"Jet Airliner" - Steve Miller Band I criticized Delta 11 years ago but now I'm back to praise them. I'm glad the review was still up here because I forgot how bad they were (past tense). Flew into Dallas from Honolulu on 9/27/24 via a layover (less than 2 hours) at Minnesota St. Paul, then back to Honolulu from Dallas on 10/1/24 via layover (less than 1 hour) from Los Angeles. Was really worried about that (read on). WEBSITE: was easy to navigate and pay for flights. APP: the Delta app was fabulous, easy check in 24 hrs prior, print boarding passes, and you could see where your next flight was coming from, and their "on time" stats. It also gives connecting gate information, the map, and how many minutes it took to walk there - GENIUS! BOARDING: on time, not chaotic. Instructions were very clear. We were worried about the short connecting flight times, but each plane was one time, thank goodness! CLEANLINESS: clean airplane, not gross like 11 yrs ago. The bathrooms got gross later, but that's standard no matter which airlines you flew. PERKS: On our overnight flight from HNL to MSP they provided us with a hot meal. We could choose from Chicken or Pasta in economy; I chose Pasta and got cheese tortellini, a tossed salad, a Lilikoi cookie bar, Diamond Head cracker and Tillamook Cheddar Cheese. I thought it was nice that they used local products from Hawaii. Booze for a fee, which we did not buy. Frequent rounds by the flight crew to offer drinks, snacks. Return day flight from DFW to LAX and LAX to HNL, no meal as it was a day flight and each leg shorter than 6 hours, but w/ frequent offers for coffee, water, soft drinks, snacks, and even alcohol at 6 AM (I thought that was funny). In-flight movies, games, podcasts and lots to keep you busy. Complimentary ear buds on each and every flight, including the connecting ones. Loved the in-flight screen where you could see how long it would take before you got to your next destination. For flight geeks, the altimeter shows your descent, super cool! SERVICE: the best on a domestic flight, so far. 5-stars for the service. SEATS: on one flight, the recline feature was broken, so I had to sleep upright for 7 hrs and 50 min. My back was sore. Seats were standard sized. Leg room was pretty decent but I have had bigger legroom on Southwest going between the neighbor islands. WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER: We were texted the wrong gate information for our connecting flight. Luckily we checked our app and the in-flight screen for our connecting gate information, but it still worried us. The pilot could have also announced (as I've heard on other airlines) to let the connecting people get off first, but that didn't happen. Good thing I chose seats as close to the exit as possible (paid extra for those). The app came in really handy with the map to our next flight, and the boarding status of all the connecting flights. No one knew how to turn the lights on. We only found out after our flight attendant on the last flight, had to show us because we had to fill out those Hawaii agriculture forms, I wish there were directions on the general screen. Maybe that was by design, to make everyone sleep on a dark plane. RETURN FACTOR: 100% yes.

Do not fly Delta- traveling with family from Hawaii to LAX- we were all boarded then found out a starter needed to be replaced. We were on the plane for 1.5 hours while it was repaired and then a computer was down; scary to be in plane falling apart. We were asked to deplane and what was an 8am departure time became a 12:45PM. Delta's reparation? Food voucher for $15. I made a formal complaint and this was the response. We are currently sitting on the plane and have been waiting for 15 minutes without any communication. Fly Hawaiian Airlines! Update- they realized they need more fuel, so we are heading back to the gate to refuel. Horrible!

The flight to Honolulu on the Delta One in first class was well worth all my points I have saved for the past two years. It was a seven hour flight and the option to lay down and rest was perfect. It has spoiled me a little. Now I want every flight to be the same experience.

So we took a flight to Osaka recently with Delta (our first to Japan with Delta) and we were pleasantly surprised. The service was great, the food was good (hey we even got ice cream in coach) and the most important feature- the seats were comfortable! They had more seat padding than United and Hawaiian so when you are on a long flight (like 9.5 + hours) that makes a BIIIIG difference! It's no secret that service and perks for coach are better on Asian routes than U.S. domestic, at least in our opinion for U.S. based airlines. If the fares, schedule and location are competitive, Delta's seats will certainly be a major consideration when choosing the airline we use going to Japan. (Hoping that Delta doesn't go the way of other U.S. based airlines by minimizing the seat padding to a hard shell)

Delta Airlines provided a smooth and comfortable journey from Honolulu to JFK. The service was reliable, and the flight staff were courteous. The in-flight experience, including amenities and entertainment options, added to the overall satisfaction of the trip. Delta has been my go to airline for the last 12 years and every time I try something different, I always come back missing Delta's superb service.

Delta is a POS they are up there with Spirit and American. Took a chance and booked first class from Phoenix to Oahu and back, what a fiasco. Chandelier flight 3 times before we left got on board was looking forward to meal....box lunch. Wine box wine. Told the stewards to keep it delta needs it more than I do. Return flight breakfast at 7 am a salmi and cheese breakfast for breakfast in a box see attached. F delta never again

I recently flew Delta's new Delta one service from Honolulu to Kansai AKA Osaka and was very impressed. Upon boarding, I was given sparkling wine in a short glass flute and presented with my dining options. I chose the Japanese menu because of its multi courses. When offered a beverage, there we're many options to choose from including a Macallan double Cask 12 year old single malt scotch whisky. They also had Jack Daniels single barrel. It was a very impressive liquor lineup. During my almost 10 hour flight, there were 3 meal services. First a multi-course Japanese meal then a soba snack with fresh fruit, and finally a hamburger Curry. The Delta one seat is amazing. It is a totally 180-degree flat seat with Westin Heavenly duvet and pillow. They're also noise cancelling headphones and a Tumi amenity kit. It was a great flight and strongly recommended.

(Traveled 04/30/26 TH @ 8:50pm and many times before): This time, I was returning to the…read moresouthwest-esque from Hawai'i, but not at a very friendly price! I recently flew one-way with Southwest Airlines from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) Terminal 2 to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). They had been my favorite domestic carrier for years (I wished they flew internationally!) until Alaska Airlines dethroned them with more routes. Southwest Airlines cornered the southwest and west coast air traffic markets, respectively, and have flown them for business and pleasure. Did this airline still rule the southwest skies!? PURCHASE(S) One-Way Wanna-Get-Away Airfare ($253.10): Nowadays, I booked one-way flights because I usually had more flexibility when I needed to return. However, in this particular case, I needed to be back in Los Angeles for a work event the next afternoon. Since I booked the flight less than three weeks before its departure, I was basically screwed for domestic air travel during the medium season (I returned right after the spring break window). On a red-eye direct flight that arrived in Los Angeles around 5:30am the next morning, it allowed me enough time to get home, get ready, and get to my work event. Checked Luggage (Varied; N/A this instance): This once FREE amenity has since been removed and now was a paid expense. I traveled very light, especially for a quick trip such as this, so I only had a carry-on and backpack. FLIGHT EXPERIENCE ~Check-in: I checked-in online 24-hours prior (Group 3), had my QR code boarding pass on their app, and traveled with only a carryon and backpack, so I was ready to go! I had Global Entry & TSA PreCheck, so my time with security checkpoints and the necessary TSA pleasantries was efficient and minimal. When it was time, passengers were queued-up in order of their boarding group (i.e. A/B/C). The flight felt like it arrived shortly after it departed. ~Seat(s): 27A Window - Come on, it was the same sardine can like all airplanes these days. Recently, Southwest Airlines started assigning seats, so it was no longer a free-for-all once you boarded the plane. I always favored a window seat towards the back of the plane close to the restroom and snacks. I was lucky enough to almost get exactly that! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=72&select=mPgY2GS6Z8NBlgeqkY9tkw ~In-flight Meals (Varied; FREE this instance): I opted for my normal Seagram's Ginger Ale and this time a bag of almonds https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=72&select=5-89IYcr8bJRpTt-GoMSwg on Southwest Airlines that I loved. ~Lavatory: I'd done my business at the terminal before we left, so I had no idea of the condition of the restroom closest to me. ~Service & Amenities: All uniformly-dressed flight attendants were adequate and spoke perfect English. None of the seats had video monitors for movie/show watching, music listening, and games playing. The seats themselves were roomy enough. No blankets, headphones, or pillows were provided. The drink/snack cart rolled out shortly after the plane leveled off after takeoff. There were no carry-on baggage fees. PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): I traveled through and had no need to park (I was dropped off). However, the airport offered onsite parking garages with rates that varied depending on length of stay from FREE (less than 15 minutes) and around $1.00 (16-30 minutes) to a range of $27.00/daily maximum (8+ hours). Because my gate was located within Terminal 1 of departing flights, you had to already be an outgoing or incoming passenger to even get here, so parking would be a moot point. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Located deep into Terminal 2 (specifically near Gates E4-E10) filled with several gates, plenty of reasonably-priced eateries and duty-free shops, and a handful of monitors as you passed them along the way. There were sufficient places to sit in the terminal with plenty of natural and electric lighting. Once on the airplane, it seemed like any other, so nothing really needed to be said or seen here, but I wished I recalled the type of plane since I was nerdy like that! ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. I liked to be unencumbered and unfettered, so the least amount of clothing, especially while I traveled through an airport, the better! OVERALL My one-way non-stop flight on Southwest Airlines out of Honolulu (HNL) was fine and got me to Los Angeles (LAX) safely which truthfully was all that mattered to me on any flights. I wished there were seat video monitors that helped pass the time. In any case, I'd fly and recommend them again. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $253.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 4.0 STARS

You are now free to move about the country." ― Southwest Airlines slogan…read more I'm a big fan of Southwest Airlines and when they started their new route to Hawaii, I knew I would eventually have to take a flight. All that said, you're not getting POG juice or any fun snacks outside the realm of Southwest's normal fare. Southwest Airlines does offer exclusive alcoholic beverages on Hawaii flights, including toasted coconut rum and a pineapple-hinted ale. Alcoholic beverages are available for purchase on most flights, though they may be complimentary for passengers in upgraded "Extra Legroom" seating. I like Southwest Airlines. My check-in bag was two-pounds over the limit on my flight back home but they let it slide. Now that's how you continue getting my business, even though bags no longer fly free and I keep getting stuck in the middle seat for some odd reason.

Continuing on, the transition has not been the easiest I'm sure for the traveler, the airline employees and all others who were involved however slight in this marriage of Pualani and the Eskimo. The backhouse infrastructure is in full force and effect, and very noticeable starting with the reservation and check in processes. The combination of backhouse staffing was in the works over the past few years and has now come full circle. The jury is out still and all we can do is cross our fingers and hope for the best. The front of the house still uses the Pualani logo and designs in the terminal and on the flights (my first review outlines this) Gate and boarding area for interisland and domestic flights remain the same (so far). The offer sounded very attractive: sign up for the card and receive 85,000 bonus points after meeting what was described as a relatively small spending requirement. Based on that information, I applied for the card when I got home. About two weeks later, I called customer service to ask about the bonus points. The first representative told me I needed to spend $4,000 to qualify. Later, another representative gave me different information, saying I should wait one or two billing cycles, or two to four weeks, for the points to appear. What makes this especially frustrating is that I previously had a Hawaiian Airlines credit card and membership and never had any issues. Everything was straightforward, and the benefits were delivered as promised. At this point, I'm confused about the requirements and timeline. I hope the bonus points arrive soon, but the information presented on the airplane does not seem to match the information I received afterward from customer service. I'm sharing this experience so others can carefully review the terms and conditions and know exactly what is required before applying.

Although they can get you to major destinations across Asia and all ASEAN countries, they aren't in Alliance with other major airline carriers. Booking online was easy. Upon waking up that morning prior to departure, I noticed the flight was delayed by 1 1/2 hours. Which gave ample time to make our way to the airport to grab a bite and coffee before boarding the plane. Online check-in was successful, with 3 hours check-in time, it was sufficient. Having Global Entry membership allows you to expedite security via TSA Precheck only in Honolulu and other US Airports. One piece of information I failed to pack was my Vaccination card or take a photo of both front and back of the card. My fault, I assumed restrictions were lowered and didn't do my proper research prior to the flight. The customer service agent just checked me in and I had the choice of heading back home to pick up my vax card, or chance myself when entering The Philippines without proof of vaccination. Thailand dropped all restrictions from our previous visit Fall of last year. As a foreign traveler entering The Philippines, you're required to complete your eTravel registration to declare proof of vaccination, similar to when entering Japan when proof of vaccination was required. When complete, the website will issue a QR Code prior to entering the country. Service onboard was excellent. Available onboard entertainment on each seat back screens. Being seated in Economy Class, I noticed both lunch and dinner meals includes silverware. For long-haul flights, I'm content. Between Honolulu and Manila, onboard amenities were a pillow & blanket, toothbrush, earphones, two complimentary meals including a mid flight snack, alcohol including red or white wine, beer and other nonalcoholic beverages. Between Manila and Bangkok, it was almost the same. No amenity's were provided on a A321 and each seat back had no inflight screen monitors. But there was a dinner served on the flight going to BKK. Lunch on the return, and free inflight entertainment on each seatback furnished by an A330-300 aircraft. PAL occupies Terminals 1&2 at Manila International Airport(NAIA). When transferring between terminals, it was a bit of organized chaos. What the customer service agent in Honolulu advised us that our checked luggages would automatically transfer between MNL & BKK. Both us and a Thai passenger didn't have faith that our bags would make it through to our final destination. We all had to double check over and over. There was an airport transfer that would shuttle passengers from T1 to T2 without leaving the airport premises. You're escorted by a ticket agent to bypass immigration and customs, and it's required you pass through another security screening as if you are entering an airport for the first time, very similar to making a transit at Incheon Airport. It's not an huge airport like Haneda Airport, but every single person onboard and in NAIA are English friendly, and the most helpful and friendliest airline personnel I've ever come across! Maybe in the future if booked in Business Class, I'd update my review for later.

You don't really know till you try something yourself at least once right? This was the first time…read morewe flew a budget airline and it was quite the experience. We're thankful that at least they participated in TSA Pre out of HNL. Zipair is the budget airline for JAL. The reviews online were positive so we decided to give them a try on our trip to Japan. Reviews were mostly for the lay flat seating option though. Overall, they offered competitive prices but with all the upgrades and options you pay for, it ended up more than Hawaiian Airlines. I compared to my friend's airfare that he paid to go to Japan (he paid $60 or so less than us). If you fly with the lay flat seats then it probably is worth it but those seats were sold out when we booked. Check in does take awhile and I think it's because of the luggage restrictions. We saw many people shuffle around items so that their carry on luggage along with personal item is under 7kg at the check in counter. Yes, they weigh everything when you check in. If it's over, you will have to pay to check it in. There were so many carry on luggage at baggage claim. 7kg isn't much. I put my laptop, a watch, a few charging cables, a microfiber cloth and a box of cookies (omiyage) and it was 6.7kg. It was mostly empty so that's not much. If I put a jacket inside, it would have been over. The check in luggage can weigh up to 30kg. You will have to pay for the check in luggage vs the usual 2 complimentary check ins with international flights. It took a long time to get our luggage at luggage claim which was a little annoying. The plane itself is ok, nothing special. There are no screens at any seat so no entertainment unless you have a tablet or smartphone. Usually on international flights, you get unlimited drinks but you pay for each drink on Zipair. I spent a lot because I can't sleep on a plane very long and I was bored lol. Also, you usually get a complimentary meal on international flights but you have to purchase it with Zipair. Our upgraded package that we paid for included it and Mink said the food was ok. I don't eat airplane food so I can't really say anything. I did drink the bottled water that came with the meal though lol. Make sure to have your boarding pass available because they check it to see if you have a meal or not. Mink had a hard time locating ours and the flight attendant grabbed her property to look for it. That is unacceptable. It did take awhile for her to find it but she just woke up and was a little disoriented. The flight attendant had no right to touch our property without our consent to look for it. At least the seats had a power outlet to charge your devices. The flight attendants were all on the younger side and they offered ok service. Aside from one of them touching our property without consent, it was decent service. The person who checked us in at HNL was extremely friendly and the highlight of our experience with Zipair. Some things that weren't Zipair's fault was the kid behind us on the flight back. Imagine kicking your seat most of the flight back. That's on the parents. The girl next to me on the flight back couldn't stop throwing up. This was before we hit a lot of turbulence. She had to even take the bag from my seat to throw up in. There was also a lady that sat next to me which was the wrong seat then made a big deal about it someone else sitting in her seat in the row in front of us. To top it all off, the two planes colliding occurred while we were on the plane in Japan. It caused some delays but it made the trip memorable. Oh they land and depart from Terminal 1 in Narita for those who need to know for airport pickup and drop off. Would I fly them again? Probably not as a couple but possibly solo or on a boys trip since I don't need to pack a lot. Also, probably would want to fly with the lay flat seating option if available since our experience with economy was not so great. We had to toss new clothes, a pair of boots purchased right before that trip, food and miscellaneous beauty items so that we would make weight and close our check in luggage. What a waste of money. No time to get another luggage to put all the items we tossed and check that in. We already had limited space going to Japan but had zero space coming back. At least we had a life experience flying on a budget airline and they didn't lose our luggage. 2.5 stars

I purposely booked this flight because my cousin and his other half had specific dates on their flight itinerary using One World Alliance Airlines. JAL is a part of One World serving all of Japan, across Asia, USA and many destinations around the world with partners including Cathay Pacific. Booking online is easy. Online check-in wasn't successful, but with 3 hours check-in time, it was sufficient. Having Global Entry membership allows you to expedite security with TSA Precheck only in Honolulu or another US Airport. I must say, all of JAL's ground staff from check-in to boarding were exceptional, efficient and friendly! While seated in economy, service is fantastic. Free onboard entertainment on each seat back IFE. WiFi is only complimentary in Business and First Class. My other half had his customer and his partner sitting in Premium Economy on this flight segment as well as the connecting flight from HND-TSA. Between Honolulu and Haneda, onboard amenities were a pillow & blanket, earphones, eye shades, complimentary meals including a pre-arrival snack, complimentary alcohol including red or white wine, and beer. Fortunately this wasn't a completely full load of passengers, I was able to lay down in the middle row the whole entire flight! This flight departed from Gate D2, but decided to visit a Starbucks with air con as we waited for our flight to depart. Maybe in the future if we're booked in Business or Premium Economy I'd update my review for later.

On the most recent trip, I flew United in the F gate area, and the food options were mediocre at best. Two burger kings, panda express, CPK, and mainland style poke spot, and none of the options were great. I definitely feel like it's a miss opportunity to have more local spots be featured at the airport (SFO is a great example of this) so those are craving one last local meal can get a taste one last time. While expected, the food is grossly overpriced and food quality isn't the best. The gates definitely feel dark and dingy at times, but hopefully when the renovation project is completed, it comes out to be more of a more enjoyable airport experience that matches the magic of the Hawaiian islands!

Good variety for a quick bite before your flight. Heads up: It's very open-air, so it can get quite hot and humid. Dress light and stay hydrated. We're not high-maintenance travelers--we simply appreciate the opportunity to spend quality time together, and every stay here creates lasting memories. One of our favorite conveniences is the ABC Stores on the property. They're reasonably priced and have surprisingly good sushi and poke bowls for a quick meal. This summer visit was noticeably busier than our fall stays. The pools were definitely crowded, and the village was packed with tourists. While people say tourism is down, that certainly wasn't our experience--it felt very lively throughout our stay. Instead of driving, we used Lyft to visit the Waikīkī International Market Place, which ended up being much cheaper than paying for parking and was well worth it. During this trip, we stayed in the Kalia Tower and loved our room's view overlooking the ocean, lagoon, harbor, and even the marketplace below. My husband also enjoyed using the fitness center. He mentioned it was busiest in the mornings and mid-afternoons, so evenings seemed like the best time to work out. One of the highlights of our stay was our daily feathered visitor--a pigeon that stopped by to greet us every day, which became a fun little tradition. Overall, we had another wonderful stay and made more great family memories. We're already looking forward to coming back again next year!

There is quite a distance from the gates to baggage check. With the storm being fully active when we landed (late due to delay) with part of the airport passage ways being open air, there was flooding in certain areas between the gates and baggage claim. Our baggage came down rather quickly and we were greeted with Leis & a shuttle to our hotel. Though some of the areas were wet and flooded, this airport is really well run. Even upon our return to head back to the mainland, TSA lines were not outrageous and fairly quick to get through security. One thing we did notice when flying out of this airport was that all carry on baggage must go through an additional xray machine right before boarding, this is an agriculture check - which takes boarding the plane take slightly longer than other airports. Even with the added step getting through the airport was a breeze.

Hawaiian Airlines is the worst airline organization I have ever seen in my entire life. I will…read morestand by that statement until the day I die. I have traveled across the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. I have flown to more countries than I can count. I've gone through airports with insecure systems, airports where absolutely zero English was spoken, and somehow still managed to check my bags and get my items where they needed to go. This is not a personal opinion. This is a fact based on experience. Hawaiian Airlines is the most disorganized airline I have ever seen in my life, and honestly, I could see them going out of business. As you can see from the pictures, there is absolutely nobody assisting customers. I don't know if they are short-staffed because they refuse to hire people or refuse to pay decent wages, but nobody is there to help because the employees themselves appear overwhelmed with responsibility. Secondly, you have to wait in a completely separate line just to get your bags tagged. If the system fails and doesn't allow you to check in properly, you have to restart the entire process from the beginning. Then, after finally tagging your bags, there is another completely separate line just to drop the bags off. If something goes wrong again, you are sent all the way back to the beginning. It makes absolutely no sense. You know the system where you get your bag tag and boarding pass, then drop your bags? The system used by 99.9% of airlines? I assume Hawaiian Airlines leadership said, "I have an idea. I'm going to make this whole system complicated and confusing for my customers." There are multiple breakdowns in this entire process. You have five employees running back and forth trying to help move bags, but only one main line that splits into two checkpoints for customers trying to check in. Instead of having workers properly stationed at counters assisting customers with bag weighing and bag drop, they have thousands of kiosks with nobody available to help anyone use them. Customers are left standing around trying to figure out broken computer systems that do not scan properly, do not recognize confirmation codes, and constantly fail during check-in. It is a complete mess. I will say this: the flight attendants were very nice, the plane itself was wonderful, and the staff assisting once I finally made it to the front were helpful. But the entire experience beforehand was unnecessarily complicated for absolutely no reason. There are actual classes and professional systems dedicated to organization and customer flow, and Hawaiian Airlines would greatly benefit from them because they are completely failing in this aspect. Lastly, Hawaiian Airlines needs to get its shit together.
