Today I got a call back for a price quote to fix it up. The quote was very reasonable, and I OK'd it. Also, they said it would be done today. Well this story has a happy ending though it took awhile to get there. My NAD C545bee developed a problem with the front panel buttons (seems I am not the only one). Took it into Deltronics and it took weeks to get it back. When unpacked I noticed the once new face plate had nicks and other blemishes. Needless to say I was disappointed. I pointed this out to Mike Del Valle the owner and also conveyed my belief that the face plate should be replaced. To his credit Mr Del Valle requested I drop off the unit and the faceplate would be replaced. Turn around this time was much faster and now the units appearance is as it was prior to my bringing it in. How my situation was addressed left me with an overall positive impression. It is when things go wrong that you find out how important customer service is to a business. read more

This review is for their Woodridge location. It's a true letdown when a recommended business disappoints before even doing any work. The owner - Mike - promised he'd work on my component while I wait and also provide before and after measurements. When I got some time cleared out from work to be there (they are only open Mon-Fri) - which I won't be able to do again until the fall or later - and called to make arrangements, he wasn't even willing to work on it while I wait anymore. "You must have misunderstood." I didn't ask about measurements anymore because no need, thanks. Not recommended. I've seen places that honor their word, and this is not one of them. Our pair of McIntosh M-30s are singing in unison now, because of the knowledgeable, capable and fastidious folks at Deltronics. These two tube amps were built mid-century and they've never sounded better! Tube gear that old can be easy to get wrong, but the Deltronics techs knew to "pair" the power tubes; repair - meaning rebuild essentially - the bias in one; test, clean and replace the other tubes and even replace the power cords (!) which was a nice added surprise. They really sing. These amps have been tested and maintained in some good shops from DC to San Fran, but it's Deltronics for us from now on. No need to check anywhere else. Totally horrible experience.. Bought in my Peavey Max 115 Bass amp.. No sound at all. Cost me 75 to evaluate ..was told another 75 to replace the power board.. OK ..After a month, I called , and called again , Finally got a call back.. Well , Jethro says , I dun tried to fix it by replacing a capacitor.. That didn't work .. You need a new power board . This will cost you $ 169. What happened to the 75 I was told would be the cost.. Well, I was told ,I put a lot of time into this, and I swear this is true, You Should Have Thought Of That Before You Bought A Cheap This Amp From China.. he says .. Deltronics was as good as it gets regarding the handling of my requests and subsequent repairs of my vintage JBL and Harmon Kardon. Their advise is very honest. They repaired a badly damaged Harmon Kardon Citation 16A Amp and Citation 17 Pre-Amp to like new. These are very low distortion items and they were brought back to factory specs. They did not recommend costly and abusive upgrades as some others have and they discouraged me from my requests to have unnesasary requests performed on my speakers. On 7/20/09 I visited this place before and received a quick turn-around on my equipment but I left there thinking that the desk clerk was terribly unfriendly. Since it was my first experience there I just focused on the quick-turn around service. Today however, I went in and carried a speaker, woofer, and mixer all in from my car and all very heavy items. Again, the clerk was without greeting and asked for my model number on the woofer and I said I did not know ut they should have records. she said she was not able to obtain the information from scratch so I gave her my info again. She said it would be $20 per item to look at which I agree to and so she charged my card and pre-pared the receipt. Before handing me the receipt she said "now the technician is on vacation and probably won't be back until Monday which would be a week from now. I asked her why didn't she warn me before I dragged everything in and wrote up the ticket and you only have one tech to look at these. Yes sehe replied and she said we'll you have have your money back if you want. I said hell yes and I wish you would have told me that before we went through all of this. I was so pissed I uttered a few unkind words and they threaten to call the police on me without any threat from me. I told them that I had just remarked how I liked their service but that this was unfair to the customer and they should know that. I will never ever go their again. I was so mad that it almost ruined my whole day until I realized that this is surely not the first time this kind of service has be reported. read more

Don't do business with them!! Took a power amp in for repairs. After two weeks without hearing from them I called several times before finally getting through to them to approve the repair. After another 7 weeks I called them at which point they tried to lie to me about when I approved the repair to give them more time. I took back the amp without any repairs done to save myself a inevitable disaster. Seems they are plenty happy to take a down payment and not do any work. Took it to a real shop. Repair went smoothly as it should have. Just look at all the other complaints and know somethings wrong. read more

I took my Sony Mini-Disc Component system to Delltronics a few years ago. The CD changer got jammed so I wanted them to open it up and hopefully fix it. All of the other testaments I've read are accurate with my experience. The people (or woman in particular) at the front desk are not friendly or welcoming. They kinda look like uneducated hillbillies in fact. They look dishonest, too. I can say with certainty that they totally banged and scratched up the front face of component system. It had huge scratch marks that I have to look at to this day. I peered into the backroom and it appears they just shove everything onto a hard and narrow book shelf. Additionally, I have reason to believe they are totally dishonest in their practice, just so they can make more money. When I picked up the system, they said a piece of tape on the CD caused the changer to jam... the problem sounded simple enough, right? So, I then asked them what justified the $100+ charge if it was such a simple fix and the woman said they had to replace a part, which was ordered directly from Sony. I didn't buy this story for a split second. It was a total lie. There was no receipt or documentation to prove that in fact they ordered the part from Sony or any evidence that a piece was broken and needed to be replaced. I argued with her for a bit, but then finally just left the store with my system. I could have pressed further and nailed them down. Why didn't I? **Oh yeah, it took like 3 weeks to finally call me back and say it's ready. Too long. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT. ***** Also, all the 5 star reviews you see on YELP for Deltronics.. probably they or their friends wrote it for them to offset the 1/2 star ratings. got a quote for a synth mod (ad CV gate). the guy said it would take 1 to 2 weeks. after 3 i called back and they hadn't looked at it yet but had ordered the parts. at week 6 got a call saying they wouldn't be able to do the mod! so they ordered the parts and then decided the mod was too difficult? 6 weeks and my $20 for an estimate gone. i could have sent the synth somewhere else if i wasn't misled. Just got it home and found a function on the ADSR no longer works! Good lord, stay away from this place, you're putting valuable gear in incompetent hands. p.s. this is the second time i've been quoted a repair time by these guys and had them go way way over. thought it may have been a fluke the first time, guess it wasn't. i'll never return and tell everyone i know to stay away. read more

Probably the worst service experience that I can recall. They banged up my beautiful vintage amplifier, I think they dropped the cabinet while they had it apart. When I pointed this out they denied doing it. I took it home and the electronic "fix" unfixed itself hours later so I had to bring it back to them. This is where is gets ridiculous... I picked it up and it had been damaged AGAIN! I couldn't believe it. And in order to right this wrong, they had (without my permission) put some wood putty in the places where they had smashed or chipped the veneer. It looked laughably bad so I asked for some money to have proper repairs made, but I've gotten nothing but frustration. He told me "sometimes these things happen". Zero stars!!!!!!!!!! Brought my synth in March 1 for a checkup. The next day they called and said there was nothing obvious wrong with it and all it needed was calibration and cleaning. It'll cost $150 and should be done in a week or two. Good. Three weeks go by and no phone calls. So I called and was told they were wrapping it up and I can come in the next day to pick it up. Great. When I show up the next day at 5pm they tell me it's not ready, but it should be the following week. They'll definitely call when it's done. Another two weeks go by, no calls. I call back and tell them I have a show coming up the week after and definitely need the synth by then. No problem. It'll be done by the end of the week. No phone call. I call back Monday and am told they are doing some final tests to make sure the first oscillator isn't drifting. They'll have it done by the end of the day Tuesday since my show is on Wed. Two weeks go by. No phone calls. I call back and am told the oscillator is still drifting. What have they been doing for the past six weeks?! A week later I call back and am told that Ron will give me a final update later in the afternoon, after he finishes his lunch and has one more look at the synth. Ron calls at 5.30 and tells me he's on the way to RadioShack to pick up capacitors. The following week, full TWO MONTHS after I brought the synth in for a routine checkup, they call and tell me it's ready. All excited I walk in the next day and am told it's going to cost more than the initially quoted $150. Not a word of apology, no attempt to explain what had happened or make up for their unbelievably disrespectfull business practice. Nothing. I said all I am paying is $150. They said OK, it's going to be $152 with tax. ?!?!?!?!?!?! I put $100 on the counter (I'd already paid $50 at the beginning as a deposit) and said this is all I have. The receptionist made a snide comment about losing money and I walked out with my synth. Never, ever, am I going to go back and I am making sure none of my friends do either. So I got my turntable RCA's and ground wires "fixed" at another spot in Jefferson Park. Then for years I had inconsistent issues with signal still!! I ended up updating all my equipment thinking its not the turntables since I had it fixed already. I finally gave in and called this Deltronics who did a good job on my Pioneer mixer before. Jim told me a bunch of other awesome fine detail knowledge (the best spray for circuits) and then immediately started trusting him to check my turntables. They did ending up being repaired wrong by the first spot. After Jim's repair, I now have flawless signal flow and high end Mogami (brand) RCA's. Skilled labor isn't cheap and cheap labor isn't skilled. read more

First off, I signed up on yelp just to write this review in the hopes of preventing other people from going through my terrible experience with this company. Seeming like a reputable establishment, I entrusted them with my studio monitors which needed a minor repair. I told them I needed the monitors fixed within a month and a half since I was moving across country. They assured me that it would be fixed in just over a week. A week and a half passed with no call. I called to check and they said that the original part was no longer manufactured but that a replacement could be ordered, but it would cost more. I bit the bullet and said ok and asked AGAIN if it would be completed in time. They assured me it would. A week passed with no call. Finally, after two weeks, they called to say the part was on back order and that they couldn't fix it in time. At this point, I said ok figuring my parents could somehow ship the speakers to me and that getting it fixed was the point. After another week and a half, they called me to tell me that JBL would not ship the part after all and that I had to pick up the monitors. THIS WAS ONE DAY BEFORE MY MOVE. When I came into their store to ask questions about how this whole mess took 4 weeks to figure out, I was met with a rude, defensive, and aggressive employee named Jon. He was by far the most rude person I have ever done business with and was short with both myself and my fiance. He denied all culpability, slammed my credit card down angrily, and threw my receipt for the refund at me. So, I'm left with broken monitors, a $20 "service" charge for absolutely nothing, and a bad taste from this whole experience. I will never do business with this place again and I strongly advise others against doing so as well. read more

if you like and or value your amp, you will never come here. i have always had to take my amp back after the first repair during their warranty period to have it fixed again. the last round went back 3 times and the repair lasted a week and a half. i never had to have an amp repaired before and they were the first people to pop up on google when i was looking. check out Schroeder guitar & Amp repair or Chicago guitar and amplifier first. i really have no idea how this outfit stays in business. read more

The first time I walked into deltronics some guy was being a total dick to a customer and it seemed very unprofessional. However, I decided to stay because the guys at guitar center recommended deltronics. BAD MOVE. It has been nearly 3 weeks since I brought the keyboard in to replace a midi to usb port (it's really a simple fix) and I still haven't gotten it back. Also, they called and told me it would be $150 to fix it (the part costs maybe $2.50) and that one of the encoders was broken. Interesting since THE ENCODER WORKED WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN! I started asking her about it and she said not only did it come in broken (lie #1), but in order for the keyboard to work it needed the encoder (lie #2). Out of utter fear they were going to keep destroying my keyboard if I didn't pay them, I caved. All I can say is NEVER EVER EVER GO HERE, especially if you don't know a lot about the piece of equipment you need fixed because they will try to screw you. read more

I bought a Sony DVD/CD 400 disc changer on Ebay because the changers have been discontinued, the seller did not test eqpt before selling the item and it didn't come w/remote control. I purchased a remote on Ebay for $80. Before i returned the item for a refund, the seller offered to refund $120 due to laser optic malfunction. I contacted Deltronics to see if they could repair it before I accepted the refund and keep the player. Deltronics technician assured me he could repair it for the $120. Took over 3 months and $200 to repair and never received a single update from them. When I picked the player up, they lost my remote. I called today for status, hoping it wouldn't take another 3 months(I WAS friendly on phone) on the remote and was told in a less than thrilled tone that one will be ordered from Sony this week-end. It's a shame because I used them in the past and they were great and received great reviews here at the time I checked. read more

In the past I had efficient service from Deltronics when it repaired Bose headphone cords. I brought in an old Philco tube radio and Deltronics, to its credit, told me straight out it wasn't worth fixing. But most recently l brought in another old radio and invested a bunch of money in getting it fixed, which, of course, meant getting it to operate so that its sound was decent. I had to make a few phone calls to get them to complete the job, which completion was unreasonably delayed. I picked up the radio and took it home, and it initially sounded like crap, so I called and Deltronics recommended I take it upstairs from the basement for better reception. I did that and got better reception but the sound is still crap. One AM radio station is sort of OK. FM and short wave are noise. I should have been alerted to the very poor quality before I picked it up, and I wonder what if any testing was done to assure the sound was OK. read more
