Dentists of Gainesville is what you get when you cross high-tech loving retail store front dentistry with the personality of a used car salesman. It's a shame, really, because most of the people there are very pleasant and seemingly good at what they do. (I'm ignoring the Periodontist who spoke to me in a patronizing way as if I was a six-year-old. I swear, I thought he was going to offer me a lollipop for being a good boy at the dentist.) Special shout out to Hygienist Jennifer whose professionalism and sincerity transcend the negative elements of this office (I'm looking at you, snarky Office Manager). However, this office is a machine, and their efforts at efficiency leave patients feeling like they're on a conveyor belt moving from provider to provider, all headed toward the cash register. Forget thinking you'll see the dentist you booked with; you'll get whoever is lined up on the assembly line. And don't count on the Dentist Du Jour taking time to read through past notes before treating you. My last encounter here involved the Dentist not bothering to recognize that I have galvanic toxicity (look it up). The first thing she did was poke an implant with a metal instrument, causing lightning to course through the side of my skull and leaving me in pain for the next twelve hours. (It was in the notes from the last visit, doc. Read the patient chart!) I really wanted to make this dental practice work because they have later hours so I can schedule after work. But at some point during every appointment there has been "the sales pitch." Some administrative person takes over the appointment and pulls up a list of expected out-of-pocket charges on a computer screen in front of you while sitting in the exam chair. The Dentist hasn't bothered to talk about recommended procedures, benefits, risks, or any of the other things you'd expect from a medical provider. And when I asked about some of the items on the list (adding up to hundreds of dollars beyond what insurance covers), I was simply told, "Well, she went to Dental School so we just need to trust her recommendation." I fell for this hard sale tactic during my first visit because the doc said it was necessary. Sadly, the doc didn't tell me that there were other options available. And, in subsequent visits, the doc didn't even identify what caused her to make that initial recommendation. Miracle cure? Instead, she added other expensive items to the tally. The Periodontist was even worse, recommending a high-tech procedure that would have cost thousands of dollars out of pocket without even mentioning that there was a low-tech option completely covered by my insurance. And when I tried to check out, the front desk attempted to book a "3-month follow-up" without mentioning that the entire appointment would have been out-of-pocket. I asked the "billing specialist" about this money-grubbing approach to dentistry, and she cheerfully replied, "That's just the way we do things here." The real kicker was when I decided I'd had enough of these mercenary tactics and said that I would not be back. I was told that their system would automatically schedule me for another appointment 6 months + 1 day after my last visit. (Really? I don't get to choose the date or time?) They said I'd get an email reminder, and then I'd have to call the office to cancel the appointment or I would get billed for a no-show. So if you're looking for a dental practice that uses lots of cutting-edge tech, and if you don't mind being on an assembly line, and if you're able to hold your ground and not be swayed by their sales approach, then you might be happy here. For me, there are lots of other great options in the area that offer a more personalized experience with Dentists who get to know you and care about you, and who don't go reaching for your wallet every time you stop by for your biannual cleaning. read more

I've visited this office three times, and each time got worse until they broke this camel's back. At the first visit, of course, we were just getting to know each other. I was quite surprised, though, not to receive any encouraging word when they discovered that, at age 65, I still had no cavities. Instead there was a lot to say about all the procedures they should do and how I'd need to start coming in for quarterly visits, rather than sticking to the bi-annual visits covered by insurance. On a singular positive note: This was the first time a dentist told me, definitively, that I am grinding my teeth and causing damage to enamel and gums. (Past dentists would ask me if I grind. I'm asleep, I don't know.) At the second visit, I was prepared for the negative experience and determined up front that they would not shame me into fluoride treatments, periodontal rejuvenation, etc. When I told Nabila that I couldn't afford to go down the road with all their suggestions, I received pity for supposedly being too poor. I said "no" to all the extras and left with just the exam, xrays, and cleaning, as planned, but miffed that she would talk to me that way. The straw: First off, the shocking blow that I have my first cavities. (Did you know a medication can cause dry mouth and ruin your saliva protection?) That's not their fault, of course, but the treatment plan! Nabila quoted around $1800 was "necessary," including "cerec inlays" for 3 cavities mounting to $1100. She even mentioned the word "crown" a couple of times. Crown? I thought "filling" is the appropriate treatment for a cavity--especially one that hasn't been there long and can't be very large. Additionally, Nabila had charged me nearly $250 for the cleaning (covered by my insurance) and proposed another $100 for cancer screening. Every prior dentist has done a cancer screening included with the exam, but because this office uses high-tech digital equipment... I left with their proposal and determined to seek a second opinion. Thankfully, insurance covers the consultation with another dentist--and thankfully the local dentist I chose (using the same high-tech digital equipment) offered to do a whole new set of xrays with the exam. I made an appointment the same day and received confirmation that I do, indeed, have cavities, but only TWO need to be treated--with composite fillings, not inlays; they are too small to require that much intervention. The third spot on the xray was too small for treatment. This dentist recommended waiting and watching to see if the small amount of damage can be reversed with fluoride and flossing. Bottom line: Addressing only the cavities (and saving the periodontal issues for another day), I'll be spending $80 for two composite fillings compared to $1100 for three cerec inlays at Dentists of Gainesville. DO NOT TRUST THEIR BILLING. INCOMPETENT AND UNETHICAL.I came to this office suffering from dizziness and nausea. While I was physically vulnerable, the front desk billing staff took complete advantage of me. I have dual insurance: my primary coverage through my employer (Walmart) and secondary coverage through my husband. I explicitly instructed them to coordinate benefits. They refused to do their job, lying to my face and claiming that standard Coordination of Benefits (COB) is "insurance fraud."Because of her absolute incompetence and refusal to file the claims properly, I was slapped with a fraudulent $3,000 bill out of pocket. I was sick patient so pay full price because your staff is too lazy or untrained to process secondary insurance is a direct violation of your in-network insurance contracts. It is also a massive ethical breach bordering on patient abandonment while I was in physical distress. I have already contacted the corporate fraud departments of both insurance providers regarding your refusal to file, and a formal complaint is being submitted to the State Dental Board.If you have dual insurance, stay far away from this place. They will exploit you when you are sick to cover up their own billing ignorance. read more

Chose this practice for a specialist who was a PP in my dental plan. The D of G does not function like any typical Dental Practice I have been to before as you make an appointment which is more of a concept than a reality. The practitioners are plentiful and business oriented. The Specialists are kind and skilled. The office management is rather chaotic which I found disconcerting for the care I required. The financial approach here is not traditional. They do not abide by usual dental insurance participation norms and instead charge patients for all "remaining fee." read more

I was surprised that the lack of bad reviews at this place. I had just about everything done that you could do at this place, including cleaning, wisdom, teeth removal, and crown work and had zero problems throughout any experience. Probably the nicest staff I've ever had the pleasure of receiving business from, very good scheduling times and flexibility, fast dental times, so I was not waiting very long and overall a good experience for such a not so good of an experience line of business. Dishonest office manager, incompetent staff, especially certain dentists there. The mobile endodontist they contract with was excellent and the dental techs seem to know their stuff. The hygienist is not very good and they push fluoride treatments that are like glue you can't get off your teeth. Avoid like the plague. I can't imagine how they stay in business. read more

I used to have PMO dental insurance and life was good. I changed my work and ended up with HMO and this place was the preferable dentist in the area. Keep in mind that I used to go every six months for routine clean-up as well as any other kept-up maintenance. The manager came in and recommended I get a deep cleaning for 700 dollars. This was the total cost after insurance paid out the other half. I asked if I could just get the regular cleanup done but she said it cannot be done. Interestingly enough, I quickly went into yelp while she went outside of the office to check up with the dentist and I happened to check the review and saw many similar posts about being dishonest so I left that office very quickly. TLTR: Dishonest and offers unnecessary services for new customers. Do not go here unless you want to get ripped off. read more

Unfortunately, my insurance changed, and we were on the hunt for new dentist. My daughter and I went here for the first dental cleaning, and it took three hours. In addition to that, they told me that I had a crack in one of my fillings. They quoted me some crazy high amount to fix it, and even tried to fix it the same day, before I could call my insurance and verify. I told them no. A few days later, they called me and told me that insurance was verified and it would only be around $230. I booked the appointment to have the filling fixed, and they also said that they would like to crown it. I agreed and went for the appointment. My appointment was at 10 AM. I did not walk out of the office until close to 2 pm. She removed my old filling which took a lot of time, and it was extremely uncomfortable. She put the new filling in and then crowned the tooth. I did the procedure upon her recommendation, however, my tooth before this procedure was never uncomfortable, and I never felt any pain. Once they finished, four hours later, the whole side of my right mouth was in pain, and the tooth was throbbing. It has now been almost 2 weeks, and I still cannot chew on my right side. As I was leaving the dentist, she said if I experience any pain, I would need a root canal. I now have a dentist appointment with somebody else to check out what damage she did. I am extremely good about my dental exams, and I have never had a dentist in the last year before this one tell me there was a crack in my filling. I think they unnecessarily took out my old filling, filled it, and crowned it unnecessarily. I have been in pain for two weeks, and now I may have to have a root canal to fix the tooth. Do not go to the dentist! They are just in it for the money. I wholeheartedly believe that they created this problem, and my old filling did not need to be replaced. read more

I don't understand why they advertise a $59.99 service that includes dental cleaning, exam, and X-rays. We did the X-rays and the exam-- spoke with the doctor who was great & did mention they'll get me ready for cleaning. Office manager/accountant comes in tells me how much for other services are (wisdom extraction, deep cleaning treatment) but I shut that down quick as I only needed a routine cleaning as they've advertised. I was rushed out without them doing the cleaning. Is this because I didn't agree or what? Time wasted with a money hungry establishment ‍ Re consider visiting if you think you're going there to get your teeth cleaned under their $59.99 service. When in for a filling had to go to a specialist to get the two fixed by getting a root canal then they turn around and put a crown to charge me for a crown after they're the ones that caused the tooth to be done that way by bad feeling read more

Awful experience. They finally started my appointment 20+ minutes late with barely an apology and then told me the apt would take 2 hrs! I had no idea it would take that long - I just needed a cleaning. No one set expectations when I made the apt. The staff couldn't care less and was rude. The patience chair was dirty in the exam room and the wall was all damaged - not a good look. I should have read the reviews before trying this place. Save yourself and find another dentist. I went in for two crowns and left with completely different looking teeth. When I went back to have them fixed the assistant laughed as she looked at them and said "I thought they looked a little short when we were putting them on". Then the dentist said "oh yes, they're short. What do you want me to do about it?" Asking me a question for an obvious answer, I'd like them fixed to look as they were when I originally came in. The dentist also ground my gums until they bled, saying it was because of a deep cavity. I'm pretty sure a well trained dentist knows how to avoid gums. I also left with a blood blister on my lips from the dental tools. Accountability would be nice. No acknowledgment as far as horrible work on their part. No compassion for their patients. Terrible service. I went after my full quarantine period for COVID for emergency dental pain. The receptionists tried to send me away, and I had to suggest that I take a home test from the grocery store within the same shopping center, which turned out to be negative, to be seen that day. I tried to schedule an appointment for an extraction for a split tooth, which was another emergency. This office scheduled me for an extraction the next day. Well, the next day came and the office called me in the morning to let me know that the appointment had been a mistake, and the oral surgeon was not available until... the next month. I could have spent my time trying to find another surgeon, as this was an emergency. I found this establishment to be unprofessional and a waste of my time. read more

Well, I initially gave 5 star review... UNTIL after my molar extraction I developed dry socket ( somewhat normal), and was in severe pain untouchable with motrin/ tylenol/ and advil round the clock. Went in for emergency visit. Dentist acknowledged my pain, and packed the socket, but said " we dont treat bone pain". Managed to have an excruciating remainder of the week with no sleep and severe pain until follow up visit, where dentist again acknowledged dry socket and severe pain, but again would not administer any pain medication. First let me start by saying I am not fond of dentist, period. It took me a long time to find a dentist I could trust without trying to bleed my insurance dry. I was referred by Maren, the RDH. Still somewhat hesitant about a dentist poking and prodding in mouth but I am was completely amazed. I got a tour of the facility by Dr. Jung, met the staff and went over my diagnosis/procedure. Followed by procedural costs with the Office Manager, Amanda. She was completely honest and forthright about everything. I could not be happier. I have found a dentist and staff I can trust. Dr. Nguyen was great. He was quick with the cleaning and pretty much painless. He seems to know teeth really well. He's has good assistants that know they're stuff. X- ray process could've been smoother but it was understandably tough to capture. I would recommend him. read more

I literally don't know where to start. I've seen all the dentists here, as well as the oral surgeon, and can say that everyone from reception at the front, to the management, a truly spectacular people who have gone above and beyond to take care of me, my wife, and my four year old son now for his first visits. I can't count the number of different offices I've visited in the past 36 years, but they are the best experience I've ever had, and I had to have everything from a root canal to a cleaning with them, and definitely have earned my loyalty. read more

I called for a first time visit. The receptionist put me on "hold", but really just set the phone down, and I heard her calling for "Amanda". And then I waited, while listening to the sort of random noise you hear when someone sets an open phone on a desk. And waited. "Hello, hello?" got no response. After five minutes, I disconnected, and called back. The same receptionist answered, "Oh, Amanda can take your information and make an appointment, but she's with a patient. Can I have your name and phone number, and she'll call you back, in 20 minutes?" Name & number shared, I hung up. No one ever called me back. Nice work. I'll go elsewhere. read more

I had a bad experience with scheduling for my wisdom tooth extraction, which is the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. To their defense, the anesthesiologist backed out last minute. But it definitely caused some issues. Their office, including the primary dentists, worked hard to arrange for this to still be done. They are polite and the office is nice. This dentist office is joke and money hungry. I visited for the first time in May 2019 after my previous dentist, Gainesville Dental Associates, whom I absolutely loved, no longer accepted my insurance. I had a regular exam and cleaning in May, including a series of x-rays. At that time Dr. Nguyen tried to sell me a crown for a tooth with a large filling in it stating eventually the filling would be no good and I would need a root canal and crown. Key work is eventually. He wanted to do preventative work at the rate of around $750.00. Mind you this tooth has given me no problem. Fast forward to November 2019, and I go in for a routine check up and cleaning. Well low and behold, they need to do more x-rays. What? In my 50 years of visiting a dentist I have never been told you need x-rays at every visit. At Dentists of Gainesville you do because they can see your teeth better than the regular exam (and they can bill your insurance company and get reimbursed). When I stated radiation wasn't good for a person the response was, "We use a different kind of radiation here and it isn't as harmful." I refused the x-rays. After the exam I was told by Dr. Al-Tekreeti that I needed a special cleaning where I will be numbed and my cleaning will clean in between my teeth. This was necessary because I had issues with my bones and they were weakening and I would lose my teeth because of this. What the heck? I have never heard of this in my life. I have received nothing but excellent comments on my teeth and dental hygiene in years past. I have never had any major problems, knock on wood, until coming to Dentists of Gainesville. When I refused the special cleaning, Dr. Al-Tekreeti stated that if she just did a regular cleaning but recommended the special cleaning then my insurance company would deny the claim and I would have to pay out of pocket for the cleaning. Again, what the heck is she thinking. I stated I was refusing the special cleaning. I asked Dr. Al-Tekreeti to write down her recommendation and the reasons for her recommendations. She refused to do that and had her staff dancing around trying to back track what she said. I felt bad for them because they sounded so ridiculous and made the practice look even worse. Anyway, Dentists of Gainesville lost four clients that day because no one in my family will go to them now. When I looked at the reviews thinking they are so different then mine I realized everyone who gave them a good review was there for an emergency. They were in pain and consoled. The dentists also made money off of them so everyone was happy. Me, I am glad I am not naïve enough to be taken advantage of. I hope you aren't either. I am a first time patient at this dental office. I had not been to at dentist in a very long time. As soon as I walked in the door I received a warm reception. The staff here is fantastic. They have the state of the art technology for a dental office from digital x-rays to 3D print impressions. My dentist was fantastic, everyone was top notch. If you are looking for a dental office that has fair pricing and the best customer service around this is your place. You don't have to look any further. They are great! read more
