It was originally brought to Deltronics for these reasons. . The FM radio signal stopped working after a few seconds . The right speaker was popping After I brought the stereo receiver home these are some of the problems I found. . the FM radio signal appears to be working . am/fm signal strength light is burned out or not working . right audio speaker doesn't work anymore . I switched the left and right wires to see if the right would work. The result was the audio still came out of the left speaker and when I turned the balance knob to the left it went silent I turned the balance knob to the right and there was audio . CD player is plugged into "Tape 1" tape 1 button - only noise comes out of the speaker. should be playing the CD tape 2 button - only noise comes out of the speaker. should be silent since nothing is plugged in phono button - plays the CD with static and scratchy. should be silent since nothing is plugged in The tech who worked on the unit is in incompetent. I asked for a refund. Deltronics responed that I should bring the unit back so they can correct the issues. That comment is laughable. I took the unit to a different vendor who was able to correct all issues except the fm preset. The unit is old and the part isn't manufactured anymore. read more

I'm not a serious vintage audiophile, just a guy who thinks music sounds better on the quality old stuff. Bought a 50 YO Scott receiver for next to nothing knowing it would need a complete tuneup. Deltronics charges a $75 upfront diagnostic fee that converts to a deposit if you approve the work. They called within a week to go ahead & order parts with a balance quote of $175. It was ready for pickup a month after drop off. Sounds plenty good to me & I'd do repeat business. read more

I had an amazing experience. I had my first NAD integrated amp with some issues. Not only did they restore it, but when I brought it home and I found that a channel was cutting out, they took it back and made sure to trouble shoot the problem until it was fully restored. I brought them a 40+ year old Mitsubishi LT-22 linear tracking turntable that stopped tracking after a move. I tried a couple of other turntables on the market, but none of them had the features that the LT had, for under $900. I wasn't expecting a fix, since it is so old, but if it was fixable, I was prepared to spend a few hundred to do it. They fixed it for just over $250, and did so under the time frame quoted. I brought my receiver to Deltronics in 2014/15 to have a dirty switches/signal/processor issue resolved. Things were improved for a bit but the same spotty sound issues persisted after a while. I never brought it back again because I was just tired of the hassle and was already burned out from the futility of working with Electronic Engineers in Portage Park. It certainly worked out for both shops getting paid for ultimately nothing. It's a pity introverted music lovers don't demand better and these shops are allowed to stay in business fleecing customers. I've also recently learned from the folks at Stereo Rehab (highly rated on this site) that shoddy electronics repair work is pretty commonplace. Another winner! Has been about 7 months since my last visit, This time was to have my Pioneer SA-9500 gone through and brought back up to specifications. Again this took a few tries to get everything done and yes I personally have no issues when trying to troubleshoot a erratic issue and a unit has to be brought back in. All was done in a timely manner, most important was covered under there 90 day warranty, plus Mike the owner (honest guy) and great to deal with personally tackled the repair. Cant say enough and no I'm not a relative ;-) but another satisfied customer. As always this shop is my go to when I need repairs! Again this shop does charge a $75 inspection fee up front and if you decide to have a item repaired that $75 is applied to the repair cost more then fair .......... read more

I brought in a vintage Ampeg bass combo amp with a fuzzy distortion sound in the power section. This is an unusual amp that as it turns out is a one of kind prototype build of an already rare amp made in the late 80's and early 90's. So the wattage and specifications are slightly different from the available info in the internet. They worked on it and I picked up, but when I got it home it still had the same issue. I called Deltronics back to let them know it was not fixed. They were happy to take a second look, but since I had knee surgery the day after I picked it up, I told them I could not bring it back in for several weeks. They graciously arranged for an employee to come pick it up from my house. Because it is such an unusual amp, It took a while for them to get it repaired, but a few weeks later I couldn't be more pleased. The amp sounds fantastic, and the staff at Deltronics went above and beyond to make me happy. I would highly recommend this unique shop. read more

Yeah they fixed by Yamaha keyboard. I expect that. It's like going to the KFC and giving a high rating because you received some chicken (okay maybe bad example). Anyway, their business practice and attitude were appalling such that I would seek other options for future business. I called in because my Yamaha digital piano had some sticking keys. They said, "Oh, it could be under warranty. Bring it in to us, WE'LL call Yamaha for you and see if they will ship a new set of keys. You would only have to pay labor -- $150-200.) I thought it was okay but I decided that I would call Yamaha myself. They were very helpful on the phone and it turns out -- oh yeah -- Yamaha pays for parts AND labor. So I asked them to arrange the replacement with Deltronics since Deltronics seemed happy to take advantage of me in that respect. So I haul it in one day. Go pick it up a few days later. Get it home and there is a flagrantly sticking key. Awesome. Call and leave a message Tuesday night that I was unhappy. No response. Called again Friday and got accused of banging it on something. Brought it in, condescending staff again accusing me of breaking it. They made good on things but not without a lot of hassle, lost trust, and a one star on Yelp. read more

I recently brought my Marantz 2250 into Deltronics for repair; I was experiencing random pops and clicks and it needed to be fixed once and for all. Up to this point I had taken it to three well known Chicago repair men to no avail. It is also worth mentioning I take excellent care of my audio equipment, I use Caig Deoxit and such. Anyway, I was told that a couple of my filter caps had worn out and they needed to be replaced. The price I was quoted, $400. So I dropped the receiver off and hoped for the best. In a few weeks I got a phone call from Jim, the technician that worked on the receiver, and he told me the receiver was ready to be picked up, AND the cost was $100 less than the originally quoted price, which is always a huge bonus. In the end, the work he did was phenomenal!! I can't say enough about his skill and his professionalism. The Marantz sounds fantastic, A++++++ .... I will definitely recommend him to my friends. I have been here for service three different times, every time for different equipment. The first time I had them set up a guitar and they were solid on that. Pretty basic work. The second time I had to drop off a guitar amp that had a terrible screeching noise at higher volumes with heavy gain. Over the course of THREE MONTHS I was called to pick this amp up twice, both times only to find out that nothing is fixed whatsoever. The tech kept swearing up and down that he tested the tubes and that wasn't the problem. I finally said screw it and took it to Pat at Chicago Fret Works, only to have him replace a tube and have it in perfect condition in 2 days. 2 days!!!! The third time i was lucky enough not to deal with the overly apologetic tech and apathetic receptionist because my friend took my Yamaha powered PA mixer for me. They took another 2 1/2 MONTHS to fix it, most of that time spent claiming that "the part will be here in a week or two". If you are an active musician who needs his/her gear quickly and with no hassle, don't come here. All you will get is canceled shows and a tech who forgets about you once you're out the door. read more

If I could bump this up to 2.5, I would. The whole experience was very 50/50. I took two CDJ-800 units in here for repair.. nothing bizarre. On one hand, the technician I talked to was friendly on the phone, straight-up with his quotes, and the work seems totally sound so far. On the other hand, the turnaround time on both were terrible. They both went in 10/22.. the first took almost 1 month, but the second wasn't ready until the beginning part of December. I was told two separate times on the phone that the part was ordered and they were waiting for it to arrive.. and then, the part was ordered and waiting to arrive.. again. It really, really felt like they were just buying time. I also don't get how they didn't have parts available in-shop for ridiculously-common , industry-standard CD decks that have been around since 2003.. but maybe that's normal. The opinions from friends about their service also were totally split down the middle, soooo obviously my experience wasn't totally unique. read more

Deltronics did it again. They repaired a $35,000 video matrix in 24hrs for me and did it under the quoted price. I can't think of another shop that can even come close to that and I have used all repair shops in the Chicagoland area. Don't listen to some dbag dj with his crappy jbl speakers he keeps blowing. If you fry a woofer nobody will warranty it. How bout you use the meters on your mixer. The best of the best. read more

I had Deltronics service my turn-table, where they replaced the strobe light, and an Aiwa music system where they replaced the cassette belts and CD-player belts. I own a lot of electronics that get a lot of use and, well, they break. I've accepted that. I used to bring all of my broken gear to Deltronics, but the turnaround time started to get too long for me, so I found other places for some things. Nevertheless, Deltronics has always done a quality job and the staff are always professional and straight forward. My last two visits, however, have been outstanding. I brought in a bass amp and they fixed it and turned it around in just a couple days. Then I brought in a power supply for my mixing console. I called after hours, about 7 PM, and they answered the phone. I explained that I really needed it back as soon as humanly possible and said they'd wait for me so I could bring it in that night. I rushed it over and sure enough, they got it on the bench that night and I had a working power supply before 6 PM the next day. Incredible. I had a long weekend of recording coming up and they saved my ------ ------- ---. Plus, it is running cooler and quieter than it ever has. The repair cost was a little more than I hoped it would be, but for the speed that they got it done, I can't complain. You get what you pay for! That power supply is the heart of my system and everyday without it would have been a loss of hundreds of dollars. I can't thank them enough! read more

It was a beautiful summer afternoon - sometime in July I think? I schlep my receiver over to Deltronics after a bad lightning storm hoping they can rescue it from mother nature's wrath. Now I'm a patient guy. I know these things take time... but Deltronics pushed me to my limit. I found out after many phone calls (mostly me calling them) that they were having trouble fixing it. It was one thing... then another. They said they would call me the next week to let me know the status, but never would. This went on until October (4 months later) when they eventually gave up. I'm fine that they couldn't fix it, but come on. If you can't fix it after a month give it up or find some better techs. read more

I was told that Deltronics was pretty much the only game in town for synthesizer repair, but warned that the owner/operator was "prickly". I brought in an old Kawaii that mostly works but has a few dying keys I had hoped to fix. After about a month of not hearing anything, I called to check in. The verbatim exchange: Me: "Hi, just checking on my keyboard. Have you had a chance to look at it?" Repair guy: "No." (long silence) Me: "Okay, do you know roughly when it will be ready?" Repair guy (irritated): "No, I don't. I have no idea when it will be ready. I'll call you." I was ticked off, but I had been warned. I let it slide. Two months later I began to lose my patience. I called back. This time he listed a bunch of techno jargon regarding my keyboard's problem and said he "couldn't figure it out." Fair enough. I asked him if he threw in the towel, because if so, I'd like to come and pick it up. He replied, "Nothing's unfixable. It's just a matter of having the time to work on it." Okay, so...? Life got busy and four months went by before I called again. Nope, still not ready. I told him I'm picking it up anyway. When I arrived, he got my keyboard out for me right away. He seemed a bit sheepish and apologetic, but stopped short of actually apologizing. I asked him how much time he thought he had put into it over the past 6 months. He said about 6 hours. (I'm pretty sure he exaggerated.) He said he wasn't able to get to it because he was busy "putting out fires" (?) during the half year he had it in his possession, but that I was welcome to bring it back. I asked if he thinks his schedule will free up in the months ahead so he could work on it and he shrugged. Why should I bring it back if it's going to sit on a shelf for another six months? I brought Deltronics my Audio Technica LP 120 for some modifications I wanted done. I had a few other shops suggest I buy a higher quality turntable. Cool suggestion but I already invested enough in this thing that I thought it'd be worth to try a few upgrade modifications suggested on the internet. I was not confident in my ability to do it so I reached out to Deltronics. They were more than willing to help me out and were very helpful. They didn't judge me for not having a "high end turntable" they just did with what I wanted. The interaction across the board was great. The job was done quicker & cheaper than I expected and I couldn't be happier with their work. This place is great! Also snagged an Illinois Entertainer mag. Nice little bonus. read more

Long wait times, took about a month to get my item repaired, Poor customer service with a " if you don't like it, take it somewhere else or fix it yourself attitude." Overpriced and not very welcoming to customers. The young lady is rude, doesn't seem to like being there much and it's emitted through her approach. I brought a vintage sampler in for repair. It's a unit that music producers have famously CHAMPIONED for over 20 years. I use it to add dirt/grit to Hip-Hop drums. Within 30 seconds of setting the unit on the table, the owner/employee said that it is a "poor choice" of a unit and that "I'm stupid" to use it how I do. I really really wish I was making this up... Not only was this completely uncalled for, but I'm a professional recording engineer. The studio I work for has a combined 25+ Grammys on the shelf and I walk past walls of platinum plaques every time I need to take a piss. I didn't ask for the criticism of a washed up VCR repairman... Needless to say, I walked away from this pretentious piece of s*** and couldn't for the life of me recommend this store. read more

My experience went like this I mailed my Pioneer Djm 900 Nexus2 , awith a new fader plate ,and a new upper panel face plate in because there was a stripped screw on the fader plate. So I didn't install the fader plate. I didn't want to damage this mixer because it worked perfectly. The up faders and cross fader weren't as smooth as they should be so I thought a good cleaning inside and out, or replacement wherever needed would be the order of the day. Cost and time were not a issue for me within reason. I chose Deltronics because they are listed by Pioneer DJ's website as the closest Pioneer Dj certified service center. I live in the suburbs of Milwaukee so we are talking 2 to 2 1/2 hours drive at most. I also chose Deltronics because I just had the notion that if you are a Pioneer Dj certified service center in arguably the greatest DJ Producing City in the world that they would know their way around the worlds Club standard mixer Djm900 n2! I only mention all of these points because most people would chalk up all the negative reviews Deltronics have to people being haters and or grouchy types ,& I'm neither. I had a pretty much open wallet attitude to the guy doing the work , as well as a easy going attitude. I have a back up mixer , so I didn't sweat them because I just wanted this fine piece of equipment looking as nice as it sounds and operates. I'm going to get this review wrapped up. It took 3 months The new clear plastic lens cover a wanted installed into the new face had scratches all over it. They sent back a battered and cut power cable. I sent them a brand new one I had just bought! The headphone Que button stays stuck in the on and or off position unless you use your fingernail to pop it back into position. They charged me $275.00 , plus the $75.00 down and kept my mixer for 3 months ,and didn't bother to check all the buttons to make sure that they properly aligned the little springs that are under each of these important buttons. The headphone que button is probably the most obvious button. Didn't even give it a listen in the headphones with cue and without ? This would have done three important things. 1.) checked sound 2.) Checked button function & 3.) made sure que switch was happening in the head phone. This is the most important functionn as a "dj" mixer. I know that Deltronics offers 90 day warenty fix it , but would you send it back ? The shipping costed me an arm and a leg. I'm. not even going to bring this to Deltronics attention. I wanted to have been able to say I added a new tool to my arsenal. A great repair shop for future issues , but sadly I can't tell that story with an epic review. This review is a word of caution. The old saying "You get what you pay for". Not true!!! Money was no object. When that's the story you have to ask your self , are these guys even qualified ? I say no. No way. One positive note , they aren't rude. They are very to the point and direct. Since I got my mixer back I'll not give them one star. The service was quick and honest. The guy told me that it was not going to be worth it for him to fix it. I brought in a multitrack open reel tascam TRS-8 to be cleaned and to have a belt replaced. To make a long and tiring story short they cleaned me out and Not the recorder. They did replace the belt as I originally asked. They also replaced one of the rollers. These parts together usually costs 5 or 10 dollars. After receiving the machine back through their extremely poor customer service, I brought it home and it still did not work properly. I was too afraid to take it back because these people can drive a customer to do something they would not normally do. So if you are a masochist and like to pay top dollar for poor service on your electronics, go there, Deltronics is ready to clean your bank account while pretending to work on your gear. I ended up working with a technician over the phone to repair my machine. No stars should be the rating. read more

I have had mixed experiences with this place. Every time I've taken bass amps for them to fix, they take more than 2 months to fix it, then complain and yell at me when I dont come pick it up right away. They dont follow instructions and the girl who answers the phone is not very helpful at all. She doesn't try to help solve problems, she never has any information. I've never gotten any deals from them, and I always bring my bass heads to them. I honestly think that they rent out people's equipment that they're fixing. Maybe if I wasnt a woman or wasnt black, they'd be more helpful to me or give me better customer service. Either way, I'm not interested in using them ever again. read more
