Located on Rt 28 in Shokan, NY, Door J. worked for several reasons: we knew we were getting solid wood doors, close to home and, we were satisfied with the customer service from the get-go when we first came here to inquire. Plus Door J., has an incredible stock on salvaged doors that come directly from suppliers. They claim their doors are "either overstock, inaccurate orders, or have slight cosmetic defects, but all the products are new and structurally sound". And if you can't find your door here, one will be ordered for you. That's what we did. I love our wide pass-through living room in our new home, but we wanted to have the option of closing it off if we want to- or keeping it open. Barn-styled doors was our go-to. Chris was super helpful the first time we came here and gave us a in-depth rundown about Door J. Do know, this place does not: (1)deliver and (2)install doors- because that's on you or your contractor- if you're using one- which we did. We were also in the market for slider windows for our basement and these folks helped with that. Because Door J. is an Andersen Window distributor, we were even more ecstatic that we could have our cake and eat too by ordering our barn doors AND 5 small slider windows because they seal tightly against air, water and anything else. They carry lighting equipment, painting items, a kitchen+ bathroom design dep't, textiles, BBQ accessories, vacuum cleaners, gardening supplies, candles, some clothing- heck, even minimalist jewelry in a glass case, etc. My girl with the glasses in the paint department was smooth and patient. She took her time when we asked her questions about colors and how each color stain would react to raw wood. Service was fine, we left with smiles and was the opposite of everything that's been written here in the past. I've been getting lumber and hardware at Woodstock Building Supply for 4 years now. A few days ago, however, I had the single worst experience taking a lumber delivery in over forty years of taking such deliveries. The delivery person, who identified himself as Abdul, was abusive, aggressive, and physically threatening. Whether he misheard my response when he asked where I wanted the material, I can't say, but he got out of the truck and walked thirty feet to get nose to nose with me and tell me to "back off." He refused to offload the material, opting to continue his diatribe and threatening demeanor, until I had unloaded half of it. I attempted to call the office during this and was unable to get through. I called afterward and left a message for Chris to please call me to resolve this episode, but heard nothing back. I called three more times, and each time Abdul answered the phone and informed me that Chris was "indisposed." I called again and managed to get Chris on the phone, and when I explained the incident, his initial response was defensive and essentially telling me that I was obviously mistaken because they've never had a complaint. I explained that I've dealt with their organization many times with great results and this was an outlier, and he relented somewhat and said he was "hearing me and talking it very seriously" and that he'd look into it and get back to me. It has been over a week and no "getting back to me" has occurred. The bottom line for me here is that Woodstock Building Supply charged me fifty dollars to deliver five sheets of plywood (total charge was $537) sent an aggressive, confrontational, abusive, emotionally unstable person to my home, and now refuse to be accountable to a paying customer. Paying for abuse? No thanks.

Tbh, I'm really not a DIYer- I rather pay someone to do it than me buying a gazillion products to repair something myself. Tucked away in the scenic town of High Falls, NY, Rosado Works is a rare find in a region full of furniture repair shops- but many that don't work on small pieces. While those repair shops overlook smaller pieces like mine, Rosado Works specializes in giving these items (and larger ones too) the attention they deserve. Luis isn't just a woodworker, but a true artisan. He treated that one specific jewelry case with the respect it deserved, carefully repairing the worn look of it, refreshing the finish and bringing it back to life. Honestly, my jewelry case now stands sturdier- hell, even prettier than I ever imagined. I also brought a green painted chair with metal studs on the seat that needed one of its sticks on the back to be permanently placed. And while I tried using wood glue to hold the stick in place, that stick would hold for about a minute and fall all over again. So I needed Luis' help. Again, he went beyond the 'wood glue' because in reality, my chair needed more surgery than that. Just a heads-up: there might be a bit of a wait, as your pieces won't be the only ones on his bench. But he always gets to them- and staying in touch via text keeps things smooth. Totally worth the patience for the quality of work he delivers. Ca$h, Zelle & Venmo payments accepted.
