BUYER BEWARE!!! There's a reason this place has so many negative reviews however I unfortunately did not read the reviews prior to doing business with these con artists. I recently ordered 3 yards of their screened top soil for delivery. After placing my order, I called to confirm a delivery date and time however no one answered the phone or returned the messages I left requesting a callback. The next day, the owner shows up at my home, unannounced, to deliver the soil. I found it odd that he would just show up without confirmation, especially considering we're in the middle of a quarantine. As it was raining outside, I pointed him to the spot on my front lawn where I wanted him to dump the soil. He backed up the truck, dumped the soil and took off before I could blink an eye. It then proceeded to rain for two straight days so I was unable to make it outside to inspect the soil. When it finally stopped raining and I was preparing to level out the soil, I quickly realized why he took off so quickly. What they delivered was anything but screened top soil. Instead, what I received was a pile of dirt filled with mulch, rocks, nails, plastic and glass. I've included a pic that shows just a small sample of the things I found in my "screened" soil. I immediately called the store and spoke to a woman named Cheryl. I explained to her what I found and she stated she was going to have someone come inspect the delivery within the hour. Two hours passed without anyone showing up or calling so I called again. Cheryl answered and said she was trying get in touch with her driver and that she would call me right back. 45 minutes later I called again. Cheryl then says "oh, he hasn't arrived? He said we was just around the corner. Let me find out where he is and call you back." After another 45 minutes, I call again and Cheryl tells me, "my driver is tied up trying to fix a flat tire." After I expressed my frustration, she says "I'm only about 15 minutes away so I'll come by myself." After about 35 minutes, Cheryl pulls up to my home. I show her the pile of what they call "screened soil" and all of the objects I found inside. She stares at the pile, perplexed and says "oh, they must have delivered you the wrong soil. This looks to be our garden blend. This mistake has happened before and I'm so frustrated right now." Needless to say, I wasn't buying the crap she was shoveling so I pointed out the fact that regardless of whether this was their screened top soil or garden blend, there was no way either of them were properly screened considering all of the objects I found in it. She stated that she was going to speak with the owner to have someone come back out and take the soil and replace it with what I ordered. I asked her when I could expect a call back with a resolution and she promised to call me back by the end of the evening. That was 9 days ago. I haven't heard a peep from anyone at Denny Wiggers since. Truthfully, the moment Cheryl drove away from my house I knew she had no intention of doing anything for me. Lesson learned. For anyone looking to do business with these crooks, DON'T DO IT. And for anyone from Denny Wiggers who may be reading this, I am now about to become your worst nightmare. I will ensure that EVERYONE knows what type of fraudulent business you are, beginning with the Better Business Bureau. read more

Can't give them 5 stars. Ordered 20 yards of mulch to be delivered and installed. They didn't show on the day scheduled for delivery and didn't call until late in the day. They made it right the next day by taking some money off the bill and charging for only 18 yards. The two man crew worked hard and got the job done in reasonable time. And there is nothing that spruces up the looks of the landscaping than 20 yards of mulch. Makes the house and yard look great. The owner came by when the workers had finished and was very apologetic for the lapse in communication. Under the circumstances, I would do business with them again. read more

Worst customer service ever. They delivered fire wood and in the process of dumping it ripped down our driveway basketball hoop. The delivery guy was very nice about it but Denny himself has been non responsive and refused to take any action for over a year now. Says will fix it and doesn't. blows us off. Says it was old. Won't replace it. It was old but it worked and Is a solid in ground hoop. Literally snapped it in half with the truck. I would never go to this business again and encourage others to avoid as well. Wish I could give 0 or negative star rating... Years ago we purchased a beautiful dark purple rhododendron here only to discover the root ball was broken in half (possibly dropped before our purchase?). It never thrived but we were lucky it seems to have survived. I wouldn't have said anything - except for our experience today at Denny Wiggers - and my wife and I will never go back there again. We stopped by on the way to visit my wife's deceased parents grave on her Dad's birthday to purchase something to leave there. I stayed in the car doing something on my phone while the wife looked for some help. After a few minutes my wife appeared at the car with flowers and the man we thought was the owner. I opened the door to apologize for not getting out to help, to see the owner asking my wife if I was her father, then imitated me acting like he had an addiction to using his phone. My wife walked around the car to get in, and the man followed her, pushing my door shut and opening her door for her. Then on the way to the graveyard my wife tells me he was making numerous comments to her about how she is much more beautiful than any of the grave coverings he had and she was such a beautiful woman, and had grabbed the flowers from my wife to take them back to the car for her because she should not carry them. My wife also said she would not have bought anything from him if it weren't for the fact that the other places nearby that sell such things were all closed. Creepy an bordering on sexual harrassment. I am not one to write reviews, but I had the best experience with DW. They went above and beyond to help me. The owner is such a caring guy with a big heart. Their expertise, advice and truly understanding my needs was so helpful to me. Very grateful for the service and timely delivery. Everything was delivered as promised (even on a day they normally don't work) to help me because I had hired someone to install the material. The topsoil and mulch was excellent quality. Wish we read these reviews earlier. Received a full cord of wood that takes up a huge portion of our patio. We make a lot of fire so this normally isn't an issue. What IS an issue is that non of it burns. Not a single piece. It's almost as if the logs have been sprayed with flame retardant as the flames from our Duraflame logs burn around them. Despite continuous efforts to get this resolved, we keep getting told "we'll take care of it, give us a day." This "give us a day" can has been kicked down the road every day for a few weeks now. Got a fire pit for my backyard. Decided to have some socially distanced get togethers for friends and family. Went to Denny wiggars to fill my suv with fire wood. The man who serviced me was full of questions about who I was. Quite mosey actually. He was also unmasked which made me quite uncomfortable when I had to pay inside. He also gave me an unsolicited lecture about how Biden was spending too much money which " we" couldn't afford. And how he had tried to employ heroin addicts that used their stimulus money to buy more drugs. All that would have been ok if he hadn't sold me a car full of damp wood that wouldn't light and smoked my guests out of the back yard. Review based on firewood - I ordered 1/2 cord mid December for delivery the next day. Service and delivery were prompt and courteous. However, once I stacked it in the rack specifically for a 1/2 cord it seemed a little short. There were also many pieces (1 out of every 4) of pine as well as unseasoned pieces measuring over 35% on my moisture meter. They should not advertise seasoned hardwood if it's not what is being delivered. read more

Had party of 15 waiting for awesome pre New Years party outside. After 90 minutes of using every type of accelerant, this wood would not burn. Terrible experience. We bought 1 cord of wood and it was very overpriced however as first time homebuyers we did not realize that at the time. ALL of the wood delivered was wet and would not burn. We had to argue with Denny and he finally told us he would bring us some additional dry wood (an additional half of what we had originally bought) to last us till summer. Well, they delivered this wood and it was about one sixth of what we had originally ordered. Argued with him again and he agreed to take half the wood back and replace it with "good dry wood". After my husband and I called for weeks they delivered kindling. It's a shame to see that we aren't the only ones taken for a ride. I ordered a cord of wood from the website for home delivery on a Friday, paying by credit card via PayPal. After not hearing anything regarding a delivery date, I phoned them the following Tuesday. The person I spoke with sounded exasperated, but advised she could deliver the wood on Friday. We moved the cars from the driveway on Friday, but the wood never arrived. I figured things may have been slightly delayed and that the wood would probably show up the next morning. When Noon passed on Saturday with no delivery or call, I phoned again. The same person I spoke with earlier in the week advised that she would check with the drivers to see what happened and would phone me in a couple of minutes. That call never came. At about 2:45pm I phoned again, and the same person answered. I said I was awaiting a call back about my wood delivery. 'Your name'? The person advised that the reason I didn't get a callback was that she was still trying to confirm whether I would get the order 'tonight'. I requested that the order be cancelled and that I receive a refund. I was told 'we didn't charge you'. I mentioned that I had been charged via PayPal. The person told me she would try to get to it today. I said I'd like a refund immediately, as every step of the transaction had been misrepresented. The person agreed and we concluded the call- no apology for the experience. 5 minutes later I received a call asking for my order number, as she couldn't find it in the computer. We got a delivery of wood. Waited all day and was told they could not deliver that day. They finally delivered around 7 after we complained. The wood is all kindling sized and wet and my wood stove eats it up. I was told they would deliver some regular size logs to replace those but they haven't. I ordered a 1/2 cord of wood from Denny Wiggers Garden Center/Maggdens. What was delivered was significantly less. When I complained I was told the shortage would be made up. However after being assured several times over a few days that the delivery was scheduled, nothing was dropped off. Also, when I was splitting the pieces (there was pine mixed in as well ) it became obvious the wood had not been seasoned at all and probably will not be suitable for burning this coming fall/winter. Bottom line: if you want to pay top dollar for your wood, have it freshly cut, receive a shorted order, be strung along with promises of a delivery that will not materilaize, then Maggdens is your place. This guy built the deck of my house for the previous owner. The supporting beam needed to be replaced. He came and sold me other garden related work and promised he would order a custom beam. Well, that was 8 months ago. No beam, no replacement, no call nor explanation. He lied to me and my wife repeatedly and told me 'screw you" when I asked him what he wanted on a T-shirt I promised to buy him during my trip to San Francisco. Logs that are too wet to burn. I called him. He came by and brought a few logs that burned fine. Then when he left the fire went out within 20 minutes. I told him. He blamed it on my fireplace -- which was fine before his delivery. I paid to have my fireplace inspected, and they said the fireplace is fine but the logs are "green". I picked up firewood last week, completely overpaid, and wood was not seasoned. It was so wet and smoky when burned. I paid $40 for less than 40 pieces of wood, and was told that wood was hard to find at this point. I was a loyal customer, but will not be returning again. I am the manager of a landscaping company in the tri-state area. I read some of the negative reviews about Denny Wiggers after I had placed my order for a face cord of firewood for one of my clients--so I called to express my concerns. The associate on the phone kindly informed me that they were aware of the reviews and that the company rectified the complaints of the dissatisfied customers. Asking about the claim that the wood was 'wet' as mentioned in someone's post, she also told me that there are sometimes ends of trees that don't fully dry and on this rare occasion, the crew unintentionally loaded some of these pieces onto the truck. The company had corrected this order as well. Regarding the order I placed, she guaranteed me that the wood was dried for at least five months and was given an extra kiln drying. Sure enough, the firewood was delivered to my client on time, without any problems. The client went out of his way to tell me how happy he was with the product, how it was stacked, and the overall professionalism of the delivery. We will be using Denny Wiggers again. read more

I had a simple order of mulch delivered to my house recently, and it could not have gone worse than it did. The driver insisted his three axel dump truck could fit in our narrow driveway and ended up getting it stuck between our house and the neighbors retention wall. Both properties had extensive damage. Denny came to the house and had no problem destroying our front porch, which is over 100 years old by the way, as well as the neighbor's retention wall to get his truck out. He reassured us that he would make it right and we took him at his word. Instead, the past month has been filled with dozens of attempts to contact Mr. Wiggers, failed follow ups, and embarrassing craftsmanship by his team to try and patch the damage. His team was obviously ill equipped to repair the damage from the beginning, but Mr. Wiggers insisted he could do it. Now that it has been over a month, we chose to go through insurance for repairs, but again Mr. Wiggers is full of promises he doesn't keep and continues to fail to follow up even though he is legally obligated to provide us with his insurance information for the damage. Long story short - don't trust this man, don't trust his company, and stay as far away as possible unless you enjoy having your property demolished. We are still waiting on a response from Mr. Wiggers and plan to pursue all legal options available. read more

We just ordered a cord of seasoned wood from Denny. It is definitely not a full cord of wood! And it is definitely not seasoned! Denny delivered it himself and when I questioned him about the amount of wood he actually argued with me that it was a full cord. It is so green that we have to use a hair dryer to keep it burning. As a garden center Mr Wiggins has some different items-it is not a full service type of center to get 10 flats of X but if you want to find something different for a change go here. He is a landscape designer (main business) and his projects on his web site are lovely. I have never used him for design but based on his experience he would be on my longer list to check out. read more

Seems like an echo in here, but we rec'd a cord of wood from DW on Dec 28th, 2019. Similar to other stories below the wood was not seasoned, yet they promised it was when I made the order. Over the last 2 weeks I have emailed or called at least 7x and have either received no response or told they'd get back to me. As recently as yday (Jan 8) I was promised additional wood yet they will not confirm day/time or amounts. I recommend finding an alternative source of firewood. read more

Because DW is an old business in my home town, I chose them when I moved to Massachusetts and needed flower placements at George Washington Cemetery. FOR YEARS I ordered monthly placements at two graves during summer, and blankets at Christmas. Then, after seeimg these reviews, to test them I ordered a placement while visiting in Paramus. Phoning FROM THE GRAVE SITES I was assured the flowers had been delivered but no flowers were there. When I confronted them with the facts, flustered, they said they'd send the flowers right over. The first time I used this company, I ordered firewood which was delivered and stacked nicely. Problem is the wood was not seasoned and wouldn't burn, so there went the idea of that. Before realizing the wood I got delivered was garbage, I ordered mulch from Denny. I was told when placing my order the truck could only fit 12 yards and therefore they would deliver that. The day the material was supposed to be delivered and installed, it wasn't as promised. When called, I was told it had been delivered and dumped in my driveway. As I stood in my driveway and looked around, nothing had been delivered. When I told them I was home, they said it would be delivered within a hour. I paid a upfront deposit, and then upon completion was charged for 15 yards. I asked why I was charged for 15 yards, and was told that was how much got delivered. The problem is, per my security cameras the truck only came one time. I guess they forgot they already told me the truck can only hold 12 yards. When I questioned them, I was told they would refund me the 3 yards. That never happened so I had to dispute the charges with my bank to get my money back. Had mulch delivered and installed. The team did a great job. Edging is perfect. Mulch us evenly distributed. Most of last years mulch is gone from leaf throwing and there were many uneven and wavy section throughout our flower beds. The team evened out all of the unevenness. Flower beds looks alive again. WHAT A DISASTER!!!! I am so sad to have witnessed the demise of this business. I have been using them for several years for wreaths for George Washington Cemetery. They were always perfect and beautiful. This year I should have known better. I called for days and never got a call back. Finally was able to place my order same as always, one feminine and one traditional. Went to pick them up and both were the same, they had pink balls and a red bow, not only ugly but had no double sided greens that is required to hang on the marble. They proceeded to GLUE magnolia leaves on the back assuring me that they would be acceptable. The cemetery basically laughed at me saying they just rejected these from Denny last week and he should know better. I went back to the shop Denny told he they would "Green them Up" and deliver later in the day. This was Saturday, today is Thursday, I have called for the last 3 days asking to make sure that the wreaths were delivered and accepted. I was assured that I would get a call back each day but never did. I finally spoke to the woman who is "only one who is doing orders as everyone else bailed" I can see why!! She had no idea what the status was, first saying they were re-produced, then offering to upgrade me to a square wreath which I did not want, she had absolutely no clue what was going on. I said either just verify the wreaths are accepted at the cemetery or give me a refund. She said fine I will give you a refund and hung up on me.
