Williams at Advanced Medical Hair Institute on July 10, 2024.* The final procedure was over 3,800 grafts and cost over $26,000 after a last-minute add-on the day of surgery.* My scar has been documented at approximately 32 cm long and 4-7 mm wide.* I was a short-hair wearer before surgery, and that was known. In my experience, graft count appeared to matter more than how a linear FUT scar would affect my haircut.* I tried to resolve this privately, but after the office directed me toward arbitration and I asked for the agreement, administrator, rules, and filing process, communication was cut off. The only reason I chose FUT was because I believed I was paying a premium price for a premium surgical result and because I was led to believe the scar would be "end of a comb" thin. To me, that meant roughly 1-2 mm. A 4-7 mm scar across 32 cm is not close to that. Before surgery, I understood the plan to be $25,000 for 3,500 grafts. After pricing had already been discussed, I was offered additional grafts beyond 3,500 so they supposedly would not "go to waste." This was right before surgery, when I was anxious and the procedure was moving forward. I felt pressured, agreed, and the final cost went above $26,000. My head wrap almost came off during the first night so I went back the next day, When the wrap was removed, an assistant was counting grafts that have been dislodged. As she counted upward, Dr. Williams interrupted and minimized the number. They recorded 8 missing grafts, which I believe is inaccurate due to the noticeable missing density on my left side. During follow-ups, my scar, density, and asymmetry concerns did not feel seriously addressed. The visits felt focused on showing miniaturization and steering me toward the clinic's in-house dutasteride/minoxidil product. I raised concerns about side effects and was encouraged toward 2.5 mg dutasteride. That is five times the standard 0.5 mg labeled dutasteride dose. Medication information I later reviewed showed higher sexual side-effect rates at 2.5 mg compared with 0.5 mg. For hair-loss patients, that is not a small detail. I later pursued SMP to camouflage the scar and wear my hair shorter since the results on top were underwhelming. The clinic recommended SMP, and I went to the SMP artist recommended by the clinic. In my experience, that did not solve the problem. I spent about $4,000 on SMP and corrective SMP, and the scar remains difficult to hide. The SMP artist told me in writing that the scar is difficult to camouflage and wider than an average FUT scar. When I contacted the clinic about the scar, the response was that my scar had been marked "Good" during follow-up visits. To my knowledge, no objective scar measurements were taken. I do not understand how a scar later documented around 32 cm long and 4-7 mm wide could be described internally as "Good" without measurement. I also consulted another H/T surgeon regarding scar repair. While my main concern is the donor scar, that surgeon told me, in his opinion, the density on top did not look indicative of a 3,800+ graft procedure. I attempted to resolve this privately before posting. The clinic relied on arbitration language and a review clause stating negative comments had to be held. I understand my right to leave a truthful review about my own experience, photos, and costs. When I asked for the arbitration agreement, administrator, rules, and filing procedures, I did not receive a workable process. At one point, the office stated that "no further communication" with their office was necessary. I accepted FUT because I expected an extremely thin scar, followed the recommended SMP path, spent thousands more trying to camouflage it, and I am still left with a large visible scar. As a small example of the disconnect between premium pricing and experience, the "VIP lunch" during my $26,000+ procedure was Chick-fil-A.

She gave me some caretaking tips like avoiding water for the first 24 hours and to try to avoid excessive heat to prevent the curls from unraveling. She also gave me spoolie brushes to brush them out and keep them in top notch shape. Best of all, it's been weeks and it still looks amazing. I've had friends whose lashes fall off shortly after and it starts look sparse. I didn't have that experience at all.
