My wife has been seeing Dr. Lieberman for over 10 years. When I moved to Brooklyn from Oakland, I started seeing Dr. Lieberman. He's more personable and more competent than my California dentists. I've had 5 years of cleanings, X-rays, exams, and about 3 cavities and fillings taken care of here. My guardian dental insurance is accepted here and it offers good coverage. I appreciate the Sunday appointments, the communicative text scheduling updates, the flexibility during dental emergencies, and the Brooklyn banter. Do I get called out when I haven't been flossing? We were passing through NY and needed to have a check-up and a cleanup. From the minute I contacted them via email, to the minute we finished our appointment, it was simply pure efficient awesome professional work. Via email we dealt with the admin that checked if our insurance was going to be accepted, and the online form submission process, all super fast, smooth, diligent. In person we dealt with the upbeat and positive receptionist, the XR tech, the dental hygienist Shira, and Dr. Lieberman himself. We got back to back appointments the week after we reached out, got there at 11:40 am on a Thursday and left at around 1 pm. We didn't have to wait much, everything was very well coordinated. The cleanup with Shira was great and onto the goal, she gave sound advice, and accommodated for some extra sensitivity I had. The doctor was thorough on his check-up and back himself up with plenty of XRs. The only thing I would think can make this practice even better is an update/upgrade of the XR equipment. As far as we have experienced with our all-time dentist office back at our hometown, there are far more modern equipment to for X-rays, less cumbersome for both the technician and the patient and get accurate results faster. The location is very convenient, as there is plenty of public transportation option that drop you off a block away. It was a great experience, everyone was professional, courteous, on time. Had an excellent experience with Dr Lieberman. Needed to fix the filling that fell off: they could set me an appointment as a new patient the very next morning (another place I tried could only offer one in 8 days). I was paying out of pocket and therefore was concerned about the final amount I would have to pay: they were very straightforward with the quote before I made an appointment, and I paid exactly that amount, not a penny more. I really appreciate that. The whole procedure took about 20-25 minutes, the doctor was attentive, polite and professional, was explaining what he was doing when he was doing it. Suggested I should consider cleaning but was not pushy about it, as some doctors I had before (who try to scare you into doing more procedures and spending more money). Overall, very glad with the experience. Hopefully the new filling will hold at least as long as the old one did. So far, I would definitely consider returning to Dr Lieberman if I ever have a dental issue in the future. read more

Dr. Lieberman was recommended by a number of women in my exercise class. He was on in the PSC's insurance plan group, and thus the price he gave me for the work to be done was reasonable when compared with another dentist I consulted. He saw me exactly when my appointment was scheduled, no long wait. He informed me what he could do for me and, more importantly, what he would/could not do. Absolutely fantastic dentist! He actually gets angry if you wait too long in the waiting room which is why most magazines in the waiting room are left untouched by time. I've had a general cleaning and a root canal with Dr. Lieberman. He's both extremely professional and personable. His team works with your schedule to make appointments work and the in office experience is very pleasant. I've had a root canal with another dentist before and it was entirely miserable. Granted the experience is not a pleasurable one, Dr. Lieberman works with an off-site specialist and between the two of them, they made the process as comfortable as possible. Plus I love my crown. Dr. Lieberman made sure it fit perfect and the coloring is exactly the same as the rest of my mouth. Go see Dr. Lieberman. He'll take care of you! read more

BEST DENTIST EVAR!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me prefice this by saying that I HATE GOING TO THE DENTIST. HATE. I'd rather have my cooter excavated for hours at the OB/GYN than go have my teeth drilled. Dr. Lieberman is amazing. He can drill and fill a cavity in under half an hour, and he lets you listen to your Ipod during the whole process. His wife, who works as the receptionist/ biller is a sweetheart. I don't care that they don't have the most 'modern' practice. This practice is mom and pop at it's best. I fell at work and wound up cracking my tooth, and he fixed it without charging me for a crown. I love the fact that he understands that I work for a non-profit and can't afford extensive dental work. I cannot recommend Dr. Lieberman highly enough. My husband and 2 boys have been going to Dr. Lieberman for over four years. I can't say enough good things about him! He is such a lovely man and talented dentist! My family and I feel so lucky to have found him and to be able to rely on his care! This week, my 16 year old began to complain about a tooth ache. We called the office, and Meryl, Dr. Lieberman's lovely wife who manages the office treated the situation very personally and seriously, getting our son an appointment that very next Sunday. She took great pains to fit us in on a very busy day for them! We knew that she went the extra mile, because she truly cares about our son and his well being and we appreciate it! We have searched years for good doctors with little satisfaction and are very fortunate to have finally found such a uniquely caring, exceptionally skilled dentist that we can trust for as long as he practices! I've been going to Dr Matthew Lieberman for a number of years. I appreciate that I never have to wait. Cleanings are quick and painless, despite build up I get on my lower front teeth. Last year I began having pain in an upper molar. There was an old large filling & he suspected a crack. He sent me to Endodontic Associates on Montague. The tooth couldn't be saved. I'm posting this letter to Dr. Lieberman today. I think it speaks for itself. Save yourself the hassle and stress of going to this dentist. Summary: He does shoddy work, can be verbally abusive, and discusses other patients in an inappropriate manner. I feel foolish for staying as long as I did and suspect that my next dentist will have a lot of work to do. Dr. Lieberman: I left your practice in February after 5+ years. I am writing this letter to inform you of why I made this decision. Generally, I found your demeanor towards me to be at times friendly but more often extremely demanding, and sometimes abusive. You berated me on multiple occasions: * I missed an appointment due to the death of my mother. At the make-up appointment, you repeatedly criticized me for not calling, even after I told you what had happened. You offered condolences in passing then returned to your anger at my missing the appointment. I was unimpressed by this response, which at least lacked compassion and arguably bordered on sociopathy. * On another occasion, after my partner missed his appointment, you berated me for the length of my cleaning. I sat in your chair, mouth wide open and feeling helpless, as you complained about actions that were not under my control. This was entirely inappropriate, and I should have left your practice immediately afterwards. Live and learn. You should also refresh your knowledge of regulations about discussing other patients. A complaint could have easily been filed about this incident. * Finally, at our last appointment, your office contacted me 3-4 times on the day of the appointment to ask me to come in earlier, for your convenience. I did not want to reschedule and so I ignored those calls; I knew there would be an argument if I picked them up. As soon as I stepped into your office on this occasion, you got in my face, and were visibly annoyed when I told you that beyond confirming and keeping my scheduled appointment I have no obligation to be in touch with you or your office. As an aside, your new appointment reminder system is absurd and paternalistic. I received around 10 reminders--not an exaggeration--in the runup to our last appointment. Again: absurd. For you to ask me to reschedule the same day, after all of that, is the height of gall. For you to be angry that I did not do so is appalling. My second reason for leaving your practice is your unresponsiveness. I have complained at the last three appointments about pain in one of my teeth. As you rushed to do your cleaning, you glanced at this tooth and said everything was fine. I'm scheduled to see another dentist and suspect they will diagnose a cavity. More seriously, since I left your practice, I have spoken to another friend whom I referred to you and whose complaints you also ignored. When he went to another dentist because of the lack of progress with his problem, they immediately performed a root canal. Eventually, his complaint was resolved, but he nearly lost a tooth. I was dismayed and feel guilty for having some responsibility for his experience. You in general move too fast during cleanings and perform a cursory job, no doubt because you overbook every day. I admire your business sense but it's evident that your dentistry suffers because of it. I think you have good qualities--devotion to your family and a pleasant personality, at least when you are getting your way. I hope you improve due to this letter, as your practice has serious customer service and clinical issues. Finally, I have no wish to discuss this letter with you, as I've written everything I think you need to hear. In conclusion: Do better. Your patients deserve it. read more

Dr. Lieberman is the best dentist I have ever been to. Period. Professional, friendly, decent guy- very knowledgeable, detail oriented and patient with people like me who have serious dental anxiety. His wife runs the front desk and there was only one other assistant in the room for my emergency filling, which he worked on with the greatest of care. The whole experience felt very personalized, which is such a refreshing change from the cattle-call feel of more "modern" dentist offices I have been to. They are also very decently priced for the services offered and have Sunday hours- this is a man who deeply cares about your well being. Pros: Really nice guy, extremely talkative, clearly enjoys his job. Responsive to telephone messages. Does his own cleanings. Cons: The office is in an old brownstone that has never been renovated (i.e., not exactly a sterile environment). The equipment (chairs, x-ray machines, water pumps, etc.) look to be legitimately 40 years old. Would be great for shooting a dentist movie scene set in the '70s, but not so great for generating patient trust. The crown I had done to cap a root canal (he sends people to an outside specialist for root canals) was subpar in color, shape and position. The crown on the same tooth on the opposite side (done by a different dentist 3 years earlier) looks/feels much better. The cost was high, even by NYC standards. Bottom line: I moved on, in search of a dentist who is more committed to modern technology and to precision work. I feel bad writing this, as Dr. Lieberman is such a friendly guy. I agree with the other reviews here - Dr. Lieberman is punctual, does cleanings himself rather than supervising an army of dental hygienists, doesn't push costly interventions, and is knowledgeable. He doesn't treat children, only teenagers and up. But he was willing to treat my 10 year old because she's not difficult, and she doesn't have dental issues that would require a pediatric dentist. read more
