Terrible service, lousy enactment of BC Liquor laws. 02/23/2025: Middle-age lady clerk was rude, overtly staring me down & triple-checking my ID. I said "I know I look young, but I've never been ID'd this suspiciously before". She responds with "if that's how YOU feel then that's YOU making yourself feel that way". Long story short, she was a sassy NPC. 02/24/2025: Man in his late 20s/early 30s did not inform me that "minors are not allowed on the premises even if you are their guardian/parent". I came in and told my brother (13 years old) to stand at the front counter. The male clerk said nothing. I came to the front with a 6 pack of Stella. The male clerk says, "Sorry but I have to refuse you service". I come back 10 minutes later after running some errands/waiting on takeout food to speak with the manager. He says "its BC law" and "we can't do anything about it". I mention that it is dangerous to leave young children alone in the middle of downtown nowadays. He again says "we can't do anything" and also mentions that "they sell vapes so minors aren't even allowed on the premises"... but "we also can't advertise that we sell vapes". Here's an idea. If minors aren't allowed on the premises because this store PROFILES its customers based on appearance/age, then INFORM that customer of those policies AS SOON AS THEY STEP onto the premises. Do not wait for them to grab their items and then refuse service after they've WASTED their time when you are going to DENY SERVICE anyways. read more

Customer service is always friendly and helpful, but yesterday it was outstanding. The woman working there accommodated my mobility scooter by moving a display case to make it easier for me to reach the checkout, walked around the counter to hand me my purchase, and opened the door for me. So much whining on these reviews lol Listen, if you're looking for a liquor store with a tremendous selection of GOOD craft and import beer, this is the place (along with Brewery Creek in Mt. Pleasant) Anyone who drinks good beer is prepared to (and used to) spending $$ on it. I couldn't find Chimay anywhere else in the city, but this place had it. Whoa liquor in Vancouver is spendy! I understand heavily taxing liquor because it's not the best habit to have, but when you're a wine freak like me, it can take a hefty toll on your wallet. To give you an example, a bottle of Meomi Pinot noir would normally run me $19 or less at home in Honolulu, but at this liquor store it was $30. Still, you can't have a nice evening dinner at home without wine so we settled on a decent Italian wine for $25 which was on sale from $32. The sales people were very helpful when we inquired about a lambic for my lovely mother. The store itself is gorgeous, clean and very well organized. read more

Do not buy liquor here if a government run liquor store is open. I just spent $6 too much on a 2-6 of Jim Beam. It was close to $10 difference on the Jack Daniels. I could have got practically a 40 for what I paid for a 2-6. Disappointed. That's a huge effin difference. Enough to not support the little guy. I'm sorry. You bent me over. This is a comparison of pre-tax prices. I am not using the post-tax price at Denman Liquor and comparing it to the pre-tax price at a government liquor store. The above analysis is still accurate. At retail, on the shelf, a bottle of JD is almost $10 cheaper at the government liquor store. Even if the taxes were not reflected, last I checked, I wouldn't be paying $10 in taxes on a $29 bottle of booze. Go government if cost is of any concern. read more

Horrible! This is the largest Liquor store in the area and the closest to my house (half a block away), but I go out of my way NOT to shop here and walk the extra five blocks to get to another one, simply because the experience here is THAT bad. They sell mostly wine, but they don't have a sweetness code on any of the labelling so there is no way to know if you are getting sugar water or actual wine. The selection is also very odd, and decidedly "American." They also sell a lot of beer, but again the selection is just weird and you shouldn't expect to find the same brands you'd find anywhere else. I once went in with a friend to buy a half-sack of our favourite beers each (nothing exotic at all), and they didn't carry it and the staff had never even heard of either one. Another time I went in looking for Scotch and again while they had an (unmarked) liquor section with 20 different types of Scotch they didn't have Glenn Fiddich, which is probably the worlds most common and popular scotch and in fact the brand i was looking for. The staff are really clueless and have no actual knowledge of the products they sell and can also be very condescending in general, especially the owner. read more

The blonde female worker took my ID and said it was fake even though it wasn't. She said it was too thin and flimsy to be real. She told her coworker and he agreed. They both reserved the right to sell me alcohol. She threatened to call the cops on me and had her coworker called security to kick me out. I remember her coworker saying "GET THE F*** OUT OF MY STORE" and everyone looking at me like I'm some minor trying to buy alcohol. It was embarrassing. I asked for my ID back and they wouldn't give it to me. They said I had to have another piece of ID to get it back. My sister had to come in to the store to show them proof of my age with a passport and how the new drivers licences were thinner than they use to by showing hers and my dad's as proof that my ID wasn't fake. The worker then said "we found out it was actually real and I don't need you or your fathers ID to know" and gave my ID back. She didn't bother to apologize or look at us when talking. I would rate this store 0 stars if I could and give 1 star if you would fire her and that long haired dude who wore a beanie. read more

Great selection of local craft beers and mostly everything else I need. A bit pricier then other places, but not enough for me to go elsewhere. Huge plus is that they are dog friendly, so if I'm taking my pup out for a walk, I can quickly stop in here and not have to tie him outside. He usually scores treats as well. If you want to buy overpriced booze in a cramped store full of tweakers, hobos, and drunks, this is the place to go. The poor staff are stressed out of their minds trying to serve people while watching that stoned guy at the back rocking back and forth staring into the coolers. If you browse long enough you will see someone steal alcohol or potentially start a fist fight. Save yourself the hassle and head up to the liquor store on Robson. It's not that far away and is much better shopping experience. read more

I went in there on the evening of Friday 16. I wanted to look at their BC VQA wines for something different. It was my partners Birthday on Saturday and he loves BC VQA wine. I realized I had 6 min before close. I was moving fast. I looked through everything and decided to get the Painted Rock Merlot which was $34 before tax. As I held it in my hand and was going to pay the manger/owner runs over to me and very loudly, rudely and abruptly tells me that I'm holding them up. That the store is closed and that I should hurry up! I remember being shocked at his attitude. I work in the hospitality and I know that is not the way we talk to customers. He didn't even ask me if I needed help or advice. Absolutely nothing! I thought to myself I don't want to give them my business, so I turned to the man and said, "I will come back when I have more time" He knew I was mad and all he did was shack his head at me Also, as I walked out I said to the man, "don't you give your customers a few minutes to decide and pay? As I walked up the street I looked at my time and it was 10:58pm. It wasn't even 11pm when he rudely pushed me out the door. There lose!!!Anyways very bad service. Will not go back. read more

I never went to the original location, but this space and the renovations that were done in the new location look great. Store provides good customer service and a pretty good selection of boutique products. The location is also very convenient. read more
