Overall I have had great experience with Park Slope Dental Aesthetics with both locations. Clean and professional clinic overall and very well managed! Environment is very comfortable Dr. Steinbach was the first doctor when I was visiting right after covid ended because I had a root canal during covid that needed a crown. He was very honest with me and told me I would need an implant. It was a very dramatic news for me but they were wonderful. I was referred out to the close by ortho dentist and the came back to get my crown. The entire experience was straight forward and easy. They never tried to upsell me anything. My only issue with this location is the Dental Cleaning. After finishing up the issues with my teeth, I had a dental cleaning and it was extremely painful. I thought it was just normal when I started visiting the Court Side location since it was more convenient for me, Dr. Karpova did my cleaning was literally pain free. I assumed it was cause maybe previously I had dirty teeth This month I did cleaning at this location again since it was convenient and since I been keeping up with all my cleanings it wouldnt be too bad. No, it was very rough and felt rushed. I did not feel comfortable at all. I might try court street again for cleaning, but if its still painful I think I will switching for cleaning. However for other procedures where the actual dentist is working on it, I would absolutely recommend this place. read more

The office reached out to me to address my concerns, so I appreciate their proactivity. I'm amending my review to reflect that they do make an effort to understand your concerns, but even my experience trying to get this resolved has been bizarre. I've since received an insurance claim statement for my procedure, and the number my insurance tells me I owe less than what I was charged. The office also got the coverage % wrong (prior to the procedure they said I had a higher percentage coverage than I actually did - and yet, they still charged me more). They also mailed a check to me but sent it to the wrong address. (Street address, apartment number, all wrong. Receptionist said, "we thought you lived nearby." So you fired off a check to just... nearby??) At this point I am really baffled by how this office submits claims, prepares cost estimates, and calculates co-payments. The cost estimate ended up being wrong, and then amount charged ended up being wrong. None of the numbers make sense to me and I've been there several times to try to understand, and I don't get the sense that they know how to troubleshoot this problem. My experience with the dentist and hygienist were perfectly fine. But they are failing on the basics. They need to get their billing and quoting together. Have a way to create an invoice. Have those numbers match what you bill insurance. Get your patients' addresses right. read more

I will start off by saying that I am terrified of the dentist and have been to so many different ones that I am definitely traumatized. I've also had a lot of work done previously so I hate to be judged by a new dentist/hygienist every time. At the beginning of this year I was looking for a new dentist to finally just get over my fear and make sure I'm all good. I ended up choosing to visit Dr. Steinbach after checking out the different yelp reviews on him and his office. I called and made an appointment and made sure to emphasize that I was nervous. When I walked in the first time, Lisa who works at the front desk was really nice and always helpful. The hygienist and Dr. Steinbach both knew how I felt about the dentist and did their best to make me feel 100% comfortable and they succeeded! Everyone in the office is so welcoming and they make the entire dentist appointment comfortable. I've been to the office about 3 times now and never had to wait to be seen. I have had some root canals done through my previous dentists and Dr. Steinbach recommended that I see an endodontist as they have more of a preventative measure approach so therefore, the endodontist who specializes in root canals can figure out if I need to re-do them or if they're all good. The office is also very modern and the chairs are so comfortable! I can't stress how comfortable I've felt at the office and I don't dread going to the dentist anymore. Highly highly recommend, especially if you have a fear of the dentist. read more

I usually go to their place in Park Slope, but I had to reschedule my cleaning. I called and they told me there were no more cleaning appointments available in 2021 (in October!) but that they could squeeze me in on a Tuesday morning in the other location on Court Street. I was kind of confused by that because whenever I see the kind receptionist in Park Slope, she always manages to fit me in. I wish I had realized they outsource their calls to a random call center so don't really have all the info (as someone commented below.) I turned up to the new location and the receptionist there told me my cleaning would be $160 out of pocket. I told her this is my annual cleaning which my insurance covers so could she double-check. She said that's what it costs, because they charge so much for cleanings here or something? And that my (very good) insurance will only contribute $120? So they're out here charging more than $300 for a cleaning. Weird. I wish the person who had scheduled this cleaning with me had told me that - I've been them for 2 years now - but whatever, I've traveled here so I just pay up. The (very nice) receptionist apologized and said someone should have told me that in advance. The cleaning was... bizarre. At the other location, they are extremely thorough and caring. They have monitors to show you your teeth, they talk you through everything etc. Here, a girl came in who seemed maybe to be eastern European and couldn't speak English very well. No problem with me that people are learning English, but communication was very hard. For instance, she said, "We will take X-rays now." I said, "I actually had a full set of X-rays done a couple weeks ago both with you and my orthodontist, and so let's leave it because I've been exposed to a lot of radiation recently. You also have those X-rays from the other office on file, I think." She just looked at me, and then started doing the X-rays as if I'd said nothing. The cleaning lasted 15 minutes and was the most painful cleaning of my life. I had numerous deep fillings this year that hurt way less. Twice, she accidentally got her implement stuck in between my teeth, and had to hold my head going, "Don't move don't move don't move" while trying to fish it out. I was extremely on-edge the entire time and at one point she did something to my back tooth that hurt so much I actually screamed - and I'm a quiet person! By the end, I honestly felt like I was going to cry. It was made harder by the fact that we just really couldn't communicate with each other at all so I didn't understand what was going on or why she wasn't able to use her tools properly. The dentist then came in, looked at my X-rays and said everything looked fine, and that was it. I left feeling really rattled and also $160 poorer. I love Dr Thomas and the crew at the Park Slope location, but honestly have no idea what is going on at Court Street and the whole thing left me weirded out. read more

Let's get something clear... I never submit Yelp reviews. However, my dental experience today changes everything. For the first time in my life, I look forward to seeing the dentist. In the last 10 years, I've only been to the dentist a few times... which is pretty terrible. That said, I had some shady experiences, including one dentist telling me I had 7 cavities, another dentist telling me I had periodontal disease that required gum scraping, and another dentist telling me I needed to get my wisdoms yanked. These scenarios would all seemingly add up for someone who's only had a handful of cleanings since the tail-end of the Bush administration... After months of contemplation, I decided to take a chance on Eric and Park Slope Dental Aesthetics earlier today, and I am so thankful that I did. Everyone there was super casual, super professional, and most importantly to me -- super funny. The receptionist was able to find my information even though I didn't have my insurance card on me, Steven got me situated with my favorite choice of Netflix distractions (The Office) to watch on their TV while he knocked out my x-rays, and Eric was super personable and thoroughly assessed my situation... no cavities except for a minor one that didn't require immediate attention, wisdoms that weren't worth the trouble of removing, and a gum line that looked "perfectly fine" according to their x-rays. I've amassed some unfortunate staining and plaque build-up over the past few years since my last dental visit, and Eric was a total pro -- communicative with a steady hand. Although I have a very forward personality, I've been self-conscious about smiling for some time, and he gave me a cleaning and overall experience that has changed my jaded perception of quality dentists in New York City. I'm happy to say that I am PROUD to smile again, and genuinely look forward to visiting his practice in another six months. read more

Without a doubt the best Dentist I've encountered. The entire staff is bright and fun to be around. They've evolved the gloomy atmosphere of the dreaded Dentists office and created a place that, aside from my frequent root canals, is easy going and comfortable. Dr. Steinbach has also taken the simple things to a new level. Ive had dozens of cavities filled but hes gentle and the end product leaves me wondering where the thing was in the first place. As if that wasn't enough they even offer some late weekday appointments (making dentist AFTER work an option when available) and some weekend hours that are beyond rare. I did my due diligence before finally deciding to get Invisalign in 2020. I chose Dr. Steinbach and couldn't be more thrilled with the results. He has a great chairside manner, as well as a lovely staff. As my two bottom teeth needed a slight but precise adjustment prior to fitting, I'm so glad I didn't select an online retail outfit. I recently went here for my dental cleaning and exam and had a great experience! The office is very modern and clean. The staff is very friendly and efficient. They had me checked in and had my paperwork done within a few minutes of arriving. The dental hygienist who worked with me was also great! Not only did she do an amazing job of cleaning my teeth, but she was very attentive to how I was doing during the cleaning. If I needed to take a break or reposition, she was more than happy to let me do so. And I could not have been happier with Dr. Steinbach! He was very knowledgeable, showed me my X-rays, and gave me some options about my care while also giving his recommendation, which I will follow. I'm so thrilled to have found Dr. Steinbach after many years of questionable dentists. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those people who was blessed with perfect, indestructible enamel, so I've had to spend more time with dentists than I'd really care to. Basically, I've had lots of cavities. And lots of cleanings. Here are just a few examples of my not-so-great previous dentists: -One dentist did such a rough cleaning that I woke up with a sore jaw the next day. -Another dentist spilled some chemical he was using for my filling ON MY FACE and didn't notice right away. It ended up leaving a burn. -My last dentist didn't give me enough anesthetic during a filling so I felt everything. The initial shot was so painful and I couldn't bear going through it again so I just toughed it out. *shudder* The list goes on. So of course I was skeptical about Dr. Steinbach as well, but so far every procedure has been so easy and painless. I've had 1 cleaning and 2 fillings appts. At the cleaning I asked for a non-mint toothpaste (I'm one of the .0002% of people that hates mint), but unfortunately mint was the only option. Past dentists would have been like 'well, tough cookie!' and piled in the vom-tastic mint paste, but not Dr. Steinbach! He was really thoughtful about using just a little bit so I barely tasted it. At my next visit I had a couple fillings done. I was dreading it, of course, especially knowing I had to get another painful Novocain shot. But no! To my utter delight and surprise, he said no anesthetic would be necessary. And that I wouldn't feel any pain. Music to my ears! And sure enough, he was right. AND I was in and out after only 15 min. The last visit I had was for another filling. But this time I was feeling good, expecting another easy visit like last time. However, I was soon informed that I would need anesthetic this time because this cavity was a bit deeper. Anxiety and nerves came rushing back. I told Dr. Steinbach that I'm a baby when it comes to this and he reassured me that it'd be fine. Amazingly, for the first time ever, I didn't feel any pain from the shot! Not even the initial prick. Impressive! The rest of the filling was quick and uneventful. They turned on Netflix for me so I got to watch Friends during the whole thing which also helped calm the nerves. On top of that, Dr. Steinbach and his assistant are just really nice, friendly, laid back guys. Highly recommended! read more

Does your dentist have sleeve tattoos and listen to the Washed Out late 2000's indie-electronica station? Mine does. As far as the actual dentistry goes, Dr. Steinbach is a great dentist. I've been about three or four times, and I have had a couple cavities filled. They were all relatively pain-free, I never had to go back for an adjustment, and they were able to polish away my coffee addition from sight. Had some bad work done at another dentist and woke up in terrible pain. I immediately called Leigh to see if she could fit me in. I was in the chair and completely at ease within the hour. This place is amazing. I am terrified of the dentist and thought I was never going to get over that fear. I've been going here for just over a year now and am more comfortable with every visit. His technique is extraordinary -- I've had him put in an anesthesia needle without my feeling it, and his exams are painless. As someone with severe dental anxiety, I can't say enough good things about Dr. Steinbach and his team. The office is impeccable, super clean, light and modern. Leigh holds down the front of office and even puts up with my (usual) tardiness. I have seen him for a variety of dental issues, from simple cleanings to a new crown, and each visit has been great.
