But I'm so disappointed in this experience so I have to share.... I went to this dental practice in March for an evaluation and cleaning. I was told based on X-rays from another practice that I had 3 cavities and needed a crown. I completely trusted the evaluation and scheduled the appointment. Keep in mind, the previous dental office only stated I needed a deep cleaning. I returned for the temporary crown placement...as I have never had a crown, I expected to receive an explanation of what would be happening...I received no explanation and was told by the dental assistance with red locs to stop googling the procedure since it would just scare me...still no information was provided, only endless documents for me to sign releasing the practice from any liability...that should have given me pause but I proceeded. Afterward, I was told I may have minor discomfort but no one told me to take pain meds. The pain after I got home was so intense, I had to find some old pain meds from when I got dental work years ago to allow me to actually function at work. Ibuprofen was not enough! After temporary crown placement, I returned for the permanent crown in 3-4 week, this was the worst dental experience I have ever had! It was sooo painful! When the same dental assistant tried to remove the temporary she simply stated like me try without anesthetic...when I told her it was painful, she responded you didn't even let me try and seemingly had an attitude about it! Dr. Wright came in, provided an injection of anesthetic without even numbing the area. Once the temporary was removed she returned to place the permanent...I wasn't given a warning that it would be painful. It was the most intense pain I have ever experienced...I was only told it was expected when I literally jumped and moaned in pain...wtf! After that was over, I vowed to never return...well that doesn't end it... I continued to have discomfort the weeks following...I called to report it about 2 weeks after and was told to call back in a couple weeks if I continued to have pain...it continued and I decided to see another practice. I was then referred to an endodontist who said I needed a root canal...I've now had 2 root canals on the same tooth and still having issues... The lack of information provided before I received crown placement is my biggest issue...not blaming this dental office for the issue after the crown but at least inform patients of what is going to done and what to expect after is the least that should be provided. Talk to the patient. Also provide adequate pain management for procedures...I still shiver when thinking about when the permanent crown was placed...

I really enjoy their model of making "going to the dentist" not a boring chore. The facilities are clean and pretty, featuring "The Brushery" after you get checked in. They give you a free toothbrush and toothpaste in a travel size carrying bag when you come for the first time. They also offer select TV episodes to watch while you are in the treatment room. I liked that the staff weren't too forceful selling their services, for example the dentist referred me to a dental surgeon for a consult. They gave me helpful dental hygiene tips and my teeth are looking shinier than ever! I am coming back in October for a follow-up.

The glowing reviews you'll see here are outdated--many of the doctors being praised, like Dr. Andrew, don't even work here anymore. Since the practice relocated and Dr. Koch took over, it's been a steady and disappointing decline. Dr. Koch took over the practice and it's completely gone downhill since they've moved. She hasn't personally examined my teeth in years, except for brief check-ins for orthodontic treatment. Most of my visits have been with Dr. Mondani, who completely lacks chair-side manner and shows zero warmth or connection. Every interaction now feels rushed, impersonal, and transactional. It's clear the focus is no longer on patient care--it's on moving people in and out as fast as possible. The new office space mirrors the cold, detached experience: sterile, industrial, and uninviting. It's the perfect metaphor for how the practice now operates--clinical and profit-driven, with none of the comfort or care you'd hope for in a family dental office. One of the other issues that adds to the decline of this place is that they no longer validate the parking for a full visit. They only validate for 1 hour and they have NEVER actually gotten me in and out within an hour so I have a pay a balance when I leave. It's only a few dollars but it's quite an annoyance. Another huge issue is the turnover is staff, clearly there is an issue with how they treat their employees as well because the tech turnover is insanely high. I haven't seen the same tech more than twice in a row and I'm trying to get to know a new tech each time. This used to be a dental office I trusted and recommended. Not anymore. If you're looking for a practice that values you as a patient and runs with professionalism and care, look elsewhere. This place is a shell of what it used to be.

I had some work done in April and September 2025 and the practice, as had always been done, billed my dental plan, and I paid the uncovered balance. Some time later I requested that Decatur Smiles review my 2026 dental plan options, as I was thinking of making a change and wanted to know what plans they'd accept. My request was quickly dismissed but I pressed on and asked if Decatur Smiles would at least call Humana, which they did. An inexcusably lengthy VM message and follow up text explained that essentially the practice is not in network with any dental plan but would file for benefits on your behalf. Today I received an email from Humana clarifying the dental coverage in line with a point I had made some weeks earlier; I passed it on routinely as a matter of information. I received the following text in response: "Unfortunately, I spent some quality time with a representative last Thursday, explaining the situation & giving her the dental code programs that you had sent us last week. At this point, because of the continuous discrepancies we are encountering, the only solution would be for you to pay in full as a self pay, and then we will provide you with the documentation & dental codes, so that you may self submit. Your insurance is just that, a contract between you and them. We are only the 3rd party payee. If this is not acceptable, please let us know if you would like to cancel your appointment for November 20th. Thank you!" So basically Decatur Smiles told me to go **** myself. What do you think?

After knocking, we waited approximately 20 minutes before Aaliyah arrived. She explained that the doctor was already supposed to be there and sincerely apologized for the delay. After waiting an additional 30 minutes in the lobby, the doctor texted Aaliyah requesting my friend's X-rays for a wisdom tooth extraction. We were then moved into the procedure room, where we waited for another hour. Eventually, Aaliyah informed us that the doctor was not answering her calls and asked us to reschedule for the following day. The next day, we called the office before leaving home to confirm the appointment, but once again, no one answered. We were never contacted to provide an update, apologize, or follow up regarding the missed appointment. Overall, we drove an hour each way, spent nearly two hours waiting, and ultimately received no treatment. While I genuinely appreciate Aaliyah's professionalism, the lack of communication, organization, and respect for patients' time was unacceptable.
