I scheduled grooming for my 15-year-old Shih Tzu at Petco Redmond after reading reviews and specifically choosing Lacey, a groomer whose name came up repeatedly. My dog has been groomed weekly her entire life, and for the past two years I've done it myself because grooming is very expensive. Since I was going to be out of the country and my dog would be staying with a sitter, I wanted her to be clean and comfortable, so I carefully scheduled this appointment through the Petco app and provided all the required information. Minutes after checking in, Lacey called me to ask the exact same questions I had already spent 20 minutes filling out in the app. I let her know I was annoyed at the redundancy, and she reacted as if I was the problem. I even told my spouse at the time: "We're going to have trouble with this person." Unfortunately, I was right. On the day of the appointment, the sitter called to tell me Petco sent my dog home because, according to Lacey, she "wasn't able to stand" for grooming. Instead of calling me--something I had specifically requested if there were any issues--Lacey clipped her nails only and charged $26 without my permission. Not only did I waste hours scheduling this, but my sitter wasted time and gas driving, and I ended up having to pay $110 at another groomer to get the job done properly. To make matters worse, the sitter mentioned the Petco grooming area was loud, chaotic, and unpleasant for the pets. Overall, this was a terrible experience that showed complete disregard for both clients and their animals. Never take your pet here. read more

DISGUSTING GROOMERS ATTITUDES! Not gonna go into detail, I have been beyond pissed all day, this store needs to recheck who they hire, it's disgusting to come into grooming with your pet and come across these groomers "annoyed" faces with an attitude. My dog is not an aggressive dog at all!!!! She is super friendly, I would say extremely friendly, but due to the aggression of this groomer they called and told me the dog tried to bite and they stopped service, OFCOURSE she tried to bite when she's being aggressively pulled by the neck while already being scared. I feel so disgusted from my interactions with this girl, the look she gave me since the second I walked in already told me this is not gonna go good. Other than her handling my dog so aggressively, I walk in and say hi to everyone, and in return they're all staring at my face with a weird look and not greeting back, only after her long pause this girl decided to say something. Went into restrooms while shopping. I was disgusted. Tall garbage can overflowing looked like it hadn't been emptied in a week. Dust, dirt, and pet hair everywhere, dried up pee puddles with dirt ground in--obviously no sweeping or mopping there for ages. Sink was horrible, badly needing a deep scrub. Walls splattered with dirt, pet marks. The whole place needed a scrub down and sanitizing. Couldn't shop after that. read more

Got my dog grooming canceled cuz they were short staffed, then got a text saying I actually could bring my dog in. Drove 20 min and was denied service because my dog is taking a probiotic snacks and they were worried he was gonna infect any other dogs if he were to have any illnesses, spoiler: he doesn't. I was just so excited that I finally made a Gloomimg appointment with my Pomeranian Luey (8mo old) at Petco. I was tired of his poop hanging around from his butt hair and I was excited him to be groomed. Unfortunately, He came home with black listed and groomer told my boyfriend that he is not welcome at Petco anymore. I was in shock and super disappointed. Luey had been to professional grooming salon for twice. First time with "best friend" salon in bellevue. He got scared with the sound of hair clippers so best friend couldn't provide a full hair cut. Ever since then, we practiced giving him a bath/ Blew dryer at our apartment's dog station to make sure he is comfortable with it. I was hurt and sad when Petco told my boyfriend " he was try to bite, and they were thinking to muzzle him" during his appointment. He is super hyper 8month old puppy and he still has a habit of nipping my fingers but NEVER ATTEMPT TO BITE. Don't take your dog here for grooming. Why you ask? 1) I was chided for being 10 minutes early to my appointment. Really? 2) It's dirty and also loud which makes my dog nervous and then they complained about my dog being nervous. My dog strains at the leash and gags when she's uncomfortable so then they accused her of having a cough. And then even suggested she may have a heart problem? She doesn't and she's in great shape. I got a free nail trim voucher so I went to this location. Well, the lady at the grooming counter was visibly annoyed that I came in without an appointment and gave me an attitude about it. They turned me away which was really frustrating because this service is literally listed as a "walk-in" service. I even called beforehand and asked if the nail trim voucher needed an appointment and they said no, walk-in is fine. What a waste of time. Not sure what weather they were referring to as the last time it snowed was 3 days prior and the roads were completely clear, not even ice. Had a horrible experience at the groomers here. First, every time I come in I am greeted with attitude and asked how my dog does with grooming.. I am not the one grooming him, I leave every time, so I have no idea. Then, my dog was denied service because his ear looked red. She asked me if he has ear infections and I said he is actually on drops to help prevent against them and she told me she could not take any dog on medication. That is a crazy policy, and completely wasted my time. I am actually glad he was turned away because I do not want to be supporting this big chain corporation that takes 0 pride in their work or who they hire to groom pets. Petco used to be my pet store of reference when they had a place in Crossroads Bellevue, but that closed. Also, I recently changed cat litter system, I use horse bedding (highly recommended btw), and I don't need the normal cat litter anymore. Despite my better judgment my eye caught a little black moor fish, I thought I could quarantine it in one of my plant storage tanks to make sure it was OK before putting it in the big tank so I felt better about not bringing a disease home from Petco. The girl started grilling me with a prior determination on her part that I was not worthy. I told her I had a 55 with a panda goldfish and some danios. That was not acceptable to her. She got really rude, claimed the goldfish would eat the danios, which they are too big yo be eaten. Knowing that the rule of thumb was for goldfish is 10 gallons per fish I questioned her decision. She turned very hostile, said she wasn't able to help me and leave. I went to the front and asked for a manager and she came up. Wouldn't tell me her name, wasn't wearing a name tag, the girl at the register wouldn't share her name either. She screamed at me to get out of her store and go elsewhere. While I understand making sure their animals go to good homes but she made a judgment about me before I opened my mouth. The staff is so nice. I think they do a really good job of picking their managers. They are very helpful and so kind. I can't remember his name right now but he has been substituting at the Kirkland 85th location. The reason for my three stars is because of the grooming salon. They literally never answer the phone, and the service that I need, isnt available to book on its own online. So we always have to drive there and hope that we come in at a time where they have the availability to do it, but a lot of times we have to make an appointment in person and come back for it. I would appreciate if they either added stand-alone services such as nail trim, teeth brushing, and ear plucking to their online choices, or the grooming answers the phone to make appointments so that It can save us an unnecessary trip. read more

Employees are very rude. I came to buy a goldfish for the class pet and was quizzed on my knowledge of best practices for keeping a goldfish. Keep in mind i have a 20 gallon tank for one goldfish as most people recommend 10 gallons per goldfish. The employee incorrectly informed me that I need a 30 gallon tank for one goldfish. I thought it was ironic that they what looks to be 100 goldfish in looks like to be a 30 gallon tank. She than later berated me ob my old goldfish dying (rip red) because of my improper care. I love this petco! Each time we come we end up getting more than we should, but they always have great sales and friendly staff. Daisy loves all the toys that we get here, and the staff always has a water bowl by the water fountain in the back of the store. We also had obedience classes here for her, and while they were helpful, it did often feel like we were always one week ahead of the class. That may be due to us having a poodle, or just not the best teacher. I know he's not working at this petco any longer. This 1-star review is only based on my experience yesterday in the aquatics department. (*Casey in Grooming is amazing and I will only take my dog to her!) Yesterday I stopped in to pick up cat food and decided to get a few more male guppies for my 10-gallon tank. I was helped pretty quickly by a younger brunette girl, who after I told her what I wanted, she rudely replied, "why do you want guppies?". A little taken back, I said because I think they're pretty and that's what I want. She told me that guppies are fish food. Really? Who cares what type of fish I want for my tank and how dare you basically make fun of me for my choice. I go on to say that it's for an easy tank, as I already have two cats and a dog, which is a lot to take care of. She chimes in that she has "3 dogs, 1 cat, 2 ferrets, a saltwater tank, a bunny" and about 3-4 other animals/reptiles and she takes care of all of them in her apartment. So in her "professional opinion", I'm stupid for purchasing guppies. Well in my professional opinion as a Property Manager, I think you're an irresponsible pet owner keeping that many animals in an apartment and I can guarantee you your landlord doesn't know, nor would they allow you to have so many. My dog is a golden/chow mix with a beautiful red thick coat and mane. I came in today looking at fish for my 5 gallon tank. I talked with a Petco employee about types of fish and what I could put in my tank. I was told that I could put a Golden Dojo Loach and 4 neon tetras in my 5 gallon tank. When I got home I did some research about Golden Dojo Loaches and found that they need a 30 gallon tank minimum. I called customer service and they told me that I should return the fish. I came in the store and returned the fish, and nobody apologized for the poor service earlier. This is the exact reason why I don't want to visit this shop compare to other Petco. Waiting for some food to go so I went with my kid to pick up a fish for my 10 gal tank. We spot an algae eater so we selected that fish. On and off there is a kid who kept asking whether he can help to net the fish and interfere my conversation with the staff so I don't know who that kid is. (boss son?) The staff was ok with the algae eater with my 10 gal tank and then she started saying you should get another kind of algae eater since the one I took can grow big as time goes by. The hang around kid then went and helped out to look for the smaller version of algae eater and the staff started scoping the "advised" fish for us without us agreeing it. I took a look at the price and it was $8.99/$9.99 and compared to our $2.99. After I realized that I got sold on an more expensive fish, I told the staff please stop picking up that $8.99/$9.99 one and just went with the original one. The staff bagged the fish and then as she handed the fish to us, she suddenly told us I cannot sell this fish to you. I asked why. She said "your current fish tank is only 10 gal". I then said if I think the fish out grow the tank by that time, I will put it in my 75 gal or whatver or I can buy a new tank. At the end the staff refused to see that 1.5 inch fish to me. (which is funny b/c their display tank also like 10+ gal and was totally crowded with fish with dead fish at bottom. The 0.20 cents comet one was even more depressed as there are dead/struggling one all over the place - low profit margin feeder fish, no one care) I went up and talked to the manager Michael and he told me he advised his staff and customer that Petco only sell fish for the proper setup for the "whole life time" of the fish. Since this 1.5 inch may outgrow my 10 gal tank in the future, they cannot sell the fish to us. We have some interesting discussion on from whether he is doing a "bait and switch" to raise the profit margin, to what makes him think I cannot afford to have a bigger fish tank later on/put the fish in my 75 gal fish tank at home as it grows bigger. At the end, some kind of comments was like "the staff is kind of new so I cannot tell what/how the conversation goes". I then just mentioned to Michael that I never have this kind of problem in Sammamish Petco. I believe there is something this shop needs to work on. While I fully appreciated his concern of fish being, a few things in my mind: 1) As a manager, if the staff is new and not ready, should you be there an help out / stand by and help out? I would like to be a manager as well if all I need to do is say "she is new" and all customer problem will go away. This is easy money for a job. 2) The guarantee of the fish is like a wk? I don't even remember b/c I never use that guarantee thing. So when I bought a fish 1.5 inch fish, now Petco is making sure I have a 75 gal tank at home, empty and ready before I can buy that fish. Does that even make sense? Since Petco is now forcing me to make sure my fish live "all the way". If say my fish died after a yr, can I bring it back for a refund? If not, why Petco is forcing me to have a 75 gal tank in order to have a 1.5 inch fish? Shouldn't Petco also housed that 1.5 inch fish into a 75 gal tank in their shop? 3) Michael was saying I was accusing him on "bait and switch" since I had not paid my fish yet. If I went to a car dealer and told the dealer I want this car with the sticker price of $10000. Then as I ready to paid and the car dealer told me, well that car just sold to somebody/have some more work to work on - but u can buy this other one at $15000 instead. While I do believe may be there is no "bait and switch" in my case, but this situation does look like one. Please don't buy fish from this Petco. Visit other location or PetSmart. You don't want to have all these agony to purchase a 1.5 inch fish. read more

If I could give this location negative stars I would. Let me begin by saying I don't DO reviews. I don't care enough to waste my time. I MADE a yelp account just to let people know how awful this location is. This review is specifically for their grooming department. My dog has been groomed by Petco since we have had her (3 years). We originally took her to the Kirkland location and had always had wonderful experiences. Our groomer unfortunately injured herself and become unable to groom larger dogs. We decided to continue grooming with Petco, just switch locations. Upon our first couple of visits, the customer service was always awful. Instead of giving helpful tips or educational advice, they shamed us and made us feel awful for not brushing properly. Fast forward to today. I scheduled a grooming appointment 2 months ago for our girl. I showed up today at 8 am for the appointment and they did not acknowledge my existence upon arrival. They then immediately grabbed a fine tooth comb and started trying to brush through my poodles hair. We have been brushing & de-matting for weeks in anticipation of this visit. They refused to groom her and said it was a new policy. My anger stems more from the lack of decency. If you have new policies in place, wouldn't it be expected to call your customers prior to let them know? I rearranged my work schedule, as well as booking months prior. They were extremely rude and unprofessional. I have never ONCE had an issue with any other groomer. Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Do not waste your time with this place. They are USELESS. I truly hope both girls working here lose their jobs. They are in the wrong industry. read more

We are new to the area and we needed a groomer. My furbaby is a 12 yr old boxer/sharpei mix. He is loving and sweet but very anxious around other dogs and new people. The girls at the Redmon location took great care of him! they keped him away from other dogs and made us feel comfortable from day 1. Brownie has been getting groomed at least every 2 weeks for the last month or so. They remember him by name and already know he needs deshedding treatment. Very disappointed. Grooming awful will go to VCA on UNION HILL. Petco charged me for a cut when they only washed and blow dried my dogs. You can see that only the anal, vaginal and nails were cleaned. When we discussed and paid for a full haircut. From the moment I got there I was greeted with a negative attitude and before leaving the store, the groomer gave my harvest to the manager to fix, he broke it and I had to buy a new one. To do all those things we don't want to do, like get his teeth brushed, or trim his nails, etc. We can brush him and give him a bath at home(and we do). We used to always take him to the University District Petco. Even though my dog hated it. He hates the Vet too though. He is a rescue dog, who has obviously had some bad experiences with Vets, so any place with Kennels, strangers, and the like he is going to be scared of. We never had any problems at the U-District Location though. He was always done earlier than we were told, and he was clean, and his nails were trimmed. We took him to the Redmond location because it's close to our new apt. I had heard horrible things about this locations Grooming Dept, but I was so desperate to get his nails trimmed that I forgot. We were told it would take 2 hours, when in fact it took 3. When I finally picked him up, they told us they couldn't cut his nails. WHAT??!??!?! That is the only reason I took him there! They said he was too scared, and peed everywhere, and tried to bite them, and apparently it was a common occurrence because it was in the notes. First off, in the multiple times I took him to the U-District location, they never once told me about this, so I wasn't aware that it was a problem, and secondly, his nails were ALWAYS trimmed. You are a groomer. You should be used to dogs trying to bite you, or peeing on you. You are a stranger, who leaves a dog locked in a kennel in a foreign place for 3 hours and then you try and clip their nails. What do you think is going to happen? When I complained about this, the girl in the Groomers Dept got the manager. Why, I still don't know. I had said everything that needed to be said, I never raised my voice, I wasn't rude, and I never asked for a manager. I simply stated that they had wasted my time, and didn't do the one thing I paid them to do. I told the manager the same exact thing as well. She was obviously annoyed with having to talk to me as well, and knew that there was a problem with the grooming Dept. I apologized multiple times for my dogs behavior as well. But it's not my dog's fault. He isn't an aggressive dog, he was scared. I will continue to buy food at Petco, because they are close to my apt, and they have good prices on the Natural Balance food we buy, and everyone else who works here is very nice, and helpful. But we will not be using their Grooming Dept. ever again. Because they are useless. read more
