This is the one that made me start looking for replacements for my entire medical team that took me…read moreYEARS to assemble. I have, unofficially until I hear back from NY, 9/11 Sickness. So I was a frequent user of AGH for five years and a donor for four of those five years. But my last visit with this nurse made me tap out. I have Hashimoto's which I didn't know when I walked away from that 'other' healthcare system. There will be a review on that endocrinologist coming up. It's high time that patients in this area know what they're in for if they don't advocate for themselves, do their research, etc. I will give this one credit for knowing that you have to test for ALL the "T"s when a patient is symptomatic but the standard hypothyroid indicator is normal. Something the last one apparently didn't know. So I will give credit where credit is due. However... The night before my final appt with this nurse I had been online researching low T3 when all of the other "T"s were within normal range. I found a paper published by NIH that stated that there was a specific prescription that would target just the low T3. Cool. I could continue to take Synthroid and just add this one to my daily routine. When I saw her the next day she hadn't reviewed my lab results yet. Okay, she's busy. I'm not her only patient. So I started updating her as she was scrambling to locate my labs. She gave me NO treatment plan even though I had all the classic symptoms. Hair loss, fatigue, temperature sensitivity, etc. She said it was because of my weight loss. Okay, and? What did that have to do with the price of rice in China? Back story on the weight loss for perspective on this issue. I had been sick with some sort of gastro issue since March of 2023. At this point, I've lost nearly 80 lbs. I was at a 60ish lb weight loss when I saw her about my Hashimoto's. So what was her point in bringing up my weight loss? I have been and continue to lose weight. Was I supposed to continue to suffer with the Hashimoto's in the meantime? I asked her what the treatment was going to be since she offered none. Here's where you dear reader are going to want to sit down because you aren't going to believe this. She pulled up a syrup on Amazon and told me to order that to take. I'm sorry but what?? *It is not FDA-approved. *Is not recommended by any reliable source(s) to treat a low T3. *And if it were any good Big Pharm would have patented it by now and we'd have a whole new crop of millionaires if it was any good. THIS is what passes for valid medical advice?? No, I did not buy the "it tastes like Robitussin" (her words) syrup. I have enough medical issues without ingesting some untested BS. What I DID do was find a Primary DOCTOR who corrected THREE issues with this nurse. This nurse had me on a medication that the DOCTOR stated was 2x higher than the dose I should have been on. Stated that no, I did NOT need to be on the name brand medication for the Hashioto's, that the generic was fine saving my insurance company money and saving ME from having to have a second pharmacy on file because my primary pharmacy didn't carry the name brand. And lastly, there was a different script altogether, not the one from my research or the one this nurse had me on, that would target the low T3 and T4 (based on my lab result history) so I only had to choke down ONE pill not two or some Amazon syrup. Wow. At this point, not only am I feeling better than I have in over a year I have my appetite back and am slowly beginning to gain the weight back. Sans two invasive gastro procedures. Imagine that.

When advanced it…read morecan put your family on an extreme emotional roller coaster that you can't get off and find yourself pleading for mercy from a higher power and looking for miracles in modern medicine. It is an unbelievable blessing to have a doctor that communicates on your level, explaining the situation we are now in and what we are doing to get to the next level. When it was touch and go, our doctor lived at the hospital for days making himself available for necessary treatment, calling in his team for middle of the night surgeries. Then on to explanations, detailed as I wanted in layman's terms to really understand what was happening to my other half. Never short on time, always keeping me informed whether by his repeated phone calls to update me or hospital visit. Encouraging but realistic. He would laugh when I'd tell him that to me he was next to God, but those are truthful words. He was holding my beloved's life in his hands. Staff at the PRMC ICU could not have been more qualified and efficient in their care, always checking and charting and knowledgeable of the current condition, paying utmost attention and ready and willing to answer my questions on the wall of monitors charting each vital tied like multiple umbilical cords to my husband's body. Never to interfere with their work that was so important, but needed by me to manage control of my emotions and help eliminate some of the fears. They are angels of mercy in my eyes. Always positive, caring, watchful over their patient. The nurses also sang the praises of these doctors without reservation, they loved working there because of them. Truly a great team. All interaction was so respectful of my husband, tender to our feelings, careful knowing how fragile we both were in this horrible situation all the way through to the end. A simple 'Thank You' to them would never be enough for their support given at a most difficult time. I could not have asked for better and am completely satisfied that every effort was made to bring us to a peaceful ending, which they did.

I made an appointment…read morethree months ago (today was the soonest I could get in) for the MedStar Shah Medical Group at Annapolis Endocrinology Medical Center. I called a month ago to confirm my appointment (and they had it then), but when I called yesterday to double-check, I was told they did not have an appointment for me. The lady at the call center I spoke to put me on hold for over ten minutes saying there was a problem and she needed help. When she came back on the phone I was told that it was their error-someone there started a chart for me but never put the appointment in the system. Strange that I was able to confirm my appointment back in June. The call center sent a note to the actual office manager asking her to call me back. I called back to the call center to try to talk to someone higher up. I was then told that the office manager would not be calling me back because it wasn't her problem. When I asked to talk to the call center leader I was put on hold and then told they were in a meeting. I was furious and told them that I better hear back from them before they left for the day, but, surprise, I never received a call. The next appointment available isn't until December. So, because of their error, they expect me to wait another four months. This lack of accountability is unacceptable.

I knew it wouldn't be answered until Monday morning. I had no back-up supplies for this situation... I called first thing Monday morning also to make sure they got my message and to also tell the receptionist what was going on. I told her I was a patient of Dr. Onumah and my insulin pump broke and I had no back-up supplies... I asked her to ask the doctor if she could call in some insulin pens for me to use until I got a new pump.... I thought I got the point across that this was an EMERGENCY.... guess not! I did not hear back ALL DAY..... Around 4pm I finally called and the office was CLOSED!!! I got the answering service and asked the gentleman to page Dr. Onumah as this was an emergency. She calls me 20 minutes later and says "what's going on?" When I tell her, her reply is "Well did you call the office?" Why yes, I did. Then her response was, "Oh I haven't checked my inbox all day..." WHY? It's just mind boggling that this office was so careless about my life in this situation... I literally need insulin to stay alive... How does that not register as an emergency? Regardless of if the doctor hasn't checked her messages, the front desk person I spoke with should have alerted her that I had no supplies and no working insulin pump... I am so disappointed with how I was treated and will not be returning to this practice. Be warned, that if something like this happens to you, don't waste your breath... call your PCP instead. Luckily, mine came through with some samples to hold me over until I get my new pump...

I told her that more detailed thyroid tests are needed, but she did not want to test anything else. I could not believe how dismissive she was and how rude. Worst medical practice ever!
