The place is bad news since the previous owner sold the buisness. I am taking my 5 minutes to warn anyone considering taking your business to 404 Automotive. It is a super sad situation, as the place use to be our family's go to automotive service location. We will never take another vehicle to them again. They have lost loyal customers who try to support local businesses, due to their unprofessionalism, untrustworthiness and unreliability. The first issue was that someone did not check the fluids after servicing our vehicle. They called after the fact to say they "forgot." I call that unprofessional and unreliable. The 2nd issue came after my mother died and I inheirited her vehicle and needed to get it inspected b/c of MD requirements. I called them last Wednesday and requested an appointment for an inspection ASAP. The soonest they could even give me an appointment was Monday AM. The car was there before they ever opned on this Monday. My husband called mid-day to see when the car would be finished/ready and to let them know that our plan was to go to the Motor Vechicle Administration AS SOON AS it was ready as there were time constraints. They informed him that they could not inspect it b/c there were clothes in the back seat. They did NOT BOTHER to call to let us know that. My husband got all of the clothes out of the back seat and we waited to hear from them. Then around 3:30, he took the initiative to call them again. They informed him it would not be finished today. They would have it done by 9 tomorrow-which did not work for me. I immediate went to retrieve the car and will not give them any future business. Good luck, if you try them. Bad situation, and a pricey situation in any event. But I needed a transmission for my 2016 GMC Sierra. I looked up the cost of a remanufactured transmissions of a couple well known vendors. Their cost were all pretty close. The difference is the core return refund, ie whether it is paid up front. So, the core return makes a huge difference on the overall price. Anyhow, Denton Auto care quoted me a price that just for the transmission was $4500, nearly $1600 higher than the sources I looked up, no discount for the core return either. This shop tries to charge you extra every chance they get. So, I sourced my own part with a warranty. Then they still jacked up the labor about $400 higher. Then they hit me for an additional $200 to program the transmission. It's 2026. Like they didn't know that this was part of the procedure. The only reason I used them at all was proximity to where I live. They also were listed in the transmission suppliers installer pool. I won't even use them for a tire repair at this point. Nothing really against the mechanics that work there, but the management staff needs an overhaul. read more

Complete rip off. Everything is overcharged, I used to go there with the old 404 and it was amazing. Now they don't even fix the issue half the time without adding on so much to the bill. They've charged me multiple times now to look at my car after I told them the issue. Completely wasted time out of my day and want to charge more to fix the issue after I already knew what the issue was. 2 hour wait more like all day long just for them to tell you to come back. read more

My wife was driving from Bethany Beach, DE to Easton, MD for an appointment when the car started jerking & would go no faster than 20 mph on the highway. Fortunately this all happened in front of 404 Auto Repair, so she was able to maneuver off the road & pull into this shop. They were kind enough to look under the hood where they discovered several hose clamps had come off. A new air conditioning compressor had just been installed by another shop & they had not put everything back together properly. The clamps were reattached & tightened & she was able to drive home safely, though she missed her appointment. read more

We used to go there when it was 404 Auto, now I would not take my child's match box cars there. If your tire has a nail in it, but close to being replaced, they will not plug it, they want you to buy a new tire. Watch taking your vehicles in for an oil change, this time might by half synthetic, next time may be full, each time is a different price. After being a customer for several years, I won't go back. I was informed by a Honda dealer that our Civic needs a whole new muffler , they quoted me $500 to repair it . I took it to 404 for a second opinion and was informed the muffler was fine and did not need to be repaired .I appreciate them being honest and assisting me . Definitely recommend them for repairs and maintenance . read more

I was heading home from OC and had an issue where my truck could not go over 30MPH. Truck kept flashing codes and saying service Stabilink, service brakes, etc. 404 took me in immediately and diagnosed the issue (Throttle Body) and repaired while we waited!!!! Also made me aware of some other codes that needed to be addressed but not emergencies. It is much easier and less stressful to drive home at 60-65MPH then 20-30MPH especially going over the bridge. Took my truck here for inspection after having someone else do all the necessary repairs. The shop I was going to go to told me I would have to wait 45 minutes for the inspection. I was late to my first appointment and this shop said they could do a same day inspection so I was pretty happy about that. I waited 2 hours on my truck and watched it go into the shop less than 15 minutes after I got there. The truck was returned to me with both the abs sensors unplugged, an exhaust manifold bolt broken off in my head that was not previously broken the day before, and the cv boots had been cut in a perfectly straight line. The truck was also failed for not having a baffle style muffler which I had welded in just the day before and the inspection slip I was given says it is not a baffle style muffler. The truck is quiet than most trucks in the Caroline County area. Beware of this shop. They are just out to get your money. read more
