I was surprised to see the Cohn Restaurant Group open up an eatery in this part of town. It turns out the lucky folks were the people who live in Del Cerro. Del's Hideout is nestled between two economy budget inns off the Waring Rd exit of I-8. I visited during the mid-afternoon when it was less crowded, but the number of customers lined up to order food/drinks was steady the entire time I was there. I can easily visualize how both the parking lot and the wait to place an order would be highly congested during peak meal hours. The instructions were to order food and beverages from the registers at the bar, take a seat with a claim number, and then your items would be brought out to your table. Simple enough, however if you required service from a waiter, wanted to get more food and drink, or needed to pay a supplemental check, then you tap one of three buttons on a small console at the table to summon a staff member. Each of them was wearing a smartwatch to indicate which table had pressed a button for assistance. On to my meal... the menu featured items you would expect at a neighborhood bar and grill. I selected a BBQ Brisket plate which came with pickle slices, pickled onions, a couple of pieces of Texas toast and a choice of two sides. I chose the green bean casserole and the roasted fingerling potatoes. It took about 10-15 minutes for my dish to come out of the kitchen so that wasn't bad at all. Out of all the components to my plate, the brisket was the most disappointing. It was smoked well, however the slices I received were extremely fatty. Don't get me wrong as I love a moist brisket, but my serving was just loaded with fat. On the other hand, the sides were terrific especially the fingerling potatoes which were roasted perfectly. I was pleased to find out the pickles were sweet which I prefer over the dill type. For $18.95, the price was great for the portion size. The restaurant was very kid friendly with a small outdoor play area along with a set of arcade games along one wall of the inside dining area. Their staff will need time to get up to speed with the customer volume so people should just be patient as always for a newly opened place. read more

Hiding out at Del's hideout is a great spot to have a drink, eat great food, and enjoy upstanding service on a Saturday afternoon. You can't go wrong with the pastrami sandwich perfectly seasoned paired with some crispy onion rings. Top the meal off with a nice frozen Paloma, which is always refreshing and tasty. The wings are a good treat as well. There is a kid play area out back, and on the other side of the bar, they have some video Games. They do close a tad early, but I'm sure they have their reasons. But come early, try the BBQ too. I don't think you will be disappointed. read more

Wow to the wow! Well we were driving by to the neighborhood past this restaurant when I spotted it, and on our way back I thought what the heck, looks good so let's stop. My goodness yeah hidden gem right here! It is amazing! First off the place is super cute! Little old school boxing pictures outside the main entrance kinda throw at you the kind of place this is. Super points! We walked in and were immoderately greeted, we were offered to sit wherever we pleased, kids chose outside. They have a full bar, TVs playing sports and alcohol galore! On the outside they got a connex box for kids to play in, super cool! With iPads and plenty of toys to play with, sadly only 1 iPads were working. But it wasn't busy so my kiddos got to play on them while we waited for our food to come. Our server was an amazing young lady who was super sweet and attentive. The food came and it was amazing! My little yelpers had the chicken tenders and the fish and chips. My youngest wasn't a fan of the fish apparently too hard on the crunchy side and not enough taste, he asked for lemon to squeeze over his fish and improve the taste. My oldest yelper was pretty satisfied. We ordered the loaded fries as an appetizer with pulled pork and OKG! It was amazing! I ordered their chili cheese burger and also amazing! I'm very weary of ordering chilli anywhere because it can cause questionable results later but this was sooo good for my taste buds and digestive system! once you're done eating you can walk your happy feet over to the self serve ice cream machine for your free dessert of ice cream! Food (4/10): I have been going to Del's every year for the past 5 years, but I don't plan on coming back. This last time I wanted to go for a healthier option, so I got their beef brisket with salad instead of chicken breast. I was given four small pieces of brisket which were very fatty. About a third of the brisket was just fat. The salad came out to $20 (with an additional 5% that they add to all their food items). The brisket was not as tasty as I remembered. We also ordered chicken wings for $17. We were given about 7 wings which was nothing to brag about. My friend got a TJ Burger which was decent. For the three of us without drinks and one appetizer we paid more than $100. Service (6/10): We were greeted by friendly waitstaff at the door. When we asked for recommendations, the server didn't provide a lot of help. My wife usually wants healthier options, but unfortunately Del's doesn't have much besides salad. They brought out the food quickly after we ordered, and they only checked in on us once when we were eating. Ambiance (8/10): The ambiance is nice and clean. A very colorful vibe instead. They have a good play area for kids outside. Overall (5/10): The lackluster quality of the food plus the high prices that we paid for it are the main reasons we don't plan to come back. Del's was great. I saw the sign off the highway and had no desire to stop in. I was taking my son to SDSU for move-in. He was super hungry, and we were trying to figure out where to eat so I open Yelp and handed him my phone. I was then navigated to Del's hideout which made me laugh since I had no desire to eat there in the first place. I ordered the brisket with two sides and he ordered a pulled pork sandwich I believe. The brisket was so tasty; it had a great fat-to-lean ratio, and was probably the best I've ever had in a restaurant. This place is right next to a hotel. The place is pretty clean. I ordered a cheeseburger with pepper jack cheese. I ordered the mac and cheese as a side. The max and cheese is not the best but it's not the worst either. However, the Monty spicy margarita is bomb!!! I loved the tangy juicy taste to it. I have had other spicy margaritas and sometimes they are too strong in the spicy department that all I end up with is heartburn. This margarita was perfect. Our first time here and us and the kids loved it! The atmosphere was nice and clean, with ample seating. We chose to sit outside, as there is a play area for children 10 and younger. Our 8 and 2 year old loved playing in the area as we waited for our food. When kids eat free on Wednesdays, I could see that area becoming over crowded, but on a Sunday at 4:30 pm, it was nice. The spicy margarita was good, but not strong at all. The onion rings were HUGE and probably some of the best onion rings we've had- not greasy or soggy, perfectly cooked. The chicken was juicy, brisket and pulled pork cooked to perfection, and all very flavorful. The mac n cheese is a must and the corn was delicious. I will never come here without ordering the mac n cheese SO good. They don't skimp on the brisket in the chili, also. Service was top notch. Alejandro was our server and he was friendly and perfectly attentive. Drink refills came quickly and when we ordered extra fries for the kids mid-meal, those came out quickly and he happily answered any questions we had. This place didn't start out too well. I first believed Del's HideOut is a place where employees literally hideout. When we were seated, we waited about 15-20 mins before we provided our order. Came here while visiting San Diego. The atmosphere is fun and vibrant. Loud music playing. TV's with sports. Waiters and waitresses all nice and welcoming. They kindly provided me with a gift certificate, which I redeemed this week and had a great experience. -- Ordered a full pound of Prime Beef Brisket, and was charged $21 for the full pound. I came home and noticed how little I had received, so I decided to weigh it. Turns out I only received 0.72 lbs.. with the takeout container? Essentially, I was charged double for the amount of food that I received. Really confused as to how this is acceptable. read more

TVs playing the baseball game, arcade machines for older kids and a play area outside for toddlers. Food was yummy and portions were big. Lots of different options to choose from on the menu. Then a decent sized pork slider with just the right amount of pickled onion, Cole slaw, pickles bbq sauce and meat (with a bonus extra cup of the sweet tangy bbq sauce for extra dipping)! My boyfriends son loved his burger so much that he asked if we could order one for take out so that he could eat it later. The sides were also very good - bacon potato salad and coleslaw. Food was okay. Not a lot of options. Service was uhm interesting. The waitress spilled my drink on me and then told me "don't worry it happens all the time" and walked away. She had no urgency to help me and the drink was all over my lap. This is an iced drink at 7:00 pm and it was colder for san diego weather. When politely confronted that she spilled the drink, she awkwardly said, "I hope my boss didn't see" and then asked if I wanted a cheesecake. It made it so awkward because I felt like any answer other than no would result in her getting in trouble. Not only that, but I was soaked.
