Dr. Johnson took over my dental care when his brother-in-law (then my dentist) sold his practice. The change over worked well - Dr. Johnson is an excellent dentist. He's not inexpensive - but you get the care for which you pay. He does recommend more complete solutions to a dental issue - he tends to favor long term solutions rather than quick fixes. His support staff are good and very competent - as well as enjoyable and fun to deal with (and that's a sentence I never thought I write about a dental office.) I'd recommend Dental Excellence without qualm. read more

Went to this dentist when my long time dentist sold his business to them. Turned out it was my old dentists' brother-in-law (didn't tell me that). Went to see them twice, never saw the dentist, only cleaning. For my third visit, no one could confirm I'd see the dentist again. I go to a dentist to see a dentist, not just a cleaning. I pay insurance to see a dentist, but didn't get that there. I changed dentists, then went trough a nightmare to get my records transferred. Complete incompetence with their clerical staff. This just a very unprofessional, incompetent dental office. Stay away! read more

Dr J has a great team. Made me feel very well taken care of. Had some pretty major work done and I'm pleased with the results. Cost is always a concern and Dr J explained exactly what he could do for me and his initial estimate was accurate which helped me budget accordingly. Always get a second opinion when you go to dental excellence. He has a tendency to pull teeth that don't need to be pulled. I've talk to Specialist that said he's not qualified to do the work he does. And I've talked to several people that he said needed certain work done and when they went to a specialist to get a second opinion he couldn't find anything that Dr. Johnson diagnosed was correct. I have to say that my experience with Dental Excellence team was amazing. I am someone who can't stand to have anything in my mouth, my PTSS/PTSD kicks in. The last time I went to a dentist I was told by the front desk person that my wisdom teeth needed to come out and it would be surgically done. I was told that I over reacted when having the X-rays done and that I was making it worse for myself. After my wisdom teeth were pulled I had severe pain and couldn't open my mouth for over a month. I was told I looked like a chipmunk. I bled a lot & because I couldn't open my mouth to eat I ended up with dry sockets. I had to have them cut open for them to heal properly. The team at Dental Experience was very caring and while doing my X-rays they didn't rush me or pressure me. They seem to understand and did their best to help me to stay calm. Even though it was horribly uncomfortable and I was in a panicked state they worked with me and I was able to have all the X-rays needed. For me I call it one of my best experiences with dental X-rays. It was bad but a good bad if that makes any sense. After the X-rays Dr. Johnson showed them to me and explained in language I understood what I would need to have done on my next day appointment. He was very kind & understanding. Something I had never experienced with a dentist before. Dr. Johnson knew I would have to be sedated and he prepared me for it. I left feeling good about my next appointment. The next day I went in for my dental work, (1 filling & 2 extractions). Dr. Johnson is THE best dentist I've ever gone to & I had THE best dental experience I've ever had in my entire life. I left feeling good and I've not had any severe pain like I have had in the past with other dentist & I am not swollen like a chipmunk. I was able to eat without pain. Dr. Johnson and his team will do all my dental work. read more

My 87 year old mother has been going to Dental Excellence for twenty years. When I became her caregiver, I continued taking her to this practice because I felt they were familiar with her history. Unknown to me, the practice had been taken over by a new dentist, Dr. Johnson. First, they neglected to tell me she didn't need to take an antibiotic any longer prior to her four times a year cleaning. Then they did $3500 worth of root canals and crowns. This is an 87 year old woman who had been going in every three months for cleaning! I agreed to the procedure thinking it was for real, and now I have my doubts. I pre-paid for the service to be rendered within the next two weeks. After the dental work was finished, I saw that they charged her credit card an additional $400 without authorization! When I tried to call them, nobody answered the phone and there was no message machine. After three days of trying, I called the credit card company had had them block the charge. The next day the office called me and I explained it was an unauthorized charge whereupon they agreed to remove the charge. A week later a bill arrived for $400! I ignored it after leaving a message on their answering machine that it would not be paid and demanded to receive a receipt for a zero balance. They did comply with this demand. Their service was a complete outrage. I switched her to my dentist after that, and them ask for her records. They could not get through to them by phone, and the messages they left (five or six) were never returned. I drove to Dental Excellence while my mother was sitting in my dentist's chair in order to retrieve her xrays. They acted as if they had never been asked for them, however it was only 20 minutes since I watched my dental receptionist call and leave another message about needing the xrays. They also sold my mother a USED electric toothbrush for $100, which sells in stores (new) for $45. Honest, there were water stains on the stand and one of the toothbrushes was missing. It is absolutely shameful how this practice is operated, and it is a total rip-off. They should be investigated! Did I mention her new dentist is concerned that one of the teeth discussed above may need to be extracted soon? The work was only done six weeks ago. read more

I had a horrible experience with Dental Excellence. I can't believe they have that name they are far from excellent and shouldn't be dentist. In 2011 I had 2 root canals and a crown. Never fun but what they put me through was and still is short of unprofessional. First off waiting to get in once you have checked in will be at least 1/2 hour so make that adjustment in your day. Then on these last visits, I didn't even see my doctor. I am a patient of Dr. Schmidt and not Dr. Anderson or Dr. Tudor or whoever else they get to cover. The fact is Dr. Schmidt retired a year ago and these yahoos have been running the show. OK so then I get to the chair and it's another 15 minutes before I see the doctor (whoever it is) and he gives me a local and says he will be right back. 45 minutes later he shows up and starts to put the splash barrier on that he can't get right and soaks me. Maybe it was because he couldn't stop flirting with the intern that had no experience at all and giggled like my teenage daughter. OK, they start drilling and after about 15 minutes he has to go attend to another patient. So he leaves come back and does this for about an hour. Until I can't take the pain anymore because the anesthetics have worn off. He give me some more anesthetics (first time I've been re-dosed in a dental procedure) so he can put a temp filling in to go at it again in two days to "finish the job". This is the only root canal I have had done that I needed pain meds after the nerves had supposedly been killed. The crown never sat right and I still have pain in that tooth. I could go on and on but here is the happy ending I get. So after all is said and done I get a bill in February saying I owe $1,400.00 and they had billed both my insurances so that was my part. Hu''the front office ran me over my limit of benefits. They rushed me in to have two root canals and a crown in 1 months time so that I would use all my benefits and not waste them. Then woops they screwed up, I am ultimately responsible but they advised me the wrong way. I would have been happy happy, happy to wait another month to have the second one done. So the end is I ask for relief of some of the bill not all they say shove it and I'm stuck. So I'm going to do whatever I can to save someone else this kind of dental experience. They dropped the ball in the front office and in the chair. read more

Until dental excellence I've always hated going to the dentist. At dental excellence they put you first. You don't feel rushed or squeezed in a spot. Dr. Johnson and his staff have been our dental care providers for quite a while and we couldn't be happier with the care we receive. His friendly demeanor and calming atmosphere makes me feel at ease whenever I visit (like most, I use to be hesitant of going to the dentist).
