Growing up I remember hating cleanings, and they would always hurt and my gums would bleed. I find the hygiene people to be friendly and the doctor to be knowledgeable, and also looking out for your best interests. Now the story of the missing star. Every time I visit, I have to take a photograph at the front desk and sign in which is a safety precaution. I believe Dr. DeRario is a great dentist. Unfortunately, being that he has two locations, he sees people on specific days. My general feelings for this place is satisfaction, even though sometimes I have fear of dentists overall. I guess most of the time, I leave with a smile because there is always quick turn around. I have never had an appointment that lasted more than 45 minutes. The administrative assistants are helpful, too. They tell me about the co-pays and also work with me to make an appointment that fits best with my schedule. These ladies also send me a reminder a few days ahead to let me know that I have an appointment which I really appreciate. Most times, I do not get appointments with Dr. DeRario. Instead, I have some of dental visits with his associate whose name is Felicia who not only is thorough in cleaning my teeth but kind in assisting me with flossing and answering my questions. Oooh, and good news, there is also a bathroom available.

The staff is very nice and professional and the doctors (father, Carlos, and son, Brian) are very good at what they do. My son broke a tooth as a small child. The crown never fit right and was causing the gum to erode. When he smiled you knew the tooth was a crown and I hated the way it looked. Dr. Brian repaired the gum and replaced the crown. What a difference. I personally need a good deal of dental work. Dr. Brian has been treating me and so far so good. Dr. Brian also called me after an extensive treatment to see how I was doing. I can't tell you how much I appreciated that. I also had a dental emergency and was treated by Dr. Carlos. Dr. Carlos could have done the procedure in-house but thought it would be better handled by a specialist. It was a painless and quick process and I appreciate that Dr. Carlos made the referral. I highly recommend this practice.

When I went into exam room, Jennna took my history and asked questions about my dental problem. Her manner also put me at ease. Meeting Dr Zatzkin was next... he listened to my long complicated history and I mean he really listened. I liked him immediately. And Dr. Z ensures that you know what to do for proper aftercare, leaving nothing to nothing to chance. His post-procedure call to check up on me that evening was the icing on the that cake. This won't be the first rave review I've written about Dr. Zatzkin and his office--just the latest since I began my long journey to better gum health well over a decade back, including implants, a first gum graft and pinhole gum surgery he's qualified to perform, which was both successful and virtually a cakewalk thanks to his mastery of the procedure. Hey, it's not an exciting topic, but I think of Dr. Z's expertise and good nature as symbolic of something grander in terms of my having complete confidence in his skills in a world where most of us find our confidence in services severely lagging. To say it best, I'll echo a letter I read in his office from another loyal, satisfied patient, which says, "Thank you for making my gum repairs enjoyable." Yes, the words "gum repairs" and "enjoyable" may sound oxymoronic, but between the terrific, helpful staff--five stars to all, the above-mentioned Quaneesha; Dana, my fave hygienist; Rachel, who got my insurance info processed and approved (hallelujah!); and Krystal at the front desk, whose calm, helpful presence is so welcome-- and the doctor's firm handshake and warm smile whenever I visit, it's the single most enjoyable gum-repair experience from Timbuktu to Portland, Maine--or Portland, Oregon, for that matter! Trust is a rare commodity nowadays--and I trust Dr. Z.
