The majority of the items here are either scratch and dent, demos or simply the previous model, not that there's anything wrong with that, check where the marks are on the item and if they're not going to be visible, then why not. With these particular items it just means the store cannot sell items which are not in peak cosmetic condition. As an example which is two years old but none the less, I done some research on which TV was going to be the best for us, good quality and had the features we wanted...so we settled on a Toshiba Regza 46". I can't remember the exact amounts paid but I can tell you the difference between buying it new from a department store and new from HV outlet was $1000, as it was the model just finished and HV was making room for the next in coming model that's the reason it was at their factory outlet. That's it...we saved $1000, got full warranty, wasn't a scratch n dent and it's still going strong, best investment. It also had alot to do with being in the right place at the right time, all the stars aligned and all that jazz. Hint: Do you research online, read blogs, get specs, etc and then look for where it is for viewing, how much it costs, take into account a small portion of what the sales people tell you as they get brownie points for sales, then add it all up in the end, because it's your money and your decision not theirs. You go in there and tell the guys what you need and they show you items that might be a bit less than perfect. The great thing is that quite often, there's the tiniest of dents or scratches which is stopping them from being sold in the normal shops. The way to shop here is to go to the regular HN stores, find something you want, look at where it is going in your house and know which surfaces are not important. For example, our fridge will be against a wall on its left side, so I could have bought one with a huge scratch on that side. I ended up getting a brand new Fisher and Paykel fridge and washing machine with a hefty discount. Also, they offer an extended warranty and delivery. The fridge has a tiny dent on the front which you can barely see and the washing machine has a scratch on the side, but as it's being built in, it won't be seen. They also have TV's, coffee machines, washing machines, cooktops and ovens, heaters, air conditioners and more. Definitely worth checking out. Also, all the items are tested to check that they still work fine.

So what makes this one so special? Well, the thing about renting is that you will get ex-rentals, and they sell these at this specific location in Adelaide. It's fantastic place to get a good price on old electronics like flat screen tv's and computers especially. All the things they sell are still in good working order, and if they are damaged in some way, they are repaired or refurbished before they are sold. The goods come with warranty so you don't have to worry that you might be stuck with a lemon the moment you buy it. Because they are ex-rental, alot of the electronics they sell can range from a couple of months to a year to 2 years old, which in electronics years can be quite a significant amount of time. Still, I think alot of people get overly hung up with buying the newest and greatest tech when something which is a year or 2 old will do the job if you know what it is exactly that you want. A great place to get a bargain on ex-rental electronics which work and come with all their components, this is where I will normally look if the likes of eBay fail me.

I emailed their support pictures of it, and followed up twice more in the coming days but never heard back. Eventually I had to call them, and they said that they could not just replace the part that was damaged - which was considered a spare part - but that I would have to return the whole thing, and it would take two to four weeks to be assessed and replaced. I told them this was not not be suitable, so instead would like a refund, but was then told that they could not guarantee a refund. Having looked into it, I found I was within my rights to receive a refund, so called them back and arranged the return. At first even though it was an online order, they wanted me to drive (3 hours) to the nearest store to return it, but I made it clear I was not going to do that, and they seemingly begrudgingly agreed to generate a return label. Whilst I was thanking them for their help, they were monotone and unenthused the entire time. They also said that they can put a request in for the refund, but it may still take a number of weeks. This also does not align with Australian Consumer Law. I won't be buying from MSY / Umart again, and would encourage others to note how poor their online reviews are now. I didn't check, as I know previously they were a good company, but I did not notice Umart had acquired them.

We negotiated a basic price over the phone, which was a little more than I was expecting, but the quality of work and his speedy skill-set made it worth every cent. He even gave us a bunch of useful information about specific brands to look for for optimal television viewing experience. This guy is legit. He came around on a Saturday during a heat-wave of 37*C and got the job done fast. Even threw in a free doo-hickey for the antenna as the old one was warn out due to intense weather. Give him a call. What many people don't know is that if you're looking for cheap laptops, monitors, cameras, computer parts and accessories, the first place you look shouldn't be in JB Hi-fi or God forbid, Myer??? It should be in places like PC DIY or MSY where you can get things for up to 20 to 30 percent cheaper, depending on what you buy. The last time I was there I was looking for a HDMI converter cable which I managed to get one for a significantly cheaper price compared to if I had gone to the likes of Officeworks, which is another store I do love but for different reasons. If you're looking for custom solutions, you can talk to the people in the shop and they will help you design a computer that suits your needs and price tag. Walking in, you'll be greeted by a large front desk where there is usually at least one shop assistant. They may not seem super friendly to some people who come in for the first time, but they are helpful and straightforward. Most of the people who go into the shop usually know what it is they are looking for and they tend to expect those kinds of customers that walk up to the desk and simply ask them for the component or tech that they are looking for. Whenever I'm looking for cheap good quality tech, the two places I will think of are PC DIY and MSY.

I've found (and maybe you'll find differently) that MSY is that little bit cheaper, and I can put up with not having my hand held by staff when I'm looking for computer stuff. Ian's reminded me that it needs to be emphasised that you should never, ever go to places like Harvey Norman or Dick Smith's for HDMI cables. Not that long ago, a metre of HDMI cable at those places sold for over fifty bucks. Now they're down to around thirty bucks. At the same time that they were fifty bucks at other places, I bought a three metre HDMI cable here for about fifteen bucks. Good shop. Like it. Prefer MSY, but this place is good too.

They charged an extra $68 per hour on top of the quoted hourly rate for the apprentice that I did not ask for, nor did they tell me about, adding an extra few hundred to the cost of a relatively small job (an extra 30%). The person who I booked through was very patronising when the hourly rate was also higher from what he had told me and he argued that the job was faster with the apprentice, even though I told him I would have booked elsewhere had the full rates been disclosed when I asked what the rates would be. Obviously time and materials can vary from the quote but the hourly rate for the service should not. If you do use them, make sure you ask for an itemised invoice and check it carefully because they also added an extra hour to their time onsite (which they later corrected). They waived the call out charge but it still cost me more than it should have. Would not trust them and would certainly never use them again, very disappointing.

I guess you could find cheaper but at least with Rawsons you know you always get a job done properly and do you really want to risk something this important just to save a few bucks? They do have electricians for everything including some very specialised ones in fields like PLC's. In addition Rawsons are the preferred repairer for some well known brands and are great at assisting to repair or replace any found with faults, even when they did not install them. Huge credit to Rob, his family and team for a job well done on a consistent basis.

JB Hi-Fi are a great store that have been around quite a while.........which always gives me added…read moreconfidence in a store. They have some great specials on electrical items here. I have purchased a phone for my child from here, great, basic, locked with minimal credit for only about $30. Didn't thin he would find something until he saved a bit more but proved me wrong. I have also managed to grab a great bargain on some really odd dvd's, especially some fantastic comedy ones. They seem to stock stuff you can't get in the usual department stores or even sometimes in specialised music shops. I have also purchased a larger tv and set top box from here before and have received great service every time. It does get rather packed out in the store, especially when they have a big sale on, but they do always have a security guard at the entry/exit of the store. Staff get really busy, even though they have heaps of staff working all the times I have been there they also seem to often have heaps of customers. But obviously that is a good thing and the wait has never been horrendous. I tend to go with the theory of looking for one thing, phones OR computers OR cameras OR dvd's, etc. Way too much to try and look at the whole store at one time.

I just went in to buy a pre owned game but could only find a blank case with a sticker on of the game I was looking for. I found that easily too because it's well organised and in alphabetical order. The staff were very helpful and gave me a discount because it didn't come with the case. Winning! Also, unlike some places the security guy is really friendly and you don't feel uncomfortable walking past. I only come here for games so can't really comment on the electronics etc but I've only heard positive things. Oh and 90% of the staff are really good looking. Bonus haha
