Having used this guy as my dentist for six years now, I can't find a single thing to complain about. Every checkup & cleaning has gone over easy and painlessly, plus he has a pleasant demeanor and seems to give sensible advice. To me, Dr. Wu's office is the definition of a no-frills, top quality dental office. I've been to over a dozen dental offices in my lifetime over several decades. This one is my favorite. Dr. Wu's website shows that his pedigree includes a UC Berkeley chemical engineering undergraduate degree (a historically rank top two or three chemical engineering university in the world) and UCSF DDS; thus, he was a most hard-working, high achieving student before his undergraduate years through his graduate studies. This is significant. At his top dental school, he has been exposed to cutting edge dentistry education. This all is supposed to translate to top quality. Indeed, over my past several routine dental appointments with him, nothing has veered from this impression. I particularly appreciate the no-frills and polite customer service/"bedside manner" of this office. Liz, who works at the front desk, is also polite without any extra over-selling. Easy experience. Routine cleaning appts are always short, concise, & comfortable. Dennis is friendly, honest, and helpful. He was the first person to teach me to properly floss. When discussing possible realignment treatment, he gave me a thorough analysis of all of my options, and did not recommend the costly & complex option because it was not necessary (would only have been an aesthetic choice). Still, he explained all my options, the procedures themselves, their time and cost investments, and potential benefits so that I was informed enough to ultimately make my own choice. I appreciate that he didn't push me into getting Invisalign or veneers, but still explained both as possibilities in detail (I was thinking about correcting a small gap in my teeth). The office will remind you when your cleaning is due via email, which is helpful for me because I can forget these things or put them off. Overall, very happy with my experience here. I went to this dental office for the first time today for a cleaning. The office was bright and cheery, the receptionist was pleasant and welcoming, and the hygienist did a very good job on my teeth. I can't comment on Dr. Wu's skills as a dentist because he didn't do any work on my teeth, but when he examined them, his assessment was in line with that of a competent dentist I had in the past. read more

Called on a Tuesday to see if I could get in a last minute teeth cleaning for Wednesday and they were closed! I left a message and Dr. Wu was nice enough to call me back the same day and scheduled me for noon the following day. Great customer service! :) He did a great job with my teeth cleaning, too. Was up for my 6 month dental checkup and not able to see my regular dentist in Chicago, decided to look for one here in Palo Alto, CA. And glad I was able to find Dr Wu. To my surprise, he performed the best teeth cleaning I had in a long time, very meticulous and passionate on ensuring that your teeth is in best shape it can be. He told me upfront that he will dig deep in the gums to see below my gum lines and ensured me that if the procedure was uncomfortable, let him know. I'm so glad I found Dr. Wu when I moved to the Bay Area and had to leave my previous dentist of 20+ years. In addition to doing all the scaling and polishing himself (including super thorough hand scaling), he is absolutely meticulous with the oral exam. I have sensitive gums and appreciate Dr. Wu's gentle approach. Some hygienists have left my mouth really sore in the past, but I've never had an uncomfortable procedure here. In addition to routine cleanings, I've had a wisdom tooth removed with no issues. I feel well taken care of here and know that I'm getting a high standard of dental care. I communicated with Dr Wu by phone as well as through email. I was very impressed at his professionalism and thoughtfulness. I was looking for a new dentist for my mother in law who has a complicated implant bridge system. Although Dr Wu was not able to do the work that she needed and she did not become one of his patients, he took the time to carefully explain her options and pointed us to the appropriate specialists. I went for a cleaning with Dr. Wu today. I decided to give him a try as I wasn't that pleased with the cleanings I had at my previous dentist in Palo Alto. It was always done by a hygienists (and only occasionally having the dentist come in to do a 'check'). I was pleasantly surprised with is that he did the cleaning himself, and was very professional and asked if I was doing ok throughout the cleaning. I also asked a few questions about other dental things (i.e.: graphing and retainers), and he gave me very honest and open answers, based on his professional experience and knowledge. Not just trying to sell me on the most expensive procedures/options. While his office isn't super fancy, it is very clean and very well maintained. I originally first met Dr. Wu at San Antonio Dental, many, many years ago. After he quit working there, my mom stopped bringing us to the dentist, because she couldn't find one that was as good as he was. The replacement dentist they had at San Antonio dental was not good at all (note do NOT go there). Fast forward many years, and we noticed that a Dr. Wu had opened a dentistry near us. We go online and check, and sure enough it is him! When we first went he, he even still recognized us as former patients he used to have. His office, while small, is really modern and clean. He is really good with his teeth cleanings, and has never made me feel like throwing up or gagging afterwards, which many previous dentists have. He is very fast and thorough with his work. He always remembers you, and talks to you in a personal manner. He never recommends dental work that you don't need, and he will always tell you his true honest opinion on something. I've been going to Dr. Wu for a year or two, switching from the mobile van that used to come to my work. It's such a difference to have a dentist that has really gotten to know me and my history. Dr. Wu is super smart (graduated from UCSF, one of the top-rated dental programs). He's also very friendly, and handles the regular check-ups personally. He's great about checking in during the visit to see how I'm doing and making sure he's not causing any pain, etc. Additionally, I've found him very candid in what type of procedures I need and what type I don't, he's certainly not trying to oversell me on unneeded services. The office is relaxed and easy to get to right off El Camino in Palo Alto. Hours are flexible and include 8am before work options. His assistant Liz is also very friendly and responsive in setting up appointments. I would definitely recommend Dr. Wu. and his dental practice. I'm glad to have a relationship with a dentist who knows me again, after a few years of hopping around dentists at my mobile dental van option. read more

It had been a while since I'd been to the dentist, so naturally i was a little nervous. I've had some bad experiences in the past that left me with a few unnecessary cavity fillings. Since I was on a project in San Fran and really needed a cleaning, I went to see Dr. Wu based on recommendations from friends. I must say, I was very pleasantly surprised with Dr Wu. First of all, Dr Wu took his time to make sure all my questions/concerns were answered. He made me believe that he genuinely cared about what I have to say and wasn't treating me as just another number from his patient database. Secondly, I truly appreciate how there were no attempts at selling me upsell treatments (trust me I've had many experiences in the past where the dentist tried really hard on pushing extra treatments). Most importantly, Dr Wu actually does the cleaning himself! I can't remember the last time I got a cleaning from the actual dentist. He was thorough and gentle with the cleaning and always checking to make sure I was comfortable. The office itself looked brand new and clean & the staff seemed nice as well. I highly recommend him for his care and making a detailed job in teeth cleaning. He is on time, fast and through. He did the cleaning himself and did not try to drill another hole in my mouth to charge me more. He didn't offer any unnecessary dental work. Additionally, he has a clean modern office where you can see your x-rays on the screen and actually see what is wrong or right by zooming in. He is understanding and walks you through the images. When I was there, he had a call from his patients about an emergency when she was out of state. He took care of the case on the phone as much as he can help. That reflects how he will respond if you call him later about an emergency which is another good sign. Several months ago, I was entertaining a friend who was visiting from out of the country. During his visit, he developed this soreness in the back of his mouth. Initially, he was going to wait until he returned home, but it eventually got so bad, he could not even open his mouth. Dr. Wu was referred to me from another friend of mine who had been a patient of his for a long time now. We called Dr. Wu's office. It seemed like he already knew what the problem was based on what we told him over the phone. Dr. Wu saw my friend and told him that he had a gum infection. He said that it was cause by his wisdom tooth. He gave him some medication and a mouth rise, and within a few days, he started to feel much better and was able to enjoy the rest of his stay. Really friendly and down-to-earth dentist! I just moved from Chicago so having to find a new doctor, dentist, etc. has been rough but I was definitely pleased with the service at Wu Family Dental and will return for future cleanings :) Dr. Wu is very understanding and won't push you into unnecessary treatment, etc. He is very laid back and makes conversation to have the cleaning/dental work process run smoothly. He is very thorough with the cleaning. W hen he said he would use the electric cleaner, I was worried it would be loud and painful, but it was a smooth process. I also appreciated how he went back and took out the more hard-to-reach plaque places by hand. In addition, all the concerns I had about my dental hygiene were addressed in a friendly manner. I felt very comfortable talking to him and I like how he is not condescending. Rather, he will try to get to the root of the matter and will make sure you are happy before you leave. I was also worried about my insurance and the costs that would come with the cleanings but he said if there were any issues when the insurance paperwork arrived to just contact him and he would take care of it. Parking can be hard to find on the street if you come at a peak time but there is a lot around the corner that will always have parking. Definitely come to Dr. Wu! The first time I went to see Dr. Wu, I was surprised (and suspicious) by how few people in his office, just a front desk lady and the doctor himself. His office has all modern equipment, bright natural light, and very clean. Just not a lot of assistants and back office people running around like my previous dentist's office. The prior couple of dentists I have used in the last 30 years had at least 3 to 5 dental assistants so that they could maximum their time (not mine) and money by seeing each patient for no more than 5 to 10 minutes and book the maximum number of patients they could, which I thought every dentist does. But Dr. Wu is different. When you have a 30 minutes appointment with Dr. Wu, you get 30 minutes of an UCSF trained dentist Dr. Wu's time. He does everything himself, which is a totally new concept to me. He does not double book or stagger patients. So there is no waiting room full of frustrated patients. Just one patient after another running on time. One thing I like about Dr. Wu is that he is not greedy. Even though his office in Palo Alto must be costing him a fortune to rent or own (I am not sure which one), his price is quite reasonable. I don't have insurance. So he gives a discount, and is pretty affordable. I guess by running his office economically with minimum overhead, he can still charge reasonably without compromising patient care. And he does pretty good dental job too. Even my hyper-sensitive husband has no problem with Dr. Wu's work, which is rare. read more

The one time I had a dental emergency he quickly got me. Also, there is no upselling for unnecessary services - though he will work with you to maximize your insurance. For years I had been going to a dentist that would always have me do work that she said was necessary and needed to be done ASAP. I eventually got tired of my dental insurance declining services and me paying out of pocket I decided to move to a dentist closer to my home. The insurance I was using at the time had Dr. Wu in network so I tried him. 2 years later I continue to go to him, just left his office 2 hours ago after a cleaning. Unlike most dentist he actually does his own cleanings, he is very familiar with your teeth and truly is dedicated to making sure you only get work done that is needed and will tell you alternatives to treatments to save money. He even answers the phone when I call. I have my whole family going to him and they all love him and Liz (his cohort). I was in the bay area for a friend's wedding when I noticed worsening of a toothache that I had noticed the week prior. It got to the point where I couldn't sleep without taking lots of ibuprofen. And I couldn't eat without immense pain. Thankfully Dr. Wu was able to see me on an emergency basis on short notice on a Saturday morning. He was compassionate and professional. He immediately diagnosed a gum abscess and drained it , providing me with immediate relief. I was able to enjoy the rest of the weekend and the wedding without any pain.
