If your anything like me-- girly, love fashion, and like to sport trendy yet classic clothing stop into Denise's Adornments on 3rd street in Geneva! When I have my kids with me I start to do circles trying to find outfits but end up chasing the kids and trying to keep their hands to themselves. The staff was not only there to help with greeting and checking out but also helped me find clothes that fit my body type and style. I can honestly say I didn't have to do much looking if I didn't want to because staff was so eager to help me! I tried on clothing and left in a completely new outfit! Why was this voted the "Best Shop in Geneva"? First of all, there's no room for more than three shoppers (including a clueless tagalong husband who stood there and stared at us when my friend and I tried to get by. If you aren't actively doing something, then you're in the way, dude). We got elbowed aside by a clerk who was looking for something for another woman, and hit by a cabinet door that she opened as we tried to pass into another room. Walking in I was impressed by the presentation of the store. The clothes were cute and fashions were trendy. However, the store can not fit many people and it was uncomfortable squeezing by the other shoppers. There was also a narcissistic attitude that came from the worker present. When you can smell a shop from out on the street, you know you've just struck a goldmine. Denise's Adornments is a real treat in the thick of 3rd Street, a dreamy achievement in creating a Parisan shopping experience so far away from France. A shop dedicated to the classic collections of french country contemporary style, all elements could easity spruce up a plain room and turn it into a Madonna and the life of your home. The votive candles in the front of the store will hypnotize you with the rich scents of Hazelnut, Peppermint and Caramel and make you perfectly contented to walk through the shop with open hands. With the onset of the holidays, the home decor is primarily focused on the winter theme so there was a lot of whites, off-white and silver. There are incredible hand crafted items taking use of old sheet music, buttons and pieces of jewlery to create decorative framed snowmen, wall sconces a go go, cabinets with the worn/faded pale paints and gorgeous accessories for tabletops. If you're not looking for home decor, there's plenty of jewlery, scarves and purses to look through that are fashionable and trendy. For this visit, I ended up finding mini ice skates that would look perfect on a garland or wreath but wanted to walk out with so much more. Denise's is shabby chic heaven. It smelled fantastic in here when I walked in. The boutique is softly lit, and clothing and jewelry in pinks, ivory, grays, and other soft tones dominate the displays at Denise's. Aside from clothing and jewelry, there are beautiful home goods including candles and pillows. I was very tempted by an espresso candle, as well as the lemon candle. The merchandise is pricey; expect to pay $50+ for blouses and accessories. The clothing is positively dreamy though. There were so many beautiful cardigans and mannequins dressed in perfect ensembles. The lady working here seemed really nice, I overheard her spending a lot of time helping someone else choose clothing to try on. But when I asked to try on a cardigan, I got different treatment. She looked me up and down as if to question whether the cardigan would fit. There was only one fitting room available, which was occupied, so I was told to go the back room of the shop - which contains displays of merchandise and offers no privacy from the other shoppers. I definitely would not come back here to shop for clothes. But if I find myself in downtown Geneva again, I just might pop in to check out the jewelry and home items. read more

When my sisters and my nieces and I walked into this store we immediately fell in love with the merchandise and the way it was all presented. After walking around a bit, we became increasingly uncomfortable with the way we were treated by the staff. It was as if they did not want anyone to touch or look at anything, let alone ask for help. We spent a little over a $100. Which included a lace blouse which was rolled into a ball and shoved into a little bag. When my sister asked for a larger bag, she was almost ridiculed by the cashier as to how big a bag did she want. They made it clear we were disturbing them. I have never felt so uncomfortable and treated so rudely in any of the Geneva shops. We will not shop there again. read more

Every time I walk past Denise's and I see their sign claiming " Voted Best Shop In Geneva", I can't help but chuckle. I will give them this: Their staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the store smells nice. However, unless you're rich, white, and thin, you will never be able to buy clothes from them. The styles are flimsy and lacy (in colors ranging from white to beige), and the prices are OUT OF CONTROL. In short, unless you fit the description above, don't bother. read more

Cute clothes but I have seen their owners shopping off price stores to fill in their stock and to raise the price way beyond what its worth. ( beware , search that item online before you buy ) I know many, many friends and myself who will not shop there because they follow you all around. I swear this place was created with me in mind. Even when my husband walked in and saw it, he joked that it was my idea of heaven. He is so right. I love that their home decor spans the tastes from more rustic to more "precious" - some things are frillier but others are more refined. I can spend hours looking at all the items, and I probably still miss some great finds. There's so much! And Denise is so friendly, warm, and inviting. She talks to everybody, she's glad you took the time to visit her shop and she lets you know that. One of my favorite places to browse! I am not so sure about their clothes...everything is white/cream/light....and a bit overpriced...but I love their home decor/ wedding decor. If you are planning a wedding...or decorating your home...this is a place to stop by. I wish I could give zero stars but yelp makes you give at least one. My mom got me gloves from this store for Christmas they fell apart within a few days. I asked for a store credit. The owner blamed me for her bad product. She asked me what I did to make them fall apart!!! She said she would sell me a new pair for half price... Everything in her store was on sale for half price that day. Very shady! Terrible customer service!!!! There are many other great stores in Geneva that will value you as a customer. Very rude staff. I purchased sunglasses and decided to go back to the store an hour later as I wanted to look at their clothing again. I tried on more sunglasses and had left them on the shelf. I then heard the owner tell her worker that "I left a mess" and she had pointed to me as well. I also overheard her saying "can you believe where she left the sunglasses?" Absolutely terrible customer service and appalled to hear them talking so poorly about their customers who are within earshot and can hear their comments. I was a paying customer and had come back to look but after hearing the comment made I put down the items I was interested and left. Left a poor taste in my mouth, will not be returning. Do not treat your customers this way! Also put your accessories in an area where customers can actually reach them instead of hanging the sunglasses on random things and then getting mad that they aren't placed in the same spot. read more

I've been here before and loved the store and on my birthday I went back in to spend $100 and was treated very rudely. There were three people working in this small store, no greeting, icey stares, ZERO customer service. I was so disappointed that left and spent my $100 in Geneva Commons. Apparently you don't need the business and I have told that to my friends. I live in St. Charles and am extremely active in the Chamber and local businesses and would have loved to give your store a good recommendation, however, that is just not the case. Leave the snooty attitude in the backroom. Remember, we just came through a bad economy and people are starting to spend money. At least act like you enjoy being there. Your store is similar to many, there is lots of competition. Try to treat everyone are worthy enough to shop in your store. You just lost out on $100. Obivously, you don't need it! Worst store in Geneva. I'm honestly in awe how they stay open. I have been a patron of this store for years. The items they have are inviting and pretty, though over the years it has changed, both in merchandise and in demeanor. My first encounter with the owner of the business happened when I initially wanted to purchase a chair she had for sale on the sales floor. I had travelled back from the city to view it, twice, and told the sales lady I wanted to purchase it. She wanted to clean it up, and contacted the owner to find out the best way to clean it. I told her to take her time and I was excited to have it so it was worth the wait. When they called to tell me they could clean it and have me pick it up, the sales lady also informed me that the owner wanted double the price for the chair (it was already $200 on the floor, damaged) because it would be 'hard for her to replace.' Why sell something on the floor if you have no intention of selling and then double the price? Of course I walked away from it and spent quintuple on a chair that was worth it - elsewhere. It was the attitude of the owner that turned me off. From that point, I hadn't returned until my mother wanted to visit over Christmas. I noticed at that time the sales people and the owner were all over the place, and they continue to be, in your way when you're trying to view things, and then they look at you like you're in their way. Awful feeling. I tried to give it one more try over my birthday weekend and decided to pick up two necklaces worth over $100 together, to celebrate. The sales lady, new I presume and so incredibly sweet and kind, rang me out seamlessly. She was refreshing to have in the store - the first employee who didn't look at you coldly. I was thrilled to be rung out by her. Then the owner came out and meddled in the business. Why, I don't know - for the other lady was doing absolutely fine. Well, the owner caught, which I didn't, that one of the pieces she rang at $34.00, not $34.99. Therefore, for the entire purchase of over $100, she was short .99 cents. She immediately was demeaning and condescending to her employee. I felt so bad for her. Not only that, she insisted she void my transaction and ring me up again, adding in the .99 cents. This is INSANE. Why wouldn't you just ask me for .99 cents? And when I did offer, she said, 'no we have to do it this way.' When the other sweet sales lady was trying to correct things, as she was flustered, the owner was constantly on her telling her she was doing other things wrong. She wasn't. She made a HUGE deal out of nothing. Further, they thought they gave me back my credit card when she didn't. And then, she 'shows' me the voided receipt and says "see it's voided." She said she'd give me a copy of it. Well, before I closed my wallet, she hadn't given it back to me and I said "can I please have the voided receipt?" She looked at me with that witch of a look, and said "fine - take both." I NEVER HAD THE FIRST ONE?! And now? I have TWO charges on my card and it will take DAYS for the voided one to fall off. I have NEVER seen anyone act so idiotic and so desperate for every penny. She is a witch and I will never return. Hang on to your dignity and don't give her a penny of yours. Now in two encounters with her, I see clearly she's hungry for it. read more

A bit magical to go in the shop - all the lace, shabby chic, sparkly items and natural warm colors make going to the shop an experience in itself. Every time I go to Geneva, I have to step inside. This is my favorite shop! I love how the store makes me feel...welcomed and calm. I always find a treasure or two or more. The ladies really try to help you find the most perfect item. I really appreciate their honesty too. I love the french flair as my house is decorated in all things french. Denise is so friendly and she works hard at making you feel at home. I enjoy the fact that she changes up the decore and is adding more of her very feminine and frilly items to this adorable shop. This is a unique shop and sales people are very helpful and I feel they are honest with you. I drive down from Wisconsin and always try to stop in here. I don't expect personal attention when they are busy. I'm a big girl and know what I like but they always try to make sure you are finding things. Everything in here is unique and different from most other shops. I probably buy something at least 95% of the time I go in to see what's new. I love this place. If it were possible to leave negative stars, I would. I was shocked by the lack of customer service of the 3 unsympathetic workers/owners who refused to consider my return 3 minutes after my purchase. I was shopping for a grey bridesmaid dress and in the very poorly lit dressing room it looked like the right color. On the counter it looked right, too. It was grey with a little purple tint. After purchasing the dress, I stood on the sidewalk in front of the store and pulled the dress out to show it to my husband (probably in their view). We both were surprised that was actually very purple with some grey. I immediately turned back around and asked if I could return it and talk to the bride about some of the other options. They refused to return it and would only do a store credit, reminding me of their policy with an air of condescension. After saying "no" to me a few different ways, they offered to let me pick something with a $10 difference and they'd give me back $10, trying to "work with me." Oh, and they mentioned the costly fees I'll have to pay for running my card twice if they do so ($3 each time). Have I lost you? Yeah. What kind of policy is that? I looked for something around $50 and in this overpriced boutique a tank top costs $50, so I got a different basic dress, the best choice I could find, in exchange for it, and had to pay the difference. Don't get me wrong there are some cute things here, a bit frilly and faux Parisian cowboy for my taste, but the big issue I have is the lack of customer service and friendly presence you hope to find in small boutiques. I pleaded with these women that I needed the money towards the bridesmaid dress I have yet to find and buy, but they insisted they are "a small boutique and just can't do returns," (mind you they're on 3rd Street in downtown Geneva). I understand the place and importance of store policies but surely after having watched me text pictures of dress after dress to the bride and shared with them how long I've been looking for a grey dress, one would expect an "oh my, that's really purple? We should fix our lighting. Of course we'll do a return." Had I returned even a day later I would understand and not spend time on this review, but we're talking about 3 minutes. I think it would have been an understandable exception to make. Based on my experience today, their only interest is profit- not happy or returning customers. They wouldn't have lost anything had they done the return, but now they've lost a customer (and the friends/family she shops with in downtown Geneva). Meanwhile, the stores that have all that cute stuff and similar if not better prices I'll be going to for that dress: JB and Me, Altar'd State, Shopruche.com, Dry Goods, and the Anthropologie sale section. I'm confident I'll have a much better experience, because I have many times before. read more
