But I won't tell you what makes this better than others. I'm not that qualified. But the bottom line is this. As I ate it, I felt like I was eating something special made with love. I had the best experience during a very difficult time. I hired Delaney's to cater my mother's Celebration of Life event. Traci & Team were friendly, thorough and professional. The team prepared my son & I plates to taste each of the items I ordered. When I arrived several days later for my event, the food was packed up & ready to go. They helped load the food in the car. Love supporting local businesses, and I stopped in here on a random Sunday afternoon. The staff was welcoming and had smiles on their faces so I rate the customer service a 100%. The quality of the food however, was not my favorite. My friend and I both ordered pretty much the same thing and agreed that the fish wasn't it's freshest, the collards were dry and the macaroni salad was made with rigatoni noodles and not macaroni but wasn't bad so I'll just say it was poorly advertised. I would be willing to give this place another shot because the staff won me over, but I'd keep improving the recipes and wait time because 45 minutes is a long time for fried fish and pre-made sides. The most important thing you want to know about Delaney's soul food restaurant is, they have the items that they advertise. So often you when go into a soul food restaurant and you just have a taste for macaroni and cheese you get, 'oh I just ran out'. But you just opened an hour ago I'm not understanding how you are out of what you advertise within the first hour. With that being said when I order macaroni and cheese from this restaurant it sometimes have a day old taste but at least they have it. I rarely cook pork chops at home so I always order them out when I'm at a soul food restaurant. Delaney's platters contain 2 Large Center cut pork chops to sides and bread. All of their meals are such a deal, you get the right amount of food for your money. They are kind of slow but is worth it when you were getting pan fried pork chops or freshly fried chicken to order. I've had their collard greens, cabbage, potato salad macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, fried fish and fried pork chops. no weird or unfamiliar flavors here. I visited Delaney's while home for two weeks. It's a black owned "mom and pop" take-out establishment right at the bottom of the bridge. I knew they were bona-fide when I saw the old frying pans and stock pots. I had the three chicken wings and two pieces of whiting platter. It was delicious. Both were fried perfectly, without the thick breading some places use, and the fish was meaty. I now live in AZ where this type of cooking is sparce, so I'm quite appreciative to have had my soul food palette satisfied. You should give them a taste. read more

I usually don't drive this way unless I'm visiting family in Overbrook, so for me it was a nice ride around town for a good meal. Supporting a local in such a small community goes a long way. This is a hidden gem, and if you didn't know your way around there you'd miss it. It's located at the corner, but as you go up a bridge (overpass). Again, take a look around! The parking is okay and it's easier to take the side streets to get out. I don't want to say they offer a discount for cash but they register uses a system that imposes a 4% tax on the orders. The staff were kind. I order 2 combo fish & chicken platters w/ 2 sides (macaroni & cheese & cabbage/collard greens). In addition to that I ordered 1 fish sandwich and salmon macaroni salad. We all enjoyed the whiting fish. The size was good and it was fried nicely. My daughter liked her greens. Now what I did not like and do not recommend is: 1. The cabbage was sweet. Why? I put hot sauce on it to try to cover up the sweetness. 2. The macaroni and cheese was not baked it tasted and looked to be from the box variety. I couldn't eat mine. Plus the pasta used for it was huge and not the normal elbow pasta normally used in baked macaroni and cheese. The night was busy so I understand if the store ran out of the proper baked macaroni and cheese and told me that and offered me the chance to order a different side but I wasn't. I will try again without ordering sides. 3. Salmon macaroni salad: Tasted good, but maybe too much sweet relish because it tasted sweet overall. The fish was great.
