Absolutely worst place to live!! They will not fix anything that needs to be fixed. They fail to take responsibility, and have the worst customer service ever! I have had many health concerns of black mold, rat droppings, and water leakage, and they failed to address any of those concerns. They do not care about your health and only care about your money! Like just about everybody else, if I could give this place one star or less I would. The glowing reviews you read about are written before you get into the house. If you sign the lease and say wonderful things before moving in, they waive the fee. We had such awful service from them that I contacted the owner of the house to get maintenance done for the year that we were there. Then I had to pull teeth to get my refund check. If they weren't getting heat from the interview on TV that was so awful about them, I'm sure I'd still be asking for my money. I can't believe they're still in business. Will try to fleece you when you moved out. Asking the carpet to be cleaned and we got professional carpet cleaner came 2 days before moving out at our expense, we paid the carpet cleaning company, sent the picture, informed Denali. Lo and behold after we moved out Denali charged us $500 for carpet cleaning on top of everything else from our deposit saying that the carpet needs to be re-cleaned because they said it smelled like pet urine. We do not have any pet and the only slight smell we noticed after the cleaning was the chemical from the carpet cleaning treatment. Also, we accidentally took the garage opener in our car and Denali asked us to mail it to their office. We did and they charged us with garage replacement fob even after asking us to mail it. Property was presented for move-in with BLACK MOLD present in master bedroom. Neighbor was quick to point out that prior renter developed respiratory issues, moved out and subsequently died. Feces and filth was found in the master bedroom and bathrooms and general condition was disgustingly dirty. The disaster recovery team cut open the drywall and removed carpet. The inept Denali staff then presented the property for move-in without coordinating the remediation work. I rented a property from Denali Real Estate for approximately 2.5 years. I was a reliable tenant and paid rent on time each month. Every summer, the air conditioning would fail at least once or twice. Despite this being a recurring issue, the property manager, Anthony Trujillo, and Denali were consistently slow to respond--often leaving me uncertain whether repairs would be made at all. On one occasion, I went without AC for 24 hours and was promised a rent refund, which was never provided. The most frustrating part of my experience came at the end of the lease. I returned the property in better condition than I received it. During the final walk-through, Anthony stated on camera that everything looked good and that I would be receiving my full deposit back. That never happened. Instead, Denali later claimed there was an "odor" and withheld my entire deposit to replace the upstairs carpet. They also charged fees to my account due to a system error on their end--fees I was assured would be refunded with my deposit, but never were. Additionally, they failed to provide a proper itemized list of deductions, as required by Arizona law. I ultimately had to pursue legal action to try to recover the deposit and fees, but was unsuccessful. I'm sharing this experience so other prospective tenants know what to expect when dealing with this company. I was a tenant of Denali real estate and I cannot stress how horrible the experience was you don't get to choose who your property manager is but if you could choose, choose anyone but Denali. These people let me live without running water in my home for 3 weeks and did nothing. The landlord repeatedly showed to my house without warning and at one point let people into my home while I was there telling them I wasn't. When I explaine these things to Denali they pretty much blew me off and stopped returning my calls and emails. The landlord then offered to break my lease and it was a rush for me to find a new home which I was able to do within a month but it seemed like they wanted me to do it in less than a week. All I would say is if you're deciding between two homes and Denali is the property manager for one go with the other house. I had better Management in an apartment complex than I did with this company After they responeded: This company is full of it. It wasn't an unexpected plumbing issue. The house had flooded in summer and fall previously. The owner, after blaming me initially, finally had a camera sent down and saw the pipes were bad. He then brought in an unlicensed team to fix the pipes. It did not work. As for breaking the lease, it was offered, after spending half of February with plumbing issues that kept backing sewage into the home for the 3rd time. My lease was due to renew at the end of March and I had not signed a new lease. I was still naively hoping for a solution. The day I decided not to renew was the day the owner came to my home and when I didn't get to the door fast enough he opened the door to look in. I was walking to the door. I watched him open it. I don't know if he would have come in if he didn't see me, but I immediately confronted him. I emailed the company directly after I wouldn't be renewing because I did not feel safe if he was comfortable doing that. The company gave the same line about not being responsible for the owners. They terminated my lease on the 17th of March as asked, the day I secured a new lease for a new home, it originally ended the 31st of March. Also, even though all the toilets and bathtubs were clogged with sewer water that smelled horrible and the sinks backed up sewage into the toilets and showers anytime you used them, they still charged me for things being "dusty" upon move out. I had to haul any dirty water to my backyard in a bucket after every shower my family had for weeks. My family and I either had to use a camp toilet (bucket with a trash bag in it)or go to a neighbor's or the closest convenience store. I would call Denali sobbing from the stress of the smell and not having a working toilet. The company didn't care. I'll say it again, they are awful. I have all the emails from their property manager or better yet his lack of response after I would keep asking for a solution. I also still have the video of trying to clean to move out and the house flooding with sewage from the shower and toilet. I secured new housing within 2 weeks then 2 extra weeks to move in but they seemed upset I couldn't do it faster. Lastly, they made noises about giving me part of my rent back because of the absolute nightmare I endured for the last year because remember it happened twice before to the point where I was using the hose in my backyard to shower before the unlicensed men came to "fix" the problem (again the company was aware of me having to shower in my yard and not having working toilets and blew me off) but they were just making noises. They charged me for Every. Single. Day. till I moved for a house with no toilets and sewage backing into the house anytime water went down the drain. I can't explain the smell. It felt attached to me Save yourself from the horrible practices of this company if anything goes wrong and just choose the other property. That wasn't even all of it. Do not even consider using Denali if you are a homeowner. We should have fired them immediately. They required 7 plumbing visits (their plumber) in August for no cold water. Yes, 7. Then, the tenants had a teenage drinking party where the kids climbed over our fence and harassed the horses next door. Our neighbors were so distressed and angry. The kids harassed the female neighbor when she came out. We wanted the tenant out but the house manager stated it was not severe enough for eviction. Things were going ok then the move out. Chad Hagenson did the walk through. He missed dozens of things. 30 holes and shattered light fixtures on the outbuilding where the daughter played lacrosse? The hole in the floor to the cement foundation? The absolutely dirty house? Broken toilet lid? Damage to every single appliance. Enter owner Michael Van Vleck. We returned every receipt from reputable Valley contractors (all approved by Chad) and Michael determined we overpaid and tried to wash his hands of us. We invited Michael and Chad to the house for a review. They ignored us. We asked that they call the contractors. They said they knew better. We have filed a complaint with the AZ Department of Real Estate. I have spoken to them about our interaction with Denali and they have assured us that they have concerns about their actions. Denali managed a couple of our properties, and Mike was very pleasant to work with and handled some tough situations for us. However, over time, I'm not sure if Denali has been short staffed or if they've taken on more business than they can handle, but the quality of property management has gone drastically downhill. We had to part ways when we had a situation where Denali was collecting a lower rent amount than what was specified on the lease agreement. After several days of back and forth on the matter, we decided it was best to part ways as amicably as possible. When transitioning to a new management company, Mike was kind to say he'd waive the 30 day notice provision, but then proceeded to drag out the handoff for weeks. We reached out to tenants ourselves to inform them of the upcoming transition so that they wouldn't mistakenly submit rent to Denali. Then we found out that Denali submitted a request to them to pay rent, and also issued a 5-day notice for eviction on our behalf. In the meantime, none of our emails or calls were being returned from Denali, and our new management company also experienced the same stonewalling. One of our tenants who moved between the transition was being told that his security deposit was given to us. After a few weeks of this back and forth, the tenant threatened legal action against Denali, and suddenly the deposit was transfered into our checking account to pass on to him. All in all, it was a very unfortunate, messy end to a relationship that started well. read more

It's been almost a year with no resolve. The worst rental experience of my life! I encourage anyone having issues with this company to document everything and file a complaint with the Arizona Board of realtors. No one deserves the treatment and lack of accountability or care this company has shown. I added just a few pictures (I have many more) of how the house looked when I received keys, after they promised to have these things fixed before move in. None of the appliances worked, that they conveniently put in the lease are not their responsibility but don't allow you to test them before move in. I have caving in floors and they have ignored me for months on that. These are the kind of houses Denali Real Estate rents out even in Scottsdale Ranch, Beware! My first month- So far I have not had a great experience working with this company. It's like pulling teeth to get people to respond. No one knows anything and just says to call someone else about their properties. Thankfully I have a great realtor outside of Denali who helped me but they do not communicate with anyone. We gave them a list of issues with the property that needed to be addressed before move in. We gave them two weeks to complete a professional cleaning because the place was not clean and remove 3 wasp nests. NOT A SINGLE thing was done on move in day! THEN they don't know anything about any utilities and said that's my responsibility. The City of Scottsdale said tenants are not allowed to set up water services! Only the home owner! Denali claims they don't know anything about the property and to call the property manager! Like who am I working with!? The customer service is atrocious! I feel sorry for anyone using them to manage their properties because this right here is why your property sat for over 10 months not being rented. UPDATE**** The owner of the property seems to ignore the property all together. For over 6 weeks I have had intermittent running water. Roof leaking from the second story down to the first story, unsanitary appliances and more all within Scottsdale ranch where I would have never imagined such conditions. I am beyond appalled at the deplorable conditions of the home and complete lack of accountability by both the owner and the property management company. TLDR: I rented my first home in Baltimore, MD in 1991, I've rented half a dozen houses and apartments all around Baltimore City and County and I've lived and rented in downtown Los Angeles, and renting from Denali Real Estate has been my absolute worse experience ever. Jason Self would continually ghost me when I called about water leaks, inopperative air conditioning, any problem big or small, even after dozens of texts, emails and voicemails. I'm not your dad. I should have to continually call you to get you to do your job. I feel we were lied to continually from the beginning, even before we signed the lease. The ad online said twelve months, the one sheet said twelve months, yet when we signed the lease it was for eighteen months. We were lied to about it being normal for the air conditioner to run all day long, even when it's only 95 degrees f outside, the ac couldn't pull down below 79! We were lied to about the rotted, punky wood trim in the bath being repaired. We were lied to about the leaking bathtub being repaired. We were lied to about the lawn just needing to be overseeded. It was completely dead and the sprinkler system was seriously out of order. We were lied to about being reimbursed for the light bulbs we had to replace. They were all blown out. All of them. Even the oven, refrigerator and range hood bulbs, and they are special application bulbs so they were very expensive. I also feel the pictures on the website did not convey the true condition of the house. They didn't show how ramshackled and filthy it really was. The entire first month I was there I spent everyday just cleaning. Under the appliances, the oven, the floors, the windows. There was also a substantial amount of rot and termite damage throughout the entire property, along with a major ant infestation that took the first two months to get under control. I must have spent $1000 on pesticides the time I was there. I absolutely would NOT recommend Denali Real Estate to anyone. Looking at their reviews you'll get a better idea of who they really are. Do not rent from this company they discriminate against you if they don't like your appearance during the in person tour they also have terrible customer service and horrible communication skills throughout the application process.Once the tour was done and application was submitted they came up with a million obstacles purposely preventing the application from being approved. If your brown avoid this rental company all together you will be discriminated against they seem to prefer to only want to offer brown people the homes with no updates and that are not newer even with a 800 credit score it wasn't good enough for them do yourself a favor don't waste your time. Side note most of the non updated home rentals prices are super inflated and I wish I would have believed the reviews I read before I applied they are absolutely true even some of the homes i toured had cat piss smell ,dog piss smell and mold they actually try to rent these homes out as is I see now why so many people that do get approved have nothing but problems so glad I escaped this nightmare. read more

We hired Denali to manage a townhouse in Tempe. At first things seemed to be going pretty well. We didn't hear anything unless there were issues (which were rare), and we even got pretty fast responses. We once sent an email late on a Saturday night thinking that they would respond on Monday morning. Instead, we got a response that very night with the information we were looking for. But then it happened. Instead of getting my AZ state tax return, I got a notice saying that my return had been seized by the state to cover TPT-related penalties. This confused us greatly, as Denali was supposed to be taking care of this. We couldn't get anywhere talking with the department of revenue, since at the time we didn't know who the TPT license was registered to or how. When we contacted Denali to ask about it, we received an uncharacteristically curt response that basically said, "We know about this and already filed an abatement form. We are coming up on a holiday weekend and we are too busy handling other more urgent matters. Ask us more about this when we aren't so busy." At the time, we had absolutely no idea what was going on and the people we expected (and hired) to take care of and explain this didn't seem to care that we had suffered financial harm. We then had to learn the TPT process ourselves to better understand what was going on. And we finally were able to have discussions with the DOR about our TPT license. They explained that the tax return was seized because of unpaid late fees and underpayments on our license. When we asked Denali about this, they blamed the DOR website and tried to tell us "It's impossible to explain (the TPT process) to an owner." This made me really angry and I called them out for saying something so disrespectful (they basically said "You're too stupid to bother trying to explain this"). This is when we decided to cut ties with Denali and take over management of our townhouse ourselves. Months later, after waiting to see if the penalties had been removed by the abatement form Denali said they filed, I learned that the penalties are still there. And in the last discussions I have had with the DOR, they have said they could not find any abatement form filed for my TPT license. Nothing, nowhere. While we did learn that indeed the DOR website was having issues which lead to the late fees being added erroneously, there was never an abatement form filed by Denali. And this is one of the documents I had been asking them for but never received. They told me to get a copy from the AZ DOR instead of supplying us with a copy of what they said they filed. Now I know why they wouldn't furnish us with a copy. And there is still a $2.18 underpayment from April 2022 (when they were still managing this) that I now have to pay before an abatement form will even be considered. All it would have taken would have been 20 minutes to explain what was going on. "Here is what has been happening with the AZ DOR webpage, here is what you can expect to happen (your tax refund being seized), and here is how we are going to fix the issue for you." And making payments in full... Instead, we were brushed off and no attempt to fix the problem was ever made, and I have to pay money that should have been paid months ago. So now, we completely regret ever getting involved with Denali and are considering whether we need to contact a lawyer for their failure to do their job properly. To sum it up: if you are considering using Denali for anything... DON'T. read more

However, I draw the line when it is clear that the business is designed to take advantage of people for profit. After reading many reviews and complaints on Google, Yelp, and the Better Business Bureau website, I realize that this business and its owner, Micheal Van Vleck, have earned a reputation for collecting their fees and ghosting people. They quickly approved my 19-year-old son's application for a rental property, with me as a co-signer to cover the 2 years of employment/rental history required. After collecting the fees (nonrefundable) and getting a clear background check, they proceeded to deny the application because of "lack of rental history and employment history," which was fully disclosed at the beginning of the application process (hence the reason for me, his parent, to be a co-signer). I can't imagine they are providing quality property management, either, based on the various complaints on the BBB. This company and Michael Van Vleck are extremely untrustworthy.
