We come here for a specific dog food. Red Barn which we happened upon when the vendor was on site here. While we have been coming here for many years the vendor demos are quite nice and allow a chance to try out different dog foods in trial size packaging. Dennys is known for their vast selection of dog, cat and other exotic pet foods. The staff is always friendly and very knowledgeable. The added bonus is they have dog wash here with two washing stations. This is one of my favorite go-to pet stores. read more

I bought six fish, specifically asked for all male. Two died a day after the month grace period. The other four were all the same except they actually gave me three females and one male. So now I have three pregnant fish with way too many fish eggs in my tank. And i called to ask what to do with ab this because ive never had three pregnant fish at once and i wanted all male to avoid this issue all together. But when I called, the first person i talked to was extremely nice and easy to talk to. The sec person repeatedly cut me off while i was trying to ask questions because god forbid i forgot the actual name of the specific breed of fish and it's just not possible that happened. We've been customers of Denny's Pet World for decades (mostly for fish), but today's visit reminded me that I haven't given credit where it's due. Last year, our kids were given two gerbils who were around four years old, so when nature took its course (RIP Nibbles and Snugs), they were heartbroken. After holding a memorial service and cleaning out the cage, they looked up at me with hopeful eyes and a "Dad... do you think maybe...?" Yeah yeah, OK. There are lots of big box pet stores in the area, but I'm making the assumption that a smaller local shop likely treats their animals better and hopefully sources more ethically too. In any case, I'd rather shop local when I can and the prices are competitive. I called to see if they had any gerbils available and Aela let us know that they had some males in store. She said to ask for her when we came by. About an hour later, we dropped by and found Aela. She brought the gerbils out in their enclosure and was great not only with the animals, but my very excited children as well. She answered our questions and seemed to really enjoy her job, which makes it so much more fun for everyone involved. She took care of getting them in a box with some bedding and sent us off with smiles all around. I'm so thankful that Denny's is part of the neighborhood, and for great employees like Aela who make the experience fun. read more

Squirrel food heaven! Okay, I know - squirrel food, not really your typical pet food review. But I've been feeding squirrels for a long time (I lived in Ohio for almost 40 years ), and have tried a fair share of different foods for them. We were out getting our Christmas tree a couple of weeks ago, and happened to drive by Denny's Pet World. It just *looked* like the kind of place that would have some good options for supporting my (super cool) hobby, and boy it did not disappoint! Their own branded bag of "squirrel trail mix" that I bought is full of walnuts, cashews, and pistachios and frankly looks good enough for me to snack on (don't worry I won't!). And it was really well priced! So if you're a backyard wildlife enthusiast like me, this is definitely the spot! The store is HUGE and I also picked up a couple of great cat toys for my indoor kitties. I didn't have a chance to get around the whole store, but IMO it's definitely worth another trip out from Seattle just to check out what they've got, so I can't wait to go back. read more

They have all been friendly and helpful for the most part and to the best of their abilities. In that time, there have been 2 employees that really stood out when I think of great customer service. One was the old Aquatics manager who was there for a very long time but recently departed a few years ago. The other is Ben, who also works in the Aquatics department. Ben's customer service has always gone above and beyond. Ben is always friendly, patient, courteous, and extremely knowledgeable. In my opinion, Ben is an essential part of Dennys Aquatics, and I've recommended many of my clients to go to Dennys and ask for him if they need any assistance with their aquariums. read more

Denny's Pet World is great! After living in the area for years I decided to give Denny's a try. I feel like I hit the jackpot. We purchased our first ever cat tree and what a score!! Not only does our cat love his new tree but we also got several other supplies; litter, treats, toys, food. Needless to say we are set for the next few months! I really like how they have free food samples for your four legged furbabies. This was a great opportunity for us to try out new foods for our cats. I've been to chain pet stores but found that the staff rarely knew much about the fish they sold and often seemed unaware of fish that weren't healthy. Finally found Denny's and never looked back. For real--these guys know their stuff. And, busy as they are, they will always stop to help you, answer questions, and help you find what you need. Ben, in particular, knows so much about all the fish and genuinely enjoys sharing the knowledge. He never fails to be kind, helpful, and positive--and, thanks to him, my fish are healthy and happy and my aquarium colorful and lively. Note - this review is focused mainly on the fish section of the store. Wow oh wow, does this place have nice rocks and wood décor! Upon stocking up my big aquarium tank, I knew that I wanted to get some décor and buy some fishes. A few people recommended this store to me and overall, this is definitely a place I would recommend when it comes to buying aquarium décor and hard to find fishes. Layout of the store is pretty simple. Once you get in, head straight to the back of the store for the fish section. If you're looking for wood and/or rock décor, there is a HUGE selection available at reasonable prices. Rocks are priced by the pound and there are many different types of rock. As for the wood, prices are based on the type of wood and size. In addition, if you want to see more wood than what's offered in the aisle, check out the fish tank area for more options or simply ask an employee who could show you what's in storage for the wood pieces. Fishes: For the longest time ever, been searching for a particular type of fish and I was super thrilled that Denny's Pet World had it. Fortunately, I was able to get some of the fishes I want while the others were out of stock. For freshwater fish, there's a pretty large amount vs the limited amount of the saltwater fishes. In terms of health, most of the tanks were healthy with a few that were closed off for quarantined purposes. In addition, prices were pretty reasonable and worth the splurge for hard to find fishes. Plants: Selection is a bit limited but in general, pretty healthy looking. I would advise calling in to check on the plants since it seems like this place sells them out pretty quickly! Service: Despite the mixed reviews on Yelp, the employees I talked with were pretty nice and knowledgeable about fishes. Overall, definitely enjoyed visiting this shop and will swing by again for the décor and fishes! read more

TLDR: small local pet store with nice variety. Parking: small lot. It can be difficult to exit the parking lot during rush hour traffic, especially if you want to turn left--you might be waiting a while for an opening. Fantastic local pet shop that carries a little bit of everything. The staff are very knowledgeable and the aquarium staff have a plethora of information for you if you want to start up an aquarium! I love how they carry just about any dog food brand here. I always like giving my pup variety and I could get lost in this place with all the options I have! One thing to mention is that there is always at least one tank with sick fish in the aquarium section. I have visited several times and there is always a new tank with sick fish that are being quarantined until further notice. I'm not sure if it's a chronic problem the store has or if the breeders are giving them ill fish. I purchased fish a few years back and they ended up dying of mycobacteriosis (diagnosed by my veterinarian), which is scary because people can catch it! Unfortunately, most cases of mycobacteriosis in fish is terminal or is difficult to treat :( read more

Denny's Pet World is the best pet store I have ever been to. All of the staff are extremely nice and helpful, and have extensive knowledge of the animals and their needs. Their range of animals available is impressive (all small animals - rabbits, Guinea pigs, birds, bugs, snakes, spiders, smaller rodents, and many-many- kinds of aquatic animals.) The room dedicated to fish is one of my favorite stops- all of the fish tanks are so well maintained. I especially love the betta fish setups. Every single fish has it's own nice filtered tank. I've mostly visited to pick up supplies for my fish, and the staff has been very helpful with suggestions to keep my tank healthy. The best part of Denny's (in my opinion) is definitely the bunnies. There's a raised enclosure with a movable top so that you can pet the bunnies if they're feeling confident. I love stopping in to say hi to the animals :) read more

For Fish only (they do a great job with bunnies and other animals) I've had a fish tank for almost 2 years now and moved to Bellevue area in October. I've gotten fish from Denny's 3 times now. The last 2 times I've purchased fish, not only have the majority of the fish died but both times the new fish caused a sickness. First time was fungus which I have medicine for and was able to treat. This last time it was something I've never seen in having my tank for 2 years. It's now killed 20% of my tank including my show fish that's been alive since the beginning. The people working there are great and knowledgeable. They love answering questions. I believe they are fair priced on all things for your tank like heaters, filters, fish food etc. I will continue going for things like this but no longer fish. They have a fish policy where if they die within 2 week you can get a new fish for free. However, They make it extremely complex to be able to get this refund and It's just too much time to put in to maybe get a new fish for free. read more

I was given a gift card to the store, so was excited to go in and check it out! I brought two bags of treats, a bag of food and a collagen stick up to the counter. The total was $20 more than I expected based on shelf pricing. I inquired about it and the young woman behind the counter said that the price of the bag of food went up $20 to $59.99. I mentioned that I was quite sure I saw it at 39.99 on the shelf, but she wouldn't check into it at all. Just said that the price went up. I politely purchased my items without the bag of food and went back to the shelf to check the pricing. Maybe I had made a mistake. But sure enough, it said 39.99 as I thought. I went back up to the counter and said that I saw it for $39.99 on the shelf. She again said it was 59.99, to which I replied that I should receive it for $39.99 based on what it said on the shelf. She begrudgingly called a store manager to check on it. And that manager confirmed the shelf pricing at 39.99. I was given the bag for 39.99 as I should have been! And she told me that the next time I come in it would be $59.99. Well, there will be no next time. I understand that pricing continues to increase these days. But it was her attitude about it. And her attitude toward me. My unsolicited opinion is that people who do not have a strength in customer service should maybe try a different position within the company. All I will remember now of Denny's Pet World is her attitude and the unpleasant experience I had with it. And that's unfortunate. It may be a perfectly great place! I don't like to give places bad review, but the reality is that my experience purchasing fish supplies at the front cashiers desk has consistently been an odd experience. I went to the front, to make my purchase, I said "hi" got no response from cashier behind the front desk, no eye contact, no nothing. Cashier scans my item flips the card reader in my direction saying nothing. "Hello!" I say, finally the cashier looks at me and say "hi" and immediately goes back to staring at the register. I enter my card in the chip reader, enter my info, and start to walk away feeling frustrated that I wasn't even acknowledged. As I'm walking away, the cashier finally initiates, conversation, still looking at register "Do you want your receipt?" "No" I say and continue walking away. Still staring at the register the cashier laughs and says "yeh you won't need to return it, your fish will eat the food" and I walk out the door. The reality is I have had many poor customer experiences at the front desk, many simpler to this, but this one was the first time I wasn't acknowledged at all. That's being said I have always been happy with my experience in the fish section, been going to Dennys for years, and I always feel treated well by the fish department. I have nothing against dennys, just the customer service at the front needs to change. All I'm asking for some form basic customer service, just a hello, a simple gesture, just any basic acknowledgment. read more

I've gotten 2 guinea pigs from here a while ago. They both full gown and happy now! Today I came by and so funny that I had been look got mantids to keep as pets. I haven't had any in a long while. They had 2 ghost mantids so I got both of them. They made sure I knew how long they live and a d that I had previous knowledge of them. Helped me pic of an enclosure and all around have a great experience every time I go. First time visit today! I was originally in to buy F/T rats for my ball python (since there are very limited reptile store options in Seattle proper), but I was happy to see the large selection of rawhide alternatives and reputable dog food / treat brands. My first impression of their bird care is not good. The gouldian finches were in extremely under stimulated cages, and the conure fledglings were also in disappointing conditions. I can understand not having perfectly clean cages (birds after all are very messy animals) but in terms of toys and puzzles to keep them stimulated and happy it was not adequate. Their selection of bird toys and supplies is amazing, so this was surprising? I hope they end up adding more to their finch cages. I was not able to take a look at their fish room. As for rats, I purchased 3 of their small F/T rats! They look in good condition, and very well bred. I was told they're from local sources in Everett / Kirkland. Their pricing is a little high, but the quality of the rats makes it understandable. read more

When my daughters fish was sick he gave advice, can do ph testing, and gives practical advice on what to do next. He really cares about fish, has a lot of fish himself and knows what to get, what's good and what's not. We only buy our pet supplies from Denny's because of him. 3/6/13 I was brought into the store by my Mother and Brother who told me i couldn't leave till I picked up a critter to take to my home. I picked up a white with black splotched holland lop and everything else I needed. I later named him Loki as he never really acclimated to a wake/sleep schedule. He was unique from the other rabbits in that he stayed separate. He was a bit anti-social. He refused fruits and veggies including hay, but would steal or accept bits of wheat bread or wheat crackers. He absolutely loved Coke a Cola 12 can boxes because they were close to his size and he would throw and shove them all over the place. Pounce and destroy paper bags. Rip, tear, and redecorate with newspaper. As a holland lop, he shouldn't have the greatest lifespan. 11/10/21 (That's almost 9 years folks!) He had been acting abnormally for a couple days and I suspected it was almost time. Alerted to him thrashing around early in the morning before being completely still while breathing heavily. I picked my buddy up, held and cried with him. He started his breathing countdown after a bit and several minutes later, he was gone. RIP Loki. You were truly a dysfunctional God among rabbits. read more

I have had a tropical aquarium for almost 20 years. I am not an expert and frankly I typically get my fish from the larger chain stores. However, the tank is well broken in and maintained. Some months ago I decided to give Denny's a try as I was hoping to find some different kinds of fish this time. Exceptionally nice people who took the time to help. I typically buy 3 at a time but the sales person (who seemed extremely knowledgeable) told me that I could get 9. While my tank would support that it did seem like that could really stress things adding that many at once, but I went with his expertise. At the time I had 3 fish in the tank with one having been in there for probably 4-5 years. Within 2-weeks my existing 3 fish, including the long time fish, were all dead. 6 of the 9 fish purchased were also dead. I saw signs of Ich of which my tank has never had prior. I stuck with the 3 fish for many months to let things settle. When it was time to add I went to the regular chain store but their fish were not available for purchase at the time. I decided to give Denny's another shot but this time would only get my typical 3. Again very nice experience with the folks there. Added the 3 fish and within 24 hours the first was dead and the second was clearly sick. The second died 2-days later. The third is still alive but questionable so we'll see after another week. So in sum I bought 12 fish in total from Denny's of which 8 have died within days to a few weeks. They also caused the death of 3 existing fish in the tank. I have never had an experience like this prior. Chain stores aren't great but this mortality rate is grossly unacceptable. Given how fast they all died and I can only conclude that the source of these fish to Denny's is extremely suspect. This is not a huge investment but these are living creatures and it's very upsetting to experience this especially when the tank is well established and the fish were acclimated properly. These are all docile community fish that have mixed extremely well prior. I have given Denny's two chances and there is simply no way I would ever return. Update: A day after writing this the third fish died. So that's every one from this purchase less than a week ago. read more

Great place! Been buying from them for over 10 years. I have 4 aquariums full of their fish, shrimp and plants that always last longer than expected. You can trust Jessi the fish guru. Always has great advice. We have a 2+ year old dwarf hamster that's been a wonderful family pet and a newly added fat tailed gecko that's healthy and likes being handled. The staff is friendly and Ive never had a problem returning something that doesn't work out. Prices are fair and everything is top quality. From the street, Denny's Pet World may not look like much, but inside, it's a magical warehouse menagerie of small creatures and neatly organized supplies for pets of all sizes. I was impressed at the variety of: 1. rodents (rabbits and mice and gerbils, oh my!!) 2. fish (an entire room more like an aquarium than a store... see below) 3. corals (lol) 4. shrimps (so many shrimps... it's like this place specializes in shrimps) 5. lizards (I shall name them all "Stevie") 6. snakes (in my opinion, snakes don't get enough love... who doesn't love a snek?!) 7. amphibians (cute frogs and such) 8. and birds (macaws to colorful parrots, and small chirping canaries) From betas to blowfish, the fish section really is one-of-a-kind with a very comprehensive reef selection and also some salt water options. All the animals looked very well taken care of... and you can even pet the bunnies (Visiting here is like visiting a small zoo, really). Most impressive of all, is the knowledge the loves to impart: they can talk fish and tank care all day. We walked out with some cat litter and cat toys, which is probably boring compared to what we could have left with. Even the variety of cat toys here is legit... and, with our extra picky cat, we managed to find some cat toys that were pretty similar to an irreplaceable one he had and loved (and destroyed) as a kitten.
