My wife and I decided to go to Demetres for some dessert as we were in the area and were craving something sweet. We had heard great things about Demetres so we thought we'd give it a try! And I'm glad we did! We got the Cocoa Ono to share between the two of us and it was a perfect balance of being sweet, rich and fluffy. The cake in itself was a superstar, and once you added the honey vanilla ice cream, it was simply amazing. The chocolate-y-ness of the cake paired super well with the creamy ice cream. The employees were also very helpful. They helped recommend what we chose based on what we told them we'd like. They also brought us some hot water as we both love something warm with our food. We have been coming to DD for around two and a half decades and this location occasionally for the last decade. Inside the place immaculately clean and the service is very good. It does make you feel good to sit here. The vegan options that we care about for the last decade have actually changed a bit. Disappointing. Took overseas family this time. Many different options were selected by family. They did like it. The portions are big and some of them are suitable to be shared. The vegan Takes Two to Tango comes with mango sorbet. It was OK but not great. Missed the earlier options. Comes topped with strawberry and banana. we went to this new Demetres today and Im not really a fan. the tables are smaller and seats are not very comfortable. The staff is very nice but its very busy so you must be patient. I ofcourse got my usual Sweetcar named devour and as usual it did not disappoint. I switched it up a bit today and got white chocolate icecream instead of the cashmere chocolate it comes with. I was pleasantly surprised by the finesse, quality of ingredients, and balance in sweetness with everything I ordered here on my recent visit. Tried the strawberry milkshake, Nutella hot chocolate, and French crepe with an apple crumble inspired topping called pomme pilot, one of Demetres favorites. By far the strawberry milkshake was the best I've ever had; the balance of tartness and sweetness with the fresh strawberries was the best! The Nutella hot chocolate was also delicious, and came with a roasted marshmallow, and had a lighter sweetness which complemented the French crepe well! The French crepe tasted really good on its own, and their ice cream seemed to be made in house with a lighter sweetness as well to work with all the toppings. One taste and I saw the heavens open up and a choir of angels sing! FINALLY a dessert place that doesn't hide behind mountains of sugar. You can actually taste the different flavors that make up their desserts and drinks, what a concept! You can tell that they use high quality ingredients with flavors that harmonize beautifully with one another: Nielsen Massey Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla, Barry Callebaut Belgian Chocolate, Cocoa Barry French chocolate, loose leaf tea from Sloane Fine Tea Merchants. The waffle was very filling and I could only eat half. I arrived an hour before closing and there were quite a few other customers in the store, however there was only one waitress attending to everyone (including a few larger parties). Unfortunately, due to this the service was slow which is understandable but it was also hard to get the waitresses attention and I was not checked up on at all during the visit. They're really large and is plenty enough to share with a friend. I tried the Pomme Pilot and Strawberry crepe (i don't remember the name) but they were both amazing. I prefered the Pomme pilot just because I like apples more. I appreciate how generous they were on the fruit and ice cream. The best part is the crepe itself comes out hot while the ice cream is solid cold and when they melt together... it's heavenly. This is the best dessert place I have ventured to and unfortunately it's here in Canada. Came with a wagon of kids all under the ages of 14. The store has cute booths and bar tables with delectable cakes on display. The menu itself looks like doodles a high schooler would make during class. Options are simple scoops of ice cream, crepes/waffles, milkshakes and teas. Substitutions are allowed as we substituted bananas for strawberries for the Moo La La. Summertime Fatness, Moo La La, Last Straw, Blush, and a crepe with vanilla bean ice cream which I don't recall the name. Holy. We were expecting to get ripped off with tiny portions but oh my, Caffe Demetres, you are generous with your portions. All items were so aesthetically pleasing and we were scrambling to take pictures to post. All ice cream served were smooth and didn't have that 'sitting around' taste. The crepes and waffles didn't smell or taste like flour. The strawberries were nicely tart and a nice complement to the sweetness. I had the Summertime Fatness to myself, all chocolate with brownies, Coco Chanel ice cream, Belgian white chocolate and French Dark chocolate. I could only finish half and almost regret not sharing. Everything was tasty and not sickeningly sweet when shared. But really, I highly advise to share as five items were more than enough for 7 people. Bill was ~$77 not including tip.
