This is a pretty funny sign!
    Mikey H.

It was raining above and we found ourselves wandering around the underground city. When hunger set in, we found ourselves in front of the DP. The signage was funny and I thought, what the heck. The lone worker said we could sit anywhere. There were a couple of families and some other wayward people eating. It's also adjacent to the central train station, so I'm sure this place is a zoo on a busy day. We ordered a bottle of wine....I mean...why not? I also ordered the poutine to share. Not bad, but not authentic. Made with mozzarella, gravy, and some limp fries. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with a salad. Really huge portion of the salad, which was dressed well. The burgers that came out were good, but the same limp fries came out with. Granted, given the location, this is not a gourmet foodie kind of place, but a kitchy kind of diner. It's not a bad place to grab a meal. Some of the other items on the menu looked promising. But if you ever find yourself wandering down in the underground, this place is worth checking out.

    Deli Man...provider of bad food!

Look...up in the sky...it's a bird...it's a plane...it's...it's... Deli Man!!! Who? Yeah exactly...Deli Man is the superhero that welcomes you to this mess of a fast food joint in Montreal's Deli Planet restaurant. Picture Applebees minus the bad food. Yes it is that bad! Now granted, the location I visited was directly below my hotel. In Montreal they have an Underground City, which comes in handy when the weather is bad outside. Oh and it was bad. On a -30 degree day in this beautiful city I went underground and came across this happy looking place. I was in the mood for bad food. By "bad", I mean "greasy, cheese filled and fun" food...not "wtf is this?" food. Anyways here is what I ordered: Appetizer: Nachos Macho. Yes that is what it is called. No I did not call it that to the waiter. I hate places that give their food items stupid names, I am not saying "fruity tooty fresh and fruity" at IHOP and I will not say "Moons over My Hammy" at Denny's! Just say pancaked or scrambled eggs dammit! Oh yeah back to my review...now while I love my nachos...but this big bowl of chips with melted cheese, salsa, sour cream and jalapeno was just a big bowl of yuck. It came out cold and the chips tasted stale. I told them that the chips were cold, they offered to "warm" them up. Really? Are you going to nuke this mess and bring back a Nachos Macho Soup? I said I was not happy with this and they just stood there with a blank stare. I said I would not pay for this and the guy just walked away. Ha!? Main Course: Ordered the BBQ chicken. Meh...not going to say it was the worse chicken ever...but it surely was not tasty. Maybe because they gave me a side of mashed potatoes and the genius in the back poured mounds and mounds of gravy all over my plate. I mean I love gravy, but this was ridiculous. Besides my gravy pool being everywhere, it was not even that good. I skipped dessert (shocked?)...and paid my bill, minus the nacho chips. Told the woman at the front counter on my way out that I was not happy with them and to look at my table (which was in view) and said that they were still there untouched. She agreed...I paid...and left this joint. Au Revoir.

I forget the name of this smoke meat sandwich but it was juicy ! Fries were swapped for the house salad.

A good friend and I decided to catch up after work for a bite ... amongst many delicious choices, we chose Deli-Planet. The food was good and fresh! The portions were generous. Service was okay- This restaurant's theme is on point! Cool names for their dishes which lives up to every bite.

The Veal Parmesean lunch special.....pretty tasty.

Great deli!! A bit off the grid in the train station but huge restaurant with delicious deli favorites like smoked meat, poutine, brochettes, club sandwiches etc. The food is always good with nice sized portions and moderately priced. If you want the best service you've ever had, ask for Soto.

As much as they're huge Mozza sticks aren't the best that I ate even tho they make Wonderful Cheese pulls lol . Burger was amazing and love that the bacon was chewy and not crispy and burnt . Also no accessible what so ever for wheel chairs people as it's on a second floor and bathroom at the 3rd floor . Amazing ambience overall and big shout-out to the arts in the store with recycled glass bottle . Our waitress was really sweet and offered amazing service.

As for the food, yes lots of burger, but also offerings that are in regular burger places like salads, poutine and such. The place is on the second floor and span on two floor with an outdoor terrasse (I think on both floor). If you are in a wheelchair or can't go up stairs, you can't reach the restaurant. There's no elevator anywhere (although I don't even know where they could fit it). The place is quite small, like most restaurant near that place. The bathroom are only on the second (third) floor. I took the supersonic burger with fries. The fries are generic fried brown fry you get from corner shack but less greasy (in fact I didn't taste the grease/oil). The burger I took was very good. It felt different then regular burger I take at other place where you can taste the grease or something that make the burger heavy. I finished eating it and while I was full, it felt like I had a light filling meal. My girlfriend took another burger I forgot the name and she really liked it. She took it with the salads which is mostly just greens. You can substitute the buns for lettuce for free. There's also different sides offering, some with extras frees like poutine. The service this time was good. No big wait, waitress came at multiple time to check to see if everything was ok and to refill our glass.

But before even checking in, we had to walk through Bar George ~ and instantly knew we wanted to eat there. We were lucky enough to grab a last-minute reservation, and Julien took a good care of us throughout the evening. His recommendation of the Beef Wellington was spot on (it's already one of our favorite dishes), but this was hands down the best we've ever had. I ordered the lobster risotto, which was excellent with just the right amount of spice. My son had the 10 oz striploin steak with homemade fries (chips), and it was absolutely delicious. I also loved the Canadian touch of coarse salt on the steak, plus the option to choose between Béarnaise or peppercorn sauce. Julien also mentioned their pastry chef placed second in a NY competition, and the desserts absolutely lived up to that reputation. We tried the pineapple and coconut pavlova and the "lick me hazelnut" ~ both beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. We also ordered iced coffee and a latte, and noticed something interesting: this was the second place where we found Canadian coffee to be smooth and mild ~ such a nice change from the often bitter, over-roasted American coffee. Yes, dinner was a bit steep ($300+), but it was worth every penny. Between the rich history, stunning design, outstanding service, and unique cuisine, I would highly recommend Bar George. I would absolutely love to come back!!

Even those with more casual interest in beer probably know that DDC makes really great drinks. And yep, they were excellent. I wasn't there to do a long session, so I got a couple tasters, one including Peche Mortal and the other a NEIPA. Two very different styles and both extremely well done. Beyond that, the space had a very old-fashioned look. Really nice wooden fixtures and a very warm, welcoming vibe. The server was also attentive and friendly, but also knew when to let people sit back and enjoy their drinks. You probably don't need me to tell you, but yes, you should go.

He expressed interest in hitting up some breweries, so I did some research and compiled a few we could potentially visit. Brasserie Dieu du Ciel was one of them, and it just so happened we were in its vicinity after our Mile End food tour concluded. That being said, we made our way over. While I am not a beer person myself, I'll have a round or two if I'm with a group, and can appreciate a good brewery. My first impression of Dieu du Ciel was just that - the vibes were on walking in. The space is pretty large - kinda separated into semi- compartmentalized spaces with tables throughout. There's not much decor, but medium-toned woods throughout which gave it a sort of upscale feel. They offer a food menu, but we were just here for drinks. They have a really wide selection of beer - again, I'm no connoisseur, but I could tell that the selection was way more than other breweries I've been to. I ended up getting a cider for the first round and a stout for my second round - both very good. Service was great, and overall we enjoyed our time at Dieu du Ciel. Their selection and comfortable setting made it a standout brewery for me out of the ones I've visited in Montreal - I wouldn't hesitate to return.
