Came in for a cleaning, but no one was available to clean my teeth for my appointment. I got x X-rayed and examined by an unknown male dentist after sitting for almost hour. After he recommended a bunched of expensive and unnecessary procedures he left the practice immediately afterward. informed by the staff that I would have to reschedule to come back to get my teeth cleaned. Do not go to this practice for your dental care. They run extremely behind on appointments and upsell you on expensive medical procedures. The front office staff are nice and helpful but I really regret going to this dental office. I went for a routine cleaning. I haven't been to the dentist in a few years due to a move and a pregnancy, so I knew I may need some fillings etc. before hand. I signed in and waited for my morning appointment and it was pretty normal. When I went into the exam room I noticed the walls were kind of dirty and the only thing in the room was a sign that said "same day crowns." My x rays were taken, which is normal but when it came time for the panorama the tech had to take a second image because she said she lifted her finger off of the button and didn't get it the first time. Mistakes happen, but I should have said something because I don't love to have 2 x rays of my head in a row, and that was definitely user error. I waited in the room for a normal amount of time for the doctor to come in. The first thing he said was you have long roots they're spindly. I found that annoying and unnecessary to comment on. He checked out my teeth, and he said they looked better than expected for what I had disclosed to him but that I'd need a couple of filings. He never once mentioned a need for a crown. The billing person was in the appointment, they said she is also a doctor? I'm not sure. There were 5 different people in with me while I was there. When he left she then said she would go make the plan for my teeth. I then waited for about 20 minutes. My appointment started at 9:30. It was now 10:45. The second doctor came in to let me know that if I had a certain score I would need a deep cleaning. I said that's fine and she did what she needed to do then informed me that I did in fact need a deep cleaning. Great. Then I am waiting in the chair thinking they are going to come in and begin the cleaning. I don't know anything about the dentist! The billing lady came back in the room and presented me with a care plan of $1480. I have a dhmo plan which basically only covers a cleaning, but I was so thrown by the potential cost. I told her I wasn't willing to take on that bill today without seeing a different dentist to confirm that the procedures were necessary, she offered that I could do care credit, I said no, that is okay, I was really only prepared to do a cleaning and I was not willing to take on the bill and also that if my insurance wasn't providing coverage I really wanted to get a second opinion. She responded by saying "well not a lot of places take your insurance and so it will cost the same no matter where you go." I told her I would rather still see, and if these were the recommendations and the bill was similar I would likely enroll in a different plan this October which is only a couple of months away. She responded and said "well most people have what you have and they just do the care credit." Sorry, no thank you. I said I would not be paying that today and she was like well you still need to pay the $5... as though the reason I wasn't coughing up $1500 is because I couldn't pay the $5, when in reality I am 100% sure I do not need a SAME DAY CROWN! Left very upset. A friend reccomended a different dentist and I immediately switched when I got home. There were only like 2 other patients there and I got an appointment very last minute so I should have known. Then I looked on yelp and felt very validated.... this was my first dental experience in Richmond and I'm so glad I know better now. Don't go here, there's a reason they have a ton of availability. Do not go here. There's a reason they have so much availability for new patients. I scheduled a routine cleaning, which turned into a 3-hour ordeal. The length of the appointment alone is enough to make me never return, but that was just the start of the issues. First, the office and treatment rooms were outdated, disorganized, and rundown. The technician also failed to follow basic hygiene protocols by not changing their gloves after handling various items like the computer, cabinets, and equipment before providing direct care. I had to ask them to change their gloves after experiencing an unpleasant taste unrelated to the cleaning itself. The staff appeared incredibly disorganized, even voicing their confusion in front of me. They didn't seem to know who had seen me or who was still scheduled for treatment. After sitting for nearly an hour, I had to ask what was next. When I raised a question about my care, I was dismissed with little explanation, only to be told that the complications I was experiencing were related to the very issue I had asked about--yet no solutions were offered. I too went in for a cleaning and was told I had a small cavity in the back that would be hard to fill so it needed a crown. I asked more about the filling and then the front desk guy came in and told me I was getting a crown. I said no I'm not and left. Haven't had any pain or trouble with my teeth since. read more

Went to Dentists on Grove after changing insurance. Waited for 30 minutes after my appointment time began before being brought back, which is not great for a mid-work day appointment. I saw five different practitioners and none of them introduced themselves, which was jarring. The first person I worked with took x-rays and was so abusive in language that I should've left right then. X-rays can be really uncomfortable/painful in the best of cases, but when someone says, "you're biting down really weird and I'm going to just keep blasting your face with radiation until you bite correctly," it felt a lot worse. At this point, I was in tears. Three different people later, a dentist (I guess? Again: no introduction) walked in and said I have a "huge cavity" that they needed to fill. I've never had a cavity before, so I was definitely taken aback. I told her I wasn't experiencing any pain or discomfort and asked her to explain what a filling would entail. She said "I have to check something," and left the room. The fifth and final person came in after that and said instead of a filling, I actually needed a crown and potentially a root canal. I was so freaked out, I practically ran out of there and called my former dentists office (insurance be damned) to get a second opinion. I will never go back. read more

This place is a complete scam. DO NOT GO HERE. They will try to tell you that you need multiple crowns (which after going to a NEW dentist, I did not need to get ANY crowns). They sent multiple people into my room to talk to me about the payment plan and I guess trying to bully you into making the appointments to get extra dental care that was not even needed. They have nothing on the alls except for weird posters about same day crowns, I could tell from the waiting room that something seemed off. I went in for a cleaning, and was there for over 2 hours. The crowns are a scam. Dentists on Groves is a scam artist. They're business model seems to be 'lie about needing crowns, rake in cash.' We went there and they told my wife she needed multiple crowns, for thousands of dollars. When we told them we needed time to get a second opinion, they urged us that we didn't have time - we'd absolutely need a root canal for another thousand dollars if we waited any longer. So, we got that second opinion anyways, and it turns out all my wife's teeth were healthy. Crowns would actually harm them by doing unnecessary drilling. Dentists on Grove is a scam artist and you should not give them any business. Also, another note - they regularly replace their staff - it's very creepy. read more

On my first visit for a cleaning and X-rays, I waited an hour to be seen and it was three hours after arriving before I saw the dentist. I had a very inexperienced tech do my cleaning and X-rays. I'm pretty sure she shouldn't have been allowed to work on actual people yet. The dentist told me I needed three crowns. I liked that they made crowns in house so I wouldn't have to make two visits, they quoted a reasonable price, and they were super apologetic about the wait, so I made an appointment for the crowns. My mistake! After waiting over an hour again, I knew I didn't have enough time left to get the work done. I debated rescheduling, but because of the long waits I decided to look up the Yelp reviews and realized I should have gotten a second opinion before ever making this appointment. I had paid in full so needed to get a refund. They brought me into an office and again apologized about the long wait, citing staffing issues, but at this point I knew this is a regular problem for them. I explained I no longer wanted to use this practice. They were pleasant and gave me a refund. I won't be going back. read more

This was my first visit to this office. We were referred via our insurance and learned that Dr. Stafford is accepting new patients and is open on Saturdays. From a cleanliness perspective the office is immaculate, inviting, and new with the latest in both furniture and dental equipment. All of the office staff, dentists, and dental hygienists made me feel welcome and are very knowledgeable and willing to give considered advice for future treatment and long term oral health. I had a cleaning which was done thoroughly and gently but your experience may vary based on your particular situation and sensitivity. So I gave this business a five star review even tho parts of my visit were kinda unpleasant.... but The overall experience was good, and I'll make this my new home for dental work- however, I hate getting dental work, tbh- and wasn't prepared for what I was going to hear during my cleaning. There was a hygienist and she had long dark brown hair and honestly she MADE my experience so incredibly amazing. I can't remember her name for the life of me but she was awesome!!! I would go back alone for her alone. She was super personable and made me feel relaxed. She deserves a raise, honestly. LOL! The front desk manager was also incredibly sweet. I am so disappointed about my experience with Dentist on Grove Avenue because I was recommended to them. But this was by far the most worst dental experience I've encountered. It started with me having to wait 2 hours. My appointment was scheduled for 1:00pm. At 2:00pm I asked the front desk receptionist, Ruth, how long it will be before I'm called back, she said it will be another 45 mins. Then, I was called back shortly after 3:00pm. After X-rays were done, the dentist came in...he didn't introduce himself so unfortunately I don't have his name. He was a nice guy but due to lack of staff he didn't have anyone in the room to help him when he examined my teeth so he had to sanitize his pen to write and the mouse to his computer and went back and forth with that. He said that he would have a treatment plan typed up. I expressed to him that I was there for a cleaning but he said that wasn't what I was scheduled for. I, then spoke with Ruth as she was to explain my treatment plan and when she asked if I had any questions before she started explaining, I expressed to her that I was disappointed because I called to initially schedule for a cleaning. She then said that I was speaking with her when I called to schedule. When I scheduled the appointment for a cleaning, she asked were there any other concerns and I told her all of my concerns, then she stated that the doctor could possibly remove my wisdom teeth. So when I spoke with her, I told her that I felt that she could've been more clearer by telling me that she wasn't scheduling a cleaning just a removal (btw that I couldn't get done because of being short staffed). She started to get rude saying that she was clear and rude with my mom over the phone who I had listening. Then, she said that I was upset and that she couldn't help me and left. I never yelled, I wasn't being combative, not argumentative, she just wasn't happy with me expressing myself and didn't know how to communicate. So, I left with no cleaning, they didn't pull my wisdom teeth so I'm still in pain and I was only left with a treatment plan that's not helpful because I wouldn't be returning back to them anyway. Really liked dr chen, but then they recommended i get 6 crowns. the receptionist or whoever it is that comes in to tell you how much things will cost said to me, "girl you just got this work done and now you need all of this?!?! what the f*ck!" which made me feel really really bad and overwhelmed. she wasn't professional at all. Dentists on Grove was recommended by a coworker as a good place that accepted our insurance. She'd had 2 crowns recommended. After my first visit they recommended I get a crown on a tooth that didn't really bother me. I said not right now, and had the doctor look at me like I was an idiot. I finally got the recommended crown and now have daily pain from them filing my tooth down too far. I later got a letter from my insurance saying they wouldn't cover the procedure because there was not significant decay to warrant a crown. My wife went there, and they said she needs 2 crowns. I had recommended another coworker to the practice and, you guessed it, they told him he needed 2 crowns. Don't be fooled by the nice waiting room. It's a racquet, you've been warned. read more

Very clean office! The staff was super nice and friendly. My husband walked in with a severe toothache and needed it removed, we didn't have an appointment but they pulled it the next day for him (we had to come back with enough money). They were very gentle with him and kept his fear of needles and dentists in consideration. They even worked out a payment plan with us since we don't have insurance. We had to bring our rambunctious toddler with us and they even changed their tv to cartoons to help keep him entertained, they were super friendly and understanding. We will definitely be recommending their office to friends and family. We have found our new dentists after months of searching. read more

I semi-semi went there for a checkup. I had no pain or previous big problems with any teeth. The people at dentists on Grove Ave told me I needed to get two crowns and it would cost $1,000. They said I would be in extreme pain in 3-4 weeks if I didn't get the crowns ASAP. I was skeptical. After that, I got three more opinions from other dentists. To summarize, they told me they were just spots we needed to keep an eye on and DEFINITELY didn't require crowns. Now a couple months later, I still am in no pain without the crowns or even fillings. Okay this place is weird. The only thing I liked was their nice interior. First, they take you into a room in the beginning of your first appointment like you are being interviewed to talk pretty much about nothing since I was there for a checkup/cleaning. Then, the technician is acting like she's the dentist, and when I asked the actual dentist about something the technician had said about my xrays she told me it was nothing to be worried about just the anatomy (verify what you are seeing before freaking someone out!!). They do try to sell you on stuff to make an extra buck/push for unnecessary services which is not the quality of medical professionals that I'm used to. I decided not to schedule for my 6 mo check up, and after I left I got a notification that they scheduled me so I had to call and cancel it. Later that day I got another notification that someone scheduled me AGAIN. Super annoying would not recommened this place it doesn't feel like they have your back. read more

AMAZING! First off, Dr. Yang is the best. She is so patient, knowledgable and always is so friendly every time I come in. All of the staff are super helpful here, and going to the dentist is now an enjoyable experience! Also, I've had to get several retainers and procedures done and they offer several discounts if insurance doesn't cover it. My new retainer was supposed to be $750, but they discounted it to $450. I am beyond delighted with this practice! I have seen two different dentists here, and their no-nonsense, straightforward approach was/is gratefully appreciated! I do not possess dental insurance. I laid my cards on the table with them concerning my minimalistic approach to dental options. In return, I have received face-value responses to my questions and a very reasonably-priced hygiene visit. I am very firm in what I'm about to say: at 58 years old, I have visited any number of dentistry practices...some good...some bad...some horrific. I had a dentist tell me one time that I had a cavity in my front tooth. I just didn't buy into it, so I declined filling it. 38 years later, and I've never had another dentist tell me I need a filling in that tooth! A few years ago, I was in need of somewhat urgent tooth care for a front tooth that was ever-so-slightly chipped. In need of timely attention, I went to a dental office that was new to me. I should've known better when the dentist told me he'd give me a $100 discount if I paid in cash. ... Ultimately, I was never told, nor did I know, that my two front teeth were being grinded down to nothing in order to accommodate caps. Perhaps I should've understood the steps required for this procedure. Perhaps I should've stopped the procedure mid-stream when this sanding went on for an extensive amount of time. But I didn't. I had no reason to question a medical professional. That night, when the temporary caps fell out in the middle of my Italian restaurant meal, I just about passed out in the bathroom mirror! Guess I should've figured as much when he pocketed the cash upon conclusion of the treatment. Lesson learned. Choose your dental practice carefully. And as for me, I will remain happy with peace of mind at the Dentists on Grove Ave! I will sing their praises everywhere read more

My experience with them was not a pleasant one, I had a couple of bridges done here and they did a horrible job, the bridges don't match and I can't even grind my food, I spent over 5,000 with them and now they don't want to honor their contract and guarantee the bad work they did, they want me to pay 500 to fix it, it's not my mistake so, why should I pay for it????They were very nice at first but as soon as I complained for their bad work they became rude and impolite, what a disappointment!! Searching for a dentist to do four crowns. One dentist could save two but On 12/27/19 the dentist at grove stated that one of them was to damage to fix and it could break off under the crown. After much hesitation and a very empathic hygienist that explained in detail that most of my tooth was shave down to much and there was hardly no tooth there. So reluctantly I agreed to have my tooth pulled and oh lord what a mistake that was. On Monday I was dying & they couldn't see me until 1/2/20 no I brought everything under the sun that had pain release. Do you know I had to go back 2x for pain each time she was saying it was my fault. I need to keep food out of it I brought a waterpik she would even write me a prescription to use by FS card she gave me three pills for pain and twice she tried to put a temporary bridge over my swollen still hurting gums before she realize I had AN ABCESS under my gum! Finally, my pain is gone after 2 1/2 months & get anxiety meds from my primary doctor. still have space from my bridge & gum & I need the other 2 crown completed but I want be going back there even tough she move to North Carolina. read more
