The clinic has two dentists, four hygienists, and a couple front desk staff. The office is located in an office park building in Maple Grove. The waiting room is so welcoming. It's tastefully decorated for kids. Cartoons on the TV, free Pac-Man arcade game, lots of books, and magazine for the adults. The front desk staff was very nice and helpful. The exam space is great, too. It's an open-air concept with benches and art for privacy rather than walls or exam rooms. My favorite part of our visit was the staff. As someone who despises trips to the dentist myself, I have put off my son's first visit for years. At 4.5, I worried that he would be scared and non-compliant. But our hygienist made him feel very comfortable. I appreciated that she showed him the chair and let him try each of the tools before using them. The cleaning was very gentle. She took breaks as often as he asked. After he picked out a prize and got a sticker for being cavity-free, we saw the dentist (Dr. Borodkin). She reviewed his chart and took the time to review his X-rays in detail. I was worried that she would scold me for waiting so long to bring him in. Not at all! She was informative and supportive, not judgmental. We left with a 'swag' bag - toothbrush, paste, a water bottle, a really nifty flosser, and a save the date for our next appointment. As an adult with dentist anxiety, I had MUCH delayed taking my kids and both had cavities... what I had dreaded (and expected). However, the way the staff and Dr. Venetia helped make them feel comfortable and calm (and informed about what's happening every step of the way) was nothing short of miraculous. No tears. No pain. No fear... for the kids or for me! :) I'm SO impressed with their approach, kindness and knowledge about kids and their teeth. Thank GOODNESS I found this clinic.

But Dr. Cory managed to put me enough at ease to go ahead with the procedure *sans Valium* on the spur of the moment. NGL, it was not my favorite way to spend a morning, but he and his staff were so caring and patient, they made the experience easier than I ever would have imagined. So I am going to stick with this Dentist office, even though scheduling time for cleanings is nearly impossible if you miss an appointment. The ability to put me at ease during a procedure is a rare quality, and worth any inconveniences I might have going forward.

Waited about a half an hour before they called my name. I was very nervous and warned them I'm very sensitive to pain, with zero pain tolerance due to fibromyalgia. I don't remember any acknowledgement of that. I don't do well with anesthesia, so I chose just to have the novocaine. The assistant quickly swabbed the area once, and without waiting, the dentist moved right in with three numbing shots, including the roof of my mouth which was the worst pain. There was hardly time to numb it; he didn't wait long enough for it to take effect. It was excruciating pain, pure torture, and I cried. It finally numbed up enough for the tooth extraction. I still have nightmares remembering that pain. No excuse for not letting the area get sufficiently numb; it was terribly traumatic, which threw my fibromyalgia into a flair for a couple of weeks feeling sick and fatigued. My sinuses were affected and still sore, including a headache. The procedure took only minutes, and I got a big bill that my dental insurance doesn't cover. Very unhappy and angry about the horrible experience. I didn't feel the place was very friendly; had bad vibes. They didn't do much to make me feel comfortable. I felt like just another patient. In and out.

I switched to them over a year ago from the dental clinic my family had been going to for 30 years, and had been recommending that my family do the same because I loved the convenience, competence and friendliness at Almond. In May, almost two months ago, I went in for a quick exam to evaluate a sharp pain in one spot on one tooth. I saw Dr. Lam and she tapped around that tooth but couldn't find the spot that was causing my pain. The pain had only been there for around two weeks, which she said wasn't long enough to investigate further. She suggested it was from clenching my teeth at night and recommended a night guard. I have had brief episodes of clenching in the past and it results in a totally different dull jaw ache so I said I really did not think that was the issue. I also already have a night guard. I then proceeded to leave town for almost two months and decided to just avoid hitting that tooth until I could come back and have it checked out again. I had told them I might go to another clinic while I was out of town but ultimately decided to wait because I overall trusted Almond and wanted continuity. Last week, I scheduled an appointment for this afternoon. This morning, I got a call informing me that my appointment was being canceled because Dr. Lam didn't want to see me and none of the other dentists wanted to take over. All because I disagreed with her initial conclusion after a 10 minute exam, based on knowing what normal and abnormal pain is like in the teeth I've had for 25+ years. I am still in disbelief that this is how Almond operates.

Luckily, they were able to fit me in their schedule a full 5 additional months down the road....but they're very sorry. Oh, Dear Lawd, so sorry. I could be added to a cancellation schedule but I'd have to be open to getting short notice of an opening and be required to scramble back home from work in order to accommodate them. No thank you, I'll just wait the 3-6 months a new patient typically has to wait to be seen at a new dentist.

We noticed a transition from identifying necessary care to recommending premature care for conditions (small cavities, wisdom teeth). Because the location was convenient we stayed for quite a while after Dr. Lira began. It was in Summer 2024 however that we decided we needed to end our care with this office. Dr. Lira heard us say that our son was applying to a military academy and immediately ordered extra imaging and "told us" his wisdom teeth had to be removed (her statement - the military wouldn't accept him with them). We told her he had already been cleared by military for medical and for dental even with his wisdom teeth. Dr. Lira again stated her view and immediately jumped to stating we needed to proceed with scheduling removal with an oral dr. We were so off put by this final treatment of our child as just another number and not an individual, and not listening to the patient and guardian, that we saw another dentist. Recently, we asked for his x-rays, progress notes and periodontal records (which we understand by law must be maintained by dentist and are also the patient's property). After two phone calls with Albertville Dental and also a number with the new dentist to see if info had been forwarded, we thought we had finally had our release of information acknowledged. Today, when I was in the new dentist's office, they showed me two VERY fuzzy images sent by Albertville Dental and explained no other records were sent. The lack of professionalism and not remembering the patient owns this information is despicable. I wouldn't recommend them because of the poor care and God forbid you ever move or need to transfer info for other reasons. Look further if you need a dentist. I have heard really great things about NW Family Dental but we chose to return to our dentist in St. Louis Park.
