Tried crafty soul today for the first time. I ordered thru Uber Eats had the whiting fish platter and the chicken wing platter. The fish was a little salty, chicken was bland, definitely tasted like the oil may needed to be changed. As for the sides, the greens were good, Mac n cheese was cheesy and better looking then the other pics I've viewed on Yelp, the yams were good not overly sweet, the potato salad was ok, needed some relish. Overall I would give them a C+/ B- grade. Sorry I forgot to take pics before we dug in. Will order again to see what other options are like. read more

Sometimes you want a good home cooked meal...and you don't feel like cooking it. Lol I had heard about this spot and finally made my way. Ordered the short ribs, cabbage and macaroni and cheese. After confusion of whether or not they had any more ribs, she collected my payment as I awaited my lunch of choice. I get home and now it is time to dine. Ribs - tender, well seasoned and lick your fingers good. Cabbage - just right. Macaroni and Cheese - tasty (don't be stingy on the cheese) Now I can't be too hard on a soul food spot as it is hard for some to remain consistent. On this first visit they hit it out the park. My coworker and I ordered delivery from here and the meals were very lack luster. I was fooled again by instagram, looks so good but doesn't taste so good. The only thing great was the fried shrimp. The sides Mac & cheese & green beans are a hard NO. Fried turkey chops so salty they weren't edible and we thought they would be smothered so very dry as well. I'm here for it!!!! I'm loving the whiting, crab Mac and cheese, cabbage, and POTATO SALAD (the best)!! I also had the Salmon bowl which came with shrimp, rice and broccoli; there is a sweet and spicy sauce on this. I thought it was good, but it wasn't my favorite. They do delivery through Grubhub, which I never had an issue with. This spot is in a busy section of town and there is street parking. If you are going in there with an expectation of service with a huge smile, DONT GO, they don't need the bad review. I know the place gets busy but if you don't have the right attitude, why work in customer service at all? I've literally never received good service at this place. And I've been maybe three times excluding an Uber eats order which was insane. I haven't tried much outside of the crab fries and salmon bowl. The salmon bowl is my go to. It comes with rice and and few glazed shrimp. Crab fries are hit or miss. I've had the honey jerk bowl... but I'm not a jerk fan so, I'll leave that there. The wings were ok But... honestly I'd probably try other things and rate better if the service wasn't so obnoxious. The service being a turn off makes the meals less surprisingly unsatisfactory so unless u just really don't Feel like cooking salmon and don't mind waiting twice as long for the food I would hold off on this place. read more

So you would think after paying almost $70 for three platters that the food would be amazing based off of pictures and it was nothing of the likes sadly. But sometimes food taste better then it looks wrong, I ordered two rib platters with bake mac and greens for one and the second had mac and yams and let me tell you the ribs looked boiled with bbq sauce thrown on top and on both platters the mac was dry like we got the ends but even sometimes the ends is good but not in this case. Oh I forgot at $25 a piece you would expect to have more than two rib flanks in each platter . The third platter was honey jerk wings with mac and yams, first there was no honey bbq sauce on the wings and they were salty and the mac was dry like the previous platters and the yams was somewhat ok. In my opinion this place has fell completely off since moving from the 48th & Lancaster location and since under new management I will no longer order from them and will tell others i know to not order from there!!!!!! I have eaten from here 3 times to date. I have not been to the actual restaurant. The first time I had salmon with rice and collard greens. It was delivered by them. It was a Friday my coworkers and I decided to try this place. The delivery did take a long time, longer than the 45 minutes that was said. I will say it was about 5 orders. The last 2 times I had the same thing, which was the lamb chops with mac & cheese and collard greens. These 2 times my coworker picked the orders up, which was a lot faster than them delivering. It's best to pick up your food on busy days. The food is very tasty. I actually liked the lamb chops better than the salmon. On Fridays (not sure if this is temporary) they run a $10 all platters sale. Now that I've had a chance to read the full menu I'll be trying more things. read more

Ordered pickup and didn't check the food before I left due to COVID (I have a whole process for handling/transferring takeout during this time). When I got home, I found the most horrific crab cakes I've ever seen in my life. Yes, this photo isn't of sausages or brownies, it's severely burnt crab cakes. So the pictures drew me in but I don't think I will be back. My sister and I ordered 2 separate orders at 5:10pm. I got the general tso's salmon, and lemon pepper wings. She at first ordered a honey jerk chicken bowl, was told they were out of them. So she settled for general tso's shrimp and teriyaki wings. We were told our totals and that we would get a call when it was done....a call???Hmm ok. We went across town. Pulled up front...and sat...and sat..and sat....we called to let them know we were out front and were told they were still working on our meals....at 6:29 pm as we were slowly fading away to dust. We got a call to say our food was ready. Praise Him! I went to the door to pay (damn u Covid) and had to give my cards at the door. Was asked if it was together I said no one at a time. The door lady comes back and says oh shoot. I said what, she said I charged both of the meals on one card. She said I will just refund the one. I was like ok cool. Took my food to sis in the car, go back and here comes the door lady saying oh my manager is not here to refund it....by this time I was pissed and hungry so I said whatever and left, Even though the meals were slightly different in price. We get to our hotel. Yes we were in town visiting, and started to eat. Looked great! Looks can be deceiving. So the salmon was excellent. It took me a while to find it, since it was buried in slightly sautéed peppers and onions. If I was home I would have thrown them back in the frying pan for a few minutes. The collards were pretty bland and crunchy. Yup I said crunchy. The macaroni was the worst. It had a weird taste, was dry and salty. Ick. My lemon pepper wings had no lemon taste whatsoever.. just salt and pepper.. My sister got crab macaroni and cheese and she said it was terrible and extremely salty and dry. She said her collards had peppers in it like a chili pepper. Yuck. The teriyaki wings were hard. I was really disappointed because the pictures on the site looked pretty dang good. The banana pudding cheesecake is awesome! (The best part of my lunch!) The fried whiting sandwich needed salt and was literally 2 large pieces of whiting and two slices of white bread. Nothing between the bread and fish, no sauce or seasoning. The Mac n Cheese was very tasty! read more

This place is a good option for a quick fix for soul food. I've had take out from here on multiple occasions and each experience has been different... To start, they have diverse menu options and I don't think that there has been one instance where I have called and they haven't had something so I will give them a thumbs up on that. The prices of the entrees are reasonable however, the dessert is over priced BUT very tasty... About the quality of the food - it is good (nothing spectacular) and the food is not greasy, which is another thumbs up for me. Additionally, the presentation and the portion sizes are on point (thumbs up again)... My favorite menu items are the General Tso's Salmon platter and the Fried Turkey Chop platter... Regarding the sides, I've had the Mac and Cheese, potato salad and greens; Mac and Cheese is good, potato salad was delightful but the greens are just OK (there's something about the way that the greens are seasoned that I'm not too crazy about but I LOVE greens so they are a must when I order)... Also, my favorite dessert is the Berry Papi Cake (I think that's what it's called - it's pink, you'll know it when you see it)... Overall, Crafty Soul is worth a try... If you decide to order, call ahead - Wednesday through Saturday wait times can be a little absurd. read more

I enjoy the food here. I don't eat red meat or poultry but there salmon bowl or general tso salmon is delicious I really enjoy it. Although the wait is a litter longer than I would like the food makes up for it. I would say it's definitely worth the wait. read more

Update: Dear Crafty Soul, you really broke my heart today. For months after I discovered ya'll in my initial review I ordered solely from you because I love your food. I took a bit of a break recently and had a craving for some soul food today and went to what I thought was a reliable source for some. The crab cakes were full of shells and inedible. The potato salad had way too much vinegar in them and the while extremely tender the meat way under seasoned. I am highly disappointed. Original: Ordered food for the first time through UberEats and it was very good. Had the Whiting platter with Shrimp Mac and cheese and collard greens. We have got deliveries from Crafty Soul a couple of times. We always get the short ribs. They are flavorful and falling off the bone tender. The Mac and cheese is extra cheesy goodness. My daughter loves the yams. I love the potato salad but she thinks it has too many onions. The greens taste like they may be vegan. Cooked with no meat added maybe. The first night it didn't taste as flavorful and savory as soul food greens usually do. The next evening, after the spices marinated a bit it was on point and delicious!! Portion sizes were huge!!
