Arrived after the lunch rush around 1:30 pm. Ordered drinks and my iced tea was so bitter that I had to replace it with lemonade. After ordering our meals we waited...and waited...and waited for our food to show. There was barely anyone in the place. 4 servers present and they weren't particularly interested in making sure we were taken care of. Saw an order placed under the heat lamps and wondered, "Could that be our food?" We waited another 20 minutes and I became agitated. Another waitress finally saw the pissed off look on my face and asked "have you not received your food?" Our waitress overheard, ran over and grabbed the tray of food and said "oh, it just came up", not knowing we'd been watching it for sit there for at least 20 minutes. I told her to "Forget it. We're out here." I threw a $5 bill on the table for our drinks and got up and left. Won't be back to this Denny's ever. Was there at least 45 minutes. I've eaten at lots of Denny's elsewhere and usually I'm there from start to finish about that amount of time. Don't believe the ads either. Other than the Slam specials their food is priced as high as everyone else's. read more

A blast from the past. For a few years, this Danny's was on our (very) regular rotation, so it definitely brings up a bit of nostalgia. The experiences here have been mostly great, but there have been times where I was bewildered at the undercooked pancakes (and it was always the multigrain pancakes). Staff here have mostly been friendly but then again, there have been times when certain staff dropped the ball such as slow service and not checking on our table once. I've always liked the retro music played here, and the casual bright 'yellow-red' vibe is what I've come to expect. Long live Denny's. read more

Where to start? Started with a 37 minute wait for our food. There were a max of 5 other tables in the whole place. All to go food had priority over dining in. Gravy is literally the most plain white gravy with sliced up sausage links. Neither had any flavor whatsoever. Glassware was dirty, silverware was still wet when it was rolled and the whole set and napkin was wet when we finally got it. Needed it about 10 minutes earlier to stir my husband's coffee, but there is no hustle in this place whatsoever. Looked like the whole crew needed an IV of B-12. Got to hear about how one waitress got new star tattoos all over her face and got the f bomb from the kitchen back to a different waitress when BOH couldn't read and order and shorted the order 3 eggs over easy. Crowning touch? Walking back to the truck for something I forgot and realizing 2 spots over was an employees vehicle with fresh puke right outside the door. Either they puked and rallied and went to work recently, or they stepped in someone else's and traipsed it right into the restaurant. Almost didn't eat breakfast when it finally arrived after that. Honestly, if you're looking on Yelp you probably know not to go to Denny's, I hadn't been in 25+ years and it won't happen again. This was the first time that I visit this Denny's on 3429 Orange Ave in Roanoke, Virginia, and what a surprise did I get. First of all, the interior design of the restaurant is very modern and clean, yet at the same time very warm with the use of hardwood floors, wood and black tables and chairs, and red booths seats. All the windows and the interior lighting treatment also provide for a relaxed environment and feeling of comfort and joy. But what was even more amazing were the servers of the place. They all have a positive attitude and personality and you can see they enjoy providing exceptional customer service to their customers. My host / server greeted me with a warm smile as soon as I arrived and gave me a warm welcome like very few that I have evered experienced before. Suddenly this chain restaurant didn't feel like one but rather like a local restaurant that when you visit it your are made to feel like home with the warm hospitality provided. My waitress was so open and natural that made me feel so comfortable in a place that I visited for the very first time. She was so friendly and knowledgeable at the same time. I had just joined their app and she not only explained the discounts I would get today but went through the process at the end to help me get them. When I first arrived she took me to a booth, which by the way was very comfortable and nice looking in it's design. She provided me with a copy of the menu, and asked what I wanted to drink, if coffee or orange juice? Since I was eating and early dinner I asked for an orange juice. Then I had time to review the extensive menu with color photographs of some of the menu items done very professionally yet at the same time very colorful and fun. Since I love chorizo, I ordered the Santa Fe Skillet, which sounded very attractive and looked even better in the menu photograph. It arrived in a sizzling hot skillet and looked and tasted amazingly delicious. My server not only brought it to me but celebrated the dish very highly. She was able to put excitement in my dining experience. For dessert dessert my server recommended a slice of Pecan Pie that wasn't even in the menu and when I asked if it came with Ice Cream she answered: "I can arrange that." Then at the end, when I asked for the bill my server tooked me to the cashier station and showed me how to find the coupon on the app in my cellphone to scan for a discount for becoming a member of Denny's. One thing I can tell you, the Denny's of the present and the future is nothing like the Denny's of the past. It has grown with the times for the better. I highly recommend this Denny's in particular for a place to have an enjoyable dining experience alone, or even better with family and friends and I give my compliments to the manager of the restaurant and corporate for doing such a great job in assembling all that is needed to provide an extraordinary dining experience. I came in for my birthday grand slam 3/28 and was told what I ordered wasn't eligible for my online discount. I ordered the original slam and it's clearly eligible. But not only that, I was also only provided one piece of bacon and one piece of sausage (meal as supposed to come with two of each). Needless to say I'm not going back to that particular Denny's because I'm not sure if what I experienced was a mere oversight or purposely done, but I would like a refund for my meal. I've gone to that particular restaurant years prior for my birthday grand slam and have ordered the SAME thing, so I am perplexed as to why this experience was different. Here's the update: I emailed the GM that evening and the response was less than great the next day - no apology for the mistakes, just continued implication that what I ordered wasn't eligible for the free birthday slam. I then followed up with another email, explaining the eligibility rules for the promotion and a copy of my receipt to show I did in fact order something eligible for the free slam. This was on Sunday and I've yet to hear anything back At this point, it's not even the fact I had to pay that's a point of contention, it's the principle, food prices have gone up, while quality and services at these places have gone way down and enough is enough....a mistake was clearly made and I can't even get an apology? I don't live in Roanoke, I just pass throug a few times a month, but I'll make it a point to never patronize this restaurant again. And I hope others follow suit. read more

It was Thanksgiving night at a hotel and I wanted a late night snack. Thank god Denny's is open 24/7, even on a holiday. I called Denny's to confirm they were open and a lovely lady named Tina answered the phone. She told me they were open for the holiday. I ordered a late night snack of chicken fingers and a garden salad through Uber Eats. It was delayed arriving to the hotel due to the holiday, but it did finally arrive and it was delicious. The chicken fingers were cooked perfectly and the garden salad was wonderful. Denny's is a part of my childhood just like everyone else. My parents took me there for dinner and breakfast as a child, and it is always a favorite among college students after a long night of drinking and partying. The ambiance is casual and makes you feel like you are at home. The service is always on point and the food is always exceptional. Denny's will never go out of style and is always a family favorite, so I'm so glad this has been around for so many years, and will continue to be around as long as they are families and late night college students looking for a bite after partying. My husband & I stopped by Denny's to get a meal. I ordered the beer battered fish & chips. How do you cook fish & chips crispy on the outside but still have cold fish inside? The fries delivered with the fish were very salty. Fries should not be salted by the cook but should be salted by the customer. Then you send the cold fish back & was told the cook would redo the fish & the fish is still cold on the 2nd try. Melody, the server, apologized profusely & I was told there were 3 new cooks & someone who oversees them. The server asked if there was something else I wanted. I decided to go with something plain & simple, 2 medium eggs, hash browns & 4 sausage links. This was good but the eggs were salted. Whichever new cook cooked my food likes salt. I'm not sure which new cook cooked my food but he needs more training to make sure food cooked on the outside is cooked on the inside. When it was time to pay the check, Melody, said she would be sure to take all my meal(s) off the check. So our lunch total was only $19.93. Great value, efficient and friendly staff, & solid breakfast food. Went on a Sunday at the worst time and didn't have to wait long. Love how they have goldfish for the kids, that saved a meltdown. Their app has a lot of rewards and coupons, but make sure you have your server scan the code since you can't do it after with the receipt. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting tho. let's start with its thanksgiving night and they wee the only place open really. my hubby ordered a ham and cheese omelette and asked for shaved ham. Another server came over refusing to do the shaved ham with the excuse of proportions not being the same and they were low on it. When his ham and cheese inlet came out it most definitely was not a ham and cheese it has red pepper, onions and steak. not sure how you can screw up a basic ham and cheese but they cook did or whoever out the order in did. when they sent out the proper omelette, instead of fresh hashbrowns that were hot they put the old hash browns cold on the plate. Second asked for cheese sticks had to request marinara sauce and was given ice cold sauce from a fridge when I asked for it to be heated the Mac and cheese that is oven baked was cold and gross. my brother in laws food was undercooked on everything but the eggs. couldn't get a turkey dinner as they were out of stuffing. Rarher than offer a subscription for the stuffing they simply were not selling the dinner. only thing that was good was the one hot chocolate. the one chocolate milk and the one sprite we got. You'll notice friendly personnel upon entering. Most of them will know you from coming through there many times. The seating is open and handicap friendly. You can see the prep area from the seats and you'll find it clean and fresh. The menu has increased like most places since the virus but you get more than enough food for what you pay. Worst customer service ever. Even the manager could care less that several people were unhappy. Her response was "everyone is waiting a long time for their food. We are doing the best we can. I have not eaten at a Dennys in 30 years and then it was only breakfast. We got burgers and fries to go and was underwhelmed. Burgers were dry and overcooked. "Seasoned" fries were bland. Another weird thing is they promote themselves as The Burger Den on DoorDash rather than admit they are Dennys. Last travesty, they were out of ice cream for shakes. Placed an online order, received email confirmation of order but when we arrived we were told there was no ticket and card was billed. I asked to speak to a manger and was told none was available to speak with me. I'm disputing the charge as fraud with my bank and will never do business with this place again! WOW! This visit did not disappoint. This Denny's has been open for over 10 years. We have visited this place a handful of times and EVERY time you see the same things and same excuses. We got seated right away and our order was taken within 15 minutes. 45 minutes no sign of the food. Finally our server said they were out of rice and asked if I wanted anything. No silverware. She said they ran out. I know why... Several tables remained in unbused for over 30 minutes. That is extremely unpleasant to look at makes me wonder what it going in behind the scenes. While we have eaten here many of times and this past Thursday, we decided after going car shopping that we would stop in at Denny's, Omg I have never in my life experienced a visit such as this one. As we were walking in and one of the female employees greeted us at the front door and decided to spit a man size Lou-gee "Snot spit" in front of us that was attractive!!! I ordered a skillet and it had more peppers in it and yet it had no flavor what so ever, as Gordon Ramsey would say it looked like someone threw up on my plate. Now my girlfriend ordered a Grand slam slugger breakfast with sausage and bacon and we both got water to drink. Her grand slam slugger came out first with just scrambled eggs and 1 pc of sausage and one pc of bacon and the waitress decided that the plate was right until we had to remind her that it's two pieces each. Oh then she came back with the rest of the meat and said the rest of it will be done in a bit. Not the whole meal. Then it took a while to get the rest of the food. Then while eating a manager out loud gave his staff orders very rudely in from of customers. In the middle of our meal our waitress got knocked off the clock and we were given a new waitress who we never saw again. We had to go up to the front. The manager approached us and said how can I help you? I said we want to pay and leave. He said do you have your check? I said if I had a waitress I wouldn't be up here asking for my check. Oh we never got our water refilled either. The manager asked how was everything I said if we had a waitress it would have been nice. He gave me the bill and said I am sorry!!! How nice. Absolutely love this place. My family and I will travel 45 minutes just to eat here! The food is always cooked to perfection, you always get a good portion of food each time and the staff has always treated us well. I have a hard time choosing between breakfast or lunch! we were blown away by the quality of our food, the fast service and unbeatable prices! The waiter was rude from the moment my fiancé and I walked in. We complained about the food and I understand that they were busy, but it didn't taste right. The biscuits were rubbery and the gravy was mediocre. We were trying to explain the biscuits were the problem to the cook and she wouldn't stop saying it was just that we didn't like it. We weren't trying to tell her that we wanted anything free. But, she kept saying that she wasn't taking it off the bills. That wasn't the only problem though, we never said anything about anything but the biscuits and the waitress claimed we complained about everything on the table.
