Was looking for a place for pho for a late lunch. From the reviews Dem Hai Dang looked like it would be a good option. Ordered up a large rare beef and tendon pho. The soup came out in a somewhat small metal bowl which in my opinion wouldn't be a large order anywhere else. I tasted the broth and found it to be quite lackluster without much fragrance or beef flavor. Tried the Vietnamese spring roll and although it was nice and crispy on the outside, the filling didn't have much flavour as it was pretty much just vermicelli inside without any pork, shrimp, or mushroom. Tried the dipping sauce and it didn't taste much of anything either. I've never seen a dipping sauce for Vietnamese spring rolls that was orange (what's up with that). Anyway wasn't to my liking and wouldn't likely return. There has to be better options on the London area for good pho. read more

Food: You cannot go wrong with pho here. I opted to try something different and got one of their noodle soups that has a thumbs up icon next to it called bún cha cá nuoc lèo (Vietnamese noodle soup with fish cakes). Size small is $9.95, I personally found the portion appropriate. The soup to me was hearty for a Vietnamese soup, and I would order this again. Shakes are subject to availability, if the fruit they have is no good, they will not make it. The durian shake tasted great, I thought it was much better than the mung bean shake. Service & atmosphere: Standard Vietnamese restaurant service and table layout, not sure how else to describe it. Pricing: Not too expensive, one to two dollar signs. read more

I was recommended this place by someone who was Vietnamese and said this was the best place in town. Found the portions smaller than other Vietnamese places in the area like Pho Lee or Thuan Thanh. Felt like the menu was limited in options in comparison as well. The vermicelli bowl I got was really tasty though. And the drinks were tasty & well priced -- all around or under 4$. read more

I thought the decor was just fine and typical of the genre. The food.....was.......amazing! The broth in my Pho was the best I have ever had anywhere, and I have had Pho in multiple cities. When came first dUring rush hour and it was a bit of wait. We decided to go to the Wal-Mart next door to do some shopping. After the shopping we were seated right away. We ordered bbq beef wrapped in lemon grass, shrimp and pork fresh roll, bbq pork Vermiccelli, and beef and teens on pho. The appetizer came after the pho bowl. Vermicellii bowl came last. The pho was good the broth was tasty. The vermicelli bowl was as expected. The fresh roll is good too. The beef wrap is a unique taste I don't dislike it oR like it. I was very skeptical going into this restaurant as the atmosphere is a bit cheesy (the walls are covered in mirrors), but the food is amazing. I got the pho and BBQ pork on different visits, and both were excellent. The pho is meaty, oily and salty in the best possible way and has a ton of flavor. The condensed milk coffee was delicious and obviously very high quality. The waiter is very helpful, sweet, and didn't seem to judge me at all for my silly American questions about the food. It was very reasonably priced at only $30 for two people to get dinner. All in all you really can't go wrong with this place and I highly recommend it for authentic Vietnamese. read more

This place has been here forever so I thought I'd give it a try. As soon as I entered it reminded me of the old TK (Thuan Kieu) on Huron and Sanford, nostalgia absolutely loved it. The foods awesome tried the pork rolls and the lemon grass meats (grilled porks, shredded pork, pork skin and meat) with rice & fish sauce was amazing. Portion sizes for the prices are awesome. My friend had the XL sized rare beef pho which I tried and was amazing (best in London and not really a pho person but would recommend for all pho lovers). It gets busy at lunch time on a weekday so make sure you get there for 11:45-12 because starts to fill up at around 12:30-1. Excellent service and they have after hours karaoke (which I have not been to but have been it's fun) on the weekend. All in all great place and I'd highly recommend it! read more

I am not originally from London so I needed to find a Pho place. I asked a friend and was given this as the recommendation but was really disappointed. I was going to order summer rolls but they came at the hefty price of 7.99$ for only two so I opted for the spring rolls to start instead (even though they came out after the main was served...). They were burned, cut into thirds, and French salad dressing on the side for dip. I have never seen this ever in a Vietnamese restaurant. I also ordered the traditional Pho in a regular size. There must have only been one meatball (bo vien) cut up into slices (not an actual ball), the side plate of garnishes (citrus, chill, and bean sprouts) was minimal. There were no small side dishes for the sauces on the table. I had to get up and ask for a couple. Nor was there chill paste. The food was not worth the 10 minute drive. Hands down, my favourite Vietnamese restaurant to go to. Don't let the location fool you, the inside looks better! I've been going here since I was a kid, and I've always loved it. This is where I like to eat bun bo hue, as the dish is usually supposed to be spicy, however, their's isnt, but I love that about it! I remember quite well being about 9 or 10 riding in my friends parents beat up car (u could see the road thru the floor) to demhai dang for pho. It's 25 years later and I no longer live here but I make my yearly pilgrimage or so. The food hasn't changed, and that's a good thing. They had their menu dialed in during the early 1990s. If u are new to the place, their decor hasn't changed much and their portions aren't giant. But everything on the menu has incredible consistency and balance. Not busy on a Thursday afternoon, seated promptly. Ate a normal sized pho beef bowl. Not much different other than price between the normal and large sizes, mostly just filled with soup. Overall it's standard fare for london, not really extraordinary, but just being good enough. read more

Located in a small plaza off of Huron St, this place can be hard to find or spot. It's a small place that specializes in Vietnamese food. The menu is a bit smaller than what I might expect but what they do, they do quite well. I tried their bun (vermicelli) with grilled pork and shrimp and it was a superlative dish. Both the pork and shrimp had a beautifully smoky flavour. My only real complaint was that the vegetables in the bowl weren't the freshest. I also tried their rare beef pho. The beef itself was a little forgettable but the noodles had good consistency and the broth might very well be one of the best pho broths I've tried. I'd definitely return. read more

A friend and I began coming to Dem Hai Dang over 10 years ago. The first item I tried was #56 House Special Spicy Soup and I've been getting it ever since. The soup is always AMAZING. Kong is always so welcoming and wonderful. I've introduced many people to this special little gem over the years and all enjoyed it as much as I do.
