Every morning we enjoyed a variety of homemade lattes with fresh scones and baked goods. They packed a hearty lunch and gave us a wide selection of snacks and drinks to choose from so we could take them on our adventures. We returned every night and enjoyed cocktail hour on the patio or swings (alcoholic beverages included!). Then sat down for our 5-course meal which every night blew us away! Healy is a real town with real people, not just tourist trap crap like McKinley. Healy has awesome restaurants, two really great bars and lower gasoline prices than McKinley.

We stayed in a room where the height of the carpeting impeded the easy operation of the door. The bed was too large for the size of the room so there was no place for a nightstand to place your glasses or a bottle of water. There was very poor connectivity in the room. The room lighting was poor restricting reading and other activities to a small area near the window. Also, the interior of the venue was not traveler friendly. There were too many stairs to access bedrooms which required carrying your luggage to your room or pulling your roller bags up sets of stairs. The bottom landing of the main floor staircase was not flush with the floor which required visitors to step over the landing (think safety issue). The breakfast was mediocre at best. The proprietor (the father) had a smug and condescending style of communication. The first morning I was there, I awoke early and sat in the living room area working on a crossword puzzle. I peered outside and saw the proprietor urinate on a tree in the yard when he was letting the three dogs (one yappy and unfriendly) out for their morning business. He next appeared in the kitchen to start preparations for breakfast. Did he wash his hands? Needless to say, I only ate items prepared by his son Bart who was very personable.

From the moment I arrived, I felt like family. A warm and welcoming coordinator and crew, and an impeccable lodge was ready for anything I might want to do or see. Guided hikes, self guided mountain tours for wildlife photos, bike rides to the lake or beyond and of course, a campfire. The guides are very knowledgeable and love to share. It is difficult to explain just how truly awe inspiring the beauty of the park is, and how much I felt at home in the hills and the lodge. Flyfishing moose creek and panning for gold was just a bonus to the week. And a quick word about the food. In all my travels this is the first time Ive ever photographed my meals. Visual works of art, and a taste from the Gods. Every meal was an experience. They even catered to my special dietary needs. I could chat forever about this beautiful place and its family of people, but I think I'll finish with this. I cannot wait to return and experience everything again and again. We stayed here 15 years ago and enjoyed it very much so we dcided to splurge again and spend…read moreanother 3 days. Many people complain about the 6 hour bus ride to cover the 92 miles to the lodge but for us it is one of the highlights of the trip because that is the best place to see the wild game of the park. Certainly there are no guarantees but we saw bears, carabou, dall sheep, a golden eagle, an arctic ground squirrel and magnificant scenery. The bus drivers are knowledgable, experienced and excellent game spotters because they know where to look. Some people choose to fly in or out which provides unimaginable views of Denali if the weather is good. We chose to return by the Kantishna bus because the first vehicle on the park road in the morning has the best chance to see wildlife. Compared to our previous trip, we had the place to ourselves. Only about 25% of the dining room was utilized and many cabins were empty. Covid rules required that brakfast be served instead of a buffet but the meals were memorable. The meals were some of our best in Alaska and the chef was really creative in his preparation. Service was attentive and friendly. It was obvious that the lodge was short staffed but everyone did a good job of meeting our every need. The guided hikes were informative and varying levels of difficulty were offered. The staff shared duties guiding, serving in the dining room, driving vans, etc. but each had speciaties as naturalists and they were expert sources of knowledge about birds, flowers, plants and geology. We were exceptionally lucky in that Denali was "out" every night and morning and we were shuttled to Wonder Lake to get the best views. This involves a 1/2 mile walk from the required parking area. Prices in the bar were comparable to what you would pay in Anchorage or Fairbanks. Be aware that in June, hoards of mosquitos will try to carry you away. Be prepared with long sleeved shirts and lots of repellent. Without question, this place is expensive at $1150 a day per couple but it is an incomperable experience. The cabins are large and comfortable but at the same time rustic. Any place else in Alaska, this cabin would rent for about $150 a night without the food, guide service and transportation but in this special spot there are no inexpensive options. Some people choose to spend outrageous amounts on elaborate weddings or first class airfare. This is the same kind of once in a lifetime experience, so go big if you are willing to forget the cost.

I'm in a group of 5 that looked for lodging in Denali National Park back in mid-late July (and my…read moretrip was mid-late August), so nothing was available except Carlo Creek Cabins, and even most of their cabins were booked. We ended up getting Cabin 9, which is close to the office and therefore wifi, and Cabin A, which is quite far and has neither wifi, service, nor a private bathroom. The shared bathroom actually was clean and fine, but I hate how there's a light timer switch of 15 min maximum (I take 15-30 min showers when I wash my hair). Also, in the shower house I used closest to my room, only 1 of the 2 shower stalls had hot water. Another problem is the hours of the office and the shuttle (Denali Hostel & Cabins shuttle services Carlo Lodges, The Perch and Creekside which are extremely close by) don't really make sense with everything else going on in the park. For one, the Park Connection Motorcoach from Anchorage to Denali either arrives 12:30 pm or 8:30 pm. However, the Carlo Lodge Office is only open 8 to 11 am and 3 to 8 pm. When we arrived around 1 pm using their shuttle pickup, we literally had 2 hours of nothing to do there. We didn't have the wifi password at the time either. Second, some of the 8 am activities require you to be at Denali Cabins for pickup by 7 am. However, the shuttle itself arrives 7 am at Carlo Lodges. Lastly, they charge $20/person plus fees if you book online. For my group of 5, that means $106 each time ONE WAY to go anywhere. At least the restaurants nearby are pretty good. Creekside Cafe is the only one open every day from morning to night though lol.

After a subpar stay in Anchorage, I loved my stay at Denali Lakeview Inn so much, I honestly did…read morenot want to leave and wish I had an extra night. They originally did not have all 3 nights available in one room so I booked one night in one and two nights in another. Before we left, we were advised that the Alaska room had opened up for all 3 of our nights and we were upgraded for no additional charge so we didn't have to move. The Alaska room is the largest one they have and is so spacious that it spanned the whole middle portion of that building. Breakfast for the entire stay is left in the fridge in the room so you can mix and match your juices, pastries, etc.. The beds were comfortable and the views were spectacular that we saw more moose out of our room window than we did in Denali. I stayed up two nights in a row watching them, the first night, right outside our window where if I went downstairs, I would've been within that 50 feet of personal space we are supposed to give them. The following day, I saw them in the distance in the afternoon with their babies and that night a show with 5 moose in total including a lake crossing to our side. I enjoyed our last morning just sitting in our room enjoying the view before checking out, it was so beautiful. If it wasn't so windy, I would've love to take the kayak out to explore the lake.

We saw moose every day just walking along the water, and the staff was so kind and helpful. The rooms were very clean, and every room looks out at the lake. A very friendly family runs it. They've got an assortment of cabins. The cabins are "wet" (have running water and even a shower) and not too pricey, even in the summer. (around $200) They even include something you don't even find in hotels much these days: a fridge! We had the "Willow" cabin. The views were incredible. Again, the location makes you feel like you're all by yourself in the woods. I just wish they were open in the winter...

It's just a few miles away from Denali Nat'l Park entrance, so in just 10 minutes you're well away from the tourist crowd. The cabins are located in the hills overlooking the small town of Healy. Our cabin had everything we needed to be comfortable - small kitchen-ette with fridge and microwave, pots and pans, dishes and a BBQ on the little deck. We made a trip to the Three Bears grocery store (right down the hill) and had a great BBQ, made lunches for our Denali bus trip, and ate breakfast at the cabin each day. There's an incredible view of the Healy valley area right outside your door! When we arrived, there was a welcome letter waiting for us, and shortly after, owner Brad came to our cabin to welcome us. There's a wood-fired sauna, and although we didn't use it, Brad let us know we were welcome to try it out. My daughter especially enjoyed the candy jar - a "sweet" touch! On the road into the cabin, we passed the Denali Rafting office, so we popped in and signed up for a rafting trip. Cabin owners Brad & Kristen had sent us an email before our arrival that listed all of the things to do in the area as well. I would highly recommend Healy Heights Family Cabins. It's tucked back a bit, so it's rather quiet, but that's probably the best thing I can say about it. The rooms have small beds that are not exactly the most comfortable to sleep on; they're not even queen sized beds; I'm 6'1" and I didn't even fit in the bed. The wifi was spotty and the shower had the hot and cold faucets switched (though the water pressure was good). One other good thing about it was that it was one of the less expensive places to stay in the area. Honestly, you might be better off staying somewhere else.

White moose is tucked away from the hwy and you can park your car right in front of your room overlooking Denali and forest. I would recommend this place and would stay there again.
