Our waitress is knowledgeable with menu content explaining and answering questions and providing info concerning any health issue with ingredients. Yes we will be back. Ambiance? Yes, it is a southern, close quarters, steel building with a good bar and raw oysters. Worth the ride from 25 to 50 miles. I was told about Dempsey's Seafood & Steak in Kiln while at a Doctors Appointment in Picayune. We went there at about 730 and the parking lot was packed. Surprisingly there was just a short wait. The menu was well laid out and had a verity of items. The dining area was old world which gave it a nice ambiance. I had the steak salad and the wife had fried Shrimp. She was very pleased to see the quaintly and the size of the shrimp. The salid was very filling and had an adequate amount of stake that was tender and delicious. The hush puppies were good but the wife didn't care for the coleslaw. I tried both and found that I didn't care for the slaw either. We both ordered 1/2 & 1/2 tea and were not disappointed. It tasted fresh. The meals were a little on the pricy side, but without a doubt we got what we paid for. We will definitely be back. If your in the area, give them a try. read more

Our first visit to this restaurant, at the direction of my friend, who is a local. Dempsey's did not disappoint. The food was awesome- we had a muffaletta, the beer was cold and the service was efficient. The value was on par with the food quality, service and the restaurant setting is quaint.. I went yesterday with my lady friend. She had catfish and I had catfish and shrimp. Both were very good. Our server was very good. The restaurant was clean and the noise level was ok. My only problem was when I mentioned that I was a disabled veteran. I was told discounts are only given on Thursday. It seems odd. Maybe they don't do much business on that day and they would save money by giving discounts on a slow day. I go out all the time and I have never heard of this policy. read more

This is only for the food & wait staff. Not sure what happened or went wrong, but our dinners took over an hour & 40 minutes to come to us. If the food hadn't have been outstanding, I would've given them a 4. The waitresses & busboys are really hustling in this place. It was Jam packed full of people. The wait to be seated wasn't too bad. Maybe 20 minutes because those busboys are all over it. You'd put a plate down and it was grabbed. You looked out of a drink & it was fully. Our waitress was all over the place too. She may have been running, but it looked like a fast float. I had the filet with Gorgonzola and crabmeat. Outstanding & cooked perfect. My friend had stuffed flounder. It was full of crab & shrimp. He liked it, but not like my filet. Great dinner. Great service. Just slow out of the kitchen. The place is much like an oyster shucking Louisiana oyster bar & grill. It's just on the other side of the Mississippi and tucked away in Kiln. I'm glad we went. Next time, I'll go earlier. Since 2011 when I first moved to Mississippi from out west I have been looking for a decent steak house. I've finally found it at Demspey's with their 12oz ribeye; it was deliciously juicy, easily cut like it was butter. The sweet potato waffle fries were sublime and did not need any condiments it was so good. And don't get me started on the bread pudding... knocked it out of the park! The service was outstanding, especially considering the size of the crowd. It was packed, but our server, Brittany, never missed a beat, and she was terrific helping us to decide what to eat by answering a lot of questions. An empty dish was swiftly whisked away almost as soon as we were done with it. The ambiance was a little loud, but otherwise quaint with all of the seafood style decor. This is one of my favorite chill go to places to eat. Close to home without it being too busy. After sitting down, we got our order in right away. The burger itself, the bun was absolute perfect, fluffy and oh so good. Now with the burger itself, the ketchup and mustard I got on it, weren't really there, I had to add more myself. Besides that the fries were a welcomed change when eating the burger. I would come here during my midterms and finals to help study and eat these burgers, they're usually better though. read more

We finally got to try this restaurant that we had heard had really great food. It was Not! I ordered the sirloin tips with mushrooms and onions. It had no seasonings. I didn't say anything to my husband to see what his thoughts were on his order of catfish. He grabbed the salt shaker and that's when I knew his food was not seasoned either. My family and I have frequented Dempsey's Restaurant for MANY years. We have regularly gone throughout my childhood, and now as a 26 year old the food is always amazing. Anytime I come to the area I make certain to stop in for their delicious blackened fish (redfish or catfish) as well as the baked macaroni! Dempseys has the BEST blackened fish that I have ever had. What can I say, Dempsey's has some of the best prepared meals on the MS Gulf Coast. While not situated along the Gulf edge, like many other fine places, their inland location does not hamper their ability to procure and serve some of the freshest seafood around. The menu also includes steak, and pasta. The atmosphere is not a romantic, secluded seating kind of place. Expect an open, fairly loud area, but the service is great. The kitchen is a very busy place and the food comes out hot and freshly prepared. However, they don't take reservations, so when they're busy be ready for a wait. Grab a cocktail and enjoy the wait. We enjoyed a family gathering and all was well until I found a HUGE BUG, , yes BUG, in my crawfish. The waitress' response was that it was just a bug cooked in the crawfish. She did nothing and was not apologetic. The manager randomly passed by and she had no idea about what had a happened. I explained I had eaten 1000's of pounds of crawfish and never had a bug in mine. She dismissed the situation as well, but acknowledged she had never had a bug cooked in her crawfish either. I wasn't able to finish my meal and Dempsey's ripped us off. The manager did apologize but did nothing about the lack of pest control in their establishment. It ruined the meal for the seven of us around the table. I wished I had taken a picture because it was so large, slimy, and gross! I would not recommend the crawfish unless you like a cup or more of water in the tray and many dead bugs. It was a disappointment. The crab cakes had more filler than crab. It should be called filler cakes. The shrimp, chicken and crab salads were all good but we were all sickened by the gross bug and managements response of a terrible situation. One person at the table thought it was a little salamander. We had planned to have dessert but decided we didn't want cinnamon grasshoppers. We won't be back! read more

After Dempsey's being recommended to me and my husband we decided to try it - twice. First time the took another couple with us. The atmosphere was so loud - you couldn't carry on a conversation without yelling at each other. Steak was over cooked and never saw our waitress after food was serged. Second time we thought maybe it was a bad night before. Again - very loud. Placed in the path of the kitchen. Tried the seafood - not edible. Very was overcooked. It was like it was cooked prior to that evening and then warmed up again. Think we will leave Dempsey's to the people that gave it rave reviews. read more
