I am extremely disappointed with my experience here. I visited on Friday and was the only customer in the shop at the time. I had a long, respectful conversation with a staff member named Mo and trusted him when I purchased a SMOK Nord 4 as a gift for a friend. ​When I got home, I discovered the box was missing a slot/parts inside. I have tried calling the shop repeatedly to resolve this, but no one answers. It's upsetting to be treated this way, especially after being so upfront about my situation and the fact that this was a gift. I feel completely misled and robbed of my money and trust. I strongly advise anyone shopping here to open the box and check every single part before leaving, as they clearly do not stand behind what they sell once you walk out the door. read more

They sell nicotine and cannabis products to minors. So I guess it's 5 stars if you're a high schooler, but it kind of sucks if you're the guardian of a child who struggles with addiction issues. Like the accessibility is wild. Also, in a place where we benefit from cannabis vendors, DeLauer's should get an actual license so they're taxed accordingly if they want to continue selling weed under the table. read more

I came in with my boyfriend we were looking to buy a new nectar collecter. Shout out to Miles for being so welcoming and helpful. He gave us great price on the nectar collecter we wanted and he also showed us a new electric nectar that was going for about $50 to $80 bucks but definetly seems worth it. I stopped in to look for a magazine. Disappointing...They don't sell magazines anymore, only a few newspapers.

Back over 40-something years ago, my hang out after high school was De Lauer's Book and Newsstand in Downtown Oakland before I headed home. De Lauer's has a newsstand here in Alameda. It is not as huge as the store in Oakland, but it does serve its purpose. This store has mainly magazines, greeting cards, plenty of snacks and candies. The greeting cards are cute, but pricey...$4.50 each. I saw packs of Krave Jerky and the price was not bad at all...$6.29...compared to Safeway at $6.99. I did not want to go in there just to browse. I ended up purchasing Dell's Crazy for Sudoku magazine for a little over $3.00. I had to get something worth while instead of a snack, which would be consumed rapidly. Besides Sudoku puzzles are more challenging, and the older one gets, one needs to do these puzzles to stimulate the mind. Even though this De Lauer's is not as huge as the one in Oakland, I like it because it's conveniently located in town, there's not a whole lot of riff raffs hanging in front of the store, it's clean and things are not in a disarray. read more

I visited this DeLauer's yesterday thinking it was still a newsstand, but it's not. They have a single rack of newspapers and that's it. I've been here in the past when they had a good variety of hard-to-find magazines and journals. Now it's just a headshop and burner cellphone store. No Cigar at DeLauer's I have been a Alameda resident for 25 years and went to DeLauer's today ... Feb 1st 2024 to purchase cigars for a visiting friend. I asked the hired staff, of whom there were two, if either of them knew anything about cigars, as I only know they contain tobacco. Neither of them had any information other than the price. Most of the cigar boxes were empty, and only a small handful of cigar options were available behind a glass cabinet. I was approached by the woman staff person and she asked if I had put a cigar in my purse, which I did not. Upon opening my bag to show her she then insisted she saw me put a cigar in my purse. I then opened my waist wallet to show her the inside. The staff male working there who was at the counter told her I did not put a cigar in my purse. I was quite offended by her accusation At this point I asked her to search my purse and offered over my bag. She declined a look. I will likely never step foot in DeLauer's again as it was quite the negative experience. read more

Is it so old-fashioned to read print magazines or newspapers? Maybe... but it's oh so good! And this wonderful place is always there when you need it. I was on the hunt for a magazine for my daughter. Digital wouldn't do. I knew I could count on DeLauer's... They had it! and when I spoke to them by phone, they promised to hold it behind the counter. Such sweet happy energy in this family-run place. It's right on Broadway in a part of downtown Oakland that doesn't see a lot of action when people aren't going to work midweek. But to me this place is like a landmark, like the Oakland Tribune building. So glad it's still here. It's worth parking for! read more

With the digital age, stores selling extensive titles of magazines and newspapers are becoming harder and harder to find. If I have a hard to find magazine, I've gone to De Laurer's Super Newsstand on Broadway in Downtown Oakland. It isn't a convenient and great location. Now De Laurer's has opened a store on Alameda's Park St. This store, which is on Park St. in Downtown Alameda, is not as large as the Oakland store, but is does have a great selection of magazines and newspapers, as wells as books, snacks, and souvenirs. I just came in several times to pick up commemorative issues of the SF Chronicle celebrating the Warriors Championship. I had a hard time finding them elsewhere, but they were available here in De Laurer's. After notifying my friends, I came back several times to pick up issues of the hard to find "Parade Extra" issue. It is great that you've made Alameda the location of a new store. You made me and my friends very happy! read more

After Jim D reviewed this newsstand I knew I would have to check this location to see what they offer. I enjoy magazines and I come to Alameda 2 to 3 times a month for club meetings. Perhaps, I would be able to find just what I wanted at this store. I did not see the magazines I wanted; however, I saw many that I did not know I wanted. Don't let the small size of the store deceive you, it is chock full of magazine and snacks. I am sure that they carry something for just about every interest. Jim mentioned that they will order for you. Rather than have a special order, I'll just stop in when I am in Alameda to see what they have. read more

DeLauer's isn't much like the original. mostly magazines here. didn't see much books if any. it's a small shop similar to the size of one's living room. also offering nice cigars, bon appetit pastries, local and national newspapers, soft drinks, snacks, chips, ice cream? buys: italian lemon soda(1.25) notes: -place really clean, -didn't look but didn't see any girly mags. fashion mags an whole shelf -would come again to browse mags, meter permitting. read more

Sam and Miles run a great operation with good service and good prices. From newspapers to vape juice, they have those items we need that aren't available at the supermarket or the drugstore. If we needed a cell phone, they can take care of that too. read more

I walked in expecting there to only be newspapers and magazines but I found the best smokeshop in alameda. I was told if they didn't have what I wanted they would get it for me. And they actually did about a week later, best smokeshop on the island hands down. read more

Great selection of magazines. It has a better selection then a Barnes and Noble. I usually buy two or three magazines and if they don't have it they will order. I requested one magazine ...Grass Roots Motorsports and within 2 weeks they had it. Very helpful staff plus they offer a large selection of snacks and sodas. The other store on Broadway had a larger selection but this place is way safer. No homeless folks trying to panhandle in downtown Alameda. Yesterday, a Saturday afternoon, three or four young teenage girls crowding around the counter where the register is, talking to store clerk on duty (a nice enough young guy who they appeared to be visiting with--he was about the same age as them). The girls were a bit sullen and moody when he told them to move away from the counter so that I could pay for the the item I wanted to purchase. As soon as I was done and turned to exit, the girls immediately began drifting back towards the register and one of them gently brushed up against me--deliberately, to be insolent, I think. I left without saying anything--didn't want to make a big deal about it, but it bothered me. This seems to be one of the few businesses on Park Street opened again for walk-in customer traffic. For all the above reasons, an unpleasant shopping experience and, if you value social distancing this is definitely NOT the place for you. read more

One of the best recent additions to Park St. Super clean shop, superb selection of periodicals, way beyond what the bookstore down the block has to offer. The employees are always very nice and receptive to suggestions, eager to carry something you would like to see. Great candy and refreshment choices, and their hours are very generous. How lucky is Alameda to get De Lauer's after it closed their Oakland location. What a huge selection of magazines. I counted 21 magazines on airplanes alone! De Lauer's also has puzzles, candies, cigars, calendars, snacks, etc. Nothing like a newsstand and there's nothing like De Lauer's. Since moving to Alameda in 2011, I had been looking for a source for English soccer magazines. I discovered delauer's in March, and was thrilled to find that they had all the soccer titles I had heard of, and quite a few I hadn't. Staff is friendly, efficient, and attentive. They are also willing to call or email you when an issue you want comes in. They also sell many other things such as candy and cards. The storefront appears to be small at first glance, but the building opens up the further back you go, offering plenty of room to hang out and browse. Also, the layout is very wheelchair friendly, not an easy feat in a store crammed full of magazines. the one negative I would point out is that since most of the titles Delauer's carries are imported or specialty magazines you will pay more for them(the average price of the Soccer magazines is $10) but you also have to consider that you probably won't find the majority of these titles anywhere else. Also, I've discovered that paying Delauer's prices is often cheaper than subscribing to the publications themselves. If this place were to close, it would be a huge loss to Alameda! read more

I've always loved DeLauers because of their selection of newspapers and magazines, but always dreaded going to their Oakland location. I can't tell you the number of times I drove into Oakland at crappy hours to get newspapers. Since this location has opened I almost never have to go to Oakland. They have a huge selection of magazines and newspapers that is almost as big as their Oakland store, but in a great location. Thank you for opening this location! An amazing selection of magazines that I have not seen anywhere else in the area. Selections include motorsports, crafts, social (low & high end), puzzles, cooking and loads of magazines on topics that I have never thought existed. Several people came in and requested special orders (World Cup Soccer was one) and they handled it right away. They also have some interesting soft drinks that I have not seen before. It was a great experience to step into an actual newsstand. The clerk behind the counter was perfectly helpful. I spent half an hour browsing the different magazines and was completely surprised to find such a great selection of comic books as well. The collection of magazines is impressive as well. I didn't have time to peruse the newspapers so I'll have to make a return trip in the near future. As a reader, having a resource like DeLauer's is critical. Although I do plenty of reading online I believe DeLauer's is irreplaceable to find local news and print media. Also, I find that browsing print is just as relaxing and enjoyable as any other hobby (especially at a huge bookstore like Barnes & Noble). read more

I happened to wander into here, and I just kept going back to the refrigerated section. It has such an amazing selection of beverages. I knew I just had to buy something for the simple fact that I couldn't help but stare at them for over 15 minutes. The type of drinks offered are just so unique. The guy behind the counter was so knowledgable, he answered every question I had about the products without making me feel like a burden (one of my favorite aspects of customer service). I love these sorts of stores. It's a little oasis from the rest of reality. Step in, and you are taken back to a world where not everything was online, digital, and mass produced. Sure you have your standard magazines, the publications you will find at any check-stand counter. But you will also find a legit comic section, and specialty magazines to your hearts content. read more
