Stayed her for our Denali trip. It is conveniently tucked in off the Hwy. The cabins are very clean and the beds are comfortable. The office is at the top of the hill with a fine dining restaurant perched on the hill with an overlook. At the bottom of the hill is a pizza pub. They have wifi because there is no cell phone service unless you are in the highway. The management was helpful when out wifi was not working and they resolved it quickly. It is hard to find a good hotel around denali national park, but the Perch is the one. I stayed in the perch for 2 nights. The location is pretty nice, 15min drive away from denali bus station. There is a pizza bar right next to the hotel, you can find some comfort food there, even in late night. The room was clean and comfortable, with heating inside. The wifi has good strength, and heater was keeping the room in good temperature. When I left, I forgot my camera in the hotel room. I did not realize that until the hotel called my phone on my way to anchorage. We had already driven 3 hours so I asked if the Perch could kindly mail my camera back to New Jersey, and they said yes! one week later I received my camera at home. I could not thank them more. read more

Unbelievable! The food. The atmosphere. The experience. It's family owned, for generations. You can tell. We were very fortunate to find this spot, away from the packs of other tourists visiting Denali. It's about 8 miles away. When we called, they offered a shuttle service if we had a group of 6 or more. Our group of 10 were promptly picked up at our lodging and whisked away to what turned out to be a memorable time. The Perch sits on top of a hill. You climb up a set of stairs to enter the dining area. one room contains the bar, open kitchen and dining tables. Charming. But, it's the back deck you gravitate to.(it was too cold for us to dinner outside) We walked outside to see the magnificence of Alaska. Panoramic Mountain is the focal point, with a crown of clouds and blankets of trees. What seemed like a hiking path leading to/from restaurant was actually a moose trail. Reportedly the moose lives close by. The food options such as filet mignon, duck, vegetable stuffed pasta and rainbow trout rivaled those found in fine dining spots in the lower 48, minus the sky high prices. Every dish was enjoyable. Also, what made the food special, is that it really was homemade. The owner, Leslie, her sons, aunt and mother all work there. Friends too. It tasted like you were eating at her home (in fact, she lives above the restaurant), and she really does know how to cook. All desserts were made from scratch. Delicious and unpretentious, but finely executed. We all raved about the meals and the place. We also agreed Leslie & her family were gracious and warm hosts. they made us feel like special customers. The Perch should be on your list of places to eat if you make it to Denali..... The Perch restaurant is quite small, so luckily we had called ahead to make a reservation for 4. We came during labor day weekend and the restaurant was almost full / tables were reserved. We started off with a bowl of the corn and croup soup. The crab and corn tasted fresh and the duck broth was AMAZING. My order of flank steak with fries was also delicious. The steak was cooked to a medium rare perfection with juices leaking onto the fries that were smothered in onion gravy and swiss cheese. My girlfriend ordered the Sweet sticky ribs with fries. These ribs were fall off the bone and very sweet and sticky. Fries were a bit drier, yet equally satisfying as my fries. The portion sizes looked small, but I sure was full by the end of my meal. This is a great place to stay, very friendly staff. The restaurant was closed due to Covid. But they have the best pizza at the pizza parlor and bar that I have ever had in Alaska. Our cabin was warm and cozy. We had the best nights sleep we have had in a long time. It was a dry cabin but the bathroom and shower facilities were not far away. Nice hot showers and very clean. If you want a nice getaway to relax this is the place. I will definitely be back to stay again. read more

We stayed at the Perch for 3 nights while visiting Denali July 2020. The location to the park is great, there are amazing hikes just a short drive away. Our rooms were small for 3 adults but comfortable and nicely decorated. The sink water was DELICIOUS, we were wishing we had access to it all throughout our Alaskan vacation! Ivan was very welcoming and friendly. Due to COVID, there are limited restaurant options nearby and after one night of pizza we were hoping for something different. There are options, just do your research. Overall a great stay, seeing a moose right outside our cabin on our first morning this was a very welcome surprise! read more

I reserved this Hotel through Hotels.com and the Hotel manager (Leslie) cancelled my room by mistake. I called and she said she fixed it. This all happened a month before my stay. When I landed on the Hotel and tried to checkin, she wont honor my reservation and wont listen to any of my explanations. I have never seen a hotel manager this rude in my life. She had my money and wont refund for a long time. Our family had the worst night at Denali trying to find a hotel in the middle of the night. This is not a professionally run hotel and they wont honor your reservations. Try explaining and you will be thrown out by their rude staff. Stay away from this hotel. Denali is a nice play and this Hotel will spoil your trip. It's not just me, there are hundreds of other reviews about hotel manager Leslie and her bad attitude. My Fiancee and I were looking forward to visiting Denali national park, before our wedding, but found due to family circumstances a month out were unable to make it, we thought this would be plenty of time for the resort to find other tenants for the room considering its popularity and the rate at which it was booking out. We went to cancel our reservation and found that within 30 days it is a full 100% cancellation fee, surprised with this we rang to explain and hoped that the resort, who know full they will get another booking, will be kind enough to understand and also seeing as if we had cancelled 24 hours earlier it would have cost us only 30 dollars in cancellation. We were coldly told it was policy and no exceptions. There is not much in this world that upsets me viscerally, except for seeing my fiancee upset, and there was in no doubt anyway that this answer would not have upset her, especially with the sort of crappy cold shoulder they gave us. Who knows if this place is good, we will never find out. When we return to Denali post wedding, we will be booking elsewhere. A little compassion goes a long way in this world, I hope in the future, Denali perch resort takes this on board and adds compassion to their list of services. read more

I will have to say it has been a while since I have been disappointed in a restaurant, on multiple levels. The dining area itself is nice and the views from the rear deck are fantastic, it begins to go downhill from that point forward. We had the owner as our server and he seemed to be well intentioned but you could tell he had a lack of experience in how to "serve" in this type of restaurant environment. He was slow in taking our drink order and food order which was frustrating as he was chatting with other customers the entire time - If you have multiple tables and you are the only server you need to be able to politely say you don't have time to "chat" right now because you are the only one taking care of multiple tables. The menu has some nice items on it but there is nothing for children - they will try to accommodate and make something for you which was nice. At the prices for the items I would have thought they would have been better prepared, I had a dish with a wonderful sauce but the meat was over-cooked. The other thing that was not set up well was the grilling area itself which is visible from the dining area. When the order dish is ready it is put up on a counter and there are no heat lamps to keep it warm while the other dishes are assembled - to make it worse the front door and rear doors were open creating a cool draft going right over the food; none of our entrées were "hot" just warm. Hopefully they can learn as they go forward but due to the cost of the entrées I would be skeptical to try it again... unless I see some improved comments from future "yelpers." read more

For the area you are truly getting a great deal with The Denali Perch Resort! The property is right off the main hwy (hwy 9) that runs from Wasilla to Fairbanks, through Denali National Park, just 8 or so miles south of the park's main entrance and main tourism area. I was glad we stayed away from all that as the park and nearby shops isn't everything you should be up here for. The property offers beautiful creek-side accommodations and wonderful mountain views. My wife and I stayed in a private cabin, which included a double bed with a rustic log constructed frame, a small table with two chairs, a heater, fan, and a loft accessible by a ladder to a twin size bed. It had just been renovated, we were the 2nd guests to have every stayed in it, and we were pleased with its cleanliness. The private cabin is perfect for any couple or party of three, and has its own full bathroom. Each cabin is equipped with a one cup coffee maker with plenty of packets of coffee to last the duration of your stay. The cabin's porch also has a nice bench, perfect for waiting for those in your party that might take a little longer to get ready. I was able to just sit back, listen to the creek, breathe in the crisp mountain air, and gaze among the surrounding majestic peaks. The property has two restaurants, The Perch Restaurant and Panorama Pizza. The first serves a fairly priced full breakfast and a $$$, but worth it, dinner menu. Panorama Pizza is only open for dinner and serves, as stated in the name, Pizza and other things that you'd expect at standard pizza parlor. They have a great beer on tap at both places as well, and the Perch Restaurant has full bar with a great selection of wine. We had a great overall experience with both, service and food were fantastic. Management is knowledgeable of the area and is happy to arrange activities for you during your stay. If you are looking to get off the beaten path and would like to go to the roads less traveled they'll point you in the right direction. The park isn't all that's up there, and they're happy to give you tips to get a real Denali experience. I must tell you, and you need to keep in mind that you are truly getting a bargain as most places charge $200+ a night in this area unless you are camping or in a shared bunk room, that our cabin did not have hot water. Now I saw a previous review that mentioned they didn't shower for two day because of that, but there were alternatives to avoid having to take an arctic shower. We had jugs of water that we had purchased just to refill our water bottles while driving around Alaska. We took our empty jugs and filled them half with cold water and then ran the coffee maker, without coffee of course, and placed the hot water in the jugs to bath with. Method worked out seamlessly, although it was a little time consuming (10-15min), but you are up there to relax so you have the time. It isn't really roughing it like a true Alaskan, and there are ways to still make your experience at The Denali Perch Resort as comfortable as possible. read more

First, we were tired. We tried to see Mt McKinley and it's a long round trip from the park entrance. We were greeted very nicely and once we sat down we had fresh bread placed on the table. The service was very good and non-intrusive. We ordered BBQ shrimp for an appetizer and it was very good. Wonderful flavors, nice presentation and the shrimp was prepared perfectly. We ordered all you can eat Salmon (yes, not a misprint) and it was grilled and seasoned Very well. A second portion was ordered and it was seasoned a tad better. Both were very good and hit the spot. Second order was King Crab legs. Both entree items had mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. The crab leg was prepared perfectly and most important to me was locally sourced. The asparagus was very good and the mashed potatoes were skins on and chunky, just like I like them. The wine was good and the prices were the best part of the meal. The prices for both of these dishes eclipsed prices in Fairbanks. Not cheap but neither was the order. If you are within 20 miles, it's worth the trip. The effort is obvious, support it. read more

Driving by after day on the Denali Highway. Saw sign and followed the "mooses" the top of the hill. There it was perched on the top. Inside beautiful windows look over the trees to the mountain across the way. Food is exceptional. We shared a cup of mushroom soup...best I had. We also shared the rainbow trout, cooked just right, and the vegetables and wild rice done to a T. The meal came with a small loaf of home made bread. We ended with the Homestead pie...great crust! Husband say best pie on this trip! Cost of meals matched others we eaten around here, but this was better and nicer place to dine. Couldn't find this place listed on yelp. Tried to add it. A long time family owned business with a personal touch- recently under new management by the third generation. The cabins are quaint and the location along the creek and views of the surrounding mountains are fantastic on the property. They have The Perch restaurant and Panorama Pizza Pub on-site which both have excellent food and great atmosphere. You may even get enticed into playing a game with the owners' young boy or be entertained by his stories about the wildlife! read more

We discovered this place by chance and were so happy we followed the "moose trail". The place was uncrowded and the food was fresh and absolutely delicious. The waitress was a bit odd - reeked of cigarettes and greeted us with "Are you here to eat?" But be that as it was, the service was fast and the food top shelf. I had the salmon dinner and my husband had the smoked gouda mac & cheese with caalamari steak. The "caalamari steak" was strange. Little flavor and kinda rubbery but the mac & cheese was so flavorful and amazing that it didn't matter. Had lemon sponge cake with blackberries and it, too, was bursting with flavor. Highly recommend this place. And suggest some training for the waitress! read more

( we Slept in our Clothes!!!!...NO clean towels..(Stained)..Towel bar was ripped from the bathroom wall and left on shelf above the couch..Dirty bathroom with hair in the shower!!!..So Gross.. NO Restaurant open..(That was pictured online with Steaks and wine!!)...Pizza was open but the menu was dirty and stained.. half the items were crossed off with a black marker... as I walked in the pizza place I was immediately yelled at from someone behind the bar that I could not come in there with my drink( Red solo cup with water)..water ..because I just took an Advil..the bed frame stuck out past the mattress, and I got a nice gash in my shin...it goes on.. meeting other guest in the morning as we were leaving..all had a bad experience as well... this place surely lied about the accommodations..I do not recommend staying there seems they do not care about its patrons returning, and we wont. read more

The accomodations are 3 star but the value is 4 star for the area. Most places around Denali are either really expensive hotels that cater to the older clientele or places where you must be willing to rough it a little. We decided on a cabin without a bathroom because those are the cabins on the river. Carlo Creek is nice to listen to as you sleep, but I wouldn't want to have to walk to the bathroom all the time for a week, but it's ok for a couple of days. The first cabin had some type of squirrel in it and they were nice enough to switch us to another cabin. Some have lofts with additional beds. This is the wilderness and I like that the cabins give you the opportunity to feel part of the wilderness without camping. The best part is Panorama Pizza and the Perch Restaurant, both which you can walk to. The food at the Perch Restaurant was really good while the Panorama has more casual food and a party atmosphere. read more

We stayed here for two nights, eating at the restaurant both nights and getting two breakfasts there. The cabins are adorable and the beds comfortable. They could be somewhat cleaner (we saw a few bugs and the bathroom was not exactly gleaming) but it was hardly rustic living, and the area was well decorated, if cramped. The restaurant was excellent. We had been having trouble finding nice Alaskan seafood for a good value, but this is a wonderful spot off the beaten path. The view from the "perch" at the top of the hill is gorgeous. The entire restaurant is well-decorated and has a good rustic feel. The business is family owned and operated, so the service is wonderful and personal. The first night, we got the all-you-can-eat salmon for $22.95, which was excellent. You can get rice or mashed potatoes with it (they reserve you with whichever when you do get more salmon), as well as a salad and asparagus. The second night two of our party got the salmon again, and two got the $25 Alaskan King Crab. To keep the price down, the serving was smaller (1 lb I believe, 1 enormous leg). It was to die for. We had the peanut butter pie for dessert, which was a quarter of a pie, and very, very good. Restaurant gets 5 stars. read more

I was told nothing can be done about it. 2. It lists free breakfast in reality it is $ 5 coupon. 3. No wifi password provided at check in .. Had to go back up the hill to get it. 4. They will charge $15 per person for anyone more then 5 years of age ( after first 2 guests ) 5. Our best meal in Alaska. You drive past the Panorama Pizza Pub (also good) and up a short dirt road. As you drive then walk, it is not clear what you are headed towards. We walked in and found ourselves in one of those cool off the beaten path places that you are always craving. You sit in what feels like a slightly rustic old house on the side or top of a hill. Views out to the forest add to the feel. The service was outstanding. Lotta local beers on tap. Caribou and AK seafood were on the menu. Great, great dinner. Just go. The Cajun Seafood Pasta was best meal of our trip, and this place was by far the nicest restaurant we visited during our stay in Denali. Appetizers were fantastic, and the waitstaff provided some spot-on recommendations for wines with each meal choice. The Denali Perch Resort sucks. Don't stay here. We stayed at this location in June 2017. It is run down. The two cabins we rented smelled and were not very clean. The water didn't work one of the days. The only good thing about this place is the setting. Other than that, it blows. My husband and I reserved a cabin at the Perch. A friend stayed there and said it was wonderful, clean and well taken care of. We called after we booked the room to talked to them about parking our 4wheeler trailer (small 2place). The gentleman that answered the phone told my husband they have no room for our trailer because of all the tourist that are there and there wasn't anything he could do. So we canceled our reservation. It just caught me off guard because he didn't even make an attempt to work with us or offer any type of solution. It was just nope sorry and not a care in the world that we were going to cancel or reservation....very disappointing read more

When it comes to cabin resorts, you can probably do better. Cabins are tight up against each other and it's more just placed somewhere than giving you the feeling that this is the great outdoors. The cabins are nice, beds comfortable, and the staff friendly. The restaurant works well for breakfast and dinner, but expect to spend a fair bit here (or anywhere I guess). It just maybe better to think of this as a place to stay than getting an Alaskan experience. read more

Quick review: Entree price exceeded their costs. They bake their own bread and the bread bowls look great. IMO the entrees suffer from being frozen and I questioned their freshness. Very well run, responsive to concerns. The cabins are as advertised, with a shared bath house. Beds were comfortable. I loved the sound of the rushing creek nearby, but some people might be bothered by it. The cabins don't have many outlets but they loaned me an extension cord for my CPR machine. We stayed two nights, and had breakfast twice and dinner once. The menu was small but everything we tried on it was outstanding. If I come back to the area I will definitely try to eat here again. read more

My advice is to avoid this dump. They charged me $200 a night for a room that did not contain a table or a chair. There was a television in the room, but it did not work. The hot water cut out in the middle of my shower. There was no cell phone coverage (my carrier is Verizon). read more
