Important tip: DO NOT let them bully you into checking your carry on bag. If you can fit it into…read morethe bag measuring device, then you're allowed to take it as a carry on. The bitter woman at the counter gave me a hard time about this. I refused to check my carry on because on an earlier flight, they lost my checked bag and I spent 3 days without essential items (which by the way you can make a claim for to get expensed for any purchases you had to make in the incident where they lose your luggage). This is the Spirit Airline of Europe. I experienced unprofessional staff at the check in counter on November 28 for my 10:25 AM flight from Rome (FCO) to Paris (ORY). The woman at the counter with caked on makeup and angry snarl got angry that she couldn't force us to check our carry on bag, and slammed my passport on the desk. I'm an avid traveler, and have never experienced such terrible behavior from check in personnel.

When we finally got on the plane they took us two hours away from where we were supposed to land the first time and said they would give us free train tickets to get to our Airbnb. There were no trains when we landed. The next public transportation wasn't until 6am. We landed at 11pm. So we had to spend extra money for a taxi (with 5 people+luggage we had to get a bigger taxi which cost even more) to take us to our Airbnb. I know Vueling has cheaper prices but do not take the risk. It will cost you just as much in the long run. They also don't have a customer support number, it is just voice recorded BS! This made me so upset during vacation and I wouldn't want the same for you.

Security took only a couple of minutes, and the process was incredibly efficient. I didn't have to remove electronics or liquids from my bag, and I even realized afterward that I had accidentally left a bottle of water inside. The screening technology seemed very advanced and helped keep things moving smoothly. The airport was clean, well organized, and easy to navigate. Overall, one of the most pleasant airport experiences I've had in Europe.

Good news...it offers modern security measures with facial and fingerprint recognition. Bad news... passport control is horrific!!! We waited over an hour in the passport control line as we weaved through a maze like little slow moving mice. This is the longest passport control line we have ever experienced. You would think with millions of visitors each year, this process would be much improved. Transportation links are good. Rome's Termini train station is a available as a means of transportation. Taxis and ride services are readily available, making arrivals and departures straightforward. Taxi rate was a fixed rate of $55 euros. Beware...The were airport scammers offering the same services for $80 euros plus.

Fortunately, I am a seasoned traveler and knew what terminal and gate to head to. Others who were less experienced might have had some trouble. I knew it was going to be bad when I got to go down an escalator to the waiting area. Oh, good. Another bus transfer stupid. What is it with MAJOR European airports and their insufficient quantity of jetbridges? This isn't some regional jet - me and nearly 150 fellow travelers got to board one of two buses for a swaying drive out to the stand where we climbed up a flight of stairs to our plane. WTF, Air France. Rome is allegedly one of Europe's greatest cities. Why doesn't Air France have enough jetbridges? On the positive side, I arrived in Paris safely. I had a sandwich and a drink on board (skip the red wine, it was awful) and my seat was reasonably comfortable for a 90 minute flight. [Review 12851 overall, 166 of 2020.]

The monster 767 appeared to be relatively new equipment as it was very noticeably clean. As we passed through First Class, we were quite impressed, but we weren't in it. The flight attendants were excellent. While we were fed multiple times during the flight (The food and drink carts came by so many times, we lost track.) the food was airline typical and awful. Ah, memories of exceptional eating in Italy/Sicily! But, as I always say, the most important was accomplished -- a smooth, save flight.

They then made an announcement that we were to get off the plane, but that a bus was waiting to take us to Florence. We all departed and got our bags. There were some workers who called all of us over, and lead us through the airport. They told us to wait there and the bus would pick us up in 30 minutes. We even got a boarding pass on the TAP app for the bus. Thirty minutes go by, then an hour. All of the workers at this point have left. So it is just our plane waiting in the airport for a bus that they told us was coming. Eventually an airport worker shows up and tells us there is no bus. He is not of much help due to the fact that he didn't work for air Portugal. It is around 2 am at this point. He told us we could get a hotel and that Air Portugal would PROBABLY reimburse us, but he did not know for sure since he didn't work for them. We ended up staying the whole night in the airport and rented a car the next morning to drive ourselves to Florence. We never received any communication from TAP Air Portugal regarding alternate transportation, accommodation, or what happened to the mysterious bus they told us was coming. I understand that they cannot control the weather. But to lie to an entire plane full of people and say that there is a bus waiting for us, lead us to wait for said bus, send us a new boarding pass, and then not have any communication when the bus never came is insane. We could have arranged alternate transportation ourselves earlier or at least went to a hotel at a decent hour (not 2 am when the airport worker finally came and found us).

My review covers both EWR and Fiumicino, Rome airports, therefore I posted this review to both…read moreUnited EWR and Fiumicino, Rome airports. I used to fly every 2 weeks from EWR, JFK or LGA on business before I moved from New Jersey to Delaware in 2021. These days I mostly fly from IAD or DCA. This time I decided to fly out of EWR to Athens, Greece (ATH) because of the nonstop flight to ATH and at a competitive price compared to one stop flights. My past experiences with one stop's has caused me to choose this UA124 787 nonstop from EWR to ATH and my return UA509 777 nonstop Rome, Italy (FCO) to EWR. This was my first time flying a newer 787, which is a very nice widebody aircraft. UA124 was full. The older 777 is larger and more comfortable compared to the slightly smaller, more energy efficient 787. UA124 was on schedule. UA124 flight attendants provided exceptional service. I had my usual premier platinum aisle seat with extra leg room because I am 6' 2" tall. UA124 departed and arrived on time. I took a taxi from ATH to my ATH Grand Hyatt hotel. I checked into my UA509 return flight from FCO to EWR on my mobile phone. Check in at FCO International Terminal 3 also went smoothly including my United Airline check in and bag drop. FCO TSA also went smoothly. FCO Terminal 3 is quite large with many high end duty free shops and the E gates. We had to take a tram to our E38 gate. About one hour prior to our departure UA509 changed our E gate, which was in the same E gate area. My UA509 departure was delayed by about 45 minutes due to the incoming aircraft delay. I was in Group 1 for boarding, but there were many other passengers who were also in Group 1 for boarding. Again I had my premier platinum aisle seat with no customer sitting next to me, which made me feel more comfortable. Again the UA509 flight attendants provided exceptional service during the flight. We picked up some time flying from FCO to EWR. Customs clearance was smooth at EWR. Baggage delivery took some time especially since it took some time for our luggage to arrive at the baggage carousel even though I am lifetime premier platinum. My roundtrip airfare was $1,814, which I thought was quite expensive. Overall I was happy with both my UA124, UA509 flights and my experiences at EWR, ATH and FCO. I rated United Airlines only three stars, since FCO did not have a United Club for us to enjoy while waiting for our delayed return flight at FCO to EWR. The newest United Club at EWR was very enjoyable. Also our return flight from FCO to EWR was delayed and our luggage arrived later than many others at EWR. More to come regarding our EWR Parking Spot self parking and our return home. Vacation is over.
