    Bathroom cabin

We stayed here for 2 nights while we visited Denali National Park. The proprietors were so wonderful and welcoming, as were their cute little dogs! Rooms were comfortable, with wall heaters for cool nights. Each cabin had a double and a twin bed - fits 3 people, not more than that. Bathroom cabin was clean with plenty of hot water. Dorm fridge and microwave in each cabin, ice available at the front desk. Bring your own plates/utensils! Three restaurants across the street. Fire pits near the river, walkable from the cabin. 20 minute to entrance of Denali National Park. A good place to stay if you want to visit Denali, but be aware that you will be going out to eat a lot. BBQ grills would be a GREAT addition to this place.

Booking a cabin on the internet, on short notice, in the middle of a forest, and in a place you've never been, can be a scary experience. By pure luck, I stumbled upon Carlo's. Their fairly basic internet site was easy to use and even allowed me to choose the exact cabin I would stay in - of course I chose cabin "T" for my name. Carlo's was right off the highway at mile marker 224 and the significant signage made it easy to find. We pulled in around mid-day and were promptly greeted by the efficient and friendly owner. She checked us in and provided us with numerous suggestions for day hikes and exploring Denali. The cabin itself was out of a movie - all log, with small trees growing on the roof. Small, but comfortable, enough for a queen size bed, a couple night stands and some space for suitcases. There was a heater, which was essential, even in the summer. The bed was comfortable and the linens clean. The showers and bathrooms, located about thirty feet from cabin, were modern and clean. They even offer free wifi. In addition, there were certain other charming features - moose horn door handles, pictures of local moose on the walls and outside tables on the small porches. Total cost - $87. Despite the simplicity of this place, it is a great choice when traveling to Denali. I would happily return again and suggest it to friends.

The cabin was in a row of cabins, all right next to each other. I think they are brand new, because it smells like cut wood inside. There is free wi-fi. When you make your reservation, check for an e-mail from the owner a few days later. They will give you the cabin assignment and tell you how to get in. You cannot just show up and look for a person when you get there - they might not be at the property. You have to print out the e-mail, bring it with you, and get yourself checked in, independently. The location pretty good, geographically. It's near the entrance to Denali National Park, but somewhat removed from the touristy 'Glitter Gulch' strip. The cabins are rather crammed together, the narrow driveway between them is a confusing, one-way, figure 8, and I wouldn't call it a "beautiful" spot. But our cabin was clean, and comfortable, the post-and-beam look was pretty, and I thought providing postcards in the cabin was a nice idea. You're there to sleep, anyway. The pillows were nice. We slept well.

That was one of the few positives associated with this place of lodging. We stayed in a room where the height of the carpeting impeded the easy operation of the door. The bed was too large for the size of the room so there was no place for a nightstand to place your glasses or a bottle of water. There was very poor connectivity in the room. The room lighting was poor restricting reading and other activities to a small area near the window. Also, the interior of the venue was not traveler friendly. There were too many stairs to access bedrooms which required carrying your luggage to your room or pulling your roller bags up sets of stairs. The bottom landing of the main floor staircase was not flush with the floor which required visitors to step over the landing (think safety issue). The breakfast was mediocre at best. The proprietor (the father) had a smug and condescending style of communication. The first morning I was there, I awoke early and sat in the living room area working on a crossword puzzle. I peered outside and saw the proprietor urinate on a tree in the yard when he was letting the three dogs (one yappy and unfriendly) out for their morning business. He next appeared in the kitchen to start preparations for breakfast. Did he wash his hands? Needless to say, I only ate items prepared by his son Bart who was very personable.

A very friendly family runs it. They've got an assortment of cabins. The cabins are "wet" (have running water and even a shower) and not too pricey, even in the summer. (around $200) They even include something you don't even find in hotels much these days: a fridge! We had the "Willow" cabin. The views were incredible. It's just a few miles away from Denali Nat'l Park entrance, so in just 10 minutes you're well away from the tourist crowd. The cabins are located in the hills overlooking the small town of Healy. Our cabin had everything we needed to be comfortable - small kitchen-ette with fridge and microwave, pots and pans, dishes and a BBQ on the little deck. We made a trip to the Three Bears grocery store (right down the hill) and had a great BBQ, made lunches for our Denali bus trip, and ate breakfast at the cabin each day. There's an incredible view of the Healy valley area right outside your door! When we arrived, there was a welcome letter waiting for us, and shortly after, owner Brad came to our cabin to welcome us. There's a wood-fired sauna, and although we didn't use it, Brad let us know we were welcome to try it out. My daughter especially enjoyed the candy jar - a "sweet" touch! On the road into the cabin, we passed the Denali Rafting office, so we popped in and signed up for a rafting trip. Cabin owners Brad & Kristen had sent us an email before our arrival that listed all of the things to do in the area as well. I would highly recommend Healy Heights Family Cabins. Thanks Brad and Kristen - we had an amazing vacation!

The rooms were super nice, clean, and spacious. Heater worked great, kept us nice and warm. Only downside was that the shower door didn't seal properly, so matter what we did, our floors were soaked. I was a little worried about getting around since the hotel is a bit further away from main Denali, but their shuttle service is fantastic. We didn't have any problems navigating Denali without a car. And Bradley was great - he gave us all kinds of advice for our trip. They also have a restaurant (Prey) and a coffee shop (Mount Hunter). Coffee shop was great! We came here for breakfast and coffee each morning. Their restaurant, on the other hand, was lacking. Food was expensive and was just adequate - our cornbread was so hard we couldn't hit it against the table. Bonus tip: You can check out bear spray for free at the front desk when you plan to go out hiking. Overall, we had a great stay and would stay here again.

Our room was not ready, but we were able to rent bear spray as soon as we arrived. Renting the bear spray is free as long as you return it. We were in room B3. This room is in the row next to the check-in lobby. When we checked in, they were able to assist us with any questions we had. They have cofee and tea in the check-in area. If you need to use a toaster, they also have one there. The room: As I said above, it was dated, but a good place to get some rest after a long day of hiking in Denali National Park. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean. The room did have a fridge and a microwave. We asked for an iron and an ironing board and it was provided. The restroom is small, but the sink is outside the restroom door. This works well when you are traveling with friends as you can shower and not Hold up anyone else from using the sink. The shower had hot water at all times. Water pressure was OK. The room also came with the TV. We didn't really watch it. I was surprised how dark it got in the room once we closed the shades. During the day, we did keep the shades open to let some light in. Do be aware the other people can see you, but we can also see the wildlife. We didn't see any big animals, but we saw plenty of bunnies and squirrels around the hotel. Parking is available on site and is pretty ample. The hotel is about 15 minutes from Denali national Park. It is about 10 minutes away from food. There is one restaurant the opposite direction of Denali that is by about five minutes away called 49th State brewing. It was probably one of our favorite. Just FYI, there is a lake called Otto lake on the same street as the hotel, but you do have to either walk down or drive down to it as it is surrounded by other businesses and homes. There is a public park and a pier. We did spend some time there and noted that people were kayaking, canoeing and swimming. In July, the lake water was not cold. Overall, don't expect luxury. Expect a clean, comfortable hotel room where you can shower and get a good night sleep. Expect super friendly staff that are more than willing to help and answer all questions
