I never write these kinds of reviews, but this was by far the worst experience I've ever had with a dental office. They tried to convince me I needed thousands of dollars worth of unnecessary procedures. I got a second opinion, and it turned out none of that was true. They then tried to balance bill me hundreds of dollars for my initial cleaning appointment, despite being an in-network provider. Do not go here. Get a recommendation from someone you know. The places with generic names like Dentistry at the Heights are corporate-owned and will try to upsell you at every opportunity and misrepresent your dental health to do so. read more

If I could give ten stars I would. I've been a patient at Dentistry at The Heights for nearly two years and every visit is a pleasure and the results are as good as I could have hoped for. As someone who fully appreciates a well-run team it's great to watch this very efficient group work together. It's clear that everyone there loves what they do and that is doing the best dental work that they can while always making sure that the patient is happy, healthy and comfortable. The team at Dentistry at The Heights takes their work up to a level of an art form. I don't just mean the results - which, like I said, are excellent - but I mean the act of working together in an office setting. From the first person who ever greeted me there - Naila - every interaction has been a pleasure and every member of the team is working together to constantly make sure I get what I need at every moment. Demetria is a very skillful assistant and a great caretaker. Rosa is always making sure everything is right with my cosmetic treatments. Aska is a cheerful hygienist. Dr. Trotter, the maestro, sets the tone and does phenomenal work while being slightly over-concerned with my comfort. None of this could have been possible without Kate (not sure if she's still there) who worked out a payment plan with me so that I could do invisiline and is supremely knowledgable about insurance, always crunching the numbers so that my employer coverage goes as far as it can. I'm very happy to have found this practice and look forward to continuing treatment from this top-notch team. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! IT WAS A WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I would mark no star at all. Let me tell you, the front desk staff don't even know / care whether your insurance covers or not, but they tell you they WILL. They told me I only needed to pay certain amount, so I believed them and agreed to get treated. What they gave me for the estimate was so unclear and indicated random prices, so it will just confuse you. In the end, my insurance didn't cover so I got charged $1K. IT WAS MY BIGGEST MISTAKE that I believed the front desk staff. The dentist who treated me has a skill and there is no issue with my teeth. But the problem is that the clinic do not spend time checking your insurance's policies before the procedure!! They make money by tricking patients. read more

I have been a patient for 34 years! First with Dr. Nathan Trotter and with Dr. Kevin Trotter. I have had very extensive dental work including many implants. I love this office! Dr. Kevin Trotter is very professional, uses very modern and high tech procedures. He is always learning up to date procedures and my husband and I have both found him to be extremely caring and responsive to any concerns. His hygienists are top notch and he has a very helpful office staff. We recently went in for a checkup and cleaning after so many months of COVID closure and felt completely comfortable with their procedures. The other negative reviews all have a common thread - one I *strongly* second: this practice will try to upsell you on expensive treatments you don't need, often while you're in the chair -- ie, you don't ever just have a cleaning, they always want you get an expensive "deep cleaning" afterwards. It's more than just benign things like cleanings -- it's also expensive things like crowns. After Dr. Trotter insisted that I needed a crown and a root canal, I sought a second opinion with another dentist -- a root canal specialist -- who said (a) not only did I not need a root canal but (b) I definitely didn't need a crown. (And he was right; I didn't need either of those things. That tooth is totally fine to this day) They also have a bizarre practice of charging you upfront rates that are higher than the agreed upon insurance rates - with the promise of reimbursing you the overcharges -- which on the face of it is insane -- but also requires that you the patient stay on top of them to do the math and reimburse you. At my last employer we had a "dental concierge" who handled these things but after their interactions with Trotter's office they reached out to recommend I not return to Trotter's practice because of their billing practices. Alas, I *did* return one last time -- because I'd been receiving emails and mailers from this practice asking me to come back -- so I scheduled a cleaning and when I arrived was informed that they wouldn't do a cleaning without also doing a full exam and a full set of X-rays (additional charges again!) -- When I pushed back and said I was only there b/c I'd received a mailer saying it's time for a cleaning and please come back - the (rude) hygienist informed me that "this is not a spa, you don't come in for a spa service and leave" - When I informed Dr. Trotter of this bonkers interaction with his hygienist ("this is not a spa"? who thinks getting their teeth cleaned is a spa treatment ANYWAY??) he asked if I had ever written a negative review of them online, which got me thinking, that I *should* write an online review. That this dental practice are exactly what online reviews are for. read more

I had work done here in November 2016 which is still causing me pain. I've come in at least 5 times for adjustments, and in my last visit was told I likely have nerve damage related to that procedure. Dr. Trotter was incredibly patronizing when I asked for a refund to have this redone elsewhere, and explained I'd need a root canal to remedy issue this at an additional cost. The staff here is great, I really have no other complaints but the actual work done seems to have left me worse off. read more

I've been a patient here for 5 years. Myself , my husband and children come here routinely. I even recommended this place to my sister who became a patient as well. I come every 3 months for cleaning, and I've never had to cancel an appointment last minute before. Now I'm 7 months pregnant, I wasn't feeling well and I had to reschedule my appointment "last minute". I called 24h in advance and they insist on changing me $75 cancellation fee. They don't care why I'm cancelling and that I've been a long standing customer. For them it's all about making money. The secretary on the phone even said to me "because you are not coming the doctor is loosing money". The math does not add up, 4 appointments a year that I come for is definitely more than $75. But they would rather have $75 than me as their patient. After this very unpleasant interaction myself and my family are not coming back. read more

This clinic should be more upfront with their patients. When I went in for my visit, I wasn't told that my insurance wouldn't pay for 100% of my routine check up and cleaning. One would think that such a fact would be willingly offered after I provided my insurance details, given that I went in for a simple routine, and not some treatment where a copay is more likely than not. I then spent about 1/3 of my visit being sold on the other services they provide, and why I should come back for more cleaning and more checkups. This selling was accompanied with a price list detailing the percentages I had to pay with my insurance coverage. When I asked why I wasn't 100% covered by my insurance, the response I received was that my employer picked a lousy plan for me and that if I had a different insurance provider, things would be different. Not once did they mention that they were not a Delta PPO clinic that would have 100% coverage. I was made to believe that my insurance plan had changed overnight and not that I could simply get 100% coverage if I had chosen to go to another clinic. The quality of care was okay, but all in all, the visit left a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended). read more

Dr. kevin trotter did an incredible amount of work on my lousy teeth. he did an excellent job and i would highly recommend him for regular dental care as well as bridges and root canals. what would you rather do? go to the dentist and avoid a root canal. despite the location the prices for the work done were reasonable. read more

Just because they take your insurance does NOT mean they are an in-network provider. If you go here, triple check with your insurance company before having any work done. At my initial visit, they reviewed with me the work that they recommended and went over the cost with me. It turns out that the final cost was double what I initially was told. They just shrugged and said my insurance was to blame. When I reviewed my plan information and challenged them on it, they finally revealed to me, after two visits, that they were NOT an in-network provider. I was floored that this was the first time they were sharing this with me. I am now out $800 for some preventative work that I NEVER would have had done if I would known the cost would be so exorbitant. I completely feel like I was scammed. read more

I have been using Kevin Trotter for just a few weeks now. He's great! I have really bad (apparently lol!) teeth, I'm a Brit ..... go figure! Kevin seems like he's just the man I need to Americanize my teeth. I was recommended this place by another Yelp user, sorry but I forgot her name. Anyway I am very happy with the way I have been treated there. They discuss all the pros and cons of different options to help you decide which option to choose. They explain things really well, no question is unanswered. They are a little bit pricey but then so is everyone else in NYC. So I'll blame the insurance companies NOT the dentists. I visited Dr. Trotter's office yesterday for the first time and I'm glad I did. They were able to accommodate me earlier than scheduled due to a bothersome and painful tooth. I unexpectedly needed a restorative gum procedure as well as placement of a crown after multiple imaging was done and he was able to do it all without me having to come back at a later date. Dr. Trotter as well as his staff are professional, time efficient, friendly and made my first time to the office very comfortable. They will be my long time dentist for years to come. read more

I am consistently impressed with Dr. Kevin Trotter and his staff at Dentistry at the Heights. Everyone in the front office is friendly and efficient. The hygienists are all skilled and knowledgeable. Equipment is state of the art. Dr. Trotter is exceptional in his knowledge about dental issues. This is an edit to my original review posted a few hours ago. If you receive a scary notice from your insurance company that says you may owe much more in co-pays than you have already paid, call the office. I originally gave Dentistry at the Heights two stars because I saw the previous reviews that claimed outrageous bills from insurance after the office quoted much lower rates and I was terrified that that had just happened to me. Once I called the office, I was assured that the extra amount would be write offs for the office and I do not owe them any additional money for the services. Phew. Dr. Tracz has the hands and mannerisms of an ANGEL. Best experience I have ever had at the dentist. I'm glad my insurance company is merely confusing as hell and nothing seems to actually be wrong because she is a terrific dentist. read more

I just switched to this office last week and so far I'm extremely happy. Everyone there was friendly, efficient, gentle, and communicative. I went for a cleaning and to replace a nightguard my dog destroyed. Dr. Trotter called me the evening before the appointment to welcome me to the practice, see if I had recent X-Rays from my previous dentist to avoid them having to take unnecessary ones (I did not), make sure they properly recorded what I was coming in for, and to see if I had any questions. At my appointment they took a full set of X-Rays, gave me a thorough cleaning, did a periodontal check to see if I needed a "deep clean" (I did not), did an oral cancer screening, and took pictures of three teeth to show me that the fillings in them had cracked, and one of the teeth itself had a hairline crack. They explained options for each one, and then showed me the anticipated cost with my insurance but said if I was willing to wait for the long insurance company turnaround, they could submit for preapproval to get a guaranteed cost. I never felt upsold. They said they did offer whitening if I was interested but did not push it at all. I have scheduled the appointment for the remaining work but haven't had it yet. Let me start by saying I live in St. Petersburg Florida The night before my sons wedding I lost a tooth in a denture. It happened at 10 pm. The next morning I made a call from the airport and to my surprise I found this amazing dental practice. I told them I would be there at about 2 pm and when I hadn't arrived I got a call asking if I was still coming. I arrived at 2:45 and was greeted by the friendliest people I've met in a long time. The doctor and staff worked on me for 45 minutes and I made it to the rehearsal dinner on time. Could not ask for a better experience Please remember I'm not a patient. Frightening. I just went in to DENTISTRY AT THE HEIGHTS to replace 2 cracked crowns that Dr Trotter did over the last 6 months. Despite assurances that every precaution was being taken to prevent "covid" transmission, I was shocked when Dr Trotter walked into the tiny dental room with no mask. When I complained he said he was wearing one and it was round his neck. After I asked twice he said he would wear an N95 mask, although he implied they where very valuable and maybe wasted on me. He was working between 2 patients in and out of the rooms in the same PPE and I was left to wait in the tiny room with no open windows for 40 minutes. His assistant assured me that she was tested 2 weeks ago and had been negative. Over the lockdown I had to pay Dr Trotter $800.00 to pay for replacement crowns and a gumguard. This was to include the replacement treatment. After waiting 40 minutes in the airless room I took my teeth and left. read more

I brought my daughter and the hygienist was awesome. You could tell she loved working with children. She was super patient and calm. The office had toys, a million shows for kids to choose from to distract while cleaning each of our teeth and a toy goodie bag my daughter is still working her way through. The office is clean and all of the equipment looks brand new. The staff was super friendly from the moment we entered until it was time to go. Dr. Trotter is an excellent dentist. While some people might dread going to the dentist, I know we won't mind going back in six months. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Trotter for years now -- and my teeth are looking better than ever! Over the years, I have had two implants and have chosen to replace my old composite fillings with porcelain. As a result, my teeth are white & healthy and I love my smile. Dr. Trotter is a well trained professional who clearly cares about dentistry, and so do his staff, who stay with him for years. Their technology is very up to date, which is a plus. I just wish dental insurance were better in this country. The staff is pleasant, the office is clean, and you can listen to your favorite playlist or watch TV if you want, while getting a cleaning. The technology Dr. Trotter uses is top notch, which not only helps with accuracy, but also efficiency. A procedure that would normally take two visits, took one. Best of the best! They have a focus on caring for my need as a patient and they use super cool technology! I was able to see my jaw in 3d! Then they printed my crown using some computerized 3d printer! Dr. Trotter was very knowledgeable and honest about What I needed and the staff really works with you to make sure you're utilizing my insurance to keep my out of pocket expenses to a minimum. This is a great office friendly staff best of the best in the area probably one of the best dental experiences you can have in the brooklyn area. I have been Kevin Trotter's patient for many years, for issues that required just a quick look and issues that required several visits and took nearly as much sweat and patience from the doctor as from the patient. In all cases, Dr Trotter's bedside manner was wonderful, as for his professional skill, let's just say that once you've gone past two implants, you either never want to see the same dentist again or he's become the friend who saved your mouth. In my case, he's that friend. The staff get kudos too. They are knowledgeable, quick, and pleasant on the phone, via email, and in person. They'll find your file in a sec, discuss insurance policy details you missed before you commit to a procedure, and much more. In person you get a smile to top it all. I was under the impression this was a decent dental office until the following incidents occurred. I should have thought twice when I was handed brochures for very expensive cosmetic procedures (not covered by insurance) before ever being seen by a dentist. I find this extremely unprofessional. This also gives you an idea of what their true nature is. In the last week, I have received 3 invisalign advertisements in the mail from them. After having a crown replaced, I left their office in the worst pain of my life. I crawled into a ball while I waited for painkillers to kick in. Furthermore, my insurance company rejected part of this treatment because the dental office failed to provide proof of crown buildup as necessary. The patient (me) was required to make up the difference. They claim to call your insurance for pre-authorization before any procedure. I believed this was true and would pay my portion at the time of visit. However, I recently received a bill from them for something I had already paid for in the office, claiming my insurance did not pick up the balance. Not sure how this could have happened, considering they call the insurance company BEFORE a procedure is done. I really don't appreciate receiving letters of a threatening nature to pay for something that was already taken care of while I was there in person. After several back and forth calls/emails with their front desk staff, I paid the balance and will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I had half of the work done and decided it was in my best interest to get a second opinion. The second opinion told me I need one filling replaced. One filling!! Additionally, even though we would pay the bill in full at the office, we would randomly get additional bills in the mail. They will put a crown on you any chance they get. Reading the reviews here, you can see this is a love/hate establishment. I only came here once, but thought I could offer some useful insights. First, the practice has some wonderful dentists and a strong support staff. They have their crap together, with great equipment, a nice goodie bag, and you even fill in your medical info on the iPad. Very easy. They were great to see me as a new patient, last minute, when I had an infection in my wisdom tooth. There was a snafu originally in that I tried contacting them on a Saturday as their website said they were open, but they really weren't. But they called me first thing Monday morning, and fit me in immediately. The main problem with the practice is they seem very quick to sell you expensive procedures. In dentistry, you can always find more things that could make your smile better and healthier, but there seems to be a real push here. When filling out the iPad with my medical/contact info, I was put off by a question that asked what I didn't like about my smile....and whatever you put, I think you can expect an expensive sales pitch. Other reviewers have also noted it, but I left there with an expensive to do list. Other thing that I didn't like here was my teeth cleaning. I needed one badly, but because I came in for a small infection, the cleaning kind of took a back seat. The dentist said it was okay to do a cleaning since I had asked, but I should really have a deep cleaning in the near future. I agreed with their diagnosis, however they proceeded to a really poor "quick" cleaning that left me looking a little funny. Large portions of my teeth were nice and polished, but the edges by the gums were a bit yellow and untouched. They said they would get those in a couple weeks with the deeper cleaning. But in the mean time, I felt self conscious with slightly two toned teeth. I didn't realize how bad it was until I left the office and it was exacerbated when I had too wait to see a dentist until after my wisdom teeth surgeries at a different practice had healed. This isn't a one off either. The same exact thing happened last week to my girlfriend. She is a regular here, but has mixed feeling since her poor cleaning. They did give me a referral to an exceptional oral surgeon; Park Slope oral Surgery. read more

Dr Tracz was dishonest and over exaggerated the # of cavities in my mouth as well as their severity. She drilled into my healthy teeth and charged me thousands for unnecessary dental work. Read the full story below. MY STORY: I had never had a cavity in my life until I went to see Dr Tracz. She took X-rays and told me I had 10 cavities, 5 on each side, that urgently needed to be filled. I had 5 filled on the right and then went for a second opinion. I brought the X-rays from Dr Tracz to another dentist (different office) who told me I had 4 minor cavities maximum in my whole mouth (vs 10) and that no dentist should have ever filled the 3/5 on the right (only 2 on the right were slightly problematic). The new dentist took X-rays as well and found that Dr Tracz incorrectly placed a filling which had been causing me a lot of pain. I even went back to Dr Tracz 2x to help fix the pain problem and she said the only thing she could do was replace the filling for extra $500 roughly. I wouldn't recommend that any patient ever seek dental care from this office. They are in the business of taking your money for bad and dishonest care. read more

So got a bill for $33.10 , no explanation on the bill. Okay, called to get an explanation, no one called back. Called again, got someone at the front desk. -Today: 09/08/2016 -Took X-rays on: 12/10/ 2015 -Just got a bill for the "balance" on the X rays that the doctor did. Never had a procedure done. Explanation that I got ... "...OUR SYSTEM IS A LITTLE SLOW in sending out bills, we are trying to collect the difference that your insurance didn't cover" Dishonest practice - YES Insurance covered in FULL - YES Why this didn't come up 10 months ago - Silence Why would I want to come back? read more

Christiana was fantastic and through with her cleaning and Dr Tomizawa was conservative with her approach and was very personable. I've been a patient at Dentistry at the Heights for 18 years and the level of care I've received still to this very day, is like none other. I used to be scared more for the fact of the previous treatment I sustained but my experience here is wonderful. Dr. Kevin Trotter is amazing, he's such a perfectionist and my mouth/teeth are proof of that, he takes his time and makes sure no stone is left unturned when determining the best treatment necessary and I thank him for that. His staff are warm, professional, funny and care very much about every patient that walks in, it makes my visit that much sweeter with a smile. I highly recommend him and his team. read more

I have been going to this office for five years and I wish I had left earlier. The quality of work is terrible and I recently learned that when they receive payments from insurance companies, they keep that money on file as a credit on your account instead of refunding the money to the patient. I have been trying to get my money returned to me and I am still waiting. In addition, the quality of care has not been great. I have had issues with teeth they have worked on. I will say, their hygienist Christiana is amazing. But I would not recommend the office because they may be keeping money. I am filing a complaint with the AGs office. read more

A-ok, so far. We pay up front with a credit card savings account that we set up to specifically pay for the care. The appointments start on-time and the office is never crowded or overbooked. The office staff is always pleasant and accommodating. Dr. Trotter did not do my filing, but the woman who did was wonderful. I have a cracked molar and need a crown, Dr Trotter and his office have created a treatment plan spelling out what is needed and how much each treatment will cost with contingencies. He says I grind my teeth and that it is a problem easily combated with a dental guard. we'll see. Waiting to see if insurance will reimburse me, but not holding my breath. read more

He is very professional, straightforward, patient and reassuring (for those of you who might dread going to the dentist!). I've been going to Dr. Trotter's practice for several years now. This past 8 months I went through an incredible amount of work to correct some gaps between teeth (due to periodontal work). The end result came this past Monday and I'm pretty ecstatic. My new teeth look and feel like my own. I can't pretend to love going to the dentist but if I'm going to go I'm going to go to Dr. Trotter. He's professional, cost-conscious and caring, as is his entire staff. It's really important to me to feel comfortable with the people who work in the medical offices I visit. And the Dentistry at the Heights staff certainly do. Highly recommended. read more
