixed". I did in fact put Dr. Caffey to the test, just to see if he was the real deal; when I got there, he asked me what I was there for, and I told him my back hurts (no more specific than that). He adjusted my back yes, and did tell me my mid-back (surprisingly) was the cause of alot of my back pain, but he also found some areas I did not expect, like between my skull and vertabrae, one of my knees, etc. He would say things like: "do you ever do this [position]?" or "you must have had an old injury because your [blah blah scientific terms] does not move that way." He's not your typical chiropractor, expecting you to come every week for x weeks, etc., and I like that...also because he is quite a bit of a drive from where I am. Totally worth every penny guys. You won't be disappointed. ps - Expect to be in some pain that day and/or the day following. Note 1- The office is no modern place you would expect, but its a place of healing nonetheless. Note 2- The place is upstairs. There is a Small door to the right of the yoga studio and you go upstairs to their practice. Note 3- I can never get anyone on the phone. Even though I have insurance I choose to go out of network with Dr. Caffrey - he's that good. I've been to many chiropractors over the years but Dr. Caffrey does the best adjustments and thoroughly examines and re-examines his work. He listens. What I like most is his knowledge of both bones and soft tissue. He often does some key massage work to relax muscles that he knows will hinder his ability to get the necessary adjustment. He is a talker and for some that a turnoff. For me, I don't care. It can be a helpful distraction if you get a little nervous about adjustments. He's kind, caring, and really really good. He prides himself on trying to get you well so that you don't need to come back to him. Can't say that about many chiropractors business models. read more

Agree with the other reviewers: best chiropractor I've ever been to. But there are downsides so significant I went to a few sessions and just don't have the fortitude to go back. First and most importantly, he does not approve of seeing any other type of provider traditional medicine (Western) or Eastern. Or any other chiropractor. If you so much as mention another provider you'll never hear the end of how bad they are and how much he disapproves of you seeing them. Nonstop. Every appointment. Always. It merits re-emphasizing. Do not ever mention the following to Dr. Paul: other chiropractors, physical therapists, doctors, surgeons, any tests or any procedures of any kind that you have had. Especially. Not. Cortisone. Injections. He does not like *any* of these people/things and if you mention any of them he will be on a continuous loop nonstop talking about them, criticizing them, criticizing you for going to them. I cannot emphasize enough not mentioning cortisone injections. I strongly suggest that if you choose to go to him, pretend you are the first provider of any kind you have ever seen. Ever. In your life. For anything, not just for your back/neck etcetera issues. Don't mention so much as a general practitioner, dentist, gynecologist, or even pediatrician when you were a child. Ive been going to chiropractors for 25 years so i know what is out there. I only wish i had met Dr. Caffrey sooner. I went to him with chronic neck pain and lower back pain and had immediate results. Over time he has completely transformed my body. He is the only person I trust to touch my neck and he has been able to get it to adjust when it will barely move. He doesn't give up until he gets it...if it means he has to massage my neck for 20 minutes he will do it. I live in DC so it's a bit of a schlep to Alexandria and I don't care. Honestly if i had to drive an hour and a half to see him I would. Unlike other chiropractors, Dr. Caffrey doesn't try to sell you vitamins or supplements or hook you up to a 'stim' machine or whatever they call it. He just spends time with you and adjusts your whole body including parts you didn't even know could be adjusted! He actually doesn't want to see you again! He wants to fix you the first time. Whenever i come back he feels guilty!! He doesn't rush you in and out or make you come three times a week. He spends LOTS OF TIME with you, often going over the alotted amount of time, but also somehow never running late. I've been seeing him for years and have never waited for him to finish another appointment in order to take me. I simply can't recommend him enough. Dr. Paul Caffrey is amazing and should have awards all around his office! He is too humble! I went in scared to even be touched since I had excruciating pain from ribs being offset/subloxed/disjointed/out of whack! I couldn't work for 10 days because of the pain. I couldn't tie my shoe, button my jeans, hold a plate.... nothing. I was crying in pain and scared to be "adjusted". Paul made me feel comfortable, immediately. The way he talked to me took my mind off my pain and being fearful. I relaxed and trusted him to fix me. He did fix me! I was in there for 30 minutes and came out knowing something just happened and for the best! I was sore for the next day from the work and adjustment (nothing like the pain I had been dealing with prior to the treatment). The day after, today, I am back to work and 100% better! As a massage therapist since 1996, I appreciate Paul's approach of warming up the muscles first! He "listens" with his hands before doing the adjustments. His massage techniques are above par and unique to his field. He wants to help you then and there and not over and over again, like most chiropractors. I came to Paul after an aching back (probably from horrible posture). I was extremely nervous & tense as I'd never been to a chiropractor & scared of injuring myself further. Well, Paul was very reassuring & really knew his joints & how the body worked. He cracked & popped & put those joints back in place (according to him!). although my back was residually sore for 2 days afterwards, it felt restored following those 2 days. I think he was unprofessional speaking poorly about all other chiropractor and any existent doctors for an entire duration of my appointment.
