"Range"of cost for root canal suggested by Dr prior to surgery was around $1200. Find it hard to believe that since the base cost of the root canal was $1644, the Dr didn't know this was a low estimate . Imagine my surprise on check out after what I can only describe as a friendly but painful procedure for the final bill to be $2450. Would never have done it had I had any idea. My fault for not being more pointed in questioning. LAST ROOT CANAL EVER! Add to the RC a new crown at $1200 plus and the economics suggest pull the tooth or get an implant which has lower risk of future problems.

Stay away unless out of pocket cost and insurance coverage don't matter to you. Dr. Campbell and…read morehis office have questionable business practices, and when I brought it up, they were dismissive and Dr. Campbell himself was very arrogant. The Christian persona and mission work he does apparently don't extend to his practice. Last year, I had a crown that fell off and my dentist recommended that I see Dr. Campbell to make sure there wasn't a problem with the root canal that Dr. Campbell had performed prior to the crown being put on. I was in a lot of pain, but when I contacted his office, I was told he was going out of town on a mission trip and they would not let me see the other doctor in the practice because I had originally seen Dr. Campbell. So I had to wait 24 days to see him, in pain the entire time. When I finally got in, they took x-rays (and refused to request the existing x-rays from my dentist). They then performed a CT before I even saw the doctor, but when I questioned this, I was brushed off and just told that the doctor would go over everything with me. When I finally saw Dr. Campbell, he looked at the x-rays only and told me that everything looked great. I specifically asked if he could tell everything from the x-ray and was told yes. When I asked why the CT was performed, he only then looked at it and just said again that everything was great. He then walked me to the front office, handed off my chart and left. It was then that I was informed that I owed $150 for the CT because insurance never covers them. I said that is not acceptable at all for several reasons. The first is I hadn't even seen the doctor and he hadn't looked at any x-rays to see if a CT was even warranted. Secondly, I should have been told that the office would like to do a CT scan, but that insurance wouldn't cover it, and asked if I would be okay with that. The fact that it was just done and I was told after the fact that it wasn't covered and hit with a large bill is very deceptive and even unethical. At this time, I asked to speak with Dr. Campbell to let him know that I couldn't believe that I was being charged and expressed that things should have been done differently. His response was that it was needed for diagnostic purposes. I replied and said at first you didn't even pull up the CT until I asked about it and had already told me that you could see everything from the x-rays. He said that is just the way our office does things. However, their own website says of the CT scan, "Dental Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CT) is a special type of x-ray equipment used when regular dental or facial x-rays are not sufficient." Since the x-ray had not even been reviewed, they could not have known that they would be insufficient (when by Dr. Campbell's own words, they were sufficient), thus the CT scan should not have been performed. A few days later, I wrote Dr. Campbell a letter, expressing my disappointment in the way the entire thing was handled and his response was "Roger that, sorry to lose you as a patient. My standards are my standards which are very high apparently compared to your value in my expertise and your dental health." There are lots of good endodontists in the Houston area - find one that doesn't perform procedures that he knows will not be covered and are of questionable necessity without even bothering to talk to you about the financial impact of his practices on you. We all know that performing the CT did not cost him anywhere close to $150, but keeping that profit was more important to him than his patient.

DO NOT GO TO DR. GREGORY ELLIS. On January 22, 2026, Dr…read more Ellis performed a root canal on me. During that procedure, my anesthesia wore off. He ignored my cries. He ignored my pleading for him to stop. Without my consent, he continued the procedure and then attempted to gaslight me afterwards. Upon arrival, his assistant Tabitha prepped me for the procedure and laid me down in the chair. Dr. Ellis came in, did not acknowledge me, did not say hello, and did not say he was beginning work. He proceeded to open my mouth and start injecting the local anesthetic. I jumped at the first injection as I could not see what he was doing. He still said nothing. The second shot was on the palette side of my mouth. It hurt so much that I jumped and kicked my legs up. The first words out of his mouth were, "that shouldn't hurt." I should have left right then and there. He then started talking as if I was not there saying there was a lot of blood. He gave me another shot. At this point I started crying in pain. I looked up and he was gone. He said nothing to me. As I cried, I told Tabitha that, at the very least, he should have told me that he was about to start injecting the anesthetic. She had no response. The procedure began with no communication to me. Dr. Ellis and Tabitha discussed 80s music playing on the radio as I laid back getting my root canal. Halfway through the procedure, he left the room and instructed her to give the disinfectant every 30 seconds for the next 10 minutes. Approximately half way though the disinfecting, I started to feel pain. Tabitha saw me react to her touching my teeth and asked if I was in pain. I said YES! I had pillow in my mouth, a rubber dam and some mechanism holding the tooth. I could feel everything! She asked again, "Are you sure you're hurting?" I nodded and said "YES! I am in pain!" as best I could with all of the equipment in my mouth. She replied and said, "Let me go tell him." I heard her tell Doctor Ellis TWICE that I was in pain. He came back in and, without discussion, continued the procedure. I screamed for him to stop! I cried for him to stop! My arms and legs were thrashing. He finally said, "You don't feel that." I cried that I can feel it! He continued, "You shouldn't be feeling that. You didn't react when I was working earlier." He finally finished the procedure. I had been crying and yelling so hysterically that I had snot and saliva dripping down my face and mouth. He instructed Tabitha, "get her something to wipe her face". She gave me a tissue. Someone came in and gave me a warm towel to wipe off my face. Tabatha said I needed to do X-rays post surgery. I excused myself to the restroom first. When I returned, I exclaimed to Tabitha that I could feel everything! She stood there uncomfortably. She took the X-rays without discuss of the trauma I just endured. He came back in the room and continued to gaslight me. "You shouldn't have felt anything." "BUT I DID! SHE TOLD YOU I FELT PAIN! Tabitha told you I was in pain!" I, of course, felt the need to explain myself even further. I have a high pain tolerance. I was crying for you to stop. His reply, "that was very unusual." His bizarre, numb reaction was absolutely stunning. He sat there looking at me as if I was completely insane. I could see that the conversation was going nowhere. I asked if there was a prescription. He asked if Tabitha gave me Aleve before we began. Yes, she did. He said that is enough and to take some more later if I need. Then he walked out. Before leaving, I asked Tabitha and the woman at the front desk if there would be any prescribed pain medication. They said no. Tabitha said, if I needed, she could call in prednisone. And that was that. I walked out. No care. No apology. No pain medication. This office is small. 3 dental chairs and a front lobby. All open. Every person in that office hear my cries. They ALL ignored me. I sat in my car for a long while afterward sobbing. I was in pain. I felt violated. How could this happen??!! The only thing I could think to do was to call the dentist who referred me. I gave her a full account and she was in disbelief. She was very supportive. A few hours later, Tabitha texted me and apologized that I was in pain and was sending in the prednisone prescription. The next day, I received a call from an unknown number. I picked up the phone and it was Dr. Ellis. He said he was "checking in" but it quickly turned to more gaslighting. I told him I wasn't doing well because of what happened. He continued with the "it was unusual" and "shouldn't have happened." He even said that it was a bad experience for him too! He denied that I was in pain. He denied that I asked him to stop. I did my best to stay calm. "I told you I was in pain. Tabitha told you I was in pain, TWICE. Everyone in your office heard me crying for you to stop, yet you continued without my consent." Silence. He tried changing the tone of the conversation by asking, "What would

They are just on another level when…read moreit comes to root canals with their equipment and expertise and can handle the difficult root canals that general dentists aren't equipped to do or perhaps correct a mistake of a previous dentist *cough* after you've already got a crown or already had a root canal that didn't get sealed up right or whatever other horror show you're dealing with. Honestly, I'm even debating whether I would just come here first even for a more routine root canal which hopefully I won't need because they are so precise and don't drill the holes any bigger than they need to be. Cost-wise, they ARE more expensive than your regular dentist if you're comparing apples to apples but you're really not comparing apples to apples here because all they do here is root canals and specialize in it. Having said that, I felt the price wasn't outrageous and fair given the quality of work and saving my tooth. The only room for improvement is getting the notes and referral papers back and forth from your general dentist and them. They not only did not receive the notes my dentist had sent them but they also failed to send their notes to her on that day so you might want to call and double check that they got everything before you go there and have to pretend to be a dentist- pro tip: If you want to sound smart, remember the tooth numbers and use fancy terms like "referred pain".

I had a difficult root canal to accomplish and she did it with skill and expertise. I wish she had done my previous four root canals over my life. What an amazing difference!
