Had a great experience here. I should have gotten the names of the two excellent young gentlemen helping us because they were awesome. We were shopping around for a new larger cage for our African Grey. Called before heading over to make sure they had something in the size range we were looking for. We were told they did so we headed on over. The store itself was clean and the layout made it easy to look around. I thought the prices seemed reasonable. I think it's important to support a local business and if we lived closer we'd probably shop here regularly. The guy working behind the desk asked if he could help us, we told him we were the ones who called about the cage. He asked another young man who had a super cute Sun Conure to check on the sizes they had in stock. While we waited we checked out stuff in the store. Lots of birds as well as all the toys and perch accessories you could want. We wanted a pretty large cage and they did have a size that would work for us. They were super helpful with the whole process and gave my husband some tips on setting it up. We left with a new cage and a few accessories for it. Got it set up pretty easily when we got home. Us and our Grey are very happy with everything. We definitely recommend this store and will be back when we are in the area again. read more

My business with DPP began about 18 months ago when I tagged along withy boyfriend on his journey to get an African Grey. I was researching species and decided to put my name on several watch/wait lists in two states. BF and I visited DPP a couple of times and I put my name on their list for a Blue-headed Pionus. Much to my surprise they called me 4onths ago saying a breeder had a hatched clutch and did I still want one. Yes!! It took about 3 weeks for my new baby to get shipped to DPP. Rick took pictures and sent them to me and I visited the first time the next day. My hatchling was so ulgy-cute and I was shown how they hand feed the babies. I visited 6 or so times during the hand feeding and natural weaning process. It took around 2 months for my bird to wean and become self-sufficient with food and water. DPP really care about the birds they sell!! They will not sell a bird upon demand the first time someone comes to the store. They require several visits and a deposit prior to purchase. They do not clip wings or force-wean babies. The entire staff was incredible. Allison has a wealth of good information!! I didn't have one negative experience with any staff. My bird has been home just over a week and she's incredible. She got so much socialization opportunities at the store almost nothing fazes her or scared her. She is very gentle with everyone and even my 7 year old son can handle her without being bitten or fearful. We are all in love with her chill nature. Thank you DPP! I would have given five stars, but they are definitely overpriced. We placed our $300 deposit on a cockatiel yesterday, Yep that is only the deposit.. I did a ton of research and they are the only place in the Seattle area that seem to Really ensure that they raise happy and socialized birds. Anyways, after reading some of the reviews on yelp I just wanted to share my extremely positive interactions with the team at Denise's Parrot Place. I sent three different messages through Facebook and got a response within 45 minutes each time. The two staff members that were there yesterday were incredibly helpful. Decent store with a variety of toys and parrot supplies. Perhaps a bit on the expensive side, but since bird supplies aren't the easiest to find, I can overlook that. What I can't overlook is the condescension from the guy working there. He was helpful in some respects, but nearly everything I said he had to disparage in some way. This included belittling my opinions, correcting (or trying to correct) nearly everything I said, even statements that were correct he would try to split hairs to contradict them in some way. This would be extremely annoying and bothersome behavior from someone you meet on the street...but to be talked to like this as a customer? No thanks. read more

I'm giving one star because I was interested in a bird for my daughter. I've read the other reviews and am very disappointed that I left not one but two messages and didn't get a response. I can see that they read my message but couldn't bring themselves to even tell me to bugger off. So if you're looking for a bird and want a response find someplace else. I called ahead and asked if they were able to trim the nails and clip the wings on my two Macaws. The man on the phone stated that they would do it and asked when I would be in. I told him I would be there in one hour. When I showed up, in one hour, I brought my two Macaws with me. I was greeted by a disheveled man who asked me if I was the guy with the Macaws. He stated that they were bigger than he thought they would be and that he had never trimmed birds that big before, and said I'll be back in a minute. He left the store and did not come back. After about 20 minutes, I grabbed my bird carriers and exited the building. Another man approached me outside and asked why I was leaving, I told him that the other guy had disappeared and I was going to go somewhere else. This is my second visit to this store in 3 1/2 months. Both experiences were bad. People who do not like customers should not be in customer service businesses. While, I will not be returning, I hope they get their act together so nobody else has to waste their time like I did today. read more

I went in today to try to buy a bird. The employees seemed to be having an argument with each other which was more important than helping customers. There was lots of storming around and slamming of doors. When I tried to ask for more information about the birds I was met with many sarcastic replies. And "sorry, I was just staring off into space." I was very uncomfortable and disappointed in the service. I am giving two stars because I hung around long enough for the guy to offer to let me meet the bird I was interested in. He took me to a walk in cage and introduced me to the bird, teaching me how to hold it and "make friends" with it. read more

Denise's Parrot Place could not be FURTHER from a conventional pet store, where they do what they have to to skate through, taking care of the animals efficiently (or sometimes, not well enough), so that they can move "the Product" through as quickly as possible. Denise's birds are not products, they are individually hand-raised and well loved creatures. First of all, all of the birds Denise sells hatch in her aviary or those of her two local partners. No mass-produced, anonymous birds here. Next, all of the babies are hand-raised in the breeders' home, taught basic things like being gentle, kisses, how to be carried, and the commands you'd want a bird to know. Many of them also learn to talk a little bit. The store is fantastically clean. The birds are bright-eyed, perfectly feathered, and happy and curious. No droopy feather-pickers here! Denise and her staff make sure that all of the birds get plenty of physical and mental exercise every day, that they are handled every day, and that they eat species-appropriate fresh food. All of this effort shows. I have never seen such a lively bunch of birds! Her store is well-stocked with a wide variety of parrots, small birds, and exotics. She will take reservations for birds that she has not yet hatched. She is very careful about matching people up with the right bird for their family and experience level, and would probably refuse to sell you a bird if she thought your home would be unsuitable or that you would not provide adequate care. Her website has a lot of great information for people considering getting their first bird, or choosing an addition to their existing pet bird family. They also do bird boarding (with strict health requirements and a great level of veterinary care) and grooming; bird day care that can help you address behavioral issues with your bird, and 24-hour phone support for your bird's entire life. The great care put into breeding and hand-raising the birds does result in a slightly higher price than what you'll see at Petsmart or other bird dealers, but you'll know the entire life history of your bird, it will come to you much more trained and tame than many of those commerically-produced unsocialized birds, and you'll have a great ongoing source of support and information in Denise. I think the extra couple hundred dollars are worth it when you're considering a family member who will live for 50 or more years! read more

The gentleman sitting at the desk was very rude. The place needed a good cleaning as the floor was extremely dirty and the place smelled bad. What the woman said on the phone when we called before going in was different than what the man said at the desk. We got a cockatiel from here and paid over $400 for a bird. Which is way too much and waited months for the DNA test. It wasn't a good experience for us there and it wasn't even our first time owning a bird. The girl there made us feel very pressured and guilty to spend over $100 more on the food and to not clip our bird's wings. Listened to her and my bird got 2 injuries from flying and crashing into things because he doesn't know how to stop or land very well and ended up having to clip his wings ourselves just to keep him safe. We feed our bird a variety of foods and spend way less than we need to so I'm pretty sure he's okay. The people working there sounds annoyed all the time and I wouldn't recommend going there because of the service and because they are way too overpriced. read more

I get that accidents happen and a bird can get out of the cage but there should be an emergency plan in place where all the employees run to the doors and lock them until the bird is secured. I want to like Denise's but I feel like I get such a mixed vibe from the store. They're fantastic and easy to talk to over the phone but when I went in person the vibe inside the store made me feel a little uncomfortable. I was greeted but one of the employees couldn't seem to read my body language that I didn't like how he was talking to me. It could've just been me that was awkward but for their prices and quality, you might be better off going somewhere else. However they do have the advantage of having one of the larger varieties of birds and supplies in the Seattle area. read more

We came to the store in January looking for large parrot after the neighbor's dog killed our love bird. We wanted a bigger bird that would be a bit more sturdy. They didn't have anything in the store that was what I was looking for but I just sort of picked one despite their advice. I realized after about a month of waiting for the bird to be old enough to come home they were right and the bird wasn't what I was looking for. They let me switch my deposit to macaw and put me at the top of the list when a Red Fronted Macaw came in from the breeder. Knowledgeable staff and much to my surprise their prices are as good as anyone else. (I always expect independent shops to be really expensive). In addition to the standard parrot pellet and seed mixes they also blend their own cook at home bean and grain mix which makes it easy to include fresh food in the birds diet. We'll never shop anywhere else for our parrot. read more

I learned about Denise's Parrot Place when I took my Cockatiel to the Avian Vet last year. When it was time to schedule my next business trip, I called about boarding services. I have to admit, I was worried when I saw it was on Mercer Island but was pleasantly surprised to find the daily boarding fee was very affordable. When I arrived to drop off my bird, I was let into the boarding area. There was another couple dropping off two cockatiels as well. There were cages lining the walls occupied by larger birds and the middle of the room had stacks of small cages for the smaller birds. It was really loud from all of the birds squawking and chirping. I was totally overstimulated. I had researched The Parrot Place online and the boarding services sounded amazing! I don't know exactly what I expected but this wasn't it. Wasn't it supposed to be some sort of birdie spa-tropical paradise? I did ask for them trim his nails! I must have looked silly with tears in my eyes as I put him in the little cage that was half the size of his normal one at home. The lady who was dropping off her two cockatiels said that she boards there all the time and her birds absolutely love it. My bird got the cage next to her OLD bird. She said her bird was 15 (I think) and maybe he could teach him a new song. Then, something happened that made me feel better. My bird scurried over to where her bird was and started singing. Actually, they were both male and so they were probably deciding who was going to be the most dominant (but I will pretend he was just singing). They were just chirping away. Wow, I felt better. When I came and got him a week later, he was so much happier, better behaved, and did learn a new song. I have taken him back again a few times. When we open the door to the boarding room and he hears the other birds, he gets so excited because he knows where he is. He hops quickly into his little cage and starts singing away. I know he will miss me when I am gone. But I know that he is on a mini vacation and is probably having way more fun with all of the other birds. He also gets lots of exercise by the staff and much healthier food than I could ever try to feed him on a regular basis. I would recommend this place to anyone. It was hard to leave my bird for the first time with someone I did not know. Rest assured that your bird will be well cared for and will come home happy and well adjusted. read more

I've been to Denise's twice. The 1st time was a great experience. It was a woman manning the store and she was very friendly and helpful. I felt comfortable asking her a million questions and she let me just hang out with a few birds and welcomed me back as often as I would like to help make a decision about what bird I want to purchase. Then I went back a 2nd time and met the arrogant, opinionated, negative, angry guy. I don't know his name. Didn't want to stick around to find out. He just had something negative to say about everything and everyone including his coworkers. He manhandled the birds which was a huge turn off for someone seriously considering spending thousands of dollars in the near future. He was more interested in boasting about how important he is and how much more he knows about birds than any other living person on the planet. Insecure much...? It's too bad the owner allows this man to represent an otherwise respectable boutique store. I haven't been back since and I don't plan to return. Instead, I'm researching other options to get the bird and all the necessary crap somewhere else. That way I don't ever have to cross paths with the angry bird man ever again. read more

My sister, my mother, my other sister...all dog people. I shit you not, between the three of them there are currently 9 (NINE!!!) dogs. They also have some aquarium fish, but it's all dogs for them. No cats. No rodents. No reptiles. Me, I like dogs. I really do. Hell, if it wasn't for the fact that they poop and it has to be cleaned up, I'd probably want to own one. But I'm not a dog person. I am a bird person, through and through. I love birds. Finches are fabulous. Mynah's are super rad. When I go to the zoo, I make sure I visit every bird there. Most of all, though, I love parrots. And Denise's Parrot Place is the cream of the crop if you also love parrots. I'll start with supplies - everything you need - pellets, cooking foods, toys, perches, bowls, treats, playstands, boingy ropes - they have it. And the prices aren't astronomical (as any parrot owner knows they can be). On top of that, there's no dust or ickiness on stuff. Apollo's in Everett is a neat store, but kind of grimey. Same thing for the exotic pet store in Spanaway (yes, I know...I visit too many pet stores). Petco and Petsmart are clean, but their food and toys are overpriced with minimal selection, and they don't interact with their birds, which is sad. Denise's is spot on for all things such as these, and has knowledgeable staff for if you have questions with respect to a toy, food or treat and your specific parrot. Then there are the parrots themselves. I don't pretend to be a parrot expert. I have three (a Senegal, a Green Cheek Conure, and a Goffin's Cockatoo), but still am constantly learning. However, I can tell you this - Denise's is the absolute best with respect to the quality of their parrots, the care of their parrots, and the selection. This place had a goddamned Cape Parrot, for chrissakes!!!! (Capes are very rare and hard to breed, but absolutely beautiful medium-large parrots). I only got one of my three fids here, my Senegal Parrot, and he has been absolutely wonderful in his own special way. He came home healthy, with a healthy dose of information. His temperament is pretty damned good for his species and gender (male Sennies can become quite...ornery as they age, and he has his moments). I have continued with his socialization, and he lets complete strangers hold him and tolerates changes to routine pretty damned well. Hell, he even lets my partner pet his wings (which he doesn't let me do). He is absolutely gorgeous with his plumage, having bright green, yellow and gray feathers. On top of that, he gets along well with my other two parrots (the GCC, 5 months old as of this review, and the Goffin, 12 years), mostly by ignoring their presence. And he doesn't get into screaming matches with the GCC, no matter how hard she tries when I go to work in the AM! The other parrots that I've seen here have been nothing short of amazing, and the quality is fantastic. These are lively, happy and playful well socialized parrots. If you are ready to adopt your very own 3 year old for life, then make sure to stop by Denise's to find the perfect match for you! read more

I drive across the bridge twice a month to come here. They've got a great assortment of toys, perches, food, cages - everything you parrot needs to stay happy and healthy. The staff is glad to help you out and is friendly. It is always fun to see the birds out of their cages. If it's a bird you want to put in that cage, they have a fine selection of well treated, hand raised, high quality parrots. I wouldn't consider getting a bird anywhere else. You can meet the individual birds, talk to the knowledgeable staff, and buy a book about the breed. Most of all, take care about taking this friend home. If your even thinking about buying a bird this is the place to come. They breed, train and have all the supplies you will need for your first for eight bird. She will even let you hold and pet the birds if you wash your hands in the back first. As Julia Z. stated, Denise loves birds and that shows in how she treats the birds she sells and the costumers she sells them to. The store is the cleanest pet store I have ever been in, that's even more amazing as its filled with huge birds of all types. And if you have ever owned a bird you know they are not the tidiest of creatures. Prices are higher then the chain stores but your paying for the expertise of the staff and the knowledge that they are not going to sell you anything that you don't need just to make a fast buck. Its stuck in the corner of a little strip mall so it can be a little hard to find, but parking is easy and once you know were it is, its easy to get to. Even if your not interested in getting a parrot its cool to see all the colorful birds especially for children. It would make for fun and cheap Saturday outing. read more

I have never seen a bird store that is so clean and the birds are in such good condition. They have a large variety of products with a very knowledgeable staff. They keep the boarded birds away from thier birds so that they won't catch anything. They make sure anyone who handles thier birds washes their hands. They won't sell any bird on impulse and won't sell the bird unless they think it is a good match for that person and that person has adequate knowledge about parrots. They don't just try and move merchandise, they establish a relationship. We visited our bird three times before we bought her. She is in perfect health and color. Couldn't be happier about her. You may find cheaper birds but you won't find better. read more

I've gotten two birds from here. A Green Cheek Conure and a Black Cap Conure. The care they give the birds is quite remarkable. They definetely give them the very best care, food, attention, etc. Went to a few other "breeders" but was not impressed with the care, they were just about the money. Burd mill, cheap food, dirty cages, etc. Then I went to DPP and was thoroughly impressed. All the staff are super knowledgeable, all bird people and very helpful and attentive. This is the only place I would ever buy a bird. I would pay twice as much for a bird here because I know how much they put into these guys before you get them so you get an awesome fid to take home. I saw the owners son Rick who is also the manager massaging a green cheeks pin feathers so it wasn't such an uncomfortable molt. They have several amazingly cool green cheeks btw, that shows a true caring for every bird in the store. It's just a real gem of a place, they always have what I need in stock and their Hycinthaw Macaw Zoey is just a sight for anyone to see, beautiful and mellow, perfect mascot. read more

The birds here are obviously well-loved, well-socialized, healthy and responsibly bred. This is something of a rarity in the companion parrot world and something that should be valued tremendously. As another reviewer pointed out, you'll be paying a bit more for nearly everything you see in the store. *However*! it is truly one-stop-shopping for anything your parrot might need. The selection of toys, foods, books, treats, first aid materials, perches and other cage accessories etc...is amazing. While some of the staff can be a bit brusque, they are all very knowledgable and experienced. The only real downside (and it wasn't worth docking a star over) is the fact that you have to go to Mercer Island to visit their store (although they do have an online presence as well). Ick. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. I will admit that I was very hesitant at first. The prices are a bit higher than breeders and the staff was very willing to send me to other places to look for a bird. However, I stuck around for another hour to discuss options and what I was looking for/wanted in a pet. It became very clear that they have the animals' best interest in mind and are looking to help you find the perfect fit in bird (essentially the best product for you, the customer) even if it means sacrificing a sale. That sold me. I put a deposit on a bird that afternoon. So I said they're a bit pricier than a breeder. Turns out you get what you pay for (and in this case, FAR more). They hand fed our little guy for a few months. During that time we were encouraged to visit as often as we wanted. Each visit, the staff helped us get acclimated with our new bird, answered a huge amount of questions with infinite patience, showed us training techniques, and were just amazing in general. Also, during that time, they were getting our guy socialized with other people and birds as well as doing some training to boot. By the time he was fully weaned, he was fully comfortable with us and would fly to us for some treats. When we got him home, he was squawking to come out and play within a few hours. Definitely not something I've ever experienced with a breeder. It's obvious that every employee cares deeply about what they do and the birds they raise. It's a rare sight to see a pet store really care about the animals they sell. Denise's parrot place is easily the best 'bird shop' in the state, in my opinion. Having been the the only other 3 or 4 anywhere near Seattle, Denise's is very clearly the best. They have a very knowledgable and friendly staff, they have no problem letting you visit with and hold the birds, and their prices are extremely reasonable. They have a HUGE selection of toys, perches, food and treats, and I can tell you from experience that is is all priced the same or less as you will find it online, so you might as well help a small local business and shop there. They are also the only retailer in the state to sell the Birdy Backpack things to carry your bird around in! (I bought one and it is the best thing I have ever bought my bird goes everywhere with me now lol). Highly highly recommend going in and meeting with them, checking out some new toys and etc and potentially meeting your new family member! Ps. The remodel looks awesome and makes the whole experience even better than it was before! read more

I got my pineapple green cheek conure from Denise's. It' not my first bird, but it's my first parrot. I went to Denise's because everyone says that her birds are healthy and well-behaved. The staff let me hold my bird when I went into the shop & that sealed the deal. The staff taught me everything I needed to know about my bird during the adoption process. Thanks to Denise's we've added a healthy, happy, well-behaved bird to our family...and will probably add another at some point. read more

This is my go-to "bird store" for years. Prices on toys are about average, but everything is good quality. They sell Celltei carriers for cheaper than online, which are the best in the world and hard to find! The other most recent reviewer's statement is totally wrong - the birds here have a way better environment than chain stores. It's true the cages aren't all huge (though many are), but that's more than offset by the fact unlike chain stores they have the birds out of the cage every day - every single bird, every single day - to play and socialize. Any "bird person" can tell you a slightly smaller cage (none are too small) is completely fine if the birds are out of the cage during the day anyway! They also vaccinate birds, and I've always been happy to see they feed them a proper diet - fruit, vegetables, beans, and good-quality pellets - not like chain stores who just use standard colored sugary pellets or (even worse) seed, which are terrible for birds! I've spent lots of time here and know the birds are also all raised by the breeder (and employees who actually have real vet technician backgrounds) and are extremely hand tame - every one of the dozens of times I've been there they have at least some of the birds out to hold and play with as long as you wash your hands first. I've spent hours in here and played with lots of birds - most love head scratches. If someone was told not to stick their hand in a cage - it's because it's rude to poke at a bird in their home, and they have HUGE birds like Hyacinth Macaws which are very sweet when out but can seriously injure you if you poke at them in the cage - they can crack a coconut shell in half just for fun. I'm sure they were just told this for safety. If you go to any real avian-certified vet in the area they will tell you that Denise's is great - and that's the best mark of quality. read more

Knowledgeable staff, great selection and good prices makes this place a great location to get your bird some treats, or find your next pet. We recently had our parrot fly away. We contacted them and asked to be notified if somebody turned in our Senegal parrot. Within a few hours, we got a phone call back and somebody had brought our parrot into the store. They cared for our parrot, gave us recommendations on where to get him treated for a small puncture wound to his head (while he was missing, some critter tried to get him) and were very helpful in assisting us in getting our Senegal back to health. I got a beautiful albino cockatiel from them. I was told he eats pellet but he only wants to eat seeds. My other birds were easy to convert but he just refuses to eat. He also doesn't eat most fresh veggies.What is worse, he has infection in air sac and cost me a lot for the vet. I posted review about it on Facebook and they blamed on the diet I am working on.Extremely shady.Should've thought there was a reason beautiful albino wasn't sold for few months.I recommend wing of the world not here as one from them talks a lot and very healthy.Stuff are friendly as well. read more

Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. We love our Black Headed Caique we purchased the summer of 2016 at Denise's. She was very well socialized and healthy. If I ever get another parrot, I will definitely go to Denise's first. Prices are a little high for food, toys, etc. read more

I agree with all of the comments about healthy looking birds and a clean store. However I found the staff to be almost universally unpleasant. They don't encourage interaction between customers in the store and the birds and it shows. Many of the birds I visited with over the course of about six months were not nearly as well socialized as birds at other bird stores. I felt the staff (owner's grandchildren?) were annoyed at being asked to get a bird out its cage. I was looking to add a parrot to my small flock at the time and chose to go elsewhere thanks to vibe I got from this place. Go to Apollo's in Everett. The birds aren't locked up in cages and you can visit with them. Much nicer environment. read more

Got my beloved baby caique from here this May and loved the whole experience. Visited him in the store almost daily before bringing him home. The staff has been very friendly and knowledgable. Peter and Hugh have been giving great tips to handle caiques and how to train them. Denise's also board. Have boarded my bird twice and I've been relived knowing he's in the safest hands. read more
