We booked the Pompeii and Positano tour from Rome. We knew it would be a lot packed into only one day, but it's all we had to work with and were glad we made this decision. Our tour guide Rob was fantastic! He was very knowledgable, humorous, attentive, and really kept us captivated throughout a very long day, while still giving us breaks to rest along the route. I wish Rob was my tour guide on all tours! The tour itself was great. I enjoyed the itinerary, and our local guide in Pompeii, Enzo, was also top notch and someone I'd recommend to others. Google maps led us astray in Positano and we were a few minutes late meeting back up with the group after our free time, but Rob was super understanding and sympathetic (we ended up climbing about a million stairs to get back instead of taking the "normal" route we should have taken). All in all I would recommend this tour to others. If you have limited time in Italy and are staying in Rome, this is a great way to add some must-see sites to your itinerary. read more

We signed up for the Amalfi Coast tour. However, when we arrived at the meeting location in Piazza del Popolo, we checked in with one of the guides and was informed that the tour we paid for was not the one that was taking place that day. All of the information on our end was correct, so the problem was not on us. It appeared that the tour information could vary based on where the tickets were purchased. Though the itinerary changed slightly and was not completely as expected, we were allowed to take the tour. There were a number of buses that were filled to capacity. We were happy that we were not turned away due to the online information discrepancy. Once everyone was checked in, we were separated into groups and escorted to the motor coach buses. The bus featured comfortable seating, air conditioning, and large windows. It was an overall comfortable experience. The tour leader set some housekeeping rules, such as everyone would keep their seats throughout the entire tour. There were other matters addressed at the beginning along with an outline of the tour that included factored in rest stops. As we traveled, the tour guide provided some historical information and set the tone for the tour. Francesa was an amazing tour guide. Daniele was an awesome bus driver. He had impeccable driving skills, especially as he navigated the large bus along the narrow, winding roads leading to Sorrento. The entire trip was comfortable. We had a few stops along the way before reaching the Amalfi Coast and two stops before returning to Rome. Aside from the initial ticket issues, t was absolutely one of the best bus tours that I have experienced. I liked that tour was a well-oiled machine from start to finish. We booked a Rome Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill Guided Tour with City Wonders. Our party of three appeared for the tour, checked in, and began the tour. During the tour, the guide acted carelessly at the Palatine Hill entrance, argued with guards, disappeared for approximately ten minutes behind a hedge for what appeared to be a personal phone call, and then left with only part of the group. He did not perform the customary head count before moving on. He walked away quickly into very dense crowds and took a series of turns on pathways that our party could not determine or follow. As a result, our party of three was left behind and did not receive the guided tour service we paid for. I called City Wonders to try to resolve the situation while it was occurring, but they provided no meaningful assistance. They failed to provide the paid guided service to our party and failed to assist after abandoning us. read more

Did the Pompeii Sorrento tour from Rome and it was brilliant. It is a long day. We were almost 14 hours with traffic but it does not seem like it as you have rest times. The tour was very well organized. There was no stress bout finding your group or understanding what was happening. Our tour guide Francesca was amazing. So good!!! The amount of free time in Sorrento was just enough. All and all, it was a really great day. If you have limited time in Italy it is a great way to see things quickly. Well worth it. read more

Any day-of problems will cost you dearly , the full cost. Although I was lost, I was in touch with the office and the tour guide, but when I arrived, the tour had started and the office would not notify the guide inside or anyone else to help. It cost me $128. Note that Viator and TripAdvisor were of no help either. The GPS is highly unreliable in Rome, where there are many unmarked streets and alleys that are really streets and paths. In my case, in the Borghese Gardens, paths were not on the GPS and thus the GPS did not help me get to the galleries. (some good intentioned tourist sent me in wrong directions, too ) $128 is a lot of money to lose when you have tried very hard for an hour to get there and have been in contact, and let them know how close you are. I will never book with city tours, Viator or TripAdvisor again a city that I have familiarity with. read more

Based on a recent trip to Rome and a two-tour, full day City Wonders experience, I am torn between 3 and 4 stars. My 4 star rating is for our first tour of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Forum. It was a thunderstormy day and we met in an open area above the subway that was a little tricky to find. The audio packets we used for the tour were great as we could talk around them and have some autonomy, (yes, disposable headphones so no gross re-sharing!) It is a well executed tour but be aware it has LOTS of walking and steps - the seniors in our group actually gave up at Palatine Hill. Our tour guide was a local archaeologist and incredibly personable and informative. I would do this tour again and recommend it to friends. My 3 star rating is the second tour we took that day which was the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and Saint Peter's Basilica and Square. We again met outside on a series of steps and it was a bit disorganized. The day we went was busy, the mic packs were definitely not as good, and our tour guide practically ran through the Vatican museums so the experience was hot, stressful and not very informative. The areas we went were still beautiful but I would not do this particular tour again. Overall, I think City Wonders has some good tours and tour guides, but do your research, read some reviews and focus on the highest tourist/line areas where using a tour gets you ahead of the mass entrance queues. read more

There was absolutely no communication prior to the morning of the tour, and when the tour operator finally called us 5 minutes after the tour was supposed to begin, we called him back immediately, but he didn't pick up his phone and the tour left without us. We are avid world travelers, and this is the most obnoxious and unethical tour company that I have ever dealt with! Avoid this company at all costs! They gave poor directions to the meeting point to be picked up for the tour. There are multiple locations within Paris with the same name in Apple Maps, and they provided no clarity or street intersections for the meeting point. When we realized we had arrived to the wrong location we texted the tour operator and asked what could we do. We received canned replies, likely from an offshored representative. We ended up missing the tour, which we had paid $350+. I called to discuss the issues and to request a refund. They offered to reschedule me for about $100 more. I asked for a refund. Bad experience with City Wonders Tours on our one chance to see the Vatican. We learned almost nothing in 3 tedious hours and would have had a better experience with a headset. The guide, who was otherwise a nice person, could not speak English well enough at all. I don't mean an accent -- did not have the words to make full sentences about what we were seeing. The guide over and over apologized about her English, and I think she was a good guide in other languages who was thrown into an English tour maybe due to short staffing. She wanted to tell us more but was constantly frustrated by her inability to find the words. We reached out to City Tours customer service twice after but they only gave us 15% max discount and a form letter about how they will use our feedback to improve. They talk a big talk about "tour quality" on their website but don't stand behind it. We are incredibly disappointed we chose City Wonders Tours and will never use again. read more

My family and I were running late to our Rome - Colosseum tour due to unforeseen circumstances of protests that morning in Rome both on the streets and for metro services. I called your service and mentioned we were running late, and I completely understand that the tour had to begin on time, however the meeting point guides made absolutely no effort to contact our tour guide in order for us to attempt to meet him potentially upon entry to the Colosseum. We were told they were "unable to call" the guide. We tried to find our guide at the entry of the Colosseum but did not have any luck. At the end of our own guided walk through the Colosseum we saw what looked like the description of our tour guide speaking to a small group. We confirmed that this was him and that this was the end of the tour. He was very apologetic and had mentioned that if someone had attempted to contact him, he would have been happy to try to set a meeting spot during the tour. So disappointing and unacceptable for City Wonders to make no attempt to contact the guide after we paid so much money for a semi-private tour. Horrible experience. Didn't get to go. We went to the address provided on our booking and on the app and it led to the middle of nowhere. A local Uber driver confirmed the address as well. My little family of 5 was in the Uber just after 6 am. We couldn't find the meeting location. Messaged them with NO help. They had no compassion, did not wait, and refused to refund $726. The bus left at 7 am. I totally understand them needing to be prompt with so many other passengers, but this was not our fault. The address was incorrect. Their staff was very unhelpful and uncompassionate. That is a ridiculous amount of money wasted. We have used them before but never will again. To top it off, it was my teenagers birthday and this was his only request. TOTALLY let down. read more

Review for The Colosseum: 7/7/19 Definitely worth the purchase! The normal line outside is insane. Looked to be at least 1 hr to get in through security. Tour guide: Sara G was our wonderful guide today. She was super friendly and upbeat. We learned so many new things from her. Bring money for gratuity. Start Time: Arrive 10-15 mins prior to tour in front of the colosseum. Check in with the blue shirt person holding the tablet. From there you'll be directed to tour guide. Tour guide will give you a sticker for your shirt and a headset with headphones. The headphones were terrific for the tour. It gets somewhat loud inside but the headphones allow you to be able to hear your guide. Attire: Wear tennis shoes! Tons of walking. There are stairs involved as well. Wear a hat & wear sunblock. Water- you can bring a bottle of water or buy one from one of the numerous peddlers outside. 2 bottles = 3 euros. read more

We took the "small group" Colosseum tour (not so "small -- 25 people -- but fine because you have an earful headset) and I gave this tour 5 stars because I think it's straight down the line of what you'd expect for the price, and Allesandra's energy is over the top. It was 90-95 degrees today and this woman does 2x tours day. It was certainly hard on us, and she made it seem effortless on her. As for the tour, it was as advertised. The Colosseum was packed with lines and tours out the gazoo, and we skipped all, except a short xray/security line. We got to see and do everything. Photo opps from all angles except we didn't buy the package to enter the gladiator's execution gate, so we didn't get to go on the arena floor. No big deal. Alessandra brings lots of energy and knowledge to the tour. The only thing I wish the tour provided was more information about how forward and "advanced" Roman political culture and society was...more about the evolution and influence of the Senate in a time of kingdoms, and maybe a little more $about how advanced the architecture and building of the Romans was, as exemplified by the ability to create a structure as impressive as the Colosseum in just 24 years. Maybe also a little more about what life was like for people back then and how the Romans tried to enhance life for their people. I guess I would have like to see some more discussion of the Roman advances like acquaducts, etc. to put the Colosseum in context -- for the kids. But that's also taught in schools...just my two cents. Despite the heat, we loved the tour and thought Allesandra was great and would buy again. We toured the Vatican Museums today with City Wonders. The guides' name was Sabina. She was a wonderful tour guide. She toured us through the museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. She was very professional, good humored and extremely knowledgeable. We learned so much more than if we would have just done it by ourselves. My favorite part is where she took us into a courtyard, just past the tour entrance. There was a beautiful view of the Saint Peter's basilica dome. I resent not taking a picture of it. While in the courtyard. Sabina spent a significant amount of time going through a breakdown of what we would see on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. (Since you have to remain silent in the chapel, she can't talk while we tour through the chapel.) So she reviewed what we would see, ahead of time. I came to the Sistine Chapel 25 years ago, but left with very little idea of the details of what I was looking at. Today, she really made it come alive. She was also able to point out specific pieces of art in the museums. For example, the statue of the death of Laucoön and specifics of the floor mosaics and wall tapestries. She was very kind and patient of everyone as well as being well-informed. read more

We had booked the (All Day Vatican and 4 Basilica Tour (8 hour tour)) We showed up at our scheduled time of 8am went through the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica (3.5 hours) the tour guide dismissed the group and we asked about the continuation of our tour we booked. She was confused and not sure what to do to help us. She acted like we were placed on the wrong tour. She tried to help us out and she reached someone and she said to go back to the meeting point and someone would be there at 1:30pm so we went there and waited for 2 hours. During that time we were emailing Viator trying to get some type of customer service support from City Wonders and had no luck. At 1:40pm we went back to our hotel and requested refund. At 2pm received call saying the tour guide is waiting (call came after we requested refund from Viator) the 2pm time was something new to us since that was never emailed/called to us with the separate check in time. We had went with what the tour guide had said.. The communication was horrible. City Wonders won't show us any proof of where they told us about the 2pm check in time. They failed and won't refund us our money. They will leave you stranded searching for answers trying to figure it out and refuse to be honest that they messed up. Horrible customer service. Viator needs to investigate City Wonders and maybe not associate with them. So beware booking with City Wonders they will rip you off. read more

My husband and I took the Tuscany day trip with 3 course lunch and wine tasting and everything was amazing!!! I hope if you decide to book you are blessed enough to have Enrica as your guide. She was so comforting, pleasant, and refreshing and you can tell she enjoys what she does. Enrica is knowledgeable and just a sweet soul overall. The scenery is picturesque, the food delicious, and the wine pours generous. There is some uphill walking but it's paced to please. You'll love the shopping and the wonderful village and history. We had an incredible experience with Georgia, Lorena & Alan. Georgia was bubbly, sweet and smart as a whip. My husband and I booked 2 tours at the Vatican with this company and we were not disappointed. I learned so much. Oscar was the absolute best. He has a degree and certification in art history and has lived in Rome over 20 years and was able to point out the history of various types of art, different techniques, how materials were acquired/ made, symbolism and various interesting stories throughout the tour. This review is for BARCELONA guided skip the line tour at Park Güell. I bought the tickets through Tripadvisor and trusted the many positive reviews. However, we showed up at the meeting point 30min beforehand and 2 other people showed up asking if we were there to wait for the City Wonder Tour guide. No guide showed up and we were unable to reach the company to ask for a refund. I feel bad having wasted precious vacation time . I will make sure to let this be know to help others from the disappointment we went through. The other 2 people wasted 1/2 their day on their very last vacation day..... We are extremely disappointed with the CityWonders Pompeii and Positano tour. Numerous circumstances have lead to this result. 1. We were notified at the start of the tour at 7:10am that we would not be going to Pompeii due to the national holiday; the guide stated the company was just notified that the archeological site was going to be closed due to the NATIONAL holiday. This is something that occurs each year and yet the company still booked a full tour without any mention of this at the time of booking or in any communication afterwards. -a notification should have been sent out to communicate this change in advance. We were not even noticed upon check-in, only right at the scheduled start. 2. There was one guide for 65+ people. The guide went back and forth between the TWO large tour buses. 3. First stop was Positano. We had 1 hour and 30 minutes to grab a drink, snack, and experience the city. We were advised not to eat in Positano and instead wait and eat in Sorrento where we would have more time and the prices would be lower. 4. We arrived in Sorrento at 3:15pm with scheduled departure at 5pm. Many restaurants were closed or closing at that hour so we decided to stay with the group for lunch. 5. We were advised to eat lunch at a specific restaurant that is a family owned, authentic Italian with delicious fire oven pizza where we would receive a "special" rate or we could order al carte 6. We opted for al carte. By the time we were served our food and ate, it was 4:15pm, not leaving any time to see the city. We expected to have limited time in the town, since we were eating lunch within that time window. We had to asked for our check 3 times and when we received the bill, were charged a €5 per person service fee which is not outlined on the menu nor communicated by the server or tour guide. Some of the other guests on the trip were charged €10 per person. 7. This entire trip took 16 hours. Of that, we had about 1 hr 45 min in Positano and 1 hour 45 min in Sorrento. The entirety of the time in Sorrento was spent in the recommended restaurant. This was more of an over priced, large group shuttle service than a tour. Other than a few facts listed off during the ride, there was nothing that could really be described as a "tour". This is the worst group tour I have ever experienced. Book a private taxi instead! read more
